    Yes, greys will drop tips.

I have a few edits left, but the tips will escrow even if the Inf doesn't.
  2. A couple of guides have snuck out of the beta section:

    One other change is needed:

You can have both of those at the same time. Some, like the level badges, or Adventurer change factions with you.

    It depends on the badge.
  4. TL;DR version of this whole post:
    • Defeat level 20+ critters to get a tip.
    • You can do up to 5 tips a day for alignment progress.
    • Each completed tip will give you 1 Fame Point.
    • Each Fame Point fade away after 20 hours.
    • After 10 alignment missions of the same type, defeat level 20+ critters to get a Morality Mission tip to drop. This type of tip drop isn't restricted by the timer.
    • Do the Morality Mission to change or cement your alignment.
    Quick Tips:
    • Pocket D and the Vanguard base in the RWZ are the quickest means to get to the other side's zones.
    • By repeating your current alignment, rogues and vigilantes get bonus reward merits.
    • By repeating your current alignment, heroes and villains get bonus reward merits for the first time they do so. After that they can get 1 Alignment Merit per reinforcement. Alignment Merits can be used to purchase rare recipes (1 or 2 per rare), purple recipes (20-25 per purple recipe), or PVPIO recipes (30-35 per recipe) and other things like respec recipes.
    From the release notes:

    Going Rogue

Going Rogue is a new feature that allows you to change your faction from hero to villain and from villain to hero. Going Rogue allows you to experience both sides of the game content with a single character. It introduces Alignments that allow you to make characters Vigilantes or Rogues and reap the respect and rewards such status brings.

Defeated enemies will now have the chance to drop a Contact Tip. These Contact Tips are similar to our existing contacts except they have a dialog tree attached to the front of it. You can investigate tips by clicking the investigate button. This opens a description of the tip and then leads into a dialog tree where you can choose how you want to act upon this information. All tips will have two flavors to them, either Vigilante for Heroes or Rogue for Villains. Depending on the choice you make with the information you're given, you will receive a specific alignment mission of that flavor. Once the mission is complete, you're another notch closer towards reaching that alignment and the tip is cleared out of the contact window.

Tips will be written as if it was information picked up off of a defeated enemy. For Example: "You found a small torn piece of paper that appears to have some interesting information on it."

You can work on multiple different alignment missions at any given time. After completing a certain amount of Tip missions of a given alignment, a Moral Choice mission us unlocked. This mission is also tied to the drops system. Once you've done enough Alignment Missions to qualify for a Moral Choice mission, the next mission drop will be an alignment drop of that type. This will be a different contact from the normal alignment missions, with the requirements of a certain level of alignment points. These Moral Choice missions are the ones that make the actual, hard switch from one alignment to the next.
    • If the player has reached their maximum task count, a Tip can't be investigated.
    • Heroes turning Vigilante can travel to the Rogue Islands, and villains turning Rogue can travel to Paragon City.
    • Change sides from hero to villain or villain to hero
    • Visit Paragon City or the Rogue Isle and experience the other side of the game content.
    • Players can defeat enemies and collect Tips that they can act, making adjustments to the character's alignment.
    • After a certain amount of alignment missions, a Moral Choice mission drop becomes possible.
    • Earn alignment powers.
What this translates to is the following. Note that these are the most efficient, but not the only ways:
Tips in Paragon (Current alignment -> Fame Points/Tips -> Morality mission / Final alignment):

Tips in the Isles (Current alignment -> Fame Points/Tips -> Morality mission / Final alignment):

Here is a graphic for what alignments can change to what other alignments:

    If you are a hero:
    • You have to complete 10 heroic tip missions + 1 heroic morality mission. This keeps you at heroic status. At this point you can't visit red side only zones.
    • You have to complete 10 vigilante tip missions + 1 vigilante morality mission to access both Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. This takes you to vigilante status.
    If you are a vigilante:
    • You have to do 10 heroic tip missions + 1 heroic morality mission to get full hero status back. At this point you can't visit red side only zones.
    • You can do 10 vigilante tip missions + 1 vigilante morality mission to stay at vigilante status. You can continue to visit all zones, but there are a few badges you can't have until you go full villain (unless you have already been one).
    • You have to do 10 villainous tip missions + 1 villainous morality mission to get full villain status. At this point you can't visit blue side only zones.
    If you are a villain:
    • You have to complete 10 villainous tip missions + 1 villainous morality to access to the Rogue Isles. This keeps you at villain status. At this point you can't visit blue side only zones.
    • You have to complete 10 rogue tip missions + 1 rogue morality mission to access both Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. This takes you to rogue status.
    If you are a rogue:
    • You have to do 10 villainous tip missions + 1 villainous morality mission to get full villain status. At this point you can't visit blue side only zones.
    • You can do 10 rogue tip missions + 1 rogue morality mission to stay at rogue status. You can continue to visit all zones, but there are a few badges you can't have until you go full hero (unless you have already been one).
    • You have to do 10 heroic tip missions + 1 heroic morality mission to get full hero status back. At this point you can't visit red side only zones.
There is how the system breaks down (pun sort of intended).

    What is the Alignment System?
Going Rogue is a new feature that allows you to change your faction from hero to villain and from villain to hero. Going Rogue allows you to experience both sides of the game content with a single character. It introduces Alignments that allow you to make characters Vigilantes or Rogues and reap the respect and rewards such status brings.
    What are the Alignments?
The four alignments are Hero, Vigilante, Villain, and Rogue.
    • Heroes can visit all of Paragon City and uses Influence.
    • Vigilantes can do everything a Hero can, but can also visit the Rogue Isles.
    • Villains can visit all of the Rogue Isles and uses Infamy.
    • Rogues can do everything a Villain can, but can also visit Paragon City.
    What are Contact Tips?
Contact Tips are similar to our existing contacts except they have a dialog tree attached to the front of it.

    What are the Fame Points?
Fame Points show what your last 5 counting tips were. For the first hour, no timer will appear if you hover over a Fame Point. After an hour and up to 19 hours the timer will count up showing that you've been famous for this deed for the amount of time since you have completed the mission. After 19 hours, the timer counts down the last hour telling you that your deed will be forgotten in XX minutes.

Fame points are the task count mentioned in the opening quote.
What is the difference between alignment progress and Fame Points?
Alignment progress is 1-10 in your available alignment choices. Fame Points show you the tips you have completed in the last 20 hours.
How do I get Contact Tips?
Defeated enemies over level 20 will now have the chance to drop a Contact Tip. A Contact Tip drop in Paragon City zones will be either Vigilante or Hero aligned. While in the Rogue Isles the tips will be either Rogue or Villain aligned. Bossess have a higher chance of dropping tips, but even underlings like Rikti Monkeys can drop tips.

