My question...
There seems to be a TON of confusion among rank and file players about when and where Cimerora is. I think we could REALLY use some clarification here
MY personal best guess was that it was somewhere on the boot of Italy near Greece. I'm basing that partially on some of the Cimeroran's carrying Spartan style shields. I thought I saw something in one of the two Origin of Power arcs that said it was 5000 years in the past or so. That made sense to me since my understanding of the whole "Well of Furies' thing was that the ancient Greek gods had locked away magic and all other powers until States & Recluse found the Well. The Greek civilization predating the ROman one by quite a bit, I'm reading in some there also to go with at least a few thousand years BC.
One of my SG leaders thinks it was in the first century AD. That's well past the age of ancient heroes that ended when the gods locked away all that potential in us mere mortals though -
Wow, bigger difference than I thought. Gotta learn to read the power descriptions a bit better and get better with Mids. lol
-
OK, just looking for some opinions here...
I'm weighing options on my shield scrapper; Phalanx Fighting & Grant Cover vs Maneuvers & Assault.
I know if you do a quick look at the numbers, Phalanx Fighting has better numbers. BUT, if I was reading right, it also only protects you against 3 attackers and at a closer range. I forgot the numbers on Grant Cover.
Anyhoo, I'm thinking that Maneuvers (despite the lower numbers), might be a better overall deal, esp if properly slotted, and then I can add in Assault and give the team a damage boost as well.
Any opinions? -
Quick simple question here since I don't have a second rig. What's it take to run two instances of CoX on one computer?
My assumption is a higher end PC, and that you have to have the game installed twice, like with setting up training server access. -
This is a general question so I'm throwing it out here. Granted this isn't much of an issue for scrappers, tanks & brutes, but some other classes...
I'm my case, my PB has alot of trouble here & so do a couple of my defenders and trollers. ITFs and Rikti MSRs in particular are ugly. To get to the point however, I'm looking for procs or sets that are going to help here; general options that will work for most toons.
The Aegis set has the +Mez resist enhancement for example. I've never been quite clear on all that falls into that category however. Sleeps I know for certain do.
Anyway I don't want to ramble on speculation there, it'd be guessing and sidetrack my question. I just need some protection so my Kin isn't spending the entire MSR perma-stunned by some stinking Rikti Magus. -
I found this one again while just browsing the forum and figured I'd give everyone that helped an update.
My humanform only PB is 41 now, and I'm loving her. I've had blappers down for a while now, so once you all told me to plan my build that way, the light went on upstairs for a change, lol.
I'm going to look into implementing LordXenite's suggestions. Even with non voids that will help alot. The thing that's honestly been a HUGE help to me was just getting a single KB protection proc. With a few slots into Quantum shielding and the starter resistance power, the V/Q damage is bad but not horrible. It's the constant knockdown and KB that was making it problematic to deal with them before. Now... Yeah, a pain, but not a fatal one.
The only thing that gives me real problems now are stuns, especially on an ITF. As long as I don't get stunned, I dominate. The second I get stunned though, I'm dead.
End management is an issue in extended fights too. I have all three shields and tough for a total of 4 toggles on in combat. I guess I'm going to need to pick up conserve energy. -
Having finally decided to give PBs a REAL chance myself the last month or so, I'd say Starcloud nailed it dead on. Mine is 41 now and I love her. It helps that I like the whole blapper concept and have built a couple of pretty decent blasters that way.
Shields, (and yes, grab the thermal shield last of the three), the two self heals and the PBAOE stun are all pretty much vital though, even more so when you're soloing.
That's the interesting thing for me with a Kheld also; the difference in power in a group vs solo. I'd recommend getting familiar with soloing and all sizes of teams so you get used to the variation there. On an 8 man team that sticks close together, you'll feel like a god. Soloing feels pretty weak by comparison. Not Defender level DPS, but...
Another life saver is getting a KB protection proc. I played hell with void hunters and quantum gunners until I did. All of the sudden I could handle the damage (if shielded) long enough to wipe the floor with most of them.
Now if I could figure out a way to handle the never ending stuns from some mobs... *sigh*
OK yeah, I'm covering play tactics instead of build, but Starcraft did a good job there anyway. Given my moderate level of experience with Khelds, I'll shut up now and let the serious veterans add their two cents. -
Well, that worked for a couple of characters that had the issue in the middle of their text box. The one I really wanted to work on though has the bug at the start of the text box thanks to earlier attempts to edit things. THAT didn't fix with this trick.
