Love this. I know some sort of mecha/armor power is highly requested.

I imagine the powersets for this set would feature a branching AT system like SoAs. Also, while tied in with the lore, this would also basically allow the Devs to, for once, go hogwild and make a purely magically themed powerset and animations, which is something some players have hoped for.
    I LOVE this idea. L*O*V*E!

Branching sounds good, but I could also see this using the same "change damage type" mechanic that dual pistols uses (eg., depending on the situation, the mage could shoot fire, dark, or ice blasts; give fire, dark, or ice buffs/debuffs). I'd love to summon a healing circle (think "Tree of Life," but using the Demon MM summoning circles). I'd love this kind of mage idea so much I'd end up rerolling several characters to use it.

    Counter question:

Let's say, hypothetically, we introduced a new AT, but because of the amount of time and cost it would take to develop it, we had no choice but to offer it in the Paragon Market (a possible scenario).

Based on our established precedents, what do you feel would be a fair price, in Paragon Points?

    I'm interested in your responses.
It would all depend on how "new" the set was. If a new archetype is just old powers rearranged and tweaked (say, a "buff/melee" archetype), then I'd say they should cost the same as MMs and Controllers. But if there's something new to the archetype, then it could/should be more.

I appreciate how Scarlet Shocker put it:

The post I was talking about came from this Intrepid Informer. The discussion thread has lots talk about the removed bits, although I don't see any actual quotes of what was removed. Looking through the discussion, sounds like before it was edited, the post mentioned a croc head and how it might better fit a theoretical reptile/dino pack.

Perhaps you're thinking of this: when the Animal Booster came out, there was a dev diary (or some other dev-authored post) which, for a few hours anyway, talked about them having so many animal ideas that they had to split it into two packs, so ideas for a reptile or dino pack (can't remember exact wording now) was being saved for later. The brief mention was edited out of the post afterwards.

  4. Great interview!

So many of these turn out as if the interviewer is just checking off bullet points from some press release, with answers that have been generated by the marketing code-bot and repeated word-for-word in interview after interview. This was refreshing, and honestly how it should be done more often.

The people of King's Row need heroes, because, even with Blue Steel standing there, even with Paragon PD headquarters in the zone, it is obvious just walking through it: ever since Statesman bankrupted the King Garment Works for their Family ties, King's Row is the neighborhood that everybody else left behind, that nobody cares about.

But I'd honestly love to see Kings Row get a new, actual story arc involving PPD, gang wars and violence, drug smuggling and distribution, and an overall behind-the-scenes plot that alludes to higher level content and enemy groups without actually having you come in contact with them just yet.
Given its size, the police HQ is highly under-utilized. I agree, let us go inside. Heck, make it the centerpiece for for a new Kings Row story. The PPD Trial or something.

I'd love to see the STORIES in Kings Row get updated, and I'd love to see more (something, anything) done with Police HQ. But I don't need to see the physical zone itself revamped much at all.

When asked for clarification, it was said that that means that the power sets will be released after Issue 22's release date, but before Issue 23.

Furthermore, they've outright said that the three Dark powersets are the only ones going live with I22.

There's really shouldn't be anything surprising here.
I agree that, up until now, they've been clear about the sets not being released with I22. But they've created a bit of confusion for themselves with this trailer & announcement. I showed it to my boyfriend last night, and he said, "oh, so Staffs and Beasts are coming in the update today? I thought we had to wait for those." I told him we did indeed have to wait, and he says, "oh, well that's dumb to advertise them as part of today's update, then."

The video is a trailer for Issue 22, and the announcement page says Issue 22 is live. They could have been MUCH clearer (in the video and/or the announcement page) that the video showcases powers that are not part of the initial I22 release.

For many months, I didn't use my free server transfers. But after 10 or more accumulated, I transferred a lot of characters to Virtue to play with friends. I'm very pleased with my character's new home, but I never would have spent money to transfer them. I like having the free transfers.

I wouldn't mind what some others are describing as "account tokens" which would let us choose from a variety of account services (transfers, renames, respecs, extra slots, etc), but I would hate to see the transfer tokens completely replaced with alignment change tokens -- I can't imagine using those at all. I'm happy with the sides I've chosen, and if I wanted an alignment change, I would do it in game.

This. Even though I already have the prestige slide, I'd be much more interested in a slide without the glow. The slide looks nice with the frost path aura, but the glow obscures it (and other auras/path auras) quite a bit. A non-glowy version is just what we need. It would allow the current version to remain an exclusive, while giving players access to something very similar.

