I posted a build and was hoping for some optinions on it and further advice.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which you got from sevral ppl including myself yet your disecting my posts as though its me whose asked for advise - I know and am happy with my build tvm. The very title you gave this thread implied you WANT advise - I think we covered teh 'be more specific' angle already. Its hard to advise when you didnt ask waht you wanted and when people answer with advise isnt it worh taking in - old hands know their swords and all that.
[/ QUOTE ]
By posting my own opinios I expect people with more expirience to tell me why do they thing those opinios are flawed (or not). I'm not saying "you don't know s**t". My various arguments were supposed (or rather: I was hoping) to make you or someone else give contrary arguments or confirmations, both of which are good.

[ QUOTE ]
Anyway, I'm following the fire/dark build posted in this forum, which skips rez... it's a damage build, not a support one. A dark/dark is much more... supportive, so a rez is OK.
[/ QUOTE ]
Erm huh?
If your building for damage then thats your call but remember corruptors are the healing ones or as close to healers as we've got. Teams will expect you to heal and rez them. There were a spate of 'offenders' claiming they were for damage not healing but thats their point - to heal ad defend. Corruptors only have it as a secondery but its still a supportive pool you've taken. Perhaps cold or another less supportive would have been better than one folks know to be a good healing pool?
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm... in that case, the devs should work on the class descriptions. Corruptors are clearly marked with the "high damage, low HP, ranged" tag. That's what I'd expect from a fire/* build. A dark/dark build, having much weaker spells (in terms of damage), is clearly much more supportive (still... some more info about that in the char building screen would be nice, cos right now it seems full of rubbish).
[ QUOTE ]
Another thing;
Your being overly pedantic (or defensive)without reason, as well its obvious your not going to add debuff to powers that dont take it now isnt it?
[/ QUOTE ]
By that logic I should slot a power with anything it can be slotted with. Enhancements are percentage based, thus it's a rather silly idea to try and enhance a "weak" buff/damage/debuff, because you wont gain much. Also, I didn't say I WON'T put the -acc in... I was asking if it's really worth it.
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
OK, that sentence made no sense... What the hell did you try to say there?
[/ QUOTE ]
Erm firstly drop that attitude its not going to get you any favours round here (some would eat you alive for it)- there is no need to be snide as its obviously about hover?
YOU said 'slotting hover for speed' - I said that I'd heard a regular PvP'er saying he'd done that to his hover but as YOU said your not intending to PvP then its not really much use or that important to your build. All of which seemed obvious in what i'd written in the first place. Jeez....
[/ QUOTE ]
With all respect, that sentence really made no sense to me, and I believe if I'd write something like that and showed it to my English teacher, she'd be terrified.
Your clarification is much better.
The whole thing about PvP is that I don't want to take part until our (that is, villains) lvl cap is raised. At that point, we'll get more skills, and more enhancement slots, so it should be possible to slot things such as hover. And THEN, it'd be nice.
EDIT: I believe I also missed and didn't read one of your posts...Curse you for double posting!
(J/K)
[ QUOTE ]
ah Fuzzi - my love *sobs*. VERY good pets slotted right they are a law unto themselves and unlike other pets are walk-through so dont clog up doors.
They can take hold, immob, heal, taunt (according to planner =/) and to hit debuff.
[/ QUOTE ]
You mean they're (or rather "he's")... "transparent"?
[ QUOTE ]
Hover adds defence so it doesnt need a flightspeed with one slot, it easier in mish to take it on and off to move.
[/ QUOTE ]
I must be missing manual skills, cos switching hover on and off (tried it once) was a real pain. Is the defense really worth enhancing? It seems really small.
[ QUOTE ]
Shadow fall too is for defence - end ok but additional defence is needed too.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have little expirience with SF. As far as I've read on the forums, it's better to slot it with resists, and use it against specific attacks, rather than a defense skill. (I'm just repeating what I read now)
[ QUOTE ]
Fearsome stare - pop a fear duration in there and acc. It was nerfed but its still a good power.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yup! Mass fear is a really nice thing. I also noted, that it's a good opener!Feared enemies don't attack unless they take damage, so you can cast Tar Patch and Darkest Night without worrying.
