Quote:Fantastic to hear. Thanks a ton, Mr. Savage. This is absolutely true. The ONLY thing we're judging is the photo content. Typing out the zone names is just for fun, and we've got the frames of course. So if you send us a layered file w/ photos and we can open it, you're good.
Think I'll finally push my efforts up a gear now I can just forget about getting those final frames. The thought of not being able to submit any hazard zones or use one of the hero frames put me off getting on with my entries, but now I'm eager to get on and relax. -
Beside a couple of potential methods of abusing what is essentially goodwill, I honestly don't think your suggestion is a bad one, even though I'd have no use for it personally. But it is by no means necessary, and I don't particularly think you're going about it the right way.
This particularly struck me:
-
I think the agenda behind these threads seems borderline spamming, but I'm curious to see the answers to these two questions, so I'll throw mine in too.
I currently have seventeen characters in my rotation. One of which has a second build. -
Turns out I've a family occasion on the fourth, so I'll no longer be coming. Not that it can't be done with one less person, but I'm mildly disappointed that I will manage to not partake in a Hami raid once again.
My best of luck to you all, though. -
Just the other day, we were talking on our server's chat channel about odd things we do to restrict our own gameplay, but get enjoyment out of. We had a couple of odd ones, but then Damz and I agreed that we'd like a peek at your spreadsheet. So I find it odd that it's here only a couple of days later.
Thanks for sharing; it's a truly fascinating insight. -
Oh, certainly only once in a while. I didn't say it in my post, but I definitely think it should be a very low chance. Anything more than a low chance, and the frequency of runners that we get alone could mean that were they to alert groups of players' presence, we'd get pretty swamped pretty fast.
-
I'm one of those that is in favour of keeping the flee mechanic, but tuning it considerably. As far as I'm concerned, fleeing makes sense in ninety percent of the game.
What doesn't seem to make sense to me is the supposedly powerful entities, such as GMs and AVs running. Or at least them running as soon as they do. If they were flagged to either not run at all, or only run when they're getting a really serious beating and are very low on health, I think they could be a little more bearable.
The other aspect I'm not fond of is how far a fleeing mob can run, and how they don't actually use their borrowed time wisely. I think that the distance that fleeing mobs run should be reduced by a large amount, and that there should be a chance of them 'alerting' another group to your presence, as well as a chance of them fleeing the map entirely and counting as 'defeated' for mission objective purposes. Having a group turn around the corner to attack you could be daunting, but I feel it would add a realism to the game that requires us to be prepared.
Here's hoping that this thread gets the mechanic looked at, and ideally tweaked. -
Quote:You may well be right here. If they can open the files fine at the other end, then there shouldn't be a problem. I will admit, this is partially just paranoia that I'll do some wonderful work, and then whoever opens it gets a 'this file is corrupt' message, therefore throwing my work out before it's even considered.Ultimately, I don't see how the corruption of the frames themselves matters much... it is the things under the frame that are being judged. As long as you can get them open (and it seems most can... they just look crappy) then I dunno that there really IS a problem.
What you guys should test, is whether saving the file with your screens in it and then re-opening it will have any adverse effects on the actual screenshots or not. If it doesn't, aren't you still golden? Just a thought.
However, this doesn't ring as true with the two frames I've been unable to open at all. If I were to submit my entries at this point, I would be unable to submit anything at all with the third hero frames, or with the hazard frames.
In any case, I haven't let it stop me getting on with things. I've been going around and snapping shots of the world, and storing them away. I don't really need the frames until towards the end, but I just want to make sure I know where the frames stand before it comes to the time where I want to submit. -
I love that the newspapers are like that. I was kind of expecting it with the different papers for Paragon and the Isles, but I'm happy to see it nevertheless.
I'm also liking how my loyalists can /em drinkenriche while I'm afk. -
Quote:So funny. Thanks, Michelle. It's so painful to read, but it never fails to give me the giggles. I thought it fairly fitting for this thread.http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...6&postcount=53
It hurts to read it... it really does.

Like someone who posted earlier on, I've been looking at the Praetorian morality 'trees', and comparing them to our Primal Earth moralities. I agree that the Crusaders are villainous and that the Power Loyalists are rogueish. But I actually felt that the Warden's and Responsibility Loyalist's moralities were reversed. I think that wardens seem more heroic: while they may be operating outside the law, they're standing up for what's right with as few unnecessary casualties as possible. Responsibility loyalists seem a little faster to execute somebody for treason, which I think brings them down a bit to vigilante.
This may, of course, be biased by my own characters in each branch. I've only got partway through Imperial, though.
*CRUSADER ARC SPOILERS*
Actually, there is one arc in the Crusader storyline where you kidnap a PPD officer to interrogate him. When he doesn't sing, you kidnap his family. Once he's talked, he gets shot in the head, and you get to choose whether to blow his family up or not.
Charming, eh?

Are the hero frames being looked into, or am I going to have to try and find someone with a working copy to get them from? I don't mean to sound like I'm pestering, nor am I assuming that nothing is being done. I'm just curious about whether I should wait for an update, or seek out help myself.
Also, are some people able to open them all; first try, no problems? It would be nice to identify this as either a problem with the files, or a problem with some peoples' connections or systems. -
Does anyone have the link to that bio handy where the character in question learned more powers because he beat his lesbian hellion parents in a duel? I can't remember where I saw it, but that had me cracking up.
-
One the note of PFF; I completely misunderstood. My apologies to the person I was replying to.
-
Then go change your difficulty at a Noteriety-
Oh yeah.
