Y'know I don't think I have seen any form of Inf spam (email, tell, local, broadcast, you name it) on Liberty in ages. In fact it's been so long that when I first saw this thread I thought it had to be a major necro post. Amazing they would focus so much of their business onto a single server.
-
You may be right Uberguy. I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of "end game" systems. Well, to be really honest, I despise them.
I feel it brings out the worst in people in general. I'll admit this is largely due to my experiences in a rather insanely popular MMO with a fantasy theme.
So it may be me being touchy because of that. Here's to hoping it all calms down eventually. -
Quote:While I don't always agree with everything Sam says, I will say this: I have never seen the phrase "lrn2play" or its many variations tossed around on these boards as much as I have since I19 went live. It's truly rather saddening. I always took pride in our community, but we seem to be turning into a rather less friendly version of ourselves here lately.Your position is increasingly one of defensiveness, and I believe you see assaults on your person instead of on your position even where they do not exist. Certainly ad homenim is a staple of internet discussion, but I think your defensive attitude is helping you see it where it was not intended. I read the same text you did, and I see "come on, inspirations are a big deal here" not "I'm assuming you're a moron and didn't even use inspirations." Sometimes, a cigar really is a cigar, and all that.

Quote:Of course they should take into account Incarnate slotting, since that's the whole point of the end game system. IO sets are tricky though. There are so many options, how do you assume anything without forcing every player to build all their characters a certain way? I would hope CoH never falls into the trap of "one right way" to build a character. Options are a good thing. They better start factoring in IO and Alpha slot bonuses for end game content. Otherwise it's just more 1-50 content which is lame.
-
The Devs have stated that IO's are and always will be optional. Unless they amend that statement with regards to the Incarnate system, I doubt very seriously you'll ever see NPC's that assume heavy IO slotting.

I'm having this problem on my Ice Dominator. Everything seemed to be working fine at first. I'm only two tips away from being able to do the Morality mission and become a hero, and the tip drops just stopped cold. It was really odd. I went from getting one tip every radio mission to absolutely nothing over the course of 2 hours. I even zoned back to the Rogue Isles and checked, but he has no villain tips that could be screwing up the count.
I'm hoping that since the bug seems so intermittent I'll be able to finish side switching him soon. Push comes to shove I can always have a friend run with me for his hero tips I guess. It's just kind of annoying. -
Quote:Thank you.
Overall I like the build.
Quote:Taking hover seems odd. With just one slot and that being a defense set IO, it's not going to be useful for movement with any speed. If you're taking it as a kb resist mule, that's cool but hover is kb resist already, so seems redundant. Also, you can't activate glacier while flying iirc.
Quote:Your AA slotting is overkill on end redux I think if you're going for permadom. You'll have your end bar refilling constantly as it is, so you'd get more use if you put end/confuse IOs or a damage proc in there. Plus, you could also get Cardiac alpha slotting and gain free end redux in that tree.
Thanks for the advice. You gave me some things to think about which hadn't occurred to me, which is what I was hoping for. -
So I decided to dust off my very first Dom ever, my Ice/Ice. I redid his build completely for I-19 and was hoping for some feedback. Below is the build, I'd appreciate any pointers on anything I might have overlooked. (Note: I know some of the sets/procs I have are expensive, but I already have several of them.)

I actually got told that Doms are "too weak" the other day in game. I laughed. I have one of every Dom primary except Fire, and multiples of a couple of them. Weak my rear end. Doms are one of the most powerful AT's in the game. I've pulled things off on my Doms that would make a Brute turn and run the other way.

Tenzhi, if you happen to be on the Liberty server, send me a PM. I'll be glad to help you with the Ramiel Arc on either a Tanker or Dom. Both are IO'd to hell and back and with the two of us it shouldn't be a problem. I usually log in between 7:30 pm and 8:00 pm CST.

I helped a Inv/SS Tanker with Trapdoor last night. When I arrived in the mission there were about half a dozen or so clones standing around. We went around the room 2-shotting them then went after Trapdoor.
He bifurcated once while we were attacking him. We ignored it and continued pounding. Trapdoor was defeated moments later. My impression from the Tanker was that he had been working on Trapdoor for quite a while by himself before I came in.
Sounds to me like his regen rate from the clones is hell if you're alone, but add even one person and it's not a problem. Sadly I've already completed the Ramiel arc on all my 50's. I'd love to see just how tough Trapdoor has become for the soloist. -
Quote:Careful, you're questioning the importance of Hero Crack. That kind of thing can lead to all sorts of ugliness.I'm pretty bad about giving out SB..on my fire/kin corr, but i spam transference whenever possible, so people constantly have full end.. and FS is active, so they have capped damage.. (which means, you need less attacks to defeat mobs)
Does that work? -
I think it's because almost all the TF's lately have been Co-Op or level cap TF's. Since there is no Co-Op zone before 35, they haven't stuck in a Red Side TF in that range. Maybe if they really do expand on Praetoria villain players will have a TF they can run in that range. It would certainly be nice.