[ QUOTE ]
Howling twighlight needs more then just recharge, damage, heal, end or slow but more slots anyway.
[/ QUOTE ]
All of those? And it doesn't take +heal. I guess +disorient and +slow could be best, as that would allow you to escape behind a corner or something, or give enough time to your allies to get the aggro back.
[ QUOTE ]
Nightfall - conerange and damage would be handy there.
[/ QUOTE ]
Range? Oh! Right. How bout a range in Tentacles too?
[ QUOTE ]
TBPH @ 32 take your Nova darkstar - 1 acc, 3 damage (though you cant 6 slot anymore Boooo), 2 debuff - when you can slot it. It will be a good nova combined with your other powers, darkest night in particular as there wont be many left able to squish you lol.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm... I might try that. I still feel shivers run down my spine when I think about using a massive AoE damage spell that leaves me disoriented. Seems like a death wish.
[ QUOTE ]
For teh most part your slotting looked ok altough you seem to have slotted loads on the first few which could have waited so the slots could go on other powers which lack them. Theres no rush for a lot of powers to be 6 slotted - spread them out a lil more as there are other powers there who'd benefit from slots.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, that's cos I'm not playing from the start, but respeccing. Also, one get's much more enhancement slots post 30, so I'd catch up quick I believe. -
[ QUOTE ]
5% I believe. So don't bother slotting it.
[/ QUOTE ]
How 'bout TT and Night Fall? Any AoE -acc is a good thing (sure, there's always the aura... but besides that). -
[ QUOTE ]
Lol thats why we call it a lemming rez. But its also the ONLY one that will rez a whole team - you dont just aggro, IF you go down, you go fighting and isnt healing about teammates as well as you? I think missing your rez and hoping to just heal and prevent deaths is a lil over confident or hopeful in this game - thats the voice of experiance trust me
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah... Some missions are near impossible to do without at least one wipe for the fun. And some people have a strange tendency to completely ignore the ammount of HP they have or ignore the "voice of reason", and charge blindly into battle. Anyway, I'm following the fire/dark build posted in this forum, which skips rez... it's a damage build, not a support one. A dark/dark is much more... supportive, so a rez is OK.
[ QUOTE ]
Your choice as I said but as I also said me and DC have been at dark miasma for some time both as heroes and villains. TG is the best heal in the game anyway - it gives the highest HP (that and kinetics i shud say). Debuffing in all teh powers DO help. I've got 2 acc, 3 heal and 1 debuff in my lvl 50 and my corruptor will slot the same or with recharge instead. Since ED thing have changed a lot before I had 2 acc and 4 heals. Some I know had 6 heals. It does need the acc, we all know this...it had to have some draw bak or empaths would cry
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm... -acc to EVERY power? Gloom and DB don't need it I think, unless PvP's the way to go (as I said, I'll be avoiding it for now). What's the base accuracy debuff (unslotted) for the Blast and Gloom? Char Builder reports TG to have a -10% acc debuff, but lacks info on the other skills.
[ QUOTE ]
Moonbeam already has accuracy built in and while it wont go amiss it shouldnt be at teh expence of another slot. Respoce your hero planner coming up (in relation to primary and additional of course)
[/ QUOTE ]
It still misses quite often without a +acc... And it's annoying.
[ QUOTE ]
Your last post read more like YOUR telling ME tbh, I'm still not sure you want advise, and I'm not asking for any lol. The pools are the same and carry over tricks and lessons learned from defenders - teh major diff is now the damage output has gone up for the blasts though still not as high as blasters (AFAIK)
[/ QUOTE ]
I posted a build and was hoping for some optinions on it and further advice.
[ QUOTE ]
Though slotting hover for speed sounds like a waste of slots I'd heard a reg PvP'er talking about it but if your not PvP bound i shouldt have thought that would figure?
