  1. Here's Foo's Maiden Light

Rocketed from her home when she was an infant, little Orah Alilah was found and raised in Connecticut with a well-to-do family. After officially adopting her (a little money can make such things easier), they brought her up with good values and a social conscience. It's no surprise, then, that when she developed fantastic abilities that she decided to use them to help her fellow man. Adopting the name "Maiden Light", a pun on "Made In Light", a reference to the birthing ship she was discovered in, which glowed with an ethereal light.

And here's my alternate take on her:
    Close-up
    Full view

Discovered by a retired Air Force captain after a meteor shower in rural Connecticut, Orah Alilah was raised as his own daughter. Having lost an unborn child and wife to a terrible car crash in the previous years, Orah gave the captain a new reason to live again. He taught her right from wrong and instilled into her a strong sense of duty and honor. When she started to develop otherworldly abilities, she was quick to use them for the benefit of her fellow townspeople.

When her power grew beyond the confines of the small town she lived in, her father urged her to find her own destiny out in the larger world. She chose the name 'Maiden Light' in reference to what her father had always told her. "You are the light of my life, Orah. When I had lost everyone, you gave me everything. You gave me purpose when I had none. You are my little maiden of light."

Since Foo's original design had emphasis on a bare skinned lower body, I decided to reverse it and go with upper body skin. He had a nice simple and classic design, so I didn't want to change the innate feel of her character. I lost the cape and gave her a little more of a complex pattern to make up for it. Since I like all the characters I design to have something unique about them, I used the two patterns on the top and bottom to make it look like the top of her outfit is actually layering over her pants, rather than a hard cut at the belt line. Omega was used because it looked nice, but also because it symbolizes the end, which was essentially where Orah began. The end of her journey and the (seeming) end of her father's life.

    Scion of Zeus!!!

People want to think they live in a perfect little vacuum where they can be praised all day on everything they do. It's pretty sad to see really, since there's a lot of potential learning that could be done on many sides if people were more open to just speaking their minds.

Nobody is ever going to get along with everyone else. Human nature and all that, but holding it back also does nobody any good either.

But the majority of the people here want to live in their bubble, so I abide by that decision. ...for the most part. Of course when I see people actively looking for a fight over something that should be common sense, then I'll speak up. This *was* asking for it. There's few other people here more qualified to say that than I.

TA wasn't being mean or rude in his original comment and there was no need to bust his chops over it. Mr. Majesty was clearly in the wrong on this and it's [censored] if anyone else wants to try and hide that. Grow a thicker skin about the things you're clearly baiting people on.

There's *nothing* wrong with being gay, bi, pan or a-sexual. But there is something wrong with overreacting to things that aren't even insulting at you. SoZ flames. Hard. So? Accept it and move on.

    Scion of Zeus!!!

    ITT: Homophobia-phobia.

Coming from someone who *worked* in a primarily Gay oriented BDSM leathershop, lemme tell you. This isn't the openly gay guy. This is the guy who's desperately trying to convince himself that he's hetero while loving the company of military boys.

I mean common sense here. This was just asking for it. True there's a lot of bigotry and hatred in the world, but there's just as much over-reaction to perceived slights as well. People need thicker skin overall.
  5. If it wasn't for the hair, I'd have no idea that was Soul Train. o.O
  6. Remember to post the original versions as well, so we can all compare the changes.
  7. The build still holds up in i14 as well as it held up in i6. A few things have changed, but most all the info here is still applicable.

Of note, IOs can make your Fire/Dark experience much easier, allowing you to not have to choose between debuff or mez, since you can get them both. And having access to easy +recovery and +end set bonuses make the end heavy combination much easier to deal with.

Flares got a strong buff and it is now a much better option for a Fire/Dark who's having boss problems. Flares makes for a great filler in a single target chain and it animates fast enough to not slow you down while conserving end.

Stealth IOs make it possible to gain total invis with any of the travel pools so Super Speed is no longer the travel power of choice for the stealthers out there. And Jump Kick is now a relatively decent pool attack power, though Air Superiority is still... well, superior.

Shadow Fall becomes a hotbed of IO madness, since it takes both Res and Def IOs, making it your solution to almost all your needs. It will take a +tohit IO, either type of KB resist, Mez resist unique, Res/Def unique and so forth. It's just fantastic all around.
  8. I say Bayani is cherrypicking the best costume artists for himself! I say we make him pair up with this guy instead.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
A agree with other posters who have suggested that nothing visual be exchanged. Seeing the original costume may affect the efforts of people during thier creating. Maybe keep it simple, character name, sex, AT powersets, and maybe a little background and/or personality traits.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This doesn't make any sense at all. If you don't have a basis with which to modify, then you can't make an outfit based on the original. This isn't a contest to make an entirely different outfit for an entirely different character. It's about parody, essentially, used in a manner to make an alternate version of the same character.

If someone makes a robotic armor, blonde haired, blue aura version of my character, it will not match in the *slightest* bit. It will not be visually recognizable as *my* character. Just another random character that someone on the forum made.

