  1. Ive recently decided to start playing my BS/Shield scrapper again, I realise how useless this set seems to be in PvP at the minute, particularly without sets but what I want to know is, is it possible to softcap defence in PvP on it fully setted out despite DR?

If not is there any other particularly effective way to set it out or is it just one of those PvE only charecters?

I did search for anything related but all i found was a post regarding BS/Shield with 0 replies so lets hope I have a bit more luck. Im honestly expecting a reply of 'no its not possible' or something along those lines but I figured its worth a try.
  2. I can see the indiana jones clones now....

Anyway if in an earlier post it mentioned using whip/pistols animations together in a set, melee and ranged in the same set would only work for dominator or a blaster secondary, in which case you would have the same 3 attacks from demon summoning been used in the secondary powerset too from dominator anyway. Which leaves just blaster, and its very unlikely they will make a single archetype powerset for anything other than dominator and mastermind.

Well that explains why i havent seen him lol Perhaps a Going Rogue thing? or has he been there way before that?

And I think just about everyone whos come to suggest powers at some point has asked for a sword and gun lol. I think maybe the jacket would need reworking in the actual game, no idea where that picture came from it was just on cohwiki. Trenchcoats cant wrap around the charecter it was said because of the engine, so it has to be a buttcape deal.

I think it would make an excellent Epic Archetype for people who get level 50 on the opposite side from what they started in Going Rogue, or level 20 if they want to follow the i17 update

Still, please add Spark Blade to the game so I can stand in front of him with my mouth open please, thanks
  4. I have teamed with a fire/dark myself and they are indeed one of, if not the best corrupter teaming build. Way better than sonic/kin either way.
  5. After getting a Peacebringer to 41, I had to stop there, the charecter was just too poor to continue playing (other account not this one on EU )

The reason being, in a team or solo your pretty much forced to play in a poor state. Human form is where you get your most damage, outside of nova which is basically a weaker blaster with 0 resists and a deathwish since its an agro magnet, yet everytime you get in melee range to fire one of these powers in human form you are somehow mezzed almost every time. There survivability is good with the amount of heals they have but its very frustrating to get stopped because of an obvious flaw such as that.

You can now switch to dwarf to stop been mezzed, but this is basically forcing you to play a bad tanker. Ok it does look cool, but what goods looking cool if your physically useless? You can adapt sure, but why adapt when every role you play is worse than the role you could be playing as a normal charecter?

To me its just broken simple as.

Warshade however, is a different story, those can actually be really good in teams and stuff. Most people who play peacebringer stop after a few levels because the realise warshade is better anyway. Villain side epics are way better, my widow is always the last one standing in a team, and shes melee. My bane has amazing damage and still has some resists, which you just dont see on hero epics. Its terribly unbalanced in this way but since the actual teaming on heroes is more efficient due to the makeup and the fact no one on villains really seems to be able to match a tank for pure tanking ability other than a tankermind mastermind which arent that common, it kind of balances it out in a weird way.
  6. actually thinking about it logically, stalker probably would have the hardest time completing a TF this way. Even defenders/corruptors could buff themselves enough to actually complete it i think, blasters could keep making the AV run backward and forward between them at range and they have godmode powers in epics. Dominators and controllers could stack there holds and stuff, controllers buffing each other, dominators having extra damage. Tankers wouldnt die and can kick out ok damage, brutes and scrappers are best at doing it anyway. PB and WS would be fine there too, as would soldiers and widows.

Stalkers are the only one i would think twice whether it could actually do it. It probably can, particularly with softcap defences but it would still be hard work.

Well as far as i can see, Ghost Widow would be borderline necrophillia lol. You missed out Ms Liberty, on Union there used to be a Ms Liberty's Protectors Squad SG, i think that would count as popular
No WarWitch? She will be angry at that

As for the male side, personally even though Back Alley Brawler is muscular, theres such a thing as being too muscular

Statesman I agree with GG when she said hes too old, but probably would have been cute in younger days.
Foreshadow is cute definately and in my top three favorites.
Malaise you cant really tell because of the mask.
Manticore im not really fond of, probably because the first time i met him he was betraying us and tried to kill us
Spark Blade, who i only just saw via cohwiki a few minutes ago, is definately number 1 or 2 very cute and cool, id be definately going for his phone number if i met him.
Woodsman and castle both have same issues, beards. No idea why men insist on growing them, they scratch you when there short, there like kissing a furball when there long. Yuck.
Positron, probably some peoples taste but not for me
Maelstrom is definately in top two along with Spark blade though

For those of you that dunno spark blade, image below

  8. Have to say im kind of happy i posted something that got so many peoples attention lol. I really didnt think too many people looked here nowadays
  9. still any idea is going to have complaints about it, look at dual pistols for instance.

