Quote:Cool!Pics or it didn't happen, right? Well, I can top that: here's a video!
Petless Masterminds are not a new idea, but the general concensus is that any such character is doomed to suck. Well, I've found out otherwise. They don't have to suck!
With a careful brew of +HP, +Resist and damage procs, I've made a petless Mastermind that is a capable combatant all on its own. It is more survivable than various stock archetypes, and dishes out more damage than some of its cousins.
I think I went overboard on survavability a bit. It has more hit points now than the Arachnos archetypes, and can take more hits than maybe it should. The video can explain more.
Granted, any sensible player would put the same amount of effort into practically any other archetype and make a character that's FAR more effective, but that's not the point. The point is that I made a petless Mastermind, and I made it work. (-:
Apologies to fans of Paralytic Poison. I completely forgot to use it in the video.
I don't think the reason he did it was to be able to use dual pistols. He/she just wanted to show that it was possible to make a MM without pets. The pistols is just for fun I guess. -
Quote:City of Warcraft, 1 Hero's Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Statesman. Nah I'm good with 50 being the max level. I enjoy my toon's so much that I keep on playing them even when they have hit 50For many players, getting to 50 means retiring the toon, it would be nice to give 50 level characters something to work for, I would like to see level 50-60 content added for that reason.

Quote:As I said between playing CoX I play EQ2, EvE, WoW, (very little but it happens). I don't accept that CoX would be heavier on the load then EQ2 for example. And I assure you that SF4 is far more heavy on your computer when you have every single setting maxed out. That sounds like a combination of rig and net connection. Net connection plays quite a large part in it; I'm on Universiry internet of a not-so-good quality, and I know I get more lag spikes in general then I did back home. That said, they are rather rare, given my rig is packing a decent GFX card and some good crunch power.
I know I sure don't lag in Pocket D, put it that way.
I can even play Crysis with everything on high. The problem is not my computer, everything in CoX is maxed out and I do not experience any issues with performance drops.
My problem is the connection to the server and in some maps like Pocket D. Pocket D got a strange lag when I turn the camera in a specific angle when I'm standing in a specific corner. It's in a corner in the hero bar. Somtimes I get delayed when I run over the dance floor but not always.
Comparing this to not have connection problems with any other MMO that I'm playing.
A problem with my router or something like that would have been an easy fix but i've already tried that out and there's nothing wrong with my router or my connection speed.
And again as I said before I am a EU resident that always play on US servers (stupid in a way but I have my reasons) and I have not experienced any lag in any other MMO. It's an issue that I have only with CoX.
Edit: running around the major cities in CoH yesterday I found that while standing behind some buildings (don't remember exactly which buildings) and turning the camera makes the game lag a little bit.
I may sound very negative but I do love this game. The lag is frustrating. And the "you shouldn't aggro too much mobs" is just dumb. Why is it my fault that the servers can't handle if you aggro too much mobs? If it's an custom AE map I can agree that the players is to blame, but now and then I lag if a tank in the team goes around aggroing 3 enemy groups on the same time and foot stomps on a regular mission with settings +4. -
Quote:You know that this isn't true right? Blizzard has been very efficient to keep on upgrading their graphics over the years. Just take a look at the graphics between WoW, Burning Crusade and WOTLK. It's a huge difference from player models to mobs to buildings and landscapes.WoW with it's low graphics requirements isn't exactly useful for performance comparisons. It's like saying "When I'm on the freeway with 500 other cars I can keep up with them perfectly fine and even pass many of them. When I get on the race track though everybody is passing me. Obviously this is a flaw in the track surface that needs to be fixed."
WoW isn't a niche game like CoX. It has such a huge audience that it deliberately keeps it's graphics requirements at rock bottom just to keep the masses subscribed. CoX on the other hand continually upgrades it's graphics so that a machine which will work great today will work horribly 4 years from now.
And if you think the WoW graphics are good on high settings then take the time to actually look closely at them next time you play. Note that many of the clothing items are not actually separate pieces attached to the model but rather just a surface drawing on the character base. You can notice it most with the belts. Actually look at them and you can see they are just drawn onto the character's body.
.
Quote:And if you look closely at CoH player models, you'd also notice that most of our costume parts are drawn directly onto the body, just like in WoW. (That's anything in the Tight or Tight With Skin category for chest/hips, anything in the Smooth/Bare category of gloves, and a lot of foot options.)
And I can add in that I could run The Matrix Online (until it was shut down) without any problems with the rig I had back in the days. MXO's graphics was a lot more detailed then CoX and more intense to draw up. A lot of players had problems with getting MXO to run at good fps when it was new, because of the requirements was too high and advanced for a lot of the old technology that we had back then. It was a game that was before it's time. You talk about clothing separated from the body.. well just take a look at good old MXO!
Heck, I can mention that even Star Wars Galaxies ran like a charm for me when it prospered.
Now I'm playing a 6 year old game on new hardware that run SF4, LoL and WoW without any problem and in CoX which again is a 6 year old game I have conn lag issues during big maps and in an almost empty Pocket D!? Explain!
Edit: missions didn't lag today *yay!* a Pocket D populated by 5 player characters still lags though... It might have something to do with the light effects or it might have something to do with the npc characters... I don't know yet..
So is it that strange that I am worried of the lag that may come with Going Rogue..? -
Quote:this is absurd...i think the devs are planning to improve performance in the ITF by removing the capes from the romans in i17, BABs even stated somewhere (cant find the post atm), that there is a significant performance drop when more critters or players are using capes (i think he said with 100 critters that have capes theres a 97% decrease in performance)
-
Quote:thisAt this particular time, UberGuy, especially considering Ultra mode and the possible performance ramifications that might come with it...
I would consider it damn near reckless of the dev team NOT to move some priorities around and get overall performance issues dealt with ASAP.
Otherwise, when open beta for Ultra mode hits and performance is even worse off for everyone enabling it, (especially for those of us that just dropped $1250 on parts,) it might be very bad for this game.
At the least, it will be a marketing nightmare. "Introducing Ultra Mode! Be sure not to enable it even if you have Deep Thought as your PC unless you enjoy 10FPS in Grandville."
Now that's a rather doomy statement. I'm hoping for a different outcome. However, in the Army I was taught to hope for the best and expect the worst.
I'm sticking with that for now. -
They have had 6 years to adress this issues. Long enough.
If they have to design an entirely new engine then do it. If they have to swap their own servers then do it.

