Quote:I was at the SDCC CoH Panel and all they said was travel power at level 4, 5th power for each travel pool. Nothing about any changes to the other power pools. Also, anything in the beta is subject to change. That's why I didn't become attached to anything I saw while playing the beta there. That's been changed then? Because I was told differently at the SDCC.
Edit: Well, I was told that it was working as intended during the beta that the third tier powers were available at level four. I'm aware that it was just something that they were trying at the time, not something that they were promising with Issue 21. -
Quote:Actually it was CoH DVD, and even that wasn't quite true. They never said that it "would never be available any other way". What Positron said was that they would not give away anything that players spent money on.
Note that this was before NCsoft bought out Cryptic (the maker's of that promise), and that Positron is not in charge of Marketing. He is also not the Producer of the game. Paragon Studios is (subject to NCsoft's whim) in charge now, the exclusive period is over for every other DVD/Collector's bonus (even the EB GR-preorder enhancements are going to be available), so it is high time the CoH (VIP badge, Cape of the Four Winds, Prestige Power Slide) and CoV (Arachnos Chest Symbol and Cape) bonus items be made available.
And I can say that with impunity, as I have them both.Quote:Yep that page needs to be fixed. But remember there was a time long ago when the Devs made a "promise" there would never be a way to get the preorder Prestige Sprints, CoV Helmets and so on either. Frankly (as Snow Globe has implied) I'd consider it shortsighted to think they might choose to leave ANYTHING off the Paragon Market table. *shrugs*
Now there's not really much that I, or anyone else outside for Paragon Studios, can do if they really want to put the Collectors Edition stuff in the Paragon Marketplace. I would just be very disappointed that they went back on their word about that stuff being exclusive to limited editions of the game. -
Quote:I guess someone needs to fix that page:IIRC (and according to Paragonwiki) there were no exclusive in-game items related to the CoV Collectors edition. The only exclusive items related to that were the physical items in the box. Regardless I've never heard of them planning to single out CoV items versus any other expansion for this game.
The Paragon Points system will provide a new opportunity for people to buy in-game items that people originally had to pay for anyway (like the items from the Good vs Evil Edition) so I see no good reason why the Devs would avoid offering any/all of these things.

http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Unlock...rachnos_Symbol
Those two pieces are ONLY available with a code from from the CoV Collectors Edition. And when the devs said they wouldn't make those pieces available any other way it wasn't an off hand comment, it was a promise. -
The devs stated that the bonus stuff from the CoV Collectors Edition would only be available if you purchased that particular edition of the game. It would never be available any other way. Copies are listed as being available on EBay and Amazon so that's going to be the only way to get them.

Quote:The problem was that I couldn't find any instructions on how to set it up for the test (and later beta) server. Other than that it worked just fine.I've read where this launcher wasn't very good a long time ago and that very well may have been the case. But when I started using it a few months ago I could easily access the Live, Test and Beta servers without any difficulty. It updates these clients much better than the old CoH updater ever did. It has basically been nothing but an improvement over what I was using before.
Quote:That's great for you and me. But I'm sure the player who starts playing this game say a year from now will appreciate being able to get access to an aura that otherwise would have been pointlessly impossible for them to enjoy otherwise.
Now I believe the devs stated that the bonus stuff from the CoV Collectors Edition will never be available to purchase, unless you some how find a copy where the serial number hasn't been used yet. But I don't think they ever made a statement like that about other edition upgrades (like the CoH DVD upgrade). So Power Slide and the V.I.P. badge might eventually become available for purchase. -
Quote:I had installed the launcher years ago because of some beta for one of NCSofts other games. You could launch CoH through it, but i couldn't figure out how to launch the CoH test server so i never used it. Besides I had a shortcut that would bypass the updater so I could play the game if the update server was acting up (assuming my client was up to date). The irony here is that the new launcher is clearly better than the old one regardless. That was the only "enticement" I needed to switch to it many months ago.
I suppose when this aura appears in the Paragon Points store there will be people who'll complain that their once "exclusive" aura has been cheapened the same way just about every other exclusive item in this game has been already. People will complain about anything really. *shrugs*
And I don't care if you will be able to buy this aura later. Those are points I'll be able to spend on something else. -
It teaches people to not drag their feet about adapting to changes in the game. Adapt early you get rewarded. Wait until you have to, no reward.
So anyone who want's to complain about not getting the aura because they waited to long can bite my shiny metal.... well you know. -
Quote:I think who people are putting down are those players who are screaming that they need 200 character slots and the ability to move all their SG's over to the VIP server. I can understand if you have a lone 50 on a low pop server and want to transfer him/her over. But it's the people who want to move EVERYTHING to the VIP server that are making themselves such easy targets for the less DOOM and gloom crowd.I'm amused by the people putting down those who want to move to the VIP server. A lot of them seem to be looking down their noses at them while patting themselves on the back for being so enlightened as to willingly rub shoulders with the common man, while using the word "snobs" to describe those moving to the VIP server. To me this smacks of the most delicious irony.