People have been asking for those since like issue 5 on these forums in suggestion section, we finally get them and now all you hear is 'its a fancy looking set but thats it' and people complain wanting it buffed.

Point being you cant please everyone, and if you cant use a certain origin to make a charecter, then why are you trying to do it in the first place? theres no rules stating you HAVE to make a mutant cybernetic monster (which is one way to use mutant btw ) however if you want to thats your choice.

You cant put a set down simply because you cant think of a way to use it with every single origin. If your creative enough its possible, much like masterminds, yes it is heavy tech orientated but i see no reason as to why that should stop a perfectly good set stop being made.

'Oh noes i cant makez a mutantz cyber manz' isnt exactly a reason to disregard a set. Whats to stop them making sets for each origin in turn?

For instance this for tech, some transformation set for mutation or science, demon summoning is pretty much magic based already, and something like whips or spears for natural?

If your really imaginative it is still possible to come up with backstorys for every origin still, if you cant think of a way to make it fit, simply change your story... its not set in stone is it?

For example, consider Broadsword. The only thing that it enforces is that I wield a sword of some kind. I could be a normal person wielding a magical sword. I could be a person in a highly advanced suit of power armor wielding a mono-molecular sword. I could be a mutant with super-human reflexes and a sword. The only constant is that my character wields a sword, everything else is up for grabs. In particular it doesn't impose any theme on my character himself. He could be a human, an alien, a cyborg, or a genetically modified catgirl; as long as he has a sword it's all good. Additionally the set implies nothing about the sword itself, it could be the source of my powers, it could have been built using futuristic technology or it might just be 3ft of regular steel.

Similarly for Masterminds the only imposed theme is that you have support from Robots, Thugs, Undead, Clowns, Ninjas, Mercenaries or Demons. It enforces nothing about how or why you have their support only that you do.

This particular set imposes significantly more theme on the character than a weapon set. You are essentially forced to be either a robot, a cyborg or someone in a suit of power armor with special costume pieces to match. You have a bit of flexibility in where you come from but it's still imposing a much heavier theme than any of the existing sets.
I agree but there isnt much way you can make a cyborg set anything other than tech/science/magic as far as i can see, mutant wouldnt suit the basis of the set to begin with, and natural... well i guess you could kinda work it in because you were natural to begin with before being upgraded magic, missiles dont go with it ok, but the laser parts can, whats to say your powers arent drawn from an internal magical crystal powering your suit? I guess in that aspect the missiles would kind of fit as well but it would be a longshot.

One thing I would like to mention though, you cant cut ideas out just because they dont fit into every single catagory, your going to run out of ideas eventually that way, if one or two powersets get made that dont fit into a specific theme, i really dont see people throwing a fit about it, they will just change the theme to suit the charecter.

    Bane PvP Build?

Reason I built for ranged defense on that build is because of all the Blasters and Stalkers who like their Sharks. Even without elusivity to back it up, 40-45% defense means something outside Aim/BU won't be hitting you reliably unless they're an SS Tanker or something. Regarding melee and AoE defense - just stay out of melee range and there's one problem gone, and the fact that no one takes AoEs in PvP anymore means that you don't really need to build for that either. The resists are a bit low, yes, but it's a defense-based character. You've got teammates and Phase for a reason.

Ok thanks for clearing that up, Im thinking I might possibly change it a bit to get weave and tough in there for some extra resists/defence, might be able to hit softcap with ranged defence after DR then.

    Bane PvP Build?

Ok thanks, ranged damage I understand is going to be the main issue, particularly from blasters but still what about regens? Theres quite a few regen scrappers running around zones nowadays.

    Bane PvP Build?

Also just noticed in that post the build on there is very low defencively, sure it has 66.3% ranged defence, but melee and aoe are 35.3% and resists are at 25-27%.

I dont know if its been updated but mids doesnt count DR does it still? Would this build even work anymore since defence got nerfed?

