I don't really blame Je Saist. We haven't had any particularly recently, but a couple weeks back we couldn't go ten minutes without a six-month vet posting a sarcastic and accusive thread about not being in closed beta yet. Your post appears to be more polite than the other vets, but we have grown weary of them nevertheless.

This would be awesome, since the morality missions are going to be for a rogue or vigilante, I would think that the tip missions have to lead to a type of morality and therefore have two possible outcomes.

So completing the tip mission with the Vigilante option counts towards getting a morality mission that deals with becoming a villain...
I as under the impression that the Morality Missions had choices in them that skewed your morality. Like a 'defeat the bank robber, save the day/defeat the bank robber, take the spoils' kinda thing. If this were the case, then I don't see why the tip missions would be involved with alignment. Never know, though.

If we just invited everyone who will be eventually invited now, it would be disastrous for the beta program. There is a method folks, please be patient.

Also remember that in order to be eligible for beta, your account has to be in good standing.
Closed Beta isn't over yet. You should get your invite before it is.

I'm fairly sure that issue eighteen is the side-along issue that brings the updates for those without the expansion. Should theoretically be going live August seventeenth, if not a day or two before.
  5. Oh wow. I was so sure issue eighteen was going to be called Smoke and Mirrors. Double meaning and all that.

Regardless, this looks fantastic. Looking forward to trying out everything.

  7. First off, I applaud most of the original post.

Secondly, I love it in the small supergroups. If you see the supergroup as a collection of friendly people who just wanna get together and have some fun, you're on the right track as far as I'm concerned. I was curious though, and had a peek into one of the largest sgs on my server (naming no names). I couldn't stand it there. The people were all the kinds of things I find annoying, there was this dictatorship regime, and the base was just plain ugly.

I was more than happy when I found my little supergroup of around five, with a beautiful base that was cared for, and the friendly atmosphere. You can take your #1 supergroup, Captain Bossman, and shove it in an oriface of your choice, thank you very much.
  8. This looks familiar. Is- is that- undoing ED?

  9. I think I had the title of 'King of Mistells' for a bit. None were that bad, although the funniest one I witnessed was actually meant to be to me.

A friend is describing the most obscure (and a tad embarassing) dream that they had to me. It's been all in tells, and I can tell that the story's getting a little... odd. The dream's getting to the 'saucier' bit, and something is about to be revealed, when I see on the servers's badgehunting channel:

    Yes, [my name]
    YOU
    YOU IN HOTPANTS
    YOU IN GOLD HOTPANTS
    GOLD SPARKLY HOTPANTS

There's a moment of silence where I process what just happened. Then there's a few 'Excuse me?' style replies on the channel, the misteller apologises and says how they were meant to be tells, and I almost fall off of my chair laughing.
  10. I found a long time ago that I enjoy my characters most if I play them for what they are at that very moment, and then when it comes to levelling, picking the power that is the most appealing at that exact moment.

My only exceptions are that I try to pick up my travel pre-requisite between six and twelve, and I respec into the fitness pool at level twenty. Other than that, it tends to be very much on the fly, and I love it like that. Every character has been played like that since.
  11. I think that Newspaper/Radio missions are supposed to be quick 'I wanna punch someone in the face without having to think about it' missions that you can jump into. I can see where you're coming from, but I think simplicity is needed somewhere in the game for those who just wanna log in, grab a PuG, and get to earning the experience. Radios do that, and I think it works. In fact, I'd love for the devs to streamline this experience further by having the detectives give out their phone number. When in one of these 'let's go!' teams, I find that having to see to the detective can actually be quite an interruption at the early levels.

I generally stick to story content. I too am left unsatisfied when it's radio-simple.
  12. Pronounciation differs everywhere though, regardless of what's official. The way Posi says it just sounds obscure to me, probably because I'm english. I tend to pronounce it Vij-ih-lahnt-ee. Saying that, I do pronounce 'Lord Recluse' as 'Lord Wreck-lose', even though I pronounce the word Recluse as normal. I also said 'Kime-roar-ah' until I heard War Witch say 'Simmer-or-ah' on a recording of some panel thing.
  13. I definitely think we need to hear a little more about this Noble Savage. His outfit and armour and such seems to be rather Black Scorpion, but his head doesn't match up. He also seems quite Wretch, as has already been said, but unless it's due to the short time he spent living off of sewer water and rats, Wretch is light-skinned.

