  1. Phew. I've been holding my breath since it was 'found', and have admittedly re-watched it a few times as I saved the hi-res version to my machine.

Did anyone else notice the Dominatrix statue at around 2:51? (Don't laugh at me, it took me a good five times to notice.) Unless the statue's a placemarker (bronze statue placemarker?), it would appear that she looks identical to her current in-game model. I'm hoping that this isn't the case, but I can't help but be a little worried.

Overall, the video made me smile. Particularly at Jay saying 'eat a lot of pancakes'.
  2. I'm one of the few players that is still happy with CoH becuase I'm a casual soloist, but I'm obviously heavily biased and want the rest of the playerbase to be just as satisfied.

If we were to be rejiggerpokered around, I'm falling most favouring of the servers being copied over to the NA list. I know we say it like it's very easily done, but what is vital for me personally is for me to retain my characters, their names, their badges, and my vet rewards. I'd like to keep my global, but that isn't as vital. If these can be kept, I certainly wouldn't protest.
  3. What if there was a system that did something along the lines of 'genericize' the post/thread if it's been reported a few times? Although it still leaves a thread called 'Thread Awaiting Moderation' or something, it hides the advert until a mod can come along and approve or delete it. I don't imagine it would take very long for five people to report a RMT advert.

On the note of Paragon Studios selling inf, I would be one of the people who wouldn't likely be a subscriber for much longer.

I don't mean to sound rude (it's probably the mutual sleepy), but the tech was always there, they just knew it was a phenomenal amount of work.

  6. I've read a bit more into it now, and my views have changed since my earlier, more bitter post. I wanted to post in both this thread and the EU-specific one, so I'll just quote from there.

I doubt I'll ever like exclusivity, but that's just me and I can accept that and move on. The only thing I still have an issue with is the change of situation. I don't mind that Gamestop have this deal, but I don't like how it was posted some time ago that there would not be any bonuses for pre-ordering. I understand that there weren't any plans at the time, but after what we've seen today, I'd recommend avoiding making such a statement unless it was something that the team felt strongly about.

I know I sound like I'm being really nitpicky, but I think we need to keep a tight hold (which you guys are usually very good at) on the fine line between possibility and fact.

  8. After reading Black Pebble's post, I'm feeling a little less hard done by. So my thanks to Black Pebble.

Although I won't be buying, I too am curious about the EU. Is Paragon Studios looking into EU retailers for a similar arrangment?
  9. It's not often that I'm negative on these forums, but considering that a signifigant percentage of the playerbase prepurchased Going Rogue, I think this is a terrible idea. It wouldn't be as bad an idea if it was advertised as one of the purchasing methods way back when, but letting us know at this point leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth.

Admittedly, I've never liked in-game bonuses exclusive to people who use a particular retailer. I didn't like it with the CoV helmets, and I don't like it now. I've normally nothing but good things to say about this game, but this has left me a tad disappointed.
  10. I"ve been a player on and off for just over four years now, and I still haven't finished a character.

I had a break after a year or so, and when I came back I was a very changed person. I thought the costumes I had on my characters were ugly, my characters' names were awful, and I'd made some power choices that I didn't fully understand. At that point, it felt like those characters were all 'done'. I'd had enough of them. So I just wiped the slate clean entirely.

However, the characters were not dead. After a couple of months in my new regime of things, I developed a character concept that needed a body, and one of my old characters was reborn with a new face, a new name, and some new threads. This started this little project of mine where I gave old characters a breath of new life, and I now consider them up there with my other characters.

The only other character I can think of that I considered 'done' was one whose mission was to get to fifty with a character of a friend. Once we reached fifty, all of the life came out of the character, and I haven't logged her in since (that was so hard to word cleanly). However, even she is being reborn as a solo character of my own creation.

Tl;dr version: None of my characters ever 'finish'. They only wilt and die away, before being reborn anew.

  12. After reading the Seers background info, I'm just itching to get started on my Psychic's Praetorian counterpart.

That's kinda what I was getting at.

I remember thinking 'Expansion! Power Customisation! Nyaaah!', and then getting all excited when they announced i16. Power Customisation came sooner than I thought, and looking back on it, it's a sign of how quickly the time's gone. Power Customisation's such a normal part of the game now that trying to think of a time we didn't have it is difficult for me.
  14. My CoH time relates to the order I play it in quite a bit, actually. Although it means that some parts of the game don't make sense as I play them, the order that I play something is the order that it happened chronologically.

I tend to look at it as one CoH day/night cycle is about one week. This may only work for me because I'm one of the more casual players. My characters are in an order of their own, too. If I were to make a character today, then in my mind they're starting their careers whilst my main is at the top of his game. This helps with my SG, as my main provides assistance and media pull to my younger heroes.

This messes up some shorter storylines, such as Breakout (which I tend to get around by just seeing it as a regular drug bust), or the Midnight Club entry arc, but it makes long-term changes much easier to process; such as Architect Entertainment opening for business, along with the Rikti War Zone opening up.

No technical difference whatsoever, but chilling from a storyline perspective.
Neat, but the RPers would throw a FIT!
I would certainly be... unhappy. If it was very clearly a choice, I don't think I'd mind. I could manage my character feeling guilty. But I couldn't manage to play their double after they'd died.
  16. I remember instinctively getting up early that morning, and checking up on the boards to discover that the teaser trailer had been posted up. I excitedly watched it, trying to work out who this black-haired woman was.