[/ QUOTE ]
OK, that sentence made no sense... What the hell did you try to say there? -

OK... after playing around with the Char Builder, I came to this setup (lvl 32 seems a good lvl to respec at, as you get refunded for all the enhancements, and can afford new ones with a bit of luck).
During the next levels, I'd take Petryfying Gaze, (Something I'm not yet sure of), Dark Servant, (and more stuff I'm not sure of).
Vengance seems nice, so is TP friend (for the rez spell). Life Drain doesn't seem all that good, especially with TG. Torrent is a knockback, which (if TT works) won't be needed, and can sometimes be a real pain (if you knockback enemies into more enemies... grrr, sometimes I hate the masterminds robots for that!). As for Blackstar, I'd really rather see someone post some info about it first.
Also, once more enhancements are available, I'd fully slot TT with more -acc (and perhaps a +range, to make this cone a really NICE cone :P ). -
Perhaps I'd care, if other aspects were balanced. But heroes are already in control of any PvP zone. The fact that at least ONE villain class is a pain in the heroes butt is a good thing.

Eh? When you revive at a hospital, you get a 30 second countdown timer. Are they saying this doesn't work and you're subject to PvP immediately?
I mean, it makes little difference, it takes longer than 30 seconds to get out of the hospital, and how, exactly, is this going to stop people from teleporting you after the thirty seconds?
[/ QUOTE ]
With a little bit of luck, you'll be able to exit the zone before the timer expires. -
I just hope they'll change the countdown... The big red numbers and sound is really starting to get on my nerves. Something smaller in the corner would be sufficient IMHO.
-
You know... the lag also doesn't surpise me. Do you remember the event at the end of the CoV beta? The one where massive numbers of Longow troops would spawn in Mercy for everyone to beat up on? That also caused lag like hell... The general response from those whoe defended the game was that "it's beta". Well, it was the end of the beta. And now, this is the final version. I have a strage feeling that the devs didn't learn anything from that expierience.
-
If some developer pops in now and says it's "working as intended"...
[shakes fists in anger] -
[ QUOTE ]
Bah, equality shmallity. He's right on 2 things its debtless and its fun.Heroes won this time but its not always gonna be like that so why get so disheartnened?
[/ QUOTE ]
Ahh... typical response of someone who could play as the winning side... Hold on, as the "winning always so far" side. Throw balance out of the window, and leave it as it is, cos we're winning anyway, so why get angry? It's just a game! So what that one team will have an advantage, it's for Fun (fully deserved the capital F)!
(In case you didn't notice- I was being sarcastic) -
[ QUOTE ]
Right well aye you should have said its a lil hard to give any advise if theres no specific question, it looked like you wanted a full build and you did just ask for a good build which you got.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I guess I was a bit... fuzzy with my question. OK, to clarify: I know what I want from the secondary power set. And I know (more or less), how to slot it. The trouble is with slotting the primary set.
[ QUOTE ]
Petryfying gaze isnt just good in PvP like i say its one of the best hold around.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think I'll be avoiding PvP for quite some time... It bugs the hell out of me to think that heroes (at least so far), have the upper hand (lvl, enhancements, overall skill balance), that's why I want to take this as soon as the lvl cap is gone.
[ QUOTE ]
Not take HT! shame on you, its kinda hopefull to say you should save ppl before they die - some cant help being debt magnets. And its not a normal rez it debuffs, damages and disorientates so can be used as an attack if needs be.
[/ QUOTE ]
It can be dangerous too... You get aggro from all the affected mobs. Yes, it's a good skill... I just always think there's something better. :/
[ QUOTE ]
TG; id stick a debuff there too, its up to you at the end of the day and it depends whether you want to take in what you've asked for. What DO you ahve from your primary?
[/ QUOTE ]
The last thing I'd stick in TG's a debuff. It's a heal, and I'd rather have a good heal, than an avarage heal with a small debuff. A dark/dark set should have enough debuffs as it is!
