Ms.Japan Winner of LOV CC
Very very nice and as a side note she won another CC? I think she got second in the MMOART one for Victory.
Athough it is a damn sweet costume.
yes she won another one this one was before the MMOART one
Gratz Ms. Japan! Very cool artwork!
Scarf_Girls Official Kid Brother!
Very Nice! I like the way you did the blades on her forearms.
Gratz Ms. Japan!
Coolness!
Here is the letter the guy sent Ms.Japan on details of toon...
Hello!
I took some liberties with her that may not be accurate compared to the toon
you have in your head. Still, I think I've stayed close to the spirit
of your idea.
The main thing you'll notice is that I've replaced her claws with
large blades, a la Baraka from Mortal Combat. The reason for this is
simple: of the powers in the game, spines and claws are the most narrow
sets, in my opinion. They are both such specific pwers that they
invariably bring the original heroes (Marrow and Wolverine) to mind in
almost every instance. So whenever I'm presented with spines or claws,
I change them around visually to make the subject character unique, but
still functional as a spines or claws toon.
Next, I've altered her costume to make her more... well, Japanesey.
I reworked the "pain pads," changed the standard side strip to a
Japanese dragon embroidery, and gave her face real kabuki paint -
specifically the scarab mask.
Lastly, not so much a chage and a bit of artistic license: I made
sure to make her GRACEFUL. Japanese warriors, while deadly, are always
beautiful to watch... their fighting is like dancing; Ms. Japan should
be no different.
In this image we find Ms. J faced off against one of the tougher
opponents in the game - a Paragon Protector - deep in the bowels of a
secret Crey lab. The damage to the hall tells of a major battle about
to end. And Ms. Japan had better wrap it up soon: with her Threat-Level
file photos flashed as "Warning" on all the telescreens in the complex,
she's about to face some serious reinforcements!
Congrats on winning the costume contest! I hope you like your
prize.
Please feel free to write me with all your hosanas and hate mail! Ms.
Japan is a great concept - have lots of fun with her in Paragon City!
haha I just noticed toons picture is on the screens in the background and yes he changes things and makes it his own on your toons.
That is SWEET.

indeed...and I agree with everything he wrote. especially in regards to the claws aspect.....again, congrats on a great piece of work ~

Pic is good as long as you don't let any real Japanese see it. Or they will make a Mr. Yankee for revenge.

I love it!! Did the player of Ms. Japan want the changes made or was it up to the artist? Just wondering- I dunno if I like the changes to the pain pads on the shoulders. Reasons being I was very surprised to see how well the actual pain pads in the game went with the concept/design of Ms. Japan. I like the pain pads, I just could never find a good look for them.
Great great pic anyway!

well the artist changed it. No Ms.Japan wanted it like her toon appears in game..thats why pictures of toon were sent to artist. I agree with you as well and think it should have been drawn to be just like the toon ingame. I would be mad if I paid money for it and the guy changed it up..notice no cape like in game, face is diff, gloves diff, boots, shoulder pads different But this was a free thing so can't look a gifted horse in the mouth or however that saying goes? Its still a nice picture but would have been better if artist didn't take artistic freedom to an extreme on her toon.
artistic license is ok in my books, especially when you are talking about Free art. since we are talking free work here I find it is ok to critique the artists and make requests but at this point the bottom line decision is his as he is doing the work and what inspires him for the piece in question. and remember...its you character...just think of it as an alternate costume your character will, or had worn. you said it yourself...why look a gift horse in the mouth...he could have just said "screw it" and opted not to draw the character at all...and that would be the real shame as then we wouldnt have great pieces of work like this one.
now if it was a paid piece I may have some issues but these issues can be quickly resolved. how...the artists presents the changes he has in mind. if there is a good reason and it doesnt "break" the concept of the character it should be good to go. although, if you are dead set on having you character portrayed exactly as in game then the artist should do his/her darndest to make that happen....
personally....I am pretty open with regards to my characters and how the artists portray them. I have made no attempts, yet, to control the posing and have actually only made one request to date in regards to actual costume used. (that I can recall). I have made a few suggestions here and there when asked...but for the most part I have told all the artists (whether commissioned or via free request) to draw what inspires them... I find that if you allow them open range and draw something that interests them it shows much more in the work itself. why? because now they care about the piece a lil bit...they are drawing something that they want to see. sure, they have guideline of the supersuit but everything else is just about fair game with me...
rambling bad...sorry...just something kinda feel stong about is all...~

Ms.Japan won 2nd Place in a MMOArt CC waiting to see that one
Really want to see how that one turns out..as it will be more like real toon ingame from what I have seen MMOArt doesn't change things up on toons resulting in a more accurate looking toon.
Wow!
Indeed, she gets the inked piece, yes?
As for changing things up... hey.. as long as the artist communicates the intentions to make changes, it's all good. Poison did some really nice things with mine, they weren't really overt, but .. nice.
I think that when an artist agrees to draw your character, they are going to have their ideas on what he or she is like.. which might not be the same as your ideas.