-
Thanks, I'll give that a try.
-
I know the devs probably consider this a minor bug and for all I know it's already been griped about. For those of us who are either roleplayers or take pride in developing a good character concept anyway, it's still annoying though.
The character description/bio window on the ID screen has a bug that won't let you clear carriage returns (hitting the Enter key for those who aren't old school). If you're typo or re-write prone this can really screw up the ability to put a ccharacter description up for your toon.
I personally have been dealing with this since the last, bigger bug for that screen was fixed. Come on guys, let;s FINALLY get this fixed right. -
Last night, running a couple of ITFs, my teams ran into a bug that took it to a whole new level; we were having our toggles shut off by the lag!
It happened primarily during the last two missions, and was ABSOLUTLE NOT simply a case of characters getting stunned and having their toggles temporarily diminished. This was outright collapses.
I kept wondering during our final fight with Rommy how a level 50 Invuln tank that took almost every power in the Invuln set and had a maxed out list of set bonuses (I looked because I couldn't believe it was happening), kept falling over and over like a prom dress with velcro fasteners.
Lag is bad enough, and it's been getting alot worse lately, but this is rediculous. -
Yeah, I looked over that guide & I have to admit there is alot of good general information there. I'm good at building blappers, so just having that concept in mind I think I'll be able to put together a solid build.
Staying humanform should keep my build focused as well as sticking to my RP concept too.
Hmmm... Negative energy huh? That would actually fit with the way my dark armor characters tend to do so well against Voids...
Thanks both of you for the help. -
Well I just got my new humanform PB to 15, so I'll have to see how she handles Voids now. At level 7 running missions in Kings Row however, dealing with Quantum Gunners (all of which kept turning out to be bosses), it reminded me of the bad old days that made me shelf kheldians for a LONG time.
I admittedly do tend to favor resistance type defenses too. I hate it when a defense based character finally has their defenses gotten through and gets splattered, lol. I'm assuming Quantum Guns fall under energy defense, not something odd like dark, right? -
Quote:I have been seeing a lot of question threads lately related to how people are finding Kheldians, especially Peacebringers frustrating and confusing.
What exactly is causing you to be confused or frustrated to the point where you delete the character?
The reason I ask is because I have never found them frustrating or confusing and it would be nice to know why people feel that way about them. I come across people in game that I assume are new to the game and don't really know about Kheldians but they always say they haev heard how they are this or that way and I end up having to explain things that counteract what they've been told.
So I ask, what causes those of you who have deleted Kheldians to do so? Is it because they are not straight forward like a Blaster, Controller, Scrapper, Tanker, etc? Is it because you are overthinking the character too much rather than just playing with them and finding your niche? Is it because you are not finding them fun and the power boring?
Please enlighten me.
I've finally got a RP concept I like so I'm hoping I can stick with my latest Peacebringer.
I haven't read the rest of the thread, but I'll answer the initial question regarding the half dozen other Khelds I've had that were either shelfed or deleted.
First, Quantum Gunners are horribly annoying and discouraging at low levels. Massive KB, Massive Damage, they always seem to be in the back of a mob. They're miserable to deal with. My highest previous Kheld was a 21 PB and even with the amount of powers at that level, Quantum Gunners were a pain. VEATs don't have to deal with "Spider Gunners" having cannons designed to take them out, and are better to solo with in my limited experience. Even in groups, VEATs help the whole team with their buffs, not just themselves.
Second I had two design issues; First was trying to figure out how to slot everything. Triforms in particular have so many extra powers begging for slots it seemed I had to either spread slots thin to the point of mininizing power effectiveness OR build a toon that had a couple of uber powers & the rest with nothing.
The long list of somewhat random primary and secondary powers made it hard to chose a good build also. There's a little bit of everything and I tended to end up with builds that were too unfocused. With all the other Archetypes, you know the couple of powers their sets have that are useless and which of the rest generally fit your personal playing style.
Third is minor but related; I HATE that Warshades can't take the flight power pool (especially since I despise the way the game handles teleportation, it's the ONLY thing Champions Online did right). Yeah I know squid form flies, but I wanted a pure humanform WS build for my last concept, one that could fly.