I have a one hour commute home from work each day, which gives me lots of time to think. This random thought popped into my head tonight: almost every time the Devs have added new arcs/content recently, it's been in the 20-30 range. The result has been a huge number of options for characters in this range on Blueside. Let's just take a look at what your options are when you ding 20 hero side:
1) Talos original content
2) IP original content
3) Faultline
4) Mercedes Sheldon (3 arcs)
5) 2 Clone Arcs
6) Roy Cooling
7) Striga Isle
8) Croatoa (25-30)
It's extremely easy to go 20-30 and never touch one of the game's original story arcs. You can limit yourself to just things that were added later and cover that level range with no issues at all. In fact, the last few times I've done it I've found myself out leveling contacts I had originally intended on doing.
This focus on adding content in the 20-30 range has resulted in a very noticeable drop in your options when you hit 30. At that point you can go to Brickstown or Founders and do contacts that have been in the game since launch. And that's pretty much it. It picks back up again at 35 (sort of) with access to Cimerora and the RWZ, but I have found those arcs get exhausted very fast and you are left going back to.......Founders and Bricks.
I suppose the Devs have done some sort of data mining that shows adding arcs in that 20-30 range is a bit of a sweet spot in terms of character accessibility or they wouldn't keep doing it. And let's face it, Red Side could sure use some help in that department. I used to like Sharkhead Isle, but now I've done it so much I can't stand the place.
I think for myself this drop off in options at 30 has resulted in a lot of characters getting stalled out. I hit 30 and just sort of lose interest because I've done all that stuff so much. Lately I've been switching over to doing tips at 30 and that seems to help immensely since those missions are by and large so well done. Still, it would seem to me that adding some new arcs in the 30-35 (or maybe even 30-40) range would be a very welcome addition to the game.
Thoughts? Comments? -
Thanks for the replies folks. My KM/Elec scrapper hit 18 last night. I'm loving him so far. My only real complaint is it's a little End heavy at low levels, but I know what's coming so no big deal. My first 50 hero was an Ice/Ice Tanker, so I'm all too familiar with the "drain and go" style of play.
-
Flarstux, you just completely shattered my Sarcasm Meter. I think there are pieces of it stuck in the ceiling. Good one.
-
Shield Defense. The way some people go on about it you'd think all the other armor sets ceased to exist the day Shields got added to the game.
-
So I couldn't sleep and decided to give a go at a build for the character. I'm aware that I have some fairly expensive things in there, but I'm extremely patient (Alignment Merits are awesome for uber builds imho). However I admit I haven't played Scrappers very much, so I may have made a mistake or two (or three or four
). What do you guys think? I focused on Smashing/Lethal and Melee defense where possible, and if that wasn't feasible for a power I went for Max Health and Regeneration.

Quote:I think it must be the absolute fit they throw when you defeat them that amuses me the most. I got that emote on my latest Praetorian the other day and I just can't stop using it.Ghouls. I love the ghouls. Can't explain it really, but I get giggly when I fight them.

Thanks for the info guys. I've been meaning to give Electric Armor a try for a while now and when a friend suggested I make a scrapper to level pact with a character idea of his, I thought why not? We hit 12 tonight and so far I really like the set.
You've all given me some good pointers on it and things to look for while I work up a build. Much appreciated. -
I rarely see anyone mention Electric Armor on the Scrapper boards. The set can't be THAT bad. Just looking at the numbers in Mids it looks no worse off than /Fire in terms of survivability. It has a self heal (granted on a long-ish recharge), an End refill, no status hole, and no real hole in terms of mitigation (ok negative energy is a little low, but there is at least some resistance there).
So what gives? Why is it so unpopular? -
I have a Spines/Willpower and a Spines/Fire. I like them both. The /WP has more survivability and far less End problems obviously, but the /Fire often makes me wonder "hey! where did all the mobs go?" And /Fire makes for a good way to work on debt badges.

My favorites:
1) Tsoo (neat costumes, powers, and story)
2) Freakshow (I love cyberpunk, wish there was more like them)
3) Circle of Thorns (call me crazy, but I like 'em)
My least favorites:
1) Longbow (seriously, I want my heroes to be able to attack them too)
2) Nemesis (they're just so very annoying)
3) PPD (for one reason only: glue grenades. oh how I hate PPD equalizers)