Quote:So in the end the lag is the players fault because we aggro too many spawns? This means that if you drag spawns together, you'll create the lag problem whether you have ambushes or not. Ambushes will just make the problem more severe. However, if you are careful to fight one spawn at a time and can defeat them and the responding ambushes as they appear, you will get minimal degradation.

Quote:Well I ain't got a monster machine. My rig is; Mac Mini Late 2009, 4 gigs dd3 ram, nvidia 9400M and a 2.53GHz intel core 2 duo but it's more then enough to handle the games I play without any hassle. As I'm also in Os X 10.6 there should be no problem at all with memory needed to run CoX. Especially taking in consider what I said before; that a 25 man raid in WoW with most of the settings maxed out, some on high and medium draw distance doesn't even make my Mac Mini break a sweat (yes it stutters some in Dalaran but that place is so damn zerged). If you end up combining things like the ITF server-side lag, the likelyhood the game may be running out of swap on mid-range (probably 32-bit) rigs, and the way it seems to soak bandwidth, the experience sounds like it could be pretty raw. My rig is good to go on everything but the overall physical RAM, as I'm still on XP (something I'll be addressing soon), but I know people with less high-end specs (including bandwidth) run into some annoyances, to say the least.
I love CoX. Would they only adress this issue I would love it even more then I already do. Hopefully GR won't suffer from the same tearinesss -
I've just got feedback from a friend that he plays CoX with a macbook mid 2008 which is equipped with an Intel GMA X1300. Though he is unable to run the game on high graphics settings (he use the recommended settings), the game still runs without any hassle. The X1300 is a much earlier card. I do not have any friend who is equipped with the 4500 so I can not give any feedback on that solution.