I'm actually suprised these aren't in yet. The map markers were in a couple of weeks before public release, so I thought they would be in soon. I'm hoping that they're in before long. Ideally I'd like an AnnahBeldam as well, but they're not as critical.
Quote:thank you for this
now i ask two favors:
1. Fix the COP AV so he doesnt shoot through PFF -
Photoshop Elements 8, while very pretty, is throwing me the same issues as I reported on CS4 in my earlier post. It is opening the 'working' backups okay for now.
Paint Shop Pro 7 didn't open any of them, but it didn't open any of my other photoshop files either, so it would appear I was mistaken in thinking that PSP'd open them.
I can't think of a suggestion to make to the art team, but I can suggest that players having issues attempt to download the files a couple more times. You may get lucky and find that they open without a hitch on the sixth or seventh download. This did happen to me the first time they were uploaded, though, and they refused to open the following day. -
Interesting to see that Canine is getting different, yet similar corruption to myself. I have been testing this using Photoshop CS4. I will be testing it out on the trial provided in the announcement, along with Paint Shop Pro 7 in a while to see if my results differ.
I'm afraid I can't say there's been an improvement since the re-upload. However, I've downloaded each frame several times, and can say that it seems that the error message I get when trying to open the file seems fairly random. Some of the time, I will get:
Quote:Opening these documents anyway indeed does often result in corrupted pixels, that appear green in colour. Working with these, while plausible, would be a headache to the art team when sent back. The pixels in question are in horizontal rows on the layer containing the actual artwork for the 'windowframes' (layer 183 on H_LoadingScreen_1 for example). Disabling layer blending effects does not affect the corrupted pixels. This document has been damaged by a disk error. The most likely causes of this error are: a defective disk drive, a defective disk drive cable, or incorrect peripheral cable termination. Some of the pixels in this document may be invalid. Open anyway?
Other times, I get this: (Whilst opening H_LoadingScreen_2 in this case)
Quote:A problem was encountered reading layer
"Layer 132"
because of program error.
Continue?
The third error message I'm sometimes getting is:
Quote:Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop.
Other times I am able to save and open the file without a problem, although this is around 5% of the time. Sometimes these 'working' files will later switch to one of the above error messages, and cannot be used. I have backed up the 'working' files to try out later. However, all of these files have a perfect-looking preview in the Bridge Browser, including those that produce any of the above errors.
I think that these files were either corrupted before the were uploaded, or part of the uploading/downloading process is messing up that one particular layer. Canine's results would imply to me that it is an issue with our versions of Photoshop, as we're getting different errors. As I said at the beginning of my post, I'll be trying this out on different software to compare. -
-
Awwh, I got excited for a minute there. Good luck to those who're entering anyway.
-
I think it's about time I actually partake in a Hami raid. I've never, ever done one, and I don't understand why. Count me in; I'd love to bring my namesake along for the ride.
Edit: One thousandth post. Awesome. All the most reason to agree to do something epic, methinks. -
Avatea, from what I've read, the issues with the hero frames may be limited to a particular version of photoshop. Every time I've read someone with the issue, myself included, we've been using the CS series. I think that they may need to be re-uploaded with maximised compatability, unless that would cause issues with the art team being able to open them once they got back. I doubt it would, though.
Edited for further clarity for coin!
As for getting your screenshots into the frames:- Open the frame in photoshop.
- Open your screenshots in photoshop. (city of heroes/screenshots by default, if you didn't know)
- With your screenshot in front of you, select the entire picture with ctrl+a or via the menu at the top.
- Copy!
- Go back to your frames, and select the layer that you want to paste into,
- and paste!
- If you open up the scaling tool, (edit/transform/scale), you can resize your screenshot, as well as move it around in the frame.
- Repeat!
I've really enjoyed snapping around for this contest already, even if I've been limited to the villain frames thus far. I didn't think I'd need the length of the entire contest, but based on how long I'm spending on my current ones, I might well do. -
As we're sending back photoshop projects rather than bitmaps, we don't really need to have the appropriate font to make our submissions. Screens will likely be tweaked by the art team before they're put forward for the game, and fixing fonts and spelling errors would be a part of that process.
-
Quote:I'd quite like this too, if at all possible. If it'd be a problem, then it can of course wait for some dev attention, but to have access to the blue screens sooner would be great.Would anyone who's ABLE to open these files be willing to save them with maximized compatability and put them up for download elsewhere? Or should we wait until the devs get back into the offices on monday?
On the note of no NPCs if you can avoid it, can I assume that Monster Island is an exception to this rule? The current screen has a Quarry on it, and without the monsters, Tempest Quay isn't really worth snapping.
I'm also curious as to how the person who'll be opening the emails would prefer multiple submissions. If I were to submit one screen for each zone, for example, would one attachment per email be preffered, or as many attachments per email as I can manage? I understand this may not be up to Mr. Savage, but I'd like to know before the competition's over, obviously. -
Quote:This is what I had with CS4. Villain screens loading fine, Hero ones playing up. After I fiddled about and saved the hero screens a couple of times each, they started working okay. The hazard frame however, has not worked at all for me thus far.Dear whoever it concerns,
The hero files say they are corrupt when I download and open them in Photoshop CS3 (although they open anyway). The hazard zone image also says it is incompatible with my version of photoshop, and villain files load just fine ... What gives ?
Edit: Scratch that. Trying to open the hero frames I had saved isn't working today. The annoying thing is, it can load up a perfectly fine preview in Bridge, but just can't open it. Gah. -