Make sure to do advanced search, and select only the applicable forum section (PvP). That filters out all the PvE crap.
Thanks, if black barrier would have done that i would have ignored the flaming part. I didnt do the advanced search for pvp section only, thats probably why i got so many other unrelated posts.

    Bane PvP Build?

Anyone got a Bane PvP build?

Im completly lost on where to start with mine so I really could use something for pointers.

The issues I have is if i try to focus on defence/resists my attacks suffer greatly, if i focus on attacks my defence/resists suck.

I hear banes arent bad in PvP but I havent actually seen one in action to ask about them so here I am, begging for help

I havent played CO and I had no idea they had even done it there in all honesty.

I really hope the devs would look into it, I have no idea how likely this would be to crop up in the future but its very much something i think a lot of people would be happy to have, I just thought Id post it since I did a build for dual pistols ages ago on my other account and pretty much all the powers implemented are the same as how I listed it back then lol, descriptions and power ideas are almost identical.

Also Teaming wise it would suit themed teams very well, an army of robots with/without a mad scientist in team, very much like masterminds with pets i guess but with actual players. I think it would surely be a hit, and the fact that in the powerset I added some knockback and burn damage, would make it a cross between fire and energy types which again would be awesome yet still not massively overpowered.

Its rare I say this but I actually agree with you here.

A few times now I've found effective PvP charecters now through dumb luck that arent favorite of the month builds. Its amazing how many players make blasters just because 'the forums say there awesome in pvp' and not actually have any idea of how to play them.

I have been slowed myself a couple of times in arena duels, but that wasnt at a decent level to deem it viable in pvp (level 30 arena duels with sg). Im not naive enough to think because it works at level 30 it will work at level 50. However I was curious if anyone had any specific numbers as to how much slow you would actually need before they actually do slow down.

an ice/cold troller is a good way to start figuring them out.

Ahh just read this one, any idea of a rough percentage of slow though that you would need to hit to start slowing down? for instance like 179.2% slow like glue arrow slotted with 3 level 50 IO's etc stacked with something else? just so i can get a rough idea of how much slow i should be aiming to stack.

I dont plan on making a cold/ice charecter, although i would probably take one of them and change the other, its just more out of curiosity to see if it can be done with other powers, particularly to keep them in wide area effects like rain of fire or something like that.

Not even in the slightest even with slow enhancements?

Wow thats surprising, I was expecting to have to sacrifice damage in order to get a decent slow now but the fact its not working at all its a very big letdown.
  22. also thinking about it, how perfect a time would this be to create?

Going Rogue coming out with Pretorians that are cybernetic based as well. It could fit very well with the addon although that would be expecting it too fast i think. It could still be implemented later though possibly as something unlockable from the pretorians plus i still want there armor

Maybe have less guns and more powers using the arms, like Double Rocket Punch or something.

I did think about that, for power 2 especially, however i thought having a few different attacks would vary it a bit. Im not completly sure it can be done, and if it could be done, how difficult it would be, but i do believe I have a reasonable way for it to work.

The most complicated ones I think would be the ones involving the actual arm parts going at a 90 degree angle, and the back fired missiles. The missiles i think would be technically the most complicated to add because it would mean they have to 'emerge' from inside the player model, and because of this they would need to scale correctly with the player so that they dont clip.
Since regular weapons already do scale with the charecter fine, I think it should be possible but someone correct me if im wrong.

As for the arm model, i have already explained that, it would just be a case of making the original model invisible, which im definately sure is simple to do since ive already had a bug a while ago where my arms disappeared on the glove parts lol. However adding a skin over the top, particularly one that moves in such a way would be something new i think. When the arm parts move, so that it doesnt have two models active at once the original model would need to be replaced with the animated version which does the required movement, then after animation gets replaced again by the non moving model. This sounds complicated enough in writing here but it should be do able.

For other powers using arms, you could use stuff like:

Arm sweep: You swing your arms in a cone area sweeping your enemies off there feet, chance for knockdown.

Arm Whip: You swing your arm from above and smash your enemy on the head, chance for knockdown.

Cybernetic Spin: You spin in a circle with your arms out and have a chance to knockback anyone in the local area. (melee range move, PBAoE)
  24. Thank you, very fast reply lol, i literally only posted that a minute or so ago
