Quote:I really, really hope this is not the case here. Since Synapse has gone on record as stating there was no intention to change drop rates at all, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.I am wondering if there wasn't a "stealth" change to recipe drop-rates, and here's why: the new eight-man setting.
Leaving the rates alone would mean that people could be alone in a mission and come out with an ungodly amount of recipes anyways. This of course would be an "exploit."
So to prevent "exploits," recipe drop rate was greatly reduced - and I seem to be seeing less salvage these days as well, although I may be wrong on that one. What people never seem to remember is that anytime we get a new ability such as this, something else will be "adjusted" in the name of "balance." Therefore be careful what you wish for, you may just end up paying for it in some unexpected way. -
Quote:Yes, from a strict standpoint of server mechanics I'm sure a few servers could be physically merged and cause no technical issues.i know "most" of you are trying to pretend to be cool and flame the op for actually having an opinion of his own and as silly as that may be
i agree with him( yes the op)...guardian is the black hole of despair...no one teams for **** there anymore ( except for farming the same tf's daily)and yes im aware i can server transfer and yes im aware i can go to virtue and freedom and then every couple of months get locked out of my server and come on here and cry like a whiny baby like you all do and ***** about how you cant play the game and all how the devs need to do something about it
but truth be told you "could" actually merge a few and have no issue at all.lag or other wise
i ALSO know of PLENTY of people not on the forums but ingame who share this feeling. i also know QUITE few that have left the game because of the ghost town aftermasses currently hitting a few of the servers
so at the end of day...ghost town servers are in need of help. yes they are and the devs SHOULD do something about it .
However........what about character names? SG Names? How many players might have to give up names on characters they had literally had for years just because someone else from a different server had the name a few days earlier?
There are a great many people that play this game that have characters spread across multiple servers. Those people would potentially stand to face a lot of hassles, which would not in the long run be good for the community at all. -
Quote:Now now, we all know that newbs can't team up on their own! They have to have a 50 to do the herding!Countless:
Adjective
Definition - Too numerous to be counted.
Query: If as the OP states the number of newbs is so great that they cannot be counted, doesn't that invalidate his claim that the servers are "ghost towns"?
It seems to me if there are countless newbs they can easily team with each other. -
Quote:You keep mentioning "nite time". What timeframe specifically do you mean by that? If you're talking 12:00 am or later, then yeah, you're not going to see lots of people on. Sorry, but it is unreasonable of you to expect the servers to be brimming with activity at all times of the day and night. Not even WoW, that monstrosity of MMO's, has servers that are as busy as you appear to want at all times of the day and night.will you guys can all be denial,i love to have what your all smoking, sense where living in diff realitys
"Yay, you love having huge lag spikes as you get near the black market/wentworths and a busy broadcast. Congrats. Enjoy Freedom. Some of us - many of which you will get replies from with this subject - like *low population* servers. If we *wanted* to be on Freedom, we'd *be* on Freedom."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, when was that post made 2004, about Freedom
HAHAHAHA i am on freedom, lag spikes near market, and busy broadcasts
O your funny, i have not seen One of these,
i have Seen none of this , its a ghost time during nite time
