Funcom/EA was banking on raking in money ASAP on an undermarketed game exploring new frontiers in MMO gaming. Its going to take time to get its feet steady, so I'm not sure what the heck their strategic thinking was. Oh right, EA. Hopefully Guild Wars 2 will show that there's still a valid MMO market stateside.
  3. ... but doesn't Sony already have a super hero MMO?

Then again, I'd be totes down with City of DC Heroes.
  4. Zwill said Freedom was a success, and I'll stand by his judgement.
  5. You gave us a world where we could fly. I can't thank you enough for that.

However high or low that profit margin was, it was still profit, and now that profit is gone.
Yes, but look at the money they no longer have to spend on Paragon or either of Paragon's projects. Money that no longer has to be budgeted and can be re-allocated elsewhere, like say bailing out their flailing non-Lineage Asian grindfests.

I'm just hoping Carbine isn't next. And that Arenanet has an escape plan.
  8. If the lease on the engine was the issue, then why shut down the whole studio that's also working on a second different project?
  9. ChernobylCheerleader - 50+1 Rad/Rad Defender - The first character I really grokked with, my first to 50.

T-34 - 50+1 Elec/TW Tanker - My first tank to 50 and he was just hitting his stride...

Dyre Woof - 29 TW/WP Brute - I wish I had rolled him earlier, the world needs more big dumb brutes.

Flamethrower Ferret - 24 Fire/Fire Dom - Originally a blaster that I got to 50, got disillusioned with, and then re-rolled. With i24 coming I had kinda regretted nuking his first incarnation, but now... yeah.

    But most of all:

Night Widow Ricki - 50+3 Night Widow - My first real main, my first real RP alt, and the one that got me in with the crazy kids in the Entropy Legion.

Tide Shifter - 50 DP/Kin Corruptor - And to think I finally got into regularly RPing with him and with all the stories he and the Hyperion Force have fallen into too.

Opposite Reaction - 50+3 StJ/SD Scrapper - Isabella had many iterations before I finally settled on her current form, and I was never happier than watching her keeping her friends amused or leading the way on iTrials.

Somewhere, out there, there will always be a dashing red-haired pirate flashing dual pistols with his friends and loves by his side. A giant of a young man wielding the heroic heritage of Mother Russia. A meter maid with a riot shield who never let anything stop her dreams. A classy quiet woman who played no game she couldn't win.

    ... I need a drink.

Between fumbling Aion and Blade & Soul, NCSoft lost $6 million last quarter.

So of course they kill City.
  11. I have a 29 TW/WP on SOs, so I know how tedious it might see at the beginning.

But I also have a purpled out 50 Elec/TW, so I know there's a promised land on the other side. Stick with it, the more time and inf you invest the more you'll be amazed

    2. Variations on giving VIPs more points. This includes making things that are purchase-only cost less for VIPs, giving VIPs more (existing types of) things for free, etc. This is risky, because it risks reducing revenue, because the increase in Premiums compelled to upgrade to VIP might not offset the loss in spend by VIPs currently paying out to buy points.
    3. Add new features that do not yet exist and fully gate them behind VIP status, the way Incarnate content is. It's difficult to speculate what these features might be, since I'm not particularly aware of what new features might be on the horizon.
Yup. I think the big thing with #3 is that they are going full bore on adding new features that do not exist: Incarnate content. If that's not your cup of tea, then, well...

You're not hearing an argument because you're leaving out a lot of the benefits of being a VIP.

With 33% or so E/N defense, the Galaxies become not even a nuisance. He wouldn't have as much defense exemping on a Moonfire though. My Elec's biggest challenges so far have been groups of Tarantula Queens and Dark Ring Mistresses, as even resisted boss levels of psionic damage can pile up pretty quickly, and our friends the Cimerorans.
