I've played all types and I felt the most effective in a team with my Huntsman build. Being able to debuff large groups and unleash a plethora of AoE's with short recharge and animation times is a lot of fun and quite helpful to a large team. With the team buffs and other ancillary powers, your team will benefit from your presence as well...I was also able to keep and slot Crowd Control in the build (so it's a small part Bane) to add to the fun.

If you boardmail me I'll give you the basics - not necessarily a full build, but I'll tell you where to focus your build for optimal survivability and maximum damage output.
I haven't been able to PvP as much as I'd like to the past couple of months, but I've PvP'd with the same PB on Freedom for over two years now and the build has changed with practically every issue and rule adjustment.
I'll agree with what others have said - PB's have always been hard to kill, and while they might be slightly easier to kill now than they were before, they make up for it with a lot more damage. -
I wouldn't sacrifice Taunt for 'perma'-hasten. The recharge benefit you'd miss out on with less-than-perma would be negligible...but Taunt is pretty valuable when you're the lead Tank.
-
Unless you and the other person specified any 'rules' for your duel, any power you have in your tray is fair game.
-
I'll second the "no" to Assault. My build is pretty tight and I'm running with both the Numina and Miracle uniques and I've slotted for End Red where possible, but I still find the Rage crash and Hasten crash to be pretty formidable in managing End. I couldn't imagine another toggle being added.

Here's the problem -
PvP, mez and other status effects are minimalized so that any AT can deal with them and be competitive. The PB never had to deal with being stunned for any appreciable amount of time (if at all). They probably had in the area of 40% resistance to your attacks...coupled with 2 heals, I'm sure they were a tough out.
Now, in PVE, that same PB would get stunned or held and get taken down in very little time without a number controllers on the team or some other form of outside help. -
So, for example, on TK Thrust (blaster secondary MM)
It comes with a stock 16 mag KB and I max it out for KB...what mag will it be, and is there anything short of outside buffs that a player could use to resist that? -
If you slot for KB on a particular power for PvP purposes, does that affect the distance you KB a foe or does it increase the magnitude of the KB. Or is it both/neither?
Thanks in advance. -
Question on TK Thrust - slot for KB or Damage or...?
-
Hmmm...I think I'll try a couple of sessions with that character as well. The dilemma I think I'll run into with this one is whether or not I respec the build and use all the purple sets I have on it, or make a second build and piece together some new sets.
-
Heh...I remember prior to the damage adjustments when I fought a couple of MM's when I was getting badges on this particular character in RV. I Hit Aim, BU and dropped RoA and PSW on them...everything was dead. I imagine it wouldn't have quite the same effect any more.
I'm wondering if the Lethal damage is just going to be resisted too much. -
Threads like this perpetuate bad stereotypes.
I've PvP'd in this game actively for over two years now (didn't do it much for my first 3 years of play) and the majority of PvP'ers are just there to have a good time. Sure, you get the occassional talker, but most people are pretty good sports about things. This is a a case of the 'bad apple' spoiling the entire bunch. And of course, they're the ones who get attention. -
Thanks for the advice. I took the Fire/Fire for a spin in RV last night. He's specced for AoE/PVE content at the moment, but I was still able to get quite a few kills. The only two single-target powers I had slotted were Fire Blast and Blaze
At any rate, I got beat up on quite a bit, but I was able to score a number of kills as well. I've got a few ideas for my PvP build, but I'm thinking of putting in a couple more sessions with this build to note the relative strengths and weaknesses.
By the way, I also have a Arch/MM Blaster at 50...also not such a commom PvP build. Would I have any luck with that? -
I've PvP'd with a number of different AT's, but it's been a couple of years since I spent any significant time on a Blaster. The game has changed a lot in that time, so I come to you seeking advice.
I have 2 Blasters, a Fire/Fire and an Ice/Ice both level 50. I know that neither of those is what you would call "optimal" for today's PvP, but I'd like to go ahead and convert one of those into a PvP toon. I know that, in particular, neither of those secondaries is among the standard ones used these days, but I always like using something a little different.
So if it were you, what would you go with? Any build and or tactical advice you can give me?
Thanks in advance! -
I can tell you definitively that yes, SS + Stealth IO will render you invisible to NPCs. I've got the same setup on my PB

As to those who said pvp...PB's are SPECTACULAR in pvp if you build them right. Spend most of your time in nova, put some range/Damage HO's and some PVP IO's for plus range and you are looking at 175 ranged single target attacks from nova, doing great damage. Also PB has dull pain and reconstruction as well as phase. You can also get a heal from dwarf form and a strong melee attack if you dare to enter melee.

This. I've seen some very tough PBs in RV. They are harder than hell to kill, with Reconstruction and a DP clone. And that Incandescent Strike deals some pretty good damage from what I've seen. And they get BU.

I have to chime in and agree with the two quoted posts. As a long time PB PvPer (long before the current iteration that could be considered PB's "golden age" of PvP) PBs are by far superior in PvP to WS's.
In fact, I'd say they are right up there with the top AT's hero-side in overall effectiveness and survivability. Sure, you won't kill as quickly as a blaster, but you can pump out some mean damage. If you build it right, you get 3 heals that recharge quickly, you get 2 perma-cycling mini-snipes in Nova and some ancillary powers that help get you through (like Qfly) the rough spots. -
Both sides: Cimerora
Now, don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the ITF. And the wall has been a decent farm spot when I'm bored. But the rest of the zone? There's nothing to it. -
Another fairly inexpensive (relatively speaking) way of getting an additional 5% ranged defense is to slot Red Fortune into your defensive toggles (or 3 if you go with Weave). It also gives you a nice Acc and Rech bonus without breaking the bank.
-
damage resistance is preferable to defense at the moment, especially since the levels of defense youc ould get with a /DA aren't particularly high.
as for overall build advice, i don' thave much, but with cloak of darkness you get a stealth power and increased perception - i'd try to get both that and tactics if you're concerned about upping your perception. -
and against a Tank or Brute that would be roughly 2 seconds, correct?
-
Quick question about Fear powers in PvP now...are they subject to the same limitations as holds and other mezzes? For example, if a Stalker or Scrapper were to use Touch of Fear fully slotted for fear duration against someone who didn't have any mez protection, how long would that individual be feared?
I know mezzes of all varieties aren't what they used to be, just wondering if there is still any use at all for fear powers. -

Also--do set bonuses carry over into Forms? I know Fitness/accolades don't, but do set bonuses?
[/ QUOTE ]
That is a question I'd like to see answered as well. And I did not know accolades didn't count on forms..... live and learn... >.<

Actually, clickable accolade powers are usable (clickable) in both Dwarf and Nova. -
That might be the case on WS's, but not PB's
-
Seems it was an 'issue of time and prioritization'...and some issues with the 'fiction' of the AT.
Kind of leaves the door open for the future...in a Lloyd Christmas kind of way.