From my primary I have:
Dark Blast, Gloom, Moonbeam, Dark Pit (which I regret getting), Tentacles, Night Fall. I didn't get any further than that.
[ QUOTE ]
Gloom is good DoT - damage and debuffs in it, personally id stick acc in there too but thats just me
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd stick a +acc to every attack power. The hit rate is poor without it. Unless you talk about a second +acc, in which case... I don't know. Gloom is perhaps the best damage spell (not the MOST damage spell, but it recharges fast, and the DOT is nice), so a +dmg enhancement will give the biggest bonus (as it's percentage based).
[ QUOTE ]
Moonbeam is fabby - leant more on damage for this one, i have a habit of using acc's now as well
[/ QUOTE ]
Again, at least one +acc in every attack skill, including Moonbeam. (One +acc seems to be doing fine on my fire/dark build).
[ QUOTE ]
TT; Personally i'd take them - i like them but not at teh expecne of summit else - builds are coming down to whether you intend to PvP or not i suppose.
[/ QUOTE ]
If it's indeed bugged, then one can hope it'll be fixed. In this case, this spell could prove to be VERY useful in PvP.
[ QUOTE ]
Torrent is ok, i like its some dont and blackstar like DC says was doubtful on a defender but that wasnt the purpose of a defender so i'd assume the damage output of it has gone up considerably.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd still rather hear something from someone who used it on a corruptor first. Getting disoriented seems like a major debuff, especially since this spell could draw a LOT of aggro.
[ QUOTE ]
Slotting for damage, acc and debuff's are what i've gone for (with Raven and Nostiluca)
[/ QUOTE ]
That's what I'd go for. Perhaps an endurance reduction too... After all, the damage output is small... so you'll need to fire more. Endurance reduction seems to be quite a logical step.
[ QUOTE ]
The fitness pool is a must on most toons tbh i dont know why its optional. Swift i normally miss tho.
A lot recommend fly as a blaster/corruptor but I'm an SJ fan.
[/ QUOTE ]
SJ is a very good travel power, and Combat Jumping is also nice (with Hurdle), as it's fast and cheap. However, it has no use in PvP (where quite a lot of battles are in the air), and in PvE I could live without it. I was thinking about slotting Hover for speed once the cap is raised. Not for traveling, but for combat.
[ QUOTE ]
What have you got from your primary so far?
Dont fret about the cap raising as the 40's tend to be epic choices. Try fiddling wih you build on te hero planner from the cold front site - they have good build guides too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Epic choices? What do you mean? -
[ QUOTE ]
Secondly, to these people who complain about unbalanced PvP. PvP is for fun! You get killed by a hero/villain, you don't get debt. No harm done so therefore, why does everyone complain?
Just my two pence.
[/ QUOTE ]
Let's see... Would you LIKE a game of cards, if you knew your opponent had a major advantage (I don't know... he get's more cards or something)? Not for money, for fun. Would you like such a game? I know I wouldn't.
I'm on Union, and I'm not even going to bother with the event. I'm not suprised heroes won. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, Ateria's up to 31, so I can make a reasonably educated stab at this. Basically I find myself agreeing with Dead_Calm on most of the powers. My build (so far and planned) is:
(...)
Can't be bothered to do slotting, so here are a few notes on that and the powers I've cohsen:
(...)
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't like the idea of abilities that drain you and leave you weakened. Such a spell is Blackstar. I'd rather save it for a second respec or when the lvl cap is raised (at least until someone else tells me something about it).
Instead of that, I'd take the sniper shot. Considering the small number of attack skills, this is better than nothing (PLUS... with all the -acc you should be able to hit your enemies even DURING the fight).
Also, it's the slotting I have trouble with. You suggest an accuracy and some damage enhancements. And optionally some recharge. I was thinking about putting in a ToHit Debuff enhancement, but I don't really know if it's worth it. If not, than a end reduction.
For fearsome stare, I'd put in +acc, fear and perhaps a recharge.
TT: I THINK the damage this spell does is laughable, so there's no reason to put any +dmg. Personally I'd go for +acc, +immobilize and -acc.