Of course, we may not know his Primal equivelent at all, but I'm going to be digging for these connections until I've been in Praetoria for quite some time.

That's based on an assumption that Resistance/Loyalist is on the same scale as Hero/Villain.

I'm fairly sure that it's been said somewhere that you can choose either side when the time comes to leave Praetoria regardless of where your allegience lies in your society.
  15. I'm not too sure if you mean not bothering to visit the trainer when you reach a level where you get more slots, or actually slotting enhancements into those slots.

Either way, I skip it until level twelve. Levelling tends to be too quick for enhancements before DOs, so I tend to level in even multiples for the first part of a character's career. I know people who laugh at me because I don't leave it until SOs or even because I'm not using IOs exclusively, but to me the difference is great enough with DOs to be worth it, and I find that visiting my local stores to be far more convenient than visiting Wentworths before forty-seven. Even if it is sometimes more pricey.
  16. I've always thought that changing your font at all was to differentiate between the letter I and the letter l; although I've never understood why Comic Sans is a big choice. It haunts my childhood.

I've also never looked into changing the in-game font. I kinda like it as is. But that font you've posted is pretty awesome. You may have convinced me.

Edited to add a link relevent to the discussion.
  17. Pre-emptively wish all you like. It's been his birthday here for an hour and a half.

    Happy Birthday! -Party Popper-
  18. I'm fond of the idea of running the story forward, updating zones and enemy groups, and retiring contacts when their missions no longer make sense. Put them in Ouroboros so that we don't actually lose content, and lower Ouroboros's entry level so people don't have to wait until twenty-five to do one of their favourite old lowbie arcs.

I know I've made it sound like I think it's simple, but I'm well aware it's beyond time-consuming. I just feel that while the world can keep expanding and expanding, the early arcs and the old contacts are just going to keep looking more and more out of date. Many enemy groups haven't progressed at all in years, and I think it's about time Dr Vahzilok had a breakthrough in his particular area of science. Why not have a new branch of Vahzilok around level thirty-five that are around fifteen feet tall and deadly?

On the note of Statesman and Recluse, I think we've probably had enough of them by now. I think it's around time that there was a change in the line-up, or a new major player.

    Cute Newbies

I've read plenty of stories on these forums about dreadfully inexperienced players. Don't get me wrong, I like these stories. However, I don't feel there are enough stories about the bad players' brethren: the cute newbie.

I was flashbacking Flux's arc earlier. I was en route back to him after the first mission, where I came across a couple of outcasts punching a blaster who simply wasn't fighting back. I stood by, keeping an eye on his health bar. If it got low enough, I'd just go save the li'l guy. I watched on, curious as to why this blaster wasn't fighting back. I hadn't been there long, but long enough to throw a couple of attacks out. Then the speech bubble appeared above his head.

    'Where is the hideout?'

He then went on to blast away at this group, and made short work of them. I smiled at this odd little roleplayer, and turned to be on my way. But the blaster ran to me and stopped. I only thought it polite to wait.

'Excuse me, are these the right Outcasts?'

I wasn't too sure what he was talking about, but tried to help him out. When he realised I was clueless, he told me not to mind and ran off. I went on with my arc.

Two missions later, it all clicks into place. Flux is setting me up for my next mission.

So first I need you to hit the streets and take out a few Outcasts. Then you can claim you learned the base's location from them. Keep asking about the hideout. It doesn't matter if you get an answer or not; the only thing that matters is that you put on a good show.'

It would appear this guy thought that he actually had to ask the outcasts he fought about the the location of Frostfire's hideout. Bless. Of course, there's the chance he was a roleplayer, but I thought it sweet nevertheless.

Has anybody else come across the cute newbie? I'm itching to hear a story or two.
  22. Not saying I won't have a go, but this thread is dedicated pretty much entirely to this.

Edit: Gah, Alpha's too quick for me.

I didn't think this was the case at all, so my apologies. But if that is indeed the case, then Alpha's suggestion's golden.
