I've read that on CO you can't have your own name, others can steal it an impersonate you or whatever. Which sucks, an means we will see loads of heroes called wonder women or whatever, wheres the indiviuality whats the point in the cjarachter customisation if your name can be copied :S

    [/ QUOTE ]

See, I read it the other way around, in CO you CAN have your own name, despite someone having taken it 3 years ago and left the game, which is the situation here.

I've lost count of the number of times I've thought of a name that has made me enthusiastic to roll a new character, only to find the name was taken, so I couldn't use it. I've lost count of the number of characters I've made with names I wasn't really happy with, only for that feeling to grow until at level 10 I delete them.

I don't care if there are 50 players all called Sugar Rush in CO - heck, a supergroup full of characters with the same name might be fun, and has been done here using mis-spellings.

What I care about is if I come up with a name, a costume, a concept, I can flippin' well use the name I want to use.

Getting the name first does not make you any more creative than someone else who independently thought of the same name 2 minutes later.

    Non-unique names FTW.
  3. Now that's what I call an anniversary message. Thanks for the memories, War Witch.

    *sigh*

It's a famous line that has been used time and time again. Basically meaning "I am off, and I don't think this place has much life left in it"

I think he knows that and just doesn't agree.

    i15 moaners.

Is the thread for moaning about i15 then? Or moaning at the moaners? Can I do both?

I've very unimpressed with I15, sorry, and I can see why people are disappointed after they'd built them selves up, thinking i15 would be more than just more of the same old same old.

I left just after I13 as that filled me with 'meh'; I14 didn't get me back - even though I was invited to the closed beta and read the boards. I have no interest in rolling my own content or trawling through the muck looking for the gems - and I said as much before I left, so no cracks about hindsight please, some of us had forsesight... it really wasn't that difficult to see.

I16 would need to be I16:CoH2 or at the very least I16:Trans-Atlantic Server Merge to have any hope of getting me back but I can't see either happening before something new & shiny comes along, frankly I'd rather go back to WoW.

Although I am finding the forum hilarious; the amount of Doom on these threads is just staggering to behold; the number of people who would jump down peoples throats a year ago for suggesting the game is getting on a bit and the servers are a bit quiet who are now leading the Doom charge has had me chuckling for weeks.

The people who championed MA before they saw it, now complaining how shallow it is and how it's killing the game - well done guys, you put me off even looking at it, god only knows how many potential new players you put off.

Little tip: if you don't find it fun anymore: don't whine, LEAVE.

Now excuse me while I sod off back to WAR, where a single zone has about as many players as entire CoH server.
  7. Well said Leif Roar.

This game needs zones pruned more than it needs them added, revamping is a good compromise.

Yay, more zones, spread the player base even more thinly, great idea Posi.

ok, so maybe price needs attention... What would you suggest was a reasonable price... I may not have relative understanding of fair price as I tend to work in big numbers... xD

    Would 50 million be fairer?

    [/ QUOTE ]
The first lvls are considered very cheap, while the latter lvls are considered more expensive.

1-22 would be cheap, while 28-50 is more pricy.

(lvl1-12 is like done in 2-3 runs? - with proper 46 bridge).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Might be better with a flat charge per run; work out how many runs it takes to get someone to 50, how much you want for that effort, divide by 50...

Advantage is you could charge a relatively small amount for a single run, stinging all those 'PL PLZ' people in portal corp for something they might be able to afford, instead of putting off someone with a single price for 1-50.

Many people might just want a few levels to get them 10-14, or 15-20 or something, you don't want to put these people off.

You might even consider cutting your bridges in for a small percentage and take that into account in the price, they're getting xp too though, so that might be enough.

I'd actually love to see someone do this, it should cut down on the 'PL PLZ' crowd a bit if they know they're expected to contribute something.

You mean the game where almost* all the quests you get in a given area are within easy walking distance from the quest giver? That game?

    [/ QUOTE ]

You neglected to mention that, unless you actually know the map in WoW fairly well, you could spend half an hour even finding where the quest location IS without plugins like QuestHelper!

    [/ QUOTE ]

um..I neglected it possibly because I've never heard of the plugin, and neither me nor my missus had any real problems with that...although I did miss the CoH mission pointer!

That said, I played Lotro briefly for the first time in ages the other week...and I was totally lost without my WAR quest tracker stuff that puts a helpful blob on the map to tell you where the quest is.