In fact, I'm tempted to put -acc to any AoE skill in there (with the possible exception of Fearsome Stare; the fear effect is powerful enough).
Now, so far I haven't been counting the ammount of enhancements. I don't know if it's possible to put everything in.
Finally, (and this may be considered heresy by some), I don't like taking rez spells (Howling Twilight). IMHO you should do your best to STOP people from dying, rather than bring them back to life after they fall. (But than again, expirience has tought me that people will die anyway, and a in combat mass rez is a very good thing; albeit quite situational, for best results).
Oh, and a small note about TG: I'd rather go for 3 heals, and start healing early. I'm using this setup as another corruptor (fire/dark), and it's working very nicely, both solo and in PvP. -
I'd still rather see some more official response on the matter. Prestige doesn't grow on trees ya know... :/
-
[ QUOTE ]
I've actually taken Dark Pit since I'm Dark/Kinetics and have no secondary controls. I'd agree its not the most amazing power going but I certainly find it useful, especially in larger groups.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, if you got no controls, then "something" is better than "nothing". Although a dark/dark set has quite a lot of control. Tentacles, Tar Patch (well, it does slow down enemies quite a lot), Fearsome Stare, Darkest Night (not really control, but it help a good deal) and the fact that most spells give a nice -acc.
But anyway: so... doesn't anyone have any good build suggestion? -
[ QUOTE ]
What's wrong with Night Fall? It's our only cone AOE with proper(ish) damage and stacks well with TT. Seems to hit a fair amount with 1 accuracy (and what do you mean by duration? The defense debuff?).
Know what you mean about poor damage output though - I think it may just be the Dark/ set itself.
[/ QUOTE ]
Whops... I ment Dark Pit, not Night Fall, which is a nice AoE (well, the only one really).
Dark Pit has a -10% accuracy built in, and since it's AoE, the Disorient duration is a joke. Only usable against "white" enemies. -
Hmm... I think I should have noted: I've already got a dark/dark character at lvl 30. The problem is, I'm quite unhappy with him, and that's why I want some suggestions. (I got the respec ready and waiting)
I know that Night Fall is a terrible, terrible waste of a slot. The damn thing needs 2x acc to hit anything, and even then the duration is pathetic.
I also know that Acrobatics (I got Super Jump, which is kind of weird for a corruptor, but quite fast in a city enviroment) is a nice skill to have, although I wouldn't say it's all that important. I could switch for Fly, but that's rather slow (albeit better in PvP).
Tenebrous Tentacles is a VERY good PvE spell, but tend's to miss WAY too much in PvP for some reason. :/
Finally, I know how to slot Twilight Grasp (2x acc, 3x heal, 1x recharge) and Tar Patch (3x recharge, 1x slow) for good effects.
Also, Stamina is a must! Depending if I take fly this time or stick to Super Jumping, I'd take Hurdle or Swift.
The problem is with the other skills. I feel I'm doing verry little damage, and I'd like to do something about that. I know that dark =/= fire (in "damage" sense), but still, some damage bonus'd be nice. So, I'd like some suggestions on how to slot the powers from the primary set, as I think I know what I want to do with the secondary.
Also, I have no expierience with Torrent, Life drain (is it needed with Twilight Graps at all) and Blackstar. Also, Petrifying Gaze might be nice in PvP, but I'd skip that till we get our cap raised. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Oh... OK. But a blaster can 2 shot me from quite far away with 2 damage abilities one after the other and he's not a "n00b hunter"? Right...
PS. No, I'm not a stalker.
[/ QUOTE ]
The difference being, I would imagine, is you can *usually* see a blaster coming. Or, to put it another way, they're not ALWAYS invisible and don't neet a fairly elaborate amount of prep work or particular powerset to defeat. I imagine that's why ppl aren't complaining about them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ahh right... add a temporary stealth power to the concept, the fact that most blasters can fly, a spice of lag and buggy game mechanics (not completely bugged, but I still have situations when toons appear and vanish as they please), and you get something even more annoying than a stalker, IMHO. At least you can expect a stalker to attack you when you can't see him. I certainly don't expect that from a blaster.