If extremely late at night is the only time you can play, then yeah that sucks. But it's not a fault of the game, the servers, or the playerbase that your personal schedule puts your playtime during what is largely considered "off hours" by everyone else. -
Quote:I am going to have to agree. This has the earmarks of the type of bug that may be around for a while. I just hope the fallout from this doesn't upset the Markets too badly. Prices on some recipes were already inflated enough without a bug like this making the situation worse.well back to AE by the looks of it, tix still seem to drop quickly enough and while I actually like random drops while playing much more I definitely prefer something to nothing
.
Synapse's post does nothing but make this issue look like a fix is not in the foreseeable future.
So much for getting my Tanker soft-capped in the near future, I guess. -
I just wanted to put in my 2 cents and hopefully add to the growing data concerning this issue.
Last night I was running missions with a couple friends on my level 32 Tanker.
We had mobs set to even level and team size to 8 for the three of us.
Over the course of four door missions, one teammate got 3 recipes, I got 5, and another teammate got 1. So a total of 9 recipes spread across 3 people on four door missions sized for 8 players. That just doesn't sound right to me.
After those missions, we got joined by one more person (another Tanker). We then did the fire/emp's mission (he was level 50, so everyone but him was SK'd to 49). His difficulty was set to even level, team of 4. Since we were already a team of 4, the spawns were normal for that team size anyway. It was the mission from Unai Kemen to kill Requiem. It was a fairly large outdoor map FILLED with werewolves. We cleared the entire map. Not one recipe of any kind dropped for anyone.
Perception issue, huh? I'm sorry but I disagree. Something is wrong. My server's global channels are filled with people complaining about the drop rates. As a former programmer, I understand that a bug like this is going to be murder for the dev's to fix as it appears totally random and thus very hard to reproduce. But I firmly believe the bug is real. I just hope the Dev's listen to us, can find it, and fix the bloody thing. -
Quote:I will agree that the low level experience on a Tanker can be frustrating.I completely agree with this statement. I too feel this is a HUGE and I mean HUGE playability issue. For COH, tankers are just the suck and i too have never managed to get into one long enough to move forward with one. I quit the game long ago before i could as well. I recently came back to see what improvements have happened, and am still utterly disappointed in low lvl tanks.... your damage is so unbeliebably low and your tanking is unbelieveably bad... = the suck.
They should nearly be invunerable to damage from the start if their damage is going to suck that bad.... so they can focus on damage to make the experience more manageable...
But if you want something that is not just manageable but actually fun to play... they need alot more of both. Otherwise what the hell is super about these super character except their super suck.
But it's just as frustrating on many other characters Pre-Stamina and Pre-SO's. For example, Brutes often have massive endurance issues in the low levels, despite being a high damage AT. Tankers by no means have the monopoly on this.
The best advice I can give is to come up with a concept you like, slot intelligently for endurance management, and just tough it out. After all, the low levels don't take that long. Put together a team, run a bunch of missions, you'll be 20 (or higher) in the blink of an eye.
Trust me, it does get better. Much much better. My Ice/Ice routinely wades into 8 man spawns and barely takes damage. And his kill speed, while nowhere near a Blaster's or Scrapper's, is quite acceptable considering the extreme survivability he pairs with it.