If this was about making interesting characters and costumes in general, then that would be fine. But this is about creating a new look for a pre-established char. That's tougher than just doing something random and that's why I'm interested in the first place.
  10. I'm pretty good with the costume creator, but I'm terrible when it comes to writing. I don't want to re-do the background of the character I get, because it will be far inferior to the original, simply based on my authoring ability.

Also, I don't have any of the booster packs. While we can all access the same content in game via the MA, not all of us have access to the same parts. Any way to handle that officially?
  11. This sounds like one of the more fun games we've had around here in a while. I'm totally in.
  12. 2d, hands down. There's no art form that comes close to the beauty of hand drawn line art. Lines translate artists' movements so honestly and perfectly that a good b/w piece is like watching the entire drawing process completely condensed into a single image.

    *swoon*
  13. Automagically Winvincible. The end.
  14. My vote is for Juggy. If Projectionist had put a background in, I would have easily gone for him, but Juggy's comic cover setup put him over the top. It's got the most 'versus' feeling out of the whole set.

You are now. But it's a slippery slope, you'll start with a few boobies and end up with Naughty Nadya's dungeon. Believe it!

    [/ QUOTE ]

... NN's not the only one with a dungeon 'round heah, sugah.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes... yes... speak up so that I may know whom to steal panel style head harnesses with roller buckles and double stitched beveled edging from. Eeeexcellent.
  16. [ QUOTE ]

I just wanted to comment on the Ally level thing for a second. If you make them boss level and someone runs it on heroic, they scale down to Lts.

So even if you have a big team running the mission on heroic, they'll still spawn at Lts.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Bolded for emphasis. If people are playing on Heroic, they really don't need any help. The enemies you fight will *also* scale down to match. If you have a team, then... you have a team.

If you keep them at EB level, they have significantly more damage ability than you do, especially if you're a low damage class. That only magnifies the difference between the lolplayer and the OMGAUSUM EB. Even if they only have 3 attacks, they'll still be two shotting things left and right.

Unless you have a valid reason to use one otherwise, just stick to Boss level allies.
  17. What? I didn't edit Foo out. How *dare* you!

  18. I know the point of this game is to have our own awesome mary sues to flaunt, but what? Their love making destroyed Atlantis? o.O
That needs to be explained properly or else I'm going to chalk it up to uncontrolled self fangasm.

As far as the outfit goes, the color choices have a lot to be desired. The blues are too similar and they compete against each other without having any contrast, the outfit blue is too saturate so it clashes with her hair and she could really use a tertiary color to break up the monotony of the form.

I would suggest to you that you lighten the skintone by at least one shade, darken the outfit blue by one or two shades and make her gloves match Sinferna's by making them white.

You will think me to be overly mean and you will be right. But as an artist, I can tell you that what's been presented so far leaves me with *no* desire to do anything with her at all. There will be others who think the same, yet are not frank enough with you to say it.

    logo feed back

Don't crack the lettering on City of Heroes. It's difficult to read and that's the opposite of what you want. Instead, separate the letters in a way that's still readable. I'd use the 1st logo, but with the standard blue for the City of Heroes text. Then if you want to crack something, crack the Invasion text. Don't tilt it.

The Invasion text has obvious borders so when you crack it, it's still easy to make out it's silhouette. On the other hand the City of Heroes text has a more ambiguous silhouette, so cracking it just makes it even harder to read.
  20. For the most part, I tend to try and limit any allies I'll give people at all. While it's sometimes fun to feel like the world is more dynamic, it tends to get in the player's way more than it helps. Most players are already fine as is and don't need nor want the added 'helper.'

But as with anything there are exceptions. Using the ally as failable mission goal, setting an ally as a trigger for something else, option allies as a 'sliding difficulty' system for hard missions, these are all good mechanical uses.

I'm eventually going to publish my own arc with Melanie as an ally in one of the missions but she's only boss level and she's there for balance purposes. The BEBG spams fear and without Mel's ShadowFall to negate it, he's hell for anybody without lots of BFs or Fear protection. That's an example of an ally being there for both game design and story telling purposes.
  21. Make the helpers Bosses. Those have enough HP to not die instantly and they don't wallop things like EB/AVs. Aside from certain particular uses, there's no need to have any EB/AV as an ally, ever.

This is the difference between game design and story design. Game balance demands that the game function well on a mechanical level and be enjoyable. If the AVs are running around one-shotting everything any stealin UR XPeeZ, then that's a bad thing, no matter how cool they are.
  22. I finally got around to putting Mel into an arc, although the bad part is that it's likely not something that you can play easily. My SG mates are notoriously overpowered and most of the content is far too easy, so I made some custom missions just for us. Expect pain and lots of it.

I have a proper story arc involving her that I'll publish later, but I need to work out the writing in it first.

  23. A very resounding meh to these 'artist' based social networking sites. I love the idea of making available a gallery available to anyone who wants one, but the reality is that it turned into a e-peen party of epic proportions.