Quote:This is literally the only reason I would support powerset respecs. Being able to keep badges that a new character would be locked out of. The anniversary badges should have been account wide badges. This is one of the reasons I wish anniversary badges were universally unlocked. I have toons that I would just hate to lose the badge on but I just don't want to play with the powersets they have.
But if you really want to build a new version of a character on a specific server without losing all the work you put into the old one I have two suggestions.
1. Buy a rename token and make the old character a whole new person. Then you can create your new version with the old name.
2. Use the VIP transfer to move the old character to another server. Create new version of the old character. Then when you transfer him back you get a free name change since you already have that name taken.
Neither is perfect, but it's probably the best we can expect for a while. -
Quote:At SDCC 2010, the 4 Day + Preview Night passes for 2011 sold out on Sunday around noon at the con. I happened to buy mine just a couple of hours before they ran out. This year I'm buying mine for 2012 as soon as they make them available. Considering that you can get a full refund if you cancel before mid June, if you think you might be able to go you should grab a ticket if possible.Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't SD ComiCon been sold out for months now? I'm glad you guys will be there again, but at this point you're only informing those that managed to get their hands on a pass before they were gone. I just checked the site and all 4 Day and single day passes are sold out.

In females, the 'Classic Steampunk Tights Pattern' isn't available to wear with Skirts/Shorts. Can't for the life of my figure out how that got missed.

Quote:Except that I haven't relied on shards or the alpha components since I20 came out. If I actually had one I'd just convert it to shards which would be more useful. Especially considering how many commons you need to make just one tier 4.This is a rip off. Better than it used to be, but still a rip off.
Notice of the Well (tier 3 component) effectively downgrades to 2 common components.
Favor of the Well (tier 4 component) loses 12 shards in the process and downgrades to either 5 common components or 2 common components + 1 uncommon component. -
Quote:Pricing anything at the auction house for 1 inf is asking to lose money. Because if it does get bought for 1 inf, then you lose money because you had to pay 5 inf to post it. I've had it happen to me. I find it better to put the minimum a little above what the vendors will pay because there will always be rich and impatient characters who will pay more to get it now. It's also worth checking on uncommon and rare salvage to see what it's going for and if there are people bidding on it. Some IO's are better to have at a lower level so you don't lose its bonus if you exemp down. Also, some costume and temp power recipes will need lower level uncommon and rare salvage which can keep the price high.If you sell all of your level 4 to 19 common salvage on the auction house, priced at 1 inf minimum bid, and vendor the level 4 to 19 uncommon and rare, you'll never lack for enough inf to buy store-bought enhancements. High level players, grinding crafted enhancements to earn badges, pay way more for that salvage than it's worth, to you, to use it to craft things you'll use. Craft on-the-fly, while very low level, and you'll constantly be out of inf until you're well into your 30s. Ditto if you vendor everything. Other than accepting a donation from a higher-level friend, the single most reliable way to afford to fully-enhance your character is to use the auction house to vend low-level common salvage.
Also, sell or auction all level 10 common IO recipes. Don't waste your salvage and inf crafting them. Wait till level 12 and craft lvl 15 IO's if you can since they are about the same as dual-origin enhancements and you don't have to worry about outleveling them for a while. I'd wait to to the crafting tutorial till level 12 so you can get a free lvl 15 IO out of it. -

