How about this card: Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4650 It's recommended for CoH on Yougamers.com

    [/ QUOTE ]

it is pce-ex and since you have a Gforce MX4 card you have an AGP slot so it will not work

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Also, don't buy Open Box.
Someone else had their grubby hands all over it.
And who knows what they may have done to it before you got it. For all you know they rubbed it all over a mexican pig then sent it back.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If rubbing it on a pig was all they did to it, you should count yourself lucky.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Some people would pay extra for that kind of action.

AGP, the Ex-Girlfriend that still thinks there is a chance you'll get back together. Even though you've fallen in love with PCI-Express. It's still around, but you kinda wish it wasn't, but at least it makes your present one look so much better by comparision.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    LOL

Let's hear it for obsolescence! It's too bad really- there are still a lot of people out there with perfectly... well, ok, more or less functional AGP machines, but the manufacturers are making fewer and fewer AGP card options.

Alas poor AGP, I knew him, Horatio. A fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy.

    Yeeeeah. Nvidia Geforce 4 MX?
After the Graphics update a few issues ago, that card JUST BARELY meets minimum requirements. In fact, I think they may have even removed it from thier list of compatible hardware.

I'm guessing you have an AGP system (since I've never heard of a 4 MX in PCI-Express) I suggest an upgrade. go here and pick out a graphics card. EVEN THE LOWEST PRICED one in that list is better than the 4 MX.
Of course, this one is probably the best bang for the buck and it will even fit if you have a low profile case.

Trust me, skip a night or 2 of take-out or pizza for dinner and use that money to get a graphics card. You won't regret it!

    [/ QUOTE ]

BA speaks truth, and tells you the things that the NC Soft tech Support people won't.

One other minor note- carefully read the box on the new card you buy for the minimum system requirements. Specifically, look at the power supply requirements. Many newer cards require beefier PSUs than what probably came stock in your PC.

After hours and hours of playing for days, and I hadn't left the AE building. I felt like I was spending too much time on the computer and needed some fresh air. So I went out side...in game. Yes, to get some fresh air I left the AE building.

    I think that's a pretty bad sign.

BTW- my license plate says COTFSM, but it has nothing to do with COH.

It isn't often that players create something truly plaque-worthy, but a five-year player-created event should qualify.

After skipping Tar Patch, Pet. Gaze, and Fearsome Stare, I'm not all that surprised it was difficult to solo before the pet. I understand you were going for concept, but things are bound to be tougher going when you skip most of the utility powers that keep mobs under control, and more importantly not attacking you.
  13. I liked the music AND the video- well done Ash!
  14. Ladies and gentlemen, er, we've just lost the picture, but, uh, what we've seen speaks for itself. The CoX Franchise has been taken over -- "conquered", if you will -- by a master race of giant space ants. It's difficult to tell from this vantage point whether they will consume the captive development team or merely enslave them. One thing is for certain, there is no stopping them; the ants will soon be here.

And I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords. I'd like to remind them that as a trusted Supergroup Leader , I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves.
  15. May I be the first to say "DOOOOOOOOMMM!!!11!!1!"

j/k. I hope it will still be the same great game we love. Just don't start making sweeping changes for the sake of change itself.

I don't really like the debt wipe. I've had so many characters hiit debt caps at so many different levels, and always manage to pay it off eventually. Just that much closer to my debt badges. They're stealing my hard-earned debt!

Extra prestige is nice, although it kinda feels like a new step parent... they want to give us some candy to win us over quick.
  16. Level 6 is too low. Level 14, when you get your travel power, is a more reasonable test of whether someone was serious about a charater. Level 6 you can get in less than 2 hours on a good sewer team.

But- some name change system is better than none. Kudos for re-implementing a long awaited and much requested feature.

No offense intended, Mr. Castle Sir, but...

... are you suggesting that Hami evolved by natural selection? Or adapted within a single generation, mutating himself to be a more effective challenge in a hero/predator infested world? That's a little implausible, but I guess not much more so than the idea of a giant one-celled organism that shoots blasts of electrolytes at people.

I sneak silently into the forums like a ghost on rollerblades. The forumites post here and there, unaware of my presence, unaware of the confusion I sow. Many people read the forums every day, hoping for some crumb of wisdom to drop from the lips of the forum cartel. They hope to find answers to their questions. They are confused, and I feed off confusion- that's why I love it here.

I find a topic where some n00b has asked which is better for PvP, Sonic or Dark defenders. Ha! Ha ha! I grin to myself, this will be easy pickings. I dust off my keyboard... I start to post.

Words pour out like melted butter over a tall stack of fresh pancakes. I write a detailed argument why empath defenders don't like to be called healers, then proceed to disect the differences between the human-only and tri-form kheld builds. My post has nothing to do with the original poster's question. Ha! I reread my post and add a few spelling and grammar errors to throw the forumistas off my trail. I throw in some leetspeak so people know I'm down with the street, as it were. I replace my Es with 3s. I feel so powerful. As coup de grace, I end it with a Chuck Norris joke and change the Subject Header.

I hit "save." I grin. I wait like a tiger stalking prey through an African jungle.

I don't have to wait long- in five minutes I have two replies objecting to my objections about healers, and one more asking whether I was talking about PBs or WSs. Ha! The original poster has been ignored! He shall remain confused this day, and his question shall go unanswered! I feed off confusion, chaos is my puppy. That's why I love it here.

    I am confusion.