When Desdemona's fireball changed colour, I almost jumped out of my seat and sang out:

    'Power Customisation!'

    Oh my, was I mistaken.
  17. I know I'm a little late for it, but:

    The Boot Myth

While I don't pick for power choices, I will kick if the player is ignoring a power they've taken that would would be extremely helpful; after asking them nicely of course. For example, if we get a /kin controller who hasn't taken SB then that's fine by me. But if they've taken it, people are asking for it, and they're not dishing it out, then they're probably not going to be around much longer. Generally I'll only kick for this kind of unhelpful playing, leeches, and rude people. Other than that, I'm pretty easy; bring your petless mastermind along. Your pure empath if you like. As long as you use the powers in your build, no matter how obscure a build it may be, bring what you like.

However, I know that there are definitely some real mean and idiotic team leaders out there. My favourite one was when we were doing some missions in the Rikti War Zone. Everything was going smoothly until after around three well-played missions, the tank was kicked from the team.

"He took fly. SS is a much faster travel power."

Of course, we told the leader he was being ridiculous. When he wasn't swayed, we reformed without him with the kicked tank as our new leader.
  20. Firstly, please forgive me for making this post so 'I want I want I want'. I got a little carried away with the picture in my head.

    Weather
The same weather in Paragon City and the Isles gets a little dreary after a while. I remember seeing a picture of St Martial while the Isles were bugged to have Paragon's sunshine. It was oddly beautiful and I'd love to see it occasionally. Not to mention rain.

    More detailed character models.
The character creator is currently one of the best parts of the game, and what makes CoH so good, in my opinion. However, other games are catching up with us, and I feel that much more detailed models would almost be a must were there to be a CoH2; separate fingers, separate eyes, waists and necks that can bend independently of each other. Build all the new powersets from the ground up with as much customisation as you can cram in, while you're at it.

    A more realistic world
I would love for the city to be a little more... lively than Paragon is right now. In an ideal world, I'd want each and every building to have a purpose. I'd want their interiors to be visible through the windows in the outside world, and to be the correct size for the building that contains it. I'd want each building to consistently use the same map. AE was a great example, but I'm hungry for more. Missions would still be instanced, but we could have a 'ghost' of the interior visible through the windows. I also want a greater variety of buildings, whether heroes use them or not. Markets, schools, clubs, libraries, and I want citizens to use them. I'd also want this new world to be more reactive. Certain big missions (such as finishing a task force) could result in a physical change to the area for a short time, perhaps ridding the area of crime for a while. I also want certain spots that could host a supergroup base. A sewer entrance, an office building, a cave entrance. A great deal many supergroups could share the same entrance so we don't run out of spaces, but having that choice of physical location would be nice. That isn't all, either. I would love for Apartment buildings to work in the same fashion; a building that can hold in as many apartments as necessary, but gives the hero a choice of location. One little thing I'd love here is if we had at least a single window in our apartment instance, where we could look out on to an instanced version of that part of the city, complete with citizens and cars and such. This brings me to my next point in world realism: vehicles. I'd love for the vehicles to behave that little bit more realistically, and even more so if we could have our own personal vehicles. This would be controlled by a vehicle creation system not dissimilar from our character creator.

    A bigger world
If asking for a more detailed world wasn't enough, I'd want to expand a little. Perhaps now that Paragon City and the Rogue isles are nearing relatively stable control by their respective leaders, it may be a good time to expand out into the world. Small outposts could be taken in other parts of our world such as other cities, or perhaps outposts in wild terrain. This isn't' so high on my list of wants, but I certainly wouldn't say no. Especially if instead of just exploring to these areas, we could begin our character's careers here. I'd love to be able to play an international hero in their own country.

Nothing else comes to mind now, but I'm sure it will as soon as I've posted. Everything else that I can think of I want to remain fairly similar to its current state in-game. Please keep costumes as a cosmetic thing, and don't make us upgrade to higher 'gear' so we can keep up. I like our power system structure very much, and wouldn't really want to see that changed much either.

Edit some more!: Yes, I know that the game I'm decribing would require a small supercomputer to run. But we were sorta asked.
  21. I've always thought that they should use the billboard advertising system to advertise AE arcs. Whether it be by an in-game rental service, or by winning one of several top places in a competition. Maybe even Devs' choice arcs or something.
  22. I think that if blasters got a psychic epic pool, they'd get Mind over Body instead of Indomitable Will.

But I'd vote along with going for a DP/Energy blaster, and investing in your fighting power pool, combat jumping, acrobatics if you can happily take superjump, and slot for more survivaility. As a concept player myself, I can see that having to take Power Thrust would bug me. But I'd just remove it from my power tray and never look back. I wouldn't take any attacks from my secondary, but that frees up the power slots for my 'armour' powers, and slots for my primary.

I'm eighteen and I managed to catch that wave. Admittedly, I'm already starting to feel old when me and my friends say things like 'God, back in our day a gameboy was the height of technology. And that was before the multicolour version!'

I do like the range of people this game draws in.

    Edit:
Also complaining about 'those kids who think they're so grown-up with their camera phones and their wireless facetube access'. I remember when kids in Britain would enjoy their friends' company, and when they could say a sentance without every other word being some form of profanity.
  24. On the note of Cimerora, I still think that it's going to be getting quite a bit put into it at some point. If all they wanted was to make a new TF and two contacts, then choosing ancient Rome seems a tad random. There's gotta be a reason for them choosing it, and I'm guessing that a zone with that much art poured into it is going to get some substance.
