Greetings and thank you, Two Dollar Bill, Trilby and Nightfire9 for your observations and sample builds! My experience so far with the ATO proc is that the foes stand cowering...and don't run while i use Suppression to finish them off.
In referring to the Alpha (or for that matter, Destiny) i was specifically referring to the endurance use/recovery. On a team, with all the leadership toggles running, and all the tools of the Crab soldier the battle won't likely last long. My concern was more when soloing, but the comments you have made - and actually getting to play my character - have shown me that playstyle may have that covered. That and taking out the sappers and Mu's first and with extreme prejudice.
I was going to ask if skipping Spiderlings in favor of other powers was a decent idea but i can see that it is a matter of preference and playstyle.
Quote:SO true! And so i thank you all, especially Two Dollar Bill and Trilby for your insights and reminders that i need to play it to see HOW i want to play it! I will likely post the build i choose after running it by one or both of you first, but next on my list is gathering accolades, XP... and just playing him. I will refer to this post again once i am lvl 50. Thanks again!Ultimately, none of these factors makes or breaks a build. Finding the perfect build is a matter of endless fine-tuning and respecs, and when you finally get it perfect, your build will probably look quite different from my perfect build. -
Greetings! Heh, hehehe, no not quite a vomiting spidercat. I chose Leviathan because it was a toxic, ranged cone often used to follow up venom grenade (because of the 40% -res to toxic)...at least in some of the posts i read. Mace would also be acceptable; besides, i've never had any Leviathan powers higher than School of Sharks and that was on a tank i was respeccing to strip. It looked amusing enough but i've never seen Bile Spray or Artic Breath in action. I didn't realize they were serious on the method of delivery. Last thing i need is a power that causes me to be mistaken for a Vahzilok.
I am considering the Frag Grenade but in originally had it and the WAWG. I found it to be situational because of the kb. WAWG is a lie and usually only hit one or two for me, so at least one foe went flying.
A friend gave me his idea on a modified version of your suggested build, Two Dollar Bill. He wanted me to run it by you.

Code:One of my concerns is that i am often premium and therefore can Not rely on my Alpha to boost me. Frankly that status depends on how often my boss needs me (3 days a week atm). So i need to see if i can make that work, even in a boss battle or an ambush (both are good occasions for that frag grenade...hmm) or maybe an extended battle. I intend to start grabbing accolades and of course inspirations (and dayjobs that grant larger inspirations). Any suggestions with that in mind? I picked up the Panacea proc yesterday (i am lvl eight vet rewards so IO's are goood), and i have 3 of the PVP -res IO's for whatever that's worth.| Copy & Paste this data into Mids' Hero Designer to view the build | |-------------------------------------------------------------------| |MxDz;1499;696;1392;HEX;| |78DA65945B6F12511485CFC0502C507BA185DE0BB52DBD522878D798A6D626B6358| |DD4C637329649212140008D3EFA178CB11AE39BD7171F6C6BBDFE24B569F5C90B6E| |588B066512F2CDAC597BCFDE679FC3F2ED8BAED70B772F28CD3397360A85F86CDE5| |84F66B285782C9B4EA4CCBCFD8A51BC9937D24A2ED7F540C117CBA51266DE17B18B| |30FCBFBB109CCB1B37E2F054C5E1D5BC91CAA4321BF10523B16116FF35555F2AD74| |A369B0E2E99464E9E9AAB0F622924533947E5399633CD4453E5F6526A23591463CF| |7C2EB51E5C9B9F5D8D2F99B75246316964E2CB46A168E6EF74964B945F9BAA5E255| |D852C4A8575159804C7A7C82038350DBE718A5DABC45894576EFA7465E904F5196B| |C5B32B1E8D1EAD5DAB68960E506F013DB24E567894751171ADA2D91867A3AF81F10| |D8CF7C85B3B3C36FB7DC41D79406E828187E423301C15BBAED47BA9AB91F91B99DF| |C1FC0EE62FAF8D936BE23C899E5D51F2383874828C805E713721C6D6741EDAD173E| |429B0E534E839439E0507A5E766D4A4354F2878C92E412B6B69DD82D6B64DEE80ED| |BBE43B50937C6EC4287737B44FD25007D7BA630ADA96685E68BA37C4DEC3E40CE88| |F804351B09CAE8B7D76FD44FDDDBFC8DFA0EF0FE82F910A33D896EFF520D6DA1343| |BEDE55F21AD87F15B44A0F7D9C531F6BEB672DFDAC4517CF003D039CA58FB3F4719| |63BF2CD417E73F03BEA39B647EE9307E06727CE44D93BFC4355F6F3C801D66A648F| |DC07CB7D8C722EA39CCB18E732C6B98CBD05C7399F8F927F82FB76E229BE39F98C7| |C4EBEE0597B49BE023F486C90F30BFA91CF2DFD87B86F424FC4E7967DFE18FCE238| |3C7F4AE3BCBF396ACEE465B909E86A7A0DEB14F663465F6BE34611B7571B770FF54| |C6F923E787AF5C3FF11A5B8E7C66BB5925C2A54A784EB94489D12AD5316F5C37FA0| |D252EDDB0654B5A2F375B90B9EA4C61655DE879598BFF0ABDED1| |-------------------------------------------------------------------|