I am all for the Big Red Ball. Was playing COV last night, over at the broker near the arena fish hang on hooks. I bumped into one and it fell off. I started kicking it around for the heck of it. Another player came along and we starting fighting for control of this thing. It lasted about 15min. I think the ball would be a lot more fun then the dead fish.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is one of the funniest posts I've seen in a long time. The mental picture of two supervillains fighting for control of a dead fish to kick around is priceless.

So I say- if the devs won't give us a big red ball, can we have dead fish in all zones? I want a big dead fish! -YAY-
  21. Great guide- many things I wish I had known way back when! (And lessons learned painfully with a boulder to the back of the head!)

    One minor nitpick:
    [ QUOTE ]
Swift and hurdle (fitness) can help in getting over obstacles and getting out of aggro range faster. Pick which one will compliment your playing style. Also, if you plan on taking super speed in the future, swift is a good choice. Take hurdle for super jump.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you plan on getting SuperSpeed, Swift may be somewhat redundant since the tiny boost Swift gives you will be totally drowned out by the speed of SS. Also, many people take Hurdle with SS to compensate for the lack of vertical mobility in SS. Hurdle can also be useful with SJ, since Hurdle+CJ can be a pseudo travel power on its own- and unsuppressable!

Regardless, Swift or Hurdle are usually only taken as stepping stones to the Health/Stamina powers. Neither is particularly powerful, but both can be fun- and both will help you get around the Hollows just that little bit easier. Take whatever fits your character concept unless you are going for the Hurdle+CJ lvl8 travel.

And I also agree with the above poster- on my last couple of toons I completely skipped the hollows content and never missed it. Independent of travel problems and 1.5-mile death runs, there's just something about Hollows PUGs that results in a lot of debt and/or frustration.

    The DM/DA Bible

I said that I would report back here after trying out the ol' Scary Scraptroller build, and update everyone with my results. To recap- the idea was to take ToF and CoF, and also Intimidate and Invoke Panic from the Presence pool to have theoretically quad-stackable fear, and the ability to immediately lock down every mob in a spawn. As one teammate called me, a walking boogeyman.

My Scary DM/DA is now level 49, and I'll be pushing him to 50 over the next week or so, so I have spent enough time with the concept to have a pretty good feel for it. My expereince with the Scary Scraptroller build can be mostly summed up in one word- overkill. (Exactly as The Gamemaster said it would be three months ago, but did I listen? No!)

A well slotted CoF will lockdown every minion in a spawn pretty reliably. ToF+CoF will lock down any lt. or boss except a few of the rare fear-resistant mobs (Nemesis). Even then, CoF+ToF+ToF can cower a Fake Neme or Warhulk! I also found that multiple applications of ToF can sometimes cower Elite Bosses, and even when not cowered the -Acc effect is noticible and helps my survivability. In, short I came to love fear, and got very used to micromanaging targets to keep my victims... err... targets in a state of terror.

However, I found that I only RARELY needed the Presence Pool Intimidate to Fear from range- the only mob I used it on routinely was the Malta Sapper just to make sure he was good and scared before I closed to melee range. Invoke panic was just unnecessary- by the time I got it into my build I had gotten so used to micromanaging and applying CoF and ToF that I never really needed another AoE fear to lay on top of it. In addition, the fear magnitudes stack, but the durations don't (durations run concurrently)- so my bread and butter fears seemed more reliable for most situations. Also- the presence pool fears do NOT have the -Acc component of the DM/DA fears, and so were less useful, and less used. The concept can work, but in 95% of fights, the extra pool fears were just plain unnecessary. (But I am now thinking of ways I might squeeze soem fears into my Regen's build... )

The other downside to this build was the painful sacrifices I had to make to fit the three presence pool powers into the build. I wasn't too terribly tight on slots, and was pretty happy with the way things got slotted out- but the power choices got very tight. For starters- I'm a level 49 DM/DA with NO KNOCKBACK protection. No Acro, no hover, nada. Am I crazy? Have I gone mad? Well, probably- but in truth I have survived fairly well without it. KB/KD is annoying- very annoying at times- but it is rarely deadly and there have only been a handfull of times (2 that I can recall) when I was chain-KB'd to death- once by Striga Wolves and the other by Sewer Ritki. There was also at least one occasion when I got knocked off a balcony into the 2nd spawn waiting below- with predictably ugly, messy and painful results. Otherwise it was always get up, dust off, and go back to the fight. Yeah, when I respec I'm going to fit Acro into the build, but I am proof that it is possible to live without it... it is just a pain in the hindquarters sometimes. (I could have taken Acro instead of hasten, and I had originally intended to do so. But the build without hasten was just too slow for my tastes and I needed the attack slots for endred more than for recharge.)

I also have no death shroud and no OG- as those would have impacted the fears I was laying down, and there was just no way to fit them into the build.

All in all, it was an interesting experiment, and was fun to play. But as fun as it was, I'm going to respec into a more "conventional" DM/DA build soon. I plan to keep my DM/DA fears because I have grown so accustomed to using them, and I still want fear as part of his character concept. But I am really looking forward to some KB/KD protection and in the RV PvP environment, Acro will be more necessary than it was for PvE. I'm also going to pick up either OG/DS or maybe both- both have excellent reputations.

Sorry for the long rambling post. If, after reading this, anyone is still considering the old Scary Scraptoller build, good luck to you. Despite all the drawbacks I really did have some good fun with the toon. (Making the Envoy of Shadows cower in terror: Priceless!) And playing a non-minmax toon to 50 (or 49) is a fun challenge in itself, and it taught me a lot about the DM/DA set and how to get good use out of the Swiss Army Knife of scrappers. But I also know that he will be a lot more powerful and deadly after the respec.