I went AFK the other day and when I got back had a blind SG Coalition invite sitting on my screen.
I got a good chuckle out of that one as I hit "no". -
Quote:How very odd. With SSK about the only character I'm picky about exemping down any more is my Ice Tanker. I remember all too well how terrible his endurance issues were before Energy Absorption and have no desire to return to that. Since that only locks him out of two TF's (you cannot take EA before 26), it's no biggie. I just say "no thanks" to any invites for Posi and/or Synapse. For the first time level 50s are sending me response /tells saying no with the SPECIFIC reason that they "don't have access to all their powers" at that level. So basically, as I call it, level 50 snobbery.
Maybe some of these 50's giving you that response are the infamous "AE Babies" and they just can't stand losing any powers at all to exemping? Maybe they don't understand that as an exemped 50 they will still be stronger than a character that is naturally that level, even minus some of their higher tier powers. -

Quote:Indeed. There are those rare moments of unexpected glee when you half heartedly check a name you know must have been taken, only to get the 'This character name is available' message.
One year ago, after CoH/V had been out for over four years, I created an Ice Dominator named Cryonics. I was absolutely stunned the name wasn't taken. And tickled out of my mind at the same time. -
Yep. Had it on auto all night.
As to your point Carnifax, I guess I just didn't say anything because this particular friend of mine is pretty stubborn. I know him well enough by now to know saying something wouldn't have done any good.
So rather than start an argument, I just kept my mouth shut and blew off some steam here on the forums.
I just found his obsession with "tanking" every spawn kind of annoying, since we had absolutely zero issues prior to him starting that up. There really was no need for him to do it at all. Again, just blowing off steam. -
So I was running my new Brute with some friends tonight.
Our group consisted of:- Claws/Inv brute
- Claws/WP brute (me)
- Archery/TA corr
- Rad/Dark corr
I used every trick I could to get Fury going, chaining my attacks, Brawl on auto, etc. But the only Fury generation I was getting was from my attacks. My friend even taunted mobs off me a few times when my health was at or nearly full. Since my Fury was staying fairly low, this of course led to End issues as well since my damage wasn't as high as it should have been.
I gritted my teeth and didn't say anything, resolving that I would never under any circumstances run another Brute alongside my buddy again.
I just wanted to get this off my chest because, well, it really ticked me off. So to all you Taunt spamming Brutes out there, please remember that when you're grouped with other Brutes, they need a little Fury too. And not every Brute takes Taunt by level 16. -
Quote:Oh I can definitely understand. My Crab was initially 8 feet tall and used the huge model. My goal was to make him look as much like an NPC Crab as possible. Well the good news was I succeeded. The bad news was that cave maps were impossibly annoying. And I'm one of the folks that loves the legs.Huntsman are fun but there's nothing wrong with crabs unless you hate the legs (and many of us really despise them).
Thankfully I have the Science Booster, so I made all of his alternate costumes a good deal shorter. -
My first forum handle way way back was MindSplinter, named after my Illusion controller.
However when we first got PowerSet Proliferation (I12 I think?) I very quickly fell in love with Steel Shaman, my Robot/Storm mastermind. When it was announced we needed to consider changing our handle prior to the migration to the new boards, I took the opportunity to rename my forum persona after my favorite character. -

Quote:"Aesthetic annoyances?!"omg I don't have to? I thought I did. Thank you captain obvious.
This certainly does suck. The crab gets a few really cool powers you can't get with the bane, yet unlike the bane you can't avoid aesthetic annoyances in order to use them.
crab legs are stupid looking.
IMHO the crab backpack is not a mere annoyance. It's the reason I made one! I understand not everyone likes the backpack, different strokes and all that, but that's why we have Banes. -
Quote:You're doing something wrong then.I hate to be that guy, but I mean, surely there are other people that are impatiently waiting for i16 to come around just so we can play the game again.
I've had no luck finding or starting any team past level 20 up through level 40, usually 4-8 players per zone outside of atlas, most of them level 50's running past TF's or badging.
And that's on Freedom. Oh wait. That's on Freedom. Is it different over on Virtue? Is it worth paying to move my character?
My usual strategy is to send a whisper something like this: "Hey there, level XX team doing missions, would you like to join?"
At the same time as the above I also hit broadcast just for giggles.
And then I hit the global channels.
Within only a few minutes I have a team.
Oh, and I play on Liberty. One of those supposed "ghost town" servers people are always kvetching about. -
-
Plant/Fire is an excellent combo.
Mine will hit 50 in the next few days. Leveling him has been a blast. -
Only one character....wow.
Hehe, the other day I told my leveling partner we were going to need to pick an alt server soon, as I was running out of characters I wanted to delete on Liberty. My alt-itis is severe and ongoing. They tried shock therapy once, but all that did was give me an idea for another alt. -
Castle confirmed today that it is a bug. See below:

I personally find efficiency to be relaxing. But then I'm a hopeless nerd in real life who actually enjoys things like mathematics and problem solving. To me, everything is about numbers. It's just the way I'm wired. So yes, if my gameplay is not efficient it irritates me.

Quote:I agree. The first thing I thought when I saw it was that it was a nerf specifically aimed at making Freaks undesirable for PL'ing. I disagree with it because it impacts normal gameplay as well. That amount of reduction is just too much, imho, and will cause me to avoid any Freak-centric story arcs entirely in favor of arcs where mobs give standard xp levels without having to hope for a random gimmick (the self rez) to bring them up to normal xp (on the scale of an entire mission's worth of mobs). The problem is, I don't think there's anything BUT a consensus on that point. No one has really supported the degree to which Freak XP is slated to decrease. On its own it seems like too much of a decrease, and then when you put it into the context of other groups it seems even more out of whack.

Quote:I don't exactly sit there timing how long it takes me to eliminate a spawn. To me, "reasonable time frame" is before my Endurance bar runs out.Define "reasonable time frame". I'll bet yours differs from Billy Jo Bob.
Also, "I win" button? You can't be serious. That's a little more hyperbole than even I can tolerate.