So yeah I'll admit it, it essentially comes down to needing to take more time to learn the builds and power sets. Warshades flow together easier than PBs for me by far, but Khelds are still overly complicated to me compared to the other Archetypes. Admittedly, I also have to have a hugely solid character concept that I'm hyped about to get into a character also (and therefore study those sets), and THAT has been hard with Khelds for me -
So I've finally got a character concept to use a PB archetype with. It's not actually a Kheldian though so my build would be humanform only. That said, here's my questions:
1) Is a humanform only PB a viable build? NOT all powerful, just viable and capable of standing out and soloing well if properly slotted.
2) What's the best guide to a pure humanform build for PBs?
3) This would probably be covered in said guide if it's top notch, BUT I'll ask here, now anyway. What do the rest of you Kheld players do to defend/resist Quantum Gunners? And I *AM* looking for more than the DUH answer of hit them first. I'm particularly interested in powers or special enhancements that would be applicable to a pure humanform PB also. -
Hmmm, somebody is lacking reading/listening skills.
All *I* was asking about is if anybody knew any tricks (ie good sets for a given defender class) that will help push the damage up and make them more effective soloing. See above post.
If you can't debate on the facts though, resort to childish name calling though I suppose, huh?
And for the record, I've been playing off and on since issue one, have a 30 month veteran badge coming in a few days, and have learned from some of the best players in the game on MOST Arches. While none of my toons have any purple sets yet due to altitius and liking to explore tons of different power set combinations, I'd wager I'm better than 75 to 80% of the players out there. -
Quote:Exactly why I asked this question.Last time you checked, you must have been playing a different game. Archetypes in this game do a bit of both, including tanks, defenders, and controllers.
Granted alot of classes have gone through some serious nerfs/mods. HOWEVER, Dark/Dark and Rad/Rad Defenders both USED TO be known as AV killers. I'm not sure if that's changed due to nerfs OR them simply no longer being the "flavor of the month" like Kins are now. I *do* know Sentinel of Twilight on the Virtue server however and she can solo anything this side of Reichsman in the game. Of course, she's a walking purple proc too, lol.
So yes, contrary to the one infantile and ignorant negative reputation feedback that was left on my initial post, some classes can multitask.
I was simply looking for general ideas to get my damage a bit closer to a Blaster's or Corr's so I can solo a bit easier. Other than the obvious stuff like 6 slotting every attack power, lol. There is Twi's route, but I'd like to be more effective soloing without spending multiple billions of influence on my build. Guess I'll have to find some sets with decent damage bonuses, rely on Assault and buffs/debuffs.
As far as enjoying the class, I actually do quite a bit. My Defenders are world class support toons also. Kinetic Chill and my Corruptor Kinetic Nightmare in particular had outstanding reps when I'd bother to farm with them.
It's just nice to be able to solo at times without having it take forever to clear the map. -
OK, I saw a couple of semi-related threads, but I figured I'd throw out a more general question on tips for defender damage.
I can build incredibly powerful support defenders, but DPS always seems anemic on all my defender toons. My 50 Kinetic/Ice defender can literally solo tank Jurrasik indefinitely (went at him for a half hour once just for fun), but even throwing FS and Siphon Power constantly, I can't even scratch him. Even soloing a Red con Boss seems agonizingly slow compared to other Archetypes.
My 40 Rad/Rad (since she was never a farm toon) doesn't have near the Kin's survivability and seems to hit like a screaming little school girl. Granted having all 3 debuffs going helps, but, again, awful slow vs other Archs
Don't even get me started on my 25 Emp/Psi Defender, lol. -
Figured I'd ask here since I'm NOT ambitious enough to go through 51 pages of guides in that section, lol.
Is there a guide or similar post listing the different strengths and weaknesses of all the various NPC groups in the game? Something faster & more handy than going thru 1/2 of ParagonWiki to get the info. I'm looking for something to help the rest of my VG & SG out. This way I don't have tanks shield charging psychic clockwork all over the map for example lol.
If not, let's start something here. A fair number of them I think I already know:
Snakes are vulerable to cold.
Hellions are resistant to fire and vulnerable to cold.
Skuls are resistant to negative energy (dark powers)
All Clockwork types are vulnerable to KB
Normal clockwork are vulnerable to Psi
Carnies are resistant to Psi and vulnerable to Lethal
I know there's more I can think of IF I were awake still, but I'm going into sleep shutdown mode, lol -
Eh, I personally think the best duo is a good tough brute and a Kin corr.
