  1. I used to dink around with Corel Draw for doing logos and such.

The nice thing about vector graphics is... you can change reolution and it doesn't get a case of the jaggies. Also the file size isn't determined by it's dimensions, but by how many objects you have in it.

The tricky part is doing your shading with "blends"... instead of directly airbrushing or painting your shading, you kinda have to 'draw' the highlight shape and then tell the program to gradually step it out from one shape to the other.

It's a little tricky... but when done well it looks teh awesome.
  2. according to the dA category breadcrumbs, yes.

But it's a really good one. I'm enjoying Rocinate's work on your characters a lot... no, I mean a LOT.
  3. Noticed that the plaid miniskirt 'clips' badly when character is in 'rest' pose (down on one knee). The side with the leg forward shows skin/tights texture thru the side/back of the skirt.

    WIP: Updates

both of these are really really really nice.

*sets down lawn chair and popcorn to watch for the updates*
  5. Shub-Niggurath does not disturb me.

For I have pinged Shub-Internet, that dark source of all lag, hidden twenty stories deep beneath the Pentagon.

    (( love the sketch! ))

    What the hell?!

    Zero Wing.

AYBABTU is the English translation of the original Japanese text in the intro of the game.
  7. Awwww...

    So cute... that's really good.

(now I'm jealous of the plushies too...)
  8. Wow.

That's really spiffy. I can see Ironik's critiques... but yanno what? It's still a really really REALLY awesome piece of work.

(Aside: One of these days, I'm gonna catch NPG saying something nice about someone's art... and then I'm gonna put it in my sig. :P )
  9. *jaw drops*

    That.... is SO awesome...

Happy belated B'day, and you better make sure to keep her happy... no way MY wife would buy me art like this!!

I bet none of you saw this coming, did you? Thought this thread was dead, didn't you? Well, it's not for I give you...

    Another Battle-Angel Update

Someday, this will actually be finished... hopefully before Doug hunts me down and skins me alive for making him wait so long

    Oh. My.

A creature such as that could make a guy get religion....
  11. Indeed, she gets the inked piece, yes?

As for changing things up... hey.. as long as the artist communicates the intentions to make changes, it's all good. Poison did some really nice things with mine, they weren't really overt, but .. nice.

I think that when an artist agrees to draw your character, they are going to have their ideas on what he or she is like.. which might not be the same as your ideas.
  12. Oh yeah.. since the costume creater allows all costume elements on both sides... villians could be re-rolled as heroes (tweak the name a little, dupe the costume and bio) in order to participate. Powersets can be matched to a certain degree... if not, no biggie, you're only here for a party and don't want to attract attention to your villainous natures anyway, RIGHT?
  13. (( not sure... but RL has been intruding on many. ))

    Update on me...

the dialup alone wasn't the problem.

attempting to connect thru an old Thinkpad that can barely manage 800x600 resolution, on a scratchy phone line that had to be 'treated kindly' in order for the modem to dial properly (how many commas in the dial string, again?)... all whilst sitting on a cheap single bed. yeah.

The broken-down Uhaul truck outside didn't help either.
  15. tried to load it earlier... got nuthin' but a timeout.

Thought maybe my company had put it on the banned list.
  16. Sweet.

Here's a strategy that works for me really well.

    Quick Outline of Plot Elements
Write "Main" prose - action, mood, really important dialogue. Make it simple and direct. Check for grammar here.
Flesh out the story - add character details, rewrite sections that don't 'flow' or fit the mood, add incidental dialogue. Try and maintain the same 'tense' as what you already have in place.

It's the writing equivalent of an artist starting a portrait by sketching circles and rough guides, the adding in details to turn the rough sketch into a finished piece. Along the way you can see what it's GOING to look like... and it can still be critiqued as a complete concept even tho' it's not finished.
  17. Not bad at all actually.

Tho' if your teacher wants a POLISHED story in 40 minutes... yargh! More than likely what's required is a good 'draft', which then can be run through the editorial wringer, much like we're helping you with, right here.
  18. Rowr.... please stop making my brain hurt?

Unless of course, you NEED those expressions of agony for your drawing lessons... in which case, go right ahead, only send me your WIP's... *wink*

I've seen obstinated code more legible than some of the things mist writes.

the scary part is.... at some point someone will attempt to compile her prose... and verily, it DID compute....

(and the angelic choir goes) AAAAH!!

    Update on me...

    Moving sucks.

attempting to keep in touch, using a 7-year-old laptop and a dialup connection from a Motel 6 sucks worse.

But at least you CAN keep in touch that way.

May your move be safe, quick, and free from incident.
  21. Should be relatively easy to do.

Start with a blank 'wall', either white or light neutral color.

Create a series of horizontal parallel lines.. these will be your 'foot' lines (4', 5', 6'). Bump the line weight up just a tad.

Duplicate the set, and offset the whole set down by 1/3 the distance between the lines. Duplicate and offset again. Unweight these lines back to default.

You should end up with a horizontal 'grid'... thick, two thin, then thick, two thin, thick..

Then put numbers to the right and left sides of the thick lines, or slightly above them... descending from the top. Put an apostrophe after each number ( 6' ).

Finally... find a wall 'texture' (cinderblock or brick) to watermark the image... and import it into your scene as a lineup wall! Scale appropriately, add harsh white lighting from the front... "Turn to the right!!!"
  22. game = green, blue, and red 'fields' (semitransparent colored spheres, perhaps slightly gaseous or plasma-like)

beyond game - painful expression on caster, glow from eyes or around head...

as an aside, why does the "resurrect" animation look like a serious pleasure rush? I know it's this otherworld "arise! and be healed!" thing.. but...

    My 100th piece!!

oh yes! once you get the Pumpkin badges, this is what they do.... "please don't notice me, please don't notice me..."

love the art... it's sweet and cute and sassy and.... (urge to hug Dragonberry rising...)

    FIRE!!!

OK... it's getting better and better...

the yellow should be at the source of the fire... blending through orange and red as the flames progress outward. so moving it a bit down would help. same goes for "detached" flames -- base yellow, blending thru to red at the tips.

also you can distort the space around the fire and above it to show heat - if you have a background, just use a light smudge and wavy motion to blur it a little.... gaussian blur effect from a brush works really well for that.