Quote:If you had actually read what I wrote, you would see that I didn't miss my flight, but missed Preview Night. And it is a perfect analogy. By picking the wrong flight I was delayed in getting to San Diego. By picking the wrong salvage you could be delayed in crafting a power you wanted. So by simply clicking the wrong selection causes the person some sort of delay.Truly, you have a dizzying capacity to proclaim the irrelevant. I'm sorry that you missed your flight, but frankly, your story doesn't even rate as a decent analogy. You're comparing a functionally meaningless choice in a game to a reservation you made with a real-life service. Honestly, I get a little tired of people dog-piling on how everything in their life should be perfect, irrespective of the effort, skill, or inconvenience that goes into providing the various, often-times freaking miraculous services in question.
But since you obviously don't plan on actually fully reading and comprehending what people are saying, I'm just going to leave you to your stubbornness and constant whining about a system that plenty of people have learned how to make work for them. -
Quote:I have no problems with it's design. The only problems I had with it was figuring out where everything was the first time I opened the Incarnate window. And ... you prove that you're only interested in talking about how well you deal with the Incarnate crafting system, rather than talking about whether it's well designed. You get an A for extraordinary unresponsiveness.
And if you find the whole thing too complicated than maybe your approach to using it is flawed. I originally tried making lists and doing it the same way you did, but found that by focusing on a single power I never used the lists I had carefully constructed. If more random drops occurred then maybe keeping track of what you need beyond the next upgrade or two would be helpful. But since you get to chose or craft practically every piece of salvage you need, if you only worry about one or two upgrades there's a whole lot less to keep track of and less chance of choosing the wrong piece. -
Quote:My comment there was a side discussion that had developed and had nothing to do with the reward-selection screenWe're not discussing the randomness of component drops. We're discussing the gratuitous penalties for making what amounts to an accounting error on the reward-selection screen.
Quote:Do you really feel like keeping track of all the functionally redundant components is, in Uber's words, "a 'challenge' that [players] need to overcome through proper planning, and therefore 'win' by choosing the right thing the first time?" How is the already grindy gameplay of the Trials improved by that wrinkle?
If we both do the same trial, and both get functionally the same reward table, then what purpose does it serve to penalize me for choosing the wrong permutation of the same component? Whether I simply have a brain fart or a misclick or hell, even if I change my mind down the road, how is that penalty gameplay-relevant? Does my ability to use a pen, outside of the game make me a more deserving participant on a given Incarnate trial than the next guy who just plays it by ear?
And if you have to make a list, how long should it be? Four items long, one for each rarity level of salvage you need. And I've done back to back to back trials before and there's always been at least a few minutes between rounds because you always loose a few after each one and it takes time to fill the spots back up. More than enough time to figure out what adjustments you need to make to your list, craft new salvage from threads, and get ready for the next round.
Given how little variety of salvage there is at each level and how rarely random drops occur, it is easier to just focus on one Incarnate Power at a time, and only worry about the other powers if you get something you absolutely don't need for the power you were focusing on. And BTW, I tried your approach at first, but found out that because I was concentrating on one power at a time I rarely looked at the lists I had made anyway. -
It's not mental superiority I'm talking about, it's focus. When I go into the trial, I already know which Incarnate Power I'm looking to upgrade. That way when the reward table appears I know exactly which Incarnate Power I need to look at to know what drop to chose. Unless I get the uncommon table in which case I pull up my salvage and chose whichever uncommon salvage I have the least amount of. I only look at the other Incarnate powers if I get a drop I actually can't use on the power I was focusing on. By focusing on one power at a time, I was slotting tier 3's into each Incarnate Power when I finally got each one unlocked, and was working on tier 4's before I got all 5 opened up.