Thank you for those interpretations of my build, Trilby and Two Dollar Bill. I see in each you surpassed my defense to the three positions, capping and/or supassing the cap. You also bettered my recharge significantly (and damage levels as well).
The pools that i will not use (for appearance, boredom, or just distaste) are the Mu and Soul Mastery sets. I am curious to know though, would i do better to go with the Mace Patron instead of Leviathan? I have yet to pick from the Patron pool and wonder if Shatter Armor will increase my potential for damage.
I have been working from the one guide on tanking a SoA and many, many posts from fellow spiders. I want to be able to make a boss think twice and not be easily stopped by the masses but instead leave them lying crumpled on the ground. I see the damage and recharge you have presented to me and it's potential for devastion.
Think of me as an light tank durable but prefering to strike hard and move on, but if surrounded i will make them pay...dearly. So if you have any other thoughts, please let me know. For now, i must go to work. When i return i will play around with these builds and see what looks good for me and my playstyle (or if adjusting my playstyle might allow me some flexibility). Thanks again! -
Greetings! I am currently leveling up to 50 on my Crab and I thoroughly enjoy him. I have come up with a build that i will work on gathering IO's once i am relatively sure of it. I play ranged to melee - guerilla style, venom grenade, suppression, then the ST attacks. If it's still chasing me then arm lash; frenzy if surrounded (right after another venom grenade). I use omega (followed quickly by venom grenade) for large mobs or opening a boss fight and look forward to school of sharks & bile spray.
A few questions though: Is my recharge sufficient? Serum and spiderlings should be perma or nearly so. Is there a better place for the last slot in Omega; it is there so i have the distance not to aggro the foes before the bomb goes off. Are my defense/resist values high enough? Any weak spots you see or suggestions you make will be greatly appreciated.

Well, the power order is interesting but you can help yourself by posting a datalink or data chunk. Not too many people are going to attempt to rebuild it from reading your list. With a link or chunk we can take a look in Mids and give you a few thoughts. Just from looking though, i am curious why the power to make your attacks come up quicker is the last thing you chose.
-
Thank you very much for the thoughts and explanations - i had been reading up on certain Grav posts and heard plenty of reasons why Grav is broken/how to fix it, why it works great with/awful with: Time, etc. Frankly i found it all a bit confusing. I have started several Grav toons over the years but didn't find them fun. Dying often AND not really contributing to the team on control or damage left me annoyed with my toons. So perhaps what i am asking is for Grav trollers to tell me what secondaries they had the most fun using and why. I like the concept of the powerset but agree it seems a bit. . . broken or at least wounded. So how do You make Gravity Control Fun?
-
Thanks for all the responses! I thought as much but frankly i wish Gravity was better balanced as a set. I mean even some of the powers just don't make sense (how do gravity powers phase something -even temporarily?). Oh well, i will try out the suggestions. Thanks again!
-
Greetings! I have wanted, for some time, to make a Gravity Toon that can seriously contribute to a team or at least hold his own. Gravity, from my attempts anyway, seems a bit light on damage and particularly on AOEs. I don't care if it's aoe or strong single target attacks. So what secondaries would pickup the slack damage wise and why? I posted a similar post on the Dom page - which would make a more effective Grav toon, Controller or Dom?

In keeping with the above comments i have modified my build to increase defense and to hit with a bonus to hitpoints and endurance recovery. My global accuracy went down by eight points but i have Focused Accuracy....which is actually my main concern. If maneuvers was a concern due to the endurance drain then what of FA with an much higher one? As always your thoughts, comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Greetings! Thank you for your further observations EJI, Rangle And Pep. I was dealing with some RL situations and while i saw your posts, i downloaded the page so i could review once i got back into town, i had no real time to do much more at the time. Having reviewed your builds i am ...curious - if i recall correctly both had a higher to hit and neither went pyre. Your defense is a beautiful thing but the damage was lower (just a bit) and one of you took Jacob's ladder away (which i get, you needed Havok's punch for the KC's). I am looking at all of these builds with interest - perhaps i could go Energy and get focused accuracy, improving my to hit (take THAT you doggone Cimmies!) grab Physical perfection. I need to finish testing my current build against enemy groups for a clearer evaluation to see what i need. Lot's of food for thought and Mid's work. Thank you all, I love what this has done for my toon so far and my thought pattern on builds in general.