I've been somewhat of a ranter about these packs, specifically about the poor chance to get a wolf, and how much of the "consumables" aren't useful for the way I play the game (my playstyle, to paraphrase Fernando, "it is better to look good than to fight good"). I did get the full costume set within my first 24-pack, so that part wasn't a problem for me, but the rest of what I got seemed like so much filler I would never use. "Ugh... consumables." But this weekend, I had a chance to go through all the consumables I'd won from the packs, and after I did, I'm a bit more enthused.

Inf/XP/Prestige boosters and self/other revives all make sense in a way I can understand, but they're not "sexy" to me in the same way that costumes and pets are. So at first, it seemed like my email item tab was now cluttered with even more nonsense. But as it turns out, I had received a LOT of merits. A LOT. Boyfriend mentioned that I could now afford that stealth proc I've been wanting. Probably several. OH REALLY?!?! See, you must understand that for me, a stealth proc is as much a "look good" as it is a "play good," so this excited that costuming part of my brain. Since boyfriend plays with inventions much more than I do, he helped me pick the right one, and soon I had some very stealthy alts. Awesome! Thanks, Super Packs!

With boyfriend's help, I'm now in the process of slotting inventions into my main for the first time. (EGADS! Who'd have thought!) I plan on using some of the ATOs I received for my main, and I'll be giving boyfriend several more. The rest have sold/will sell for a very nice chunk of change on the market. I'm sure the market value on these things will go down eventually, but I'm surprised at how much inf I've made from what I got in these packs. I know inf isn't exactly hard to come by in this game, but these packs are much closer to selling inf than I realized they would be.

I still haven't really taken to the inspirations yet, but I plan to give them an honest try next time I sit down for a longer play session, and perhaps I'll find them as surprisingly useful as I did the merits/ATOs.

I still think the incredibly low drop rate of the wolf pet is toooooooo low. I don't mind it being rare, but it needs to be achievable enough that it works to motivate me, not discourage me. But I will concede the packs have been a better experience than I thought they would be, and some of the consumables aren't nearly the waste I thought.

Where do CCEmotes fall? I ask because the timing of the Peacebringer CCEmote is really, really delayed when hovering/flying. It has been ever since it debuted on test years ago. It would be really nice to be able to use that emote while hovering/flying, so if you could point me to the right thread/person/whatnot where I should bring up this issue, it would be swell.

    A) revamped old school/spandex tights similar to the ones we already have (adding a few details like seams but still mostly plain)

    B) modern tights (w/ ribbing, surface texture(s), subdivided surfaces) a la Ultimates 1 or Marvel movies

    C) pieces we just haven't made before (e.g. domino mask)

I'm still not even sure I understand what you mean by "Golden/Silver Age" here. Golden Age, to me, says loose fitting super hero costumes, puffy sleeves (eg. Green Lanter Alan Scott), and the 1940s hair styles posted earlier. Silver Age, to me, says slick, form-fitting full body suit tights with no seams at all (not much different from what we have now, honestly). The more modern movie tights you describe sound cool, but they don't sound like they're either Golden or Silver Age, but from a more Modern Heroic Age.

If we're just talking in general about better tights and mask details, I'm all for it, regardless of how it happens or what you call it. But I'd never consider referring to "Ultimates/Marvel Movie" style tights as Golden/Sliver Age. That's a lesson (hopefully) learned from the Gunslinger pack.

If I used a Reward Token and got no costume piece at all, I'd be furious to have wasted a token only to get nothing of value to me. I haven't used any of my tokens on the repeatable stuff yet, and have no plans to start with these gambling grab bags.

  19. The hyperbole regarding strippers and prostitutes has gotten out of hand. Are many of the new pieces sexy? Sure. But that doesn't necessarily equate to strippers or prostitutes. Strippers and prostitutes would be lucky to dress so well.

Do I wish there had been chaps and such for women? Most definitely. But that doesn't mean I dislike the parts they gave us. Well, okay, I do dislike the stripes on the bustle, which irk me quite a bit because I'd use it in a heartbeat on one character if it was a solid color. But I'm quite pleased that they've added so many new corsets/chest details lately, as well as a few new skirts, and those great bustles. The Bolero Jacket from the steampunk pack is wicked awesome. These pieces really given women more options, both sexy (if you wear the corsets by themselves) and not-so-sexy (when you combine them with less revealing chest patterns or jackets).