Quote:Actually chess isn't a fair game. Since black goes second their first move is always a reaction to whites first move. Therefore black always starts the game on the defensive.Life's not fair but games are supposed to be. That's why they have rules. Chess wouldn't be as fun if one player got twice as many pieces for inheriting a larger estate.
And most games have an element of luck involved. Dice to be rolled, cards to be drawn. So is it fair if one player always gets the good roles and draws the right cards every time? No it isn't. Plus experience and knowledge can mean a lot in some games. Rules != Fairness. -
So what? Life's not fair and sometimes there is a price to pay for changing your mind (just ask the airlines about that). Besides there are only 4 very rare salvages and 4 rare salvages so if you picked the wrong one or changed your mind about what upgrade you wanted to do, there's a pretty good chance you'll need it for a different power later on. Or you just drop some threads and convert it to what you need right now.
-
Quote:Personally, I think you're making it complicated for yourself. When I get the reward table I immediately pull up the incarnate window and see if I need any of that salvage for the power I was wanting to upgrade. The recipe will show you what salvage you need but don't have. And I don't even worry about the Tier 4* unless I get a Very Rare drop, or already have two Tier 3's for that power. If I don't need the salvage for that power then I'll check a second one to see if it's needed there. My average time to make my decision, 10 seconds at most.I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm saying that it's needlessly complicated. And yes, it's much, much easier to write out a list ahead of time. That in itself is a failure of the design; the fact that there's no functional purpose behind the different types of same-tier salvage other than punishing players for picking the wrong item is just insult added to injury. Or injury added to insult, however you wanna look at it.
Actually there is a functional purpose for having different types of same tier salvage. It's to keep the vast majority of the player base from complaining about yet another type of currency. Think about it, what's the functional purpose of invention salvage? Nothing. Plus, given how little salvage there is at each level there is rarely a wrong choice. You'll probably need it for another power later on.
* To create a Tier 4 you need 2 Common salvage, 1 Very Rare salvage, and any 2 Tier 3's from that tree. As long as you're happy with your first Tier 3, exactly what the 2nd one is isn't very important. You just need to build it. -
Quote:You do realize that under rare circumstances you can get a random incarnate salvage drop? Plus what if you took a rare or very rare drop, but before you used it you changed your mind about the upgrade you were going to do and decided to do a different one which required a different piece of r/vr salvage. The side conversion was, I thought, supposed to be a solution to the obviously gratuitous penalty for selecting the wrong item, in a crafting system wherein different components of the same tier have no functional difference. Players are basically forced to write out an exhaustive list of all the components they need before they run trials, or else risk wasting their time for no good reason. The flavor text cart is pulling the gameplay horse.
Quote:I don't write down what I need. I wait till it's offered and then bring up the create screen to see what I need to pick.
You don't have to write down a list since your character carries it on them at all times. All you have to do is bind a key to bring up the incarnate screen and choose what you want to do first.
I keep mine in the same power bar as my incarnate powers.
My real gripe about Incarnate salvage was ending up with so many uncommon pieces and they really aren't needed all that much compared to common. To get a tier 4 you need a total of 1 Very Rare, 2 Rare, 2 Uncommon, and 16 Common. At least now getting an Uncommon isn't too bad since you can convert it to Common which you probably need more. -
Oh hell no. I've started every hero of mine for the last 6 years in Galaxy City because it's quieter. And I generally try to avoid Atlas Park whenever possible. Just too much useless chatter in there.