There are good bits in every game I've played, I just wish developers weren't so coy about nicking them!

er...maybe not, I have the hair for it, but possibly not the beard.

Though I did just notice we have scarily similar post counts too..

    ..are you my stalker?
  12. A friend told me he was playing it - the US version. Like a numpty, I waited the best part of a year for the EU version thinking I'd get better 'ping' (my only experience playing online until then was in FPS games and, back then at least, US servers meant terrible lag).

I bought it a week or so after it launched here.

Anway, I hope you don't play WoW... You REALLY wouldn't like getting around in THAT game!

    [/ QUOTE ]

You mean the game where almost* all the quests you get in a given area are within easy walking distance from the quest giver? That game?

Please compare that to getting a contact in Kings that sends you to Skyway that sends you to the Hollows (or whatever) at pre-travel power levels.

CoH needs travel powers mainly because the missions are so far apart - don't pretend that temp travel powers and radio missions are anything other than patches over a wonky system.

    /edit:
*apart from the ones that are designed to tell you "okay, you've outlevelled this area, go to another one"
  14. Sugar_Rush

    WoW copies CoX?

If it means anything, I deleted two warlocks at level 10, could never get into the class. Try a hunter, they're easy

Also... don't play alone; I was lucky to play with friends over in WoW land - I only ever solo'd when I wanted to, it makes a huge difference, same with WAR now.

I agree with Jawdropper, it's perfectly possible to like different games for different reasons, for example I spent a lot of time in WoW and now WAR, wishing there was sidekick system. (There is one in WAR..but, and you really have to admire the sheer stupidity of their marketing department for this, it's not a widespread feature - its a marketing reward unlock.)
  15. Hah.

The amount of Dooom sloshing around recently on thse forums, most noticeably from quarters that dismiss the merest criticism of the game as Dooom-mongering was staggering... no amount of normal Dooom will reach those levels for a long time!

But if they don't pull *something* special out of the hat for i15, I'll be surprised... and a little sad.

    New Retail Box

    [ QUOTE ]
Why would a new box need a load of new content to attract new players surly if there new players all the content is new?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um.. to make it look new?

Yeah, there are loads of new players out there that we all know would love CoH if they tried it, but the big block in the way of that is this game is really very old. Anyone picking up the box in the shop (assuming they can find one) are going to have a lot of preconceptions based on the age of this game.

This game needs to compete with the new stuff out there. It needs a proper relaunch, with some big changes. It needs to not look like a 5 year old game when CO hits.

I'm hoping for a 5th anniversay relaunch with big changes to the game - war walls coming down kinda changes.

    New Retail Box

    [ QUOTE ]
but LoTR has boxes out, even the apparently awful AoC has boxes out, I've seen 'em! So why no CoX, which is arguably still a damned good MMO

    [/ QUOTE ]

Lotro has boxes out because it launched a new paid expansion not so long ago, and on the back of that it shifts fresh boxes of original product. Exactly the same thing for WoW. AoC has boxes out because it isn't all that old and the initial print run hasn't yet sold out.

CoH is a five year old game.

Unless they're planning some kind of relaunch with a metric tonne of new stuff in there to attract new players, you are not going to see a new box on the shelves this side of the Atlantic; it would be a monumental waste of money.

    Hover buffed

    [ QUOTE ]
Although I know that balance goes over concept of character I wish they would speed up flying to 90 mph or something...Even though I slot fly and swift for fly it just seems odd that flying is so slow.

I realize it would be unfair to the other travel powers though

    [/ QUOTE ]

If they made Fly go at Superspeed speeds IF you had both travel powers, I could live with that!

  21. What if it's a string vest?

That's not clothing, it's just artfully arranged string.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
It's a good analogy. The people calling for server mergers didn't cause the problem, but they certainly made it worse/happen sooner (as we predicted at the time).

    [/ QUOTE ]

This thread is the most hysterical block of doom-mongering ever to appear on these boards. Please don't forget to tar yourself with that brush, with extra lashings for FFM for spreading it over to the US boards too.

    @GR and everyone at Brighton.

I just wanted to say I'm truly sorry to hear about the job losses down there; I've had a lot of pleasure out of the game and these forums over the years, and I'd like to thank you (and the people who were already axed previously) for that. Good luck with the future all.