Also, for your consideration. AFAIK the blasters critical ability kicks in when the baster is low on health, right? So... a low on helth blaster, who switches on build up and aim, does 400% damage, for at least 10 seconds against ANY target. Compare that to a corruptor (who according to the character selection screen in CoV is the villain ranged damage dealer) doesn't have build up, and his criticals land when his ONE TARGET is low on health. Am I the only one who thinks there's something wrong?
Someone could argue that a brute with rage is also getting a good deal of bonus damage against everyone... Well, how often do you see a brute in PvP with a full rage bar, considering it falls to 0 whenever the brute is killed?
PS. Yes, I do realize we're talking about stalkers mostly. But since the thread IS about balance, I'd like to throw some more classes into the general equasion. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
I agree entirely, they do one thing well and the rest not so good as anything else and there isnt anything wrong with that. Seems to me people are moaning about them as they are new and dont know how to interact with them dynamically, most people seem to think they are overpowered scrappers as opposed to a stealthy squishy.
[/ QUOTE ]
I disagree. Ppl see the one shot and death and wonder, while they get a good look at the ground, "Why was that fun?"
I've been thinking about it and I've come to a conclusion, stalkers should be renamed "n00b hunters". Based on everything I've read and experienced it's the more inexperienced PvPer who form the staple diet of the stalker. Which is unfortunate, as someone's early experiences of PvP should not be a faceplant from an unseen foe, not if PvP is to gain popularity.
All just my opinion.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh... OK. But a blaster can 2 shot me from quite far away with 2 damage abilities one after the other and he's not a "n00b hunter"? Right...
PS. No, I'm not a stalker. -
As already said, villain toons have that one single thing about them... they're more "overall". They do two jobs (usually). Now, in a 1 on 1 situation, this could be good. However, as soon as more people enteer the fight, heroes get the edge: specialization will always win.
Also, while a stalker can be a pain in the buttocks because of his/hers stealth, I can't help but feel that blasters get even more: good range, build up and aim (throw in a temporary stealth power and a dmg inspiration), and you got something that should not be able to enter any PvP zone in any game for balance reasons. -
Could someone please suggest a nice dark/dark corruptor build? Pleeeeeeaseeeee...
-
If the IoP does what it describes, then:
a) it's bloody expensive
b) the boost is laughingly small
c) because it makes your base raidable, it also means you need even MORE money for defences, and in case of a raid, can loose a lot of money due to damaged SG items.
d) basicly, it seems to be a waste of time :/ -
[ QUOTE ]
I'd like an answer on this as well....it actually made bases worth bothering with...now its just pointless...
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed. I'd also like a response.
The only reason for a hospital is during raids. But that's a bit far fetched. Most people would like it for the ability to get back into the mission fast. -
[ QUOTE ]
Ok, a PvP based question.
I have recently started a fire/dark build as I reckon due to the high damage, the capability to snipe and the potent debuffs will make it a very potent PvP build. What I'd like to know is, can Shadow fall and Super speed provide an effect that's close to invisibility, or is it still kinda worth taking seeing as stealth won't stack with Shadow fall.
And that Fluffy de-buff extravaganza tip is brilliant! I'll have to try that!
[/ QUOTE ]
Uhm... a corruptor with SS is kind of a weird choice IMHO, even if it'd allow stealth. Also, I don't think SS gives stealth in PvP (as I always see enemy heroes with SS), barely aggro reduction on mobs. -
I decided (being a lazy ******* an' all) not to read the whole thing, and in resposne to the OP:
Serves you right! As long as I (as a corruptor) get held for 30+ seconds (I timed it once; activated Brake Free, cought a hold, and ran back to the base... the hold was still there when Break Free was over) and killed in 3 shots, I think it's imbalanced towards heroes. Not to mention the countless times when I saw heroes run over the villain base or camp right outside. Great.