I might be completely wrong but it may be an CoX issue with the IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M card. Someone who has bigger experience with Intel GMA and CoX feel free to correct me

Quote:Aye, recently the game has started to lag as h*** for me when I'm in a team. In Arachnos bases it's dreadful. In other big maps and office maps it's bareable. What happens is that I don't just have delay for a sec or so, I can't MOVE, attack or do anything at all lately! And when it doesn't lag as much I still have that damn irritating small delay lag which makes my toon look like I'm afk and that pisses everyone off.For a while now I"ve been curious into certain matters in this game that just seem absolutely absurd.
On my mind currently is the amazing degradation in performance that we seemingly accept blindly in the zone of Cimerora/ ITF maps specifically.
Would someone please explain why a company/game currently celebrating it's 6 year condones such lousy care of its own game?? My real purpose of this thread is to seek out information that would allow anything to be done about such a beautiful TF/SF performance increase. I mean it's one of the latest advances in the game and plays worse than the first ever TF in 2004. Not to mention it is one of the best experiences as far as I'm concerned, well, if you have a great imagination to mentally negate the visual lag it is.
P.S I"m a huge fan of this franchise. I'm not attempting to cause trouble- I'm just surprised about certain things that have gone on and continue to.
More then often I get dced because of all the lag. Yesterday when I was farming with my SG I got dced every 15 minutes. Doesn't matter if i'm on wifi or wired.
My computer doesn't suffer from this in any other mmo I'm playing (Aion, EvE, War, EQ2, WoW) so please devs, FIX IT!!!
It's correct that I'm a europe citizen who is playing on the US virtue server. But I play on US servers in those other MMO's I mentioned earlier above as well, where I've yet to lag! A couple of these MMO's have far higher system requirements than CoX and hundreds of more active players so my location and my internet connection is not the issue.
CoX is an instance based game just like Guild Wars which works flawlessly during missions and even in pvp zerged instances or events so what the f*** is CoXs problem?! A 25-player raid in WoW with 10folds of buffs, a lot of animations at the same time, several AOE's and healing/damage numbers floating around everywhere doesn't lag a single bit while a small 8 man instanced mission in CoX lags a**? I fail to see the logic..
If it lags like this now, what will happen when Going Rogue hits the store and more people probably will buy subscriptions? Lagfestalicious?
If I'm needed you can find me dancing to DJ Zero or drinking sambuca and flatliners in the bar at Pocket D till this lag gets riddled out... -
Quote:aight tyPermanent costume power from a costume code, as others have said. Rather unfortunate we cannot get geometry of this quality more often. That screenshot showing the Tron costume only being NPC approved was severely disappointing. Can we not get some stuff that radically changes our character silhouette, pretty please?
-
Ok, yeah exactly I do not want to fill up the chat windows. Maybe I could try to add the text as an /afk text instead. Then it wouldn't be as annoying
-
Btw will this keep spamming the text as long as I hit the key or will the text only appear when the power is recharged and ready for activation?
-
Thank you very much! This has bugged me for a while lol!
-
i've really tried to find some easy info about this for a couple of days but it's so cryptic out there... What I want to do is when I hit number 1 on my keyboard which activates the first power in my powerslot, my character will say something at the same time as he activates the attack. I want the attack and the say text to be bind to the same key on the keyboard.
Is this possible?
Best Regards -
as we said 5 million times before... NO the game is not dead, yes there are alot of players online but most are either doing missions in other teams, are in AE, badge hunting, etc etc. Find Member is a great tool to get in contact with players who already have a mission team that can use a hand.
Broadcasting etc etc.. -
Quote:Cool pic! OOT, what's the costume pieces that you are wearing? Is it lvl 50 unlockables?I will be remaking PPD Shell into a Dual Pistols/Energy Manipulation from his current Assault Rifle/Energy Manipulation. Now if I could only have a Police Drone for a back slot costume piece.

It's a great idea IMO and would add up some fun. Esp. if done on villain side as well so I could go with my thugs MM and beat up the hellions and the skulls with my possenyahahhnyaaaahh