-
Ahhhh, well the changes in color options could definitely explain the changes in the Earth Troller's powers.
Not sure how the tweaks in dark armor would change my Spines Scrapper's costume main color from midnight blue to black though, lol. Since it actually looks good, I'm not really worried about it beyond the small possibility of it happening again.
Maybe it was just a one time brainfart by the game partially connected to the change in power options. *shrug* -
Odd problem I'm having with a few of my characters since i16 came out.
A couple of my characters have had power and/or costume colors change on me.
No, this is NOT the issue we all sometimes have with SG colors popping up on a new costume till you reset the colors. A the color changes have been totally different from my SG or VG colors.
The main two examples are my Earth troller having a couple of her power colors change, and twice also, and just today I notived my Spines/Dark Scrapper's costume went from midnight blue to jet black.
Odd...
Anybody else having this problem? -
I'm running WIndows 7 final retail release, thanks to being at a college that's MS certified for teaching Info Tech.
Long story short, on my dual boot system, Windows 7 runs CoH ALMOST as well as XP Pro does. In fact thanks to using the "Rate Your Computer" benchmarking options, Windows 7 did a MUCH better job of helping CoX find optimum default settings.
MY only problem with Windows 7 vs XP Pro is that CoH doesn't seem to purge the game memory files or something (blind guess admittedly, I'm more of a hardware person than software). After anywhere form 2 to 4 hours the game wil crash from zoning and when I go to close it out with Task Manager, there's always an old screen screen/frame showing as CoX closes out. Ergo I'm assuming it's a memory clearing issue.
THAT is the ONLY problem I've had with ANY program on my system. Windows 7 actually does a much better job than XP at running that OTHER superhero game that's too much like WOW and seems to be all about ranged scrappers. Yeah I never made it past beta with CO, lol.
Anyway, if you haven't done so yet, try the "Rate Your Computer" option to benchmark your system. It'll help CoX find the dieal settings better, AND if you turn up a REALLY subpar rating on a piece of hardware, you can look at that as a potential poblem area.
There's also the option of trying to see if running CoX in Compatibility Mode will help. I haven't needed to use it for the game but it's an option
OH almost forgot since I'm sure somebody will ask... Windows 7 sort of pushes you to run the benchmarking at setup. If you already have and want to recheck things, go to Control Panel / System / Check the Windows Experience Index.
That will bring up your earlier test results, and at the bottom right of the window there's an option to re-run the test. The bottom of the window also has help links to tweak your PC's performance too. If you haven't run the benchmark yet, I'm assuming the option is going to be found in a similar spot. There's always Windows Search if you can't find it any other way -
I meant to get back to this after getting distracted by drama elsewhere, lol.
ANYHOO, that was sort my intent to leave the readers wondering about. Truthfully though, I modelled the whole interview after the ones we see on cable news nowadays where people ofthe same political ideology get softball questions thrown at them all day and there's never a meaningful challenge to anything they say.
Not a political rant here either. CNN & MSNBC (for starters) do it with Dems, and Fox and a few others do it with Repubs, so there's plenty of blame to spread around on all sides.
My original idea for Major Arachnos going from stalker type villain to Arachnos spinmeister came after watching terrorist groups in the Middle East do/say the same kind of things we see above, and have so many people buy it. I thought about it for two seconds and said "Why wouldn't Recluse use such an obvious and successful tactic too?" -
Quote:I wish that were true. With a good meleer on your team, aggro shouldn't be an issue from any power.
I have a friend that plays a plant troller who has the same complaints. She can peel aggro off of most tanks with little problem.
Granted a BIG part of my own problem was not paying attention to Volcanic Gases & how it worked. Huge noob error there.
Otherwise I think I play fairly smart though. I lead in with Earthquake (when it's up), then throw Quicksand, then Stalagmites. Stone Cages only got thrown in AFTER Earthquake went down completely or right after Quicksand otherwise. AFTER Stalagmites, I throw Melt Armor and Heat Exhaustion
Between the way mobs tend to break and run so quick lately, and my playing on teams that tend to be AOE heavy, my Troller tends to be in constant lock em down mode though, generating a good bit of aggro. Again though, Volcanic Gases should do a ton to fix that.