What would have helped this not feel so repetitive would be had they changed up the order of what packs we got, so that all the new corset pieces didn't come out one-after-another. But that doesn't mean I dislike them. I love them, and would never get rid of them.

I feel the same way. This is much more a marketing failure than an art failure. On the art front, the pieces are pretty good. But whoever decided on the name "Gunslinger" was just looking for a flashy heroic name, ignoring the fact that name misrepresents a good bit of what's in the pack.

I'm split on "gender equality." I know how much work it takes to make costume parts. And the only actual options are:

    A) Everyone gets the same costume parts, which means no more skirts/frill/lace or girly stuff.

    B) Everyone gets the same costume parts, and then women get girly stuff, meaning men just get less costume parts period.

    C) Everyone gets the same costume parts including girly stuff, so men get corsets and high heels that are a huge waste of developer time for incredibly narrow appeal.

    D) Everyone gets close to the same stuff, but sometimes women just get girly stuff instead.

Logically, none of those options will please people. Someone will always be displeased. Someone will always feel cheated. So I don't have a problem with this pack as-is. I like the girly stuff (and I'm a girl myself). Yes I'd like some chaps to go with them, but I'm not going to outright call this pack sexist. We've had some of both packs -- heck even the OP points it out.

I can even see why they have a fascination with corsets as people pointed out. It's because up until now we didn't have any. So they're adding a bunch because it's an as of yet untapped area. It's possible you don't like corsets, but there are people out there who have been wanting corsets for years and finally get some options.

I can't even suggest how the devs could do "better" in the future. There's nothing "better" to strive for. All they can do is shift their current goal and disappoint a different subset of people. Sure, they could start giving women pants all the time, but enough rounds of that and I'd personally make a "Where Are My Frikkin Skirts At" thread.
    Well stated.

    Yes.

Those Praetorian Police (?) shoulder pads with the yellow stripe baked in? Hate 'em with a passion. I've tried to use them on several characters, but that yellow stripe always ruins it. The Steampunk backpack that's pretinted that brassy brown? Hate it (although not as much as the yellow lines). The Gunslinger bustle with the stripes baked in? I'm starting to get the same feeling, because that piece would be so useful if it wasn't stripes all the time.

I don't mind (so much) having the two colors that we choose blend to create a third color, so long as I'm in control of what the colors are. But the moment you guys choose a color for us, whether it's through pre-tinting (like the Steampunk stuff), or just completely baked in and unchangeable (like the Praetorian shoulders), you make it much harder to use the pieces in creative ways.

  22. This is a topic I've thought about fairly recently, even to the point of almost posting a question thread not that long ago. I was curious how others followed the game's plot, or if they even bothered. To follow the story of CoH, do people do a solo run-through just for plot, so they have time to read through everything? Or do they try to follow along while playing on teams, which tend to move faster and may include some info that's only available to the mission owner/leader?

It's always felt to me personally that CoH's story is intended to be (mostly) experienced as a solo player, even while the game's rewards structure makes large teams much more efficient at progressing through the game. So it's interesting reading some of the solutions for keeping up with the story in this thread (custom NPC/cutscene chat channels, reading clues after-the-fact, etc). Given what I've read, I think I'll stick to playing through missions solo. I don't want to do post-mission research just to find out what I accomplished. I want to follow the story as it happens, which seems (to me) to be far easier solo.

  23. Not much to get excited about, but nothing to get upset about either. Well... nothing except the timing. I'm not sure why they waited until after Halloween for this one. Did they not realize Halloween was yesterday? Then again, this is the same Dev team that give us a Spring Fling that ends weeks before Spring officially begins, so maybe they just don't understand how calendars work at Paragon Studios. :-)

Last week I bought one of the costume codes (the Rikti Mentalist), and despite the forum proclaiming them complete rip-offs at that price, I didn't feel cheated in the slightest. Likewise, I do very much like the War Wolf Whistle as a purchasable power. Assuming it's sold separately (and it looks like it is), then I'll seriously consider buying it for a character or two.

  25. The pumpkin head is earned by killing a certain number of zombie apocalypse zombies. I LOVE that pumpkin head.

We also used to have an emote in-game which briefly transformed your character into a pumpkin. It was awesome... but sadly was changed so that now you transform into the various "Gravity: Propel" objects. That's cool too, in a different way, but I miss the ol' pumpkin. So this year, I'd love to see a new emote which did exactly what the old "alakazamreact" emote did -- change you into a pumpkin, and only a pumpkin.

    Pretty please?
