shield scrapper, possible to softcap defence?
Soft cap and pvp don't really go together, there are to many buff and debuffs to take into consideration.
Get ranged as high as you possibly can. Get your melee in decent shape. For pvp I would try to take gc so you have as much debuff res as possible. Get your hp as high as you can to.
Duel me.
I will work on my sig pic more when I have time.
Ok thanks, but have you actually seen anyone play a Shield scrapper that wasnt dead in 5 seconds flat in a zone?
Im trying to decide whether its actually worth spending a few billion on a pvp build for it, or if it would be pointless to even try. Playing melee is gimped as it is in pvp, playing shield just makes it even more gimped, Im just curious about if theres a way to counter its gimpedness
Quite a few. Starblade- on freedom does fairly well. There are a few others but the name elude me atm.

Just two more quick questions, im guessing against all odds would be one of those powers you skip in pvp because of detoggling? And how about One with the Shield? worth skipping or taking?
I would take aao. I just wouldn't freak out about keeping it toggled. OWTS is completely skippable, useful as an io mule at best. If you have room though take it.

Ok I came up with a build focussed on ranged defence, thoughts/suggestions?
I really dont like the fact theres no super speed there, but i really couldnt think of a way to get it in without gimping myself, chose phase over it because for melee it seems more or less nessessary, bad move?

Drop leaping or fighting before you drop ss. You need ss to really negate movement slows.

I dont really have a -fly -jump power since i took body mastery, and with the total endurence usage i would probably still need it even after sets with DR coming into play that was my issue with that and thats why I took jump.
Ive changed it now though, i do need tough and weave i think to stop me falling flat on my face.
No, you don't need tough and weave. You definitely need SS more. And without leaping, you will be extremely limited in your movement, so you need that too.
The solution is to drop fighting.
I kind of agree with nubby. Though either build is fine, I do run some ss only melee toons with webs. Very functional for zones. Oh and buy a fly pack. Which for some reason people have been raging on lately.

If you have not invested heavily into building this yet, I would respectfully suggest you still reconsider investing into a defense-based toon, instead of a regen (if you want a scrapper) or a resists (if you want a brute or tank) toon. With the hit to elusivity, which I hope they restore some part of what they took away, I don't think we can rely on defense again, not yet.
I would strongly suggest you move over to a resists-based toon for brute or tank, and a regen for scrappers.
If you really want a defense based toon, I would suggest a)Ice, for its heal, its end drain power, defense debuffs resists, and hibernate. b) SR, and c) a NW (especially for GR) or Fort or a Bane, with preference for the NW and Fort over the other VEATS.
Repeat Offenders forever !
Make all IO's available in Paragon Market! NCSoft, the chinese are making BIG money selling influence and other stuff in the game. Best way to stop them = make the paragon market a place to buy all IO's and perhaps other things as well.
Here's what I use for shield pvp. The defense isn't soft capped but it's high enough where most people miss a decent amount.

I dunno man there is a huge difference (insanely noticable) between 48% def and 55% def...when I ran my spines/sr I was an easy kill at48 but one I shelled out the money for those expensive stuff I was alllottt harder to hit/kill the only things that could reliably hit me were bu+aim blasters, ss brutes and well built VEATs..55% def is soo important..I would drop leaping before I dropped fighting, and I would pick up webs...

You aren't project3x too are you?
I wouldn't have soft capped defense your #1 focus. Think you'd be better focusing on HP and movement.
Seem's like Webnade is manditory for a melee...and Swift (to close fast thru surpression).
you gotta have Speed, Leaping, and Fitness..., so your choice between conceal/fighting/medicine for the forth pool :P (you can get 2 temp power phases)
I would definitly wait till next issue comes out. btw I dont pvp with melee's so feel free to ignore everything ive said.
something along these lines..

Id take crippling axe kick over shield charge (for PvP), Id take would also build to get targeting drone. Why buikd for KB protection when u have 10000% res to it.
|
There are a couple powers I'd very much like to be able to fit in. Targeting drone is one of the, also grant cover for the added def debuff resist. Not sure what I'd give up t though. The only power that is kind of in the margins and not carrying significant set bonuses is 1wts, which itself is pretty useful for stretching out the hp when I start taking hits. Of course I may have to consider giving up some stuff I'm attached to anyway to restore some of the defense the i17 zephyr nerf is going to shave off.
On the knockback thing, does kb resist a factor in pvp at all? As I understand it, the only thing that matters is the magnitude of your kb protection vs the mag of the incoming kb. Active defense provides mag 10 protection. Most of the time I can count on having two of them stacked for 20. A few kb protection IOs boost that up to 36.

Elec has a few points of kb protection but no resists, hence you must build for kb protection.
Invul, though it has similar kb protection has capped kb resist which negates all kb.
Any melee set with inherent kb protection is 100% immune to all kb.
Only exceptions are widow/fort and Kheldian dwarf form kb protections. They're bugged and get suppressed when you're mezzed.
Well, that's useful to know. I can free up a few slots.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
Isn't a /SR much better than /Shields for pvp?
To me it seems like /Shields has little to offer (a bit of res and maxhp) while SR has more defense (I know it gets DR'ed but you can achieve stupid levels of ranged for example) and Elude.
Just asking out of curiosity, I know very little of i13 pvp.
hell to the no!!!! I 7-0 him 1v1 on a half built ill/therm using no inspiartions...it was funny

Ive recently decided to start playing my BS/Shield scrapper again, I realise how useless this set seems to be in PvP at the minute, particularly without sets but what I want to know is, is it possible to softcap defence in PvP on it fully setted out despite DR?
If not is there any other particularly effective way to set it out or is it just one of those PvE only charecters?
I did search for anything related but all i found was a post regarding BS/Shield with 0 replies so lets hope I have a bit more luck. Im honestly expecting a reply of 'no its not possible' or something along those lines but I figured its worth a try.