I tested this build versus Carnies, Malta, & Arachnos - it shrugged off Malta, ignored the Carnies, and only ran into trouble with 7 Mu and Widows providing support (for the 2 or 3 Tarantula Queens and myriad Banes) and even their debuffs/drains melted when i attacked as i should have - aggressively. I tested my toon against them without using my Incarnate powers and it performed beautifully; with the incarnate powers it was akin to a chainsaw with lightning strikes. I put spring attack in their where i did just to fill a space because i didn't like the other power choices but it added to the mayhem and mitigation.
Thank you very much Live_Wyre, LSK, and Rangle - your assistance was invaluable. Special thanks to Live for counseling me on the thought pattern behind my builds. Rangle - i may very well tweak my build closer to yours as people keep trying to roast me, lol. Thanks, LSK for pointing out what is not revealed on Mids but Oh so true in actual play. You have all given me much to think on as i ponder the other toons i wish to improve. Thank you again! -
I reread what was told me and came up with this build:

Thank you Live & LSK for your counsel, please allow me to explain the whyfors of a couple things. I wasn't worried about the endurance cost of maneuvers with the kind of recovery i was getting and the LotG's were there primarily for recharge sake (and the hitpoints bonus). I was told a willpower toon Had regen but that all the regen in the world wouldn't save me if i was always being hit. So def, hitpoints (thus improving regen), and then damage.
But that being said, i hate, Hate, HATE to miss and it is even worse to tickle my opponents. I have plenty of room to play with in endurance and regen but i am reluctant to give up too much defense. I worked hard to get what defense i have but if it requires losing some to actually hit my foes, so be it.
I have been at the opposite end of this with too few hp and poor def and i could spank my foes but they could turn the tables very easily. What would you suggest in place of maneuvers? I was thinking of adding Jacob's Ladder and skipping fireball for more damage - i've gotten better at using it on another tank. So i will work to improve accuracy and see what provides me with some better damage. Any other thoughts or suggestions? -
Any guides out there for Broadsword/Electric Armor?
-
Any guides for an Fiery Aura/Electric Melee tank?
-
Does anyone have a guide for Electric Melee/Fiery Aura Brutes?

Hello, i'm trying to get my Will/Elec/Pyre a boost in damage without giving up too much defense. I'm currently at 46.1 S/L, 43.9 F/C, 43.2 E/N but none of my attacks are near the cap except Lightning Rod and it is just shy of the cap. I have a beautiful amount of endurance, hp and regen. But it takes a while to clear a mob even with most of my attacks being energy. I use this tank for everything: TF's, +50 content, etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Anyone working on a Electric Dom/Control Guide? I'm leveling a Elec/TA
-
Hmm, thank you very much Hydrofoil, CMA, Tsuji and William441. You have all given me much to consider. I have a tendency of locking myself into one way of doing things and your comments have helped me to see that. You are correct there are definitely more damage oriented tank builds (my brother's Fiery Aura/Battleaxe, for example) and easier ones to softcap. I wanted to try something different tank-wise- i have a fire/fire, inv/ss, inv/fire - heh, i was tempted to build a Inv/Elec.
Thank you for the time, thought, and practicality in your replies. I will take some time to evaluate what my tank needs and work to make the needed adjustments. Either way the end result will be a lot better than the original.
-
Thank you for your suggestions! I have tried out the build i mentioned and found it not to my liking. I apologize for not responding sooner; my boss left town for a week and i had to fill in for him (multiple emergencies happened, of course). When i was on, i was purchasing recipes/hero merits/salvage for enhancements i'd need either way. So i have been running for a bit.
I have a few questions and then i will post my current modified build for your perusal and thoughts/comments: How important is it to softcap defense on a Willpower tank and how high should i aim +HP bonus wise? If i frankenslot my Thunderstrike and Lightning Rod i can likely hit the cap (i've read on the forums about 500-550 points of damage for LR). I have an Armaggeddon Dam and Dam/End i could slot in LR for example; would it be worth it to do so(maybe add an Eradication Dam) and fill the last three slots with procs?
I have the current build (with the prospective frankenslotted LR and it's current slotting if you hit shift):

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. I wanted to build a durable, but very damaging Will/Elec tank. I also wanted strong aggro control so i took Mu Mastery for Ball Lightning (i've watched that strip aggro from other tanks like they weren't even there. My original goals were to build for Def, HP(& hence regen), and Damage. I am capped on E/N and one purple inspiration from being softcapped on S/L/F/C. I know several Willpower tankers who are nowhere near the softcap and they are very durable, likely due to regen and mitigation. I see potential in this build but i feel it can definitely be improved.

Hmm, i think you may have it when you compared Nemesis/Mender Silos with Poseidon, also in why it doesn't appear the Well is pleased with him. If you consider why the Well is disappointed in Statesman - a lack of drive for power. Nemesis is known to be extraordinarily cautious (hence, his use of Robot doubles), to look to the long view, plan extensively and act through intermediaries; as Mender Silos he is even worse, he gave up the pursuit of power as a villian to 'save the future'. And he is content to do so in a way that is slow & methodical. He's practically the poster boy of slow and methodical.
Cole would have grabbed MORE power if he knew a greater threat existed, and by infusing his power of the Well into others he accomplishes even more: The Well approves and he gets loyal, powerful minions - but Not as powerful as him. The Well gets more vessels to fill (& possibly seduce into seeking more power). For doing so he likely recieves a power boost AND gets to keep his free will, since he is doing just what it wants. His creativity in this matter is likely applauded, much like the Well applauded Hero 1 for being able to fight his way through Rikti mind control. Not to mention that this pushes already powerful Incarnates like Statesman and Recluse to reconsider their reluctance about gathering more power through the Well. Even as many heroes and villians face the same choice and likely with less knowledge of the dangers. -