Each Contact Tip will randomly drop. If you have done 5 counting tip missions in the last 20 hours you will not get more tips until the timer expires.
    What are Alignment Missions?
You can work on multiple different alignment missions at any given time. Completing Alignment Missions earns you alignment points. Once you've done enough Alignment Missions to qualify for a Moral Choice mission, the next mission drop will be a Morality Mission of that alignment type.
Can I share other players alignment missions?
Yes, any player that hasn't gained 5 Fame Points or hasn't achieved 10/10 for that alignment can get another fame point for that mission. Additionally, the following restrictions apply:
    • Heroes, Rogues, and Vigilantes can share heroic tips.
    • Heroes and Vigilantes can share vigilante tips.
    • Villains, Rogues, and Vigilantes can share villainous tips.
    • Villains and Rogues can share rogue tips.
    What are Morality Missions?
After completing a certain amount of Tip missions of a given alignment, a Moral Choice mission us unlocked. This mission is also tied to the drops system. This will be a different contact from the normal alignment missions, with the requirements of a certain level of alignment points. These Moral Choice missions are the ones that make the actual, hard switch from one alignment to the next.
Can I share other players morality missions?
Yes, just like the alignment missions, but any player that has reached 10/10 for that alignment can choose to switch (or re-affirm) that alignment. Any player that hasn't reached 10/10 gains a fame point towards that alignment.
What happens to my Influence/Infamy when I go to the opposing faction's areas?
It will go change its name from Influence<->Infamy and nothing will be lost.
What are the limitations of the Alignment System?
    • If the player has reached their maximum task count, a Tip can't be investigated.
    • If you visit a co-operative zone and exit to the other faction, you lose all tips and any inactive mission in your list.
    • You lose Super Leader rank in your group if you fully cross over from heroes to villains, or from villains to heroes.
    • You cannot trade between heroic alignments and villainous alignments.
How do I get to the other faction's zones?
You can travel between Paragon City and the Rogue Isles in a few different ways:
    • Pocket D will be the easiest to transfer through.
    • The Vanguard base in the Rikti War Zone.
    • There is a submarine that transfers between Independence Port and Sharkhead Isle. Both these are shown on the minimap.
      • The Independence Port sub is located by the Freedom Corps store in the northwest of the zone.
      • The Sharkhead Isle sub is located just north of Potter's Field, almost directly south of the hospital.
You cannot use the following to zone to the other faction's zones:
    • Ouroborus
    • Bloody Bay
    • Siren's Call
    • Warburg
    • Recluse's Victory
What can I do in the other faction's zones?
You can collect badges, join task/strike forces, trials, do paper missions, do radio missions, use the stores, use the tailors, and use the consignment houses.
    What are the Alignment Powers?
Each time you shift morality or reinforce your morality and keep the same alignment for 7 days, you gain a special power. You can only have one of these powers at a time, and lose the previous one each time you shift morality:
    • Call to Justice
Earned by: Doing the hero morality mission and keeping the same alignment for 7 days.

Description: You inspire your nearby allies to bring justice to your foes. Using this power will moderately increase the damage and to hit of yourself and all nearby allies. Recharge: Very Long

  5. Ok, I'll assume that will be fixed post-launch.

  7. Part 8: Frequently Asked Questions
    Quote:
Can I lose badges if I switch sides?
Where a badge exists for both blue & red, the badge changes factions with you. Once you earn a badge, even a gladiator, you do not lose it. Look at "Part 4: Alignment changes" for these changes.

    Quote:
Speaking of gladiators, what happens to the gladiators that award with level progression or that I've already met the requirements for?
As to the gladiators that award for the 10 level progression (10, 20, 30) badges and the 60 minute CoV mezzed badge you will get the gladiators if you qualify when you switch over. In other words if you are over level 30 and switch sides you get the level 10, 20, and 30 gladiators.

    Quote:
My vigilante/rogue has met the requirements for several badges from the opposite side, why are they not awarded?
With some badges you have to switch fully to the other side to get them.

    Quote:
Can I get both sets of respec badges?
[EDIT] With Issue 20, you can earn all 6 respec badges. Each Respec mission has it's own badge, and if you have previously tried to get the opposite badges, you'll have to do the missions again. [/EDIT]

    Quote:
Are there more Day Job badges to collect?
Heroes can get 6 more Day Job badges from locations that only exist in the Rogue Isles and Villains can get 6 more Day Job badges from locations that only exist in Paragon City and the Shadow Shards. You can get credit for these as a vigilante or rogue, but the badges for these locations will only be granted when you fully switch sides.

    Quote:
    Where are these locations?
As a Vigilante you can earn credit (but not the badge) for:

    • Pilot
    • Crey Employee
    • Arachnos Agent
    • Smuggler
    • Arachnos Official
    • Demagogue

As a Rogue you can earn credit (but not the badge) for:

    • City Official
    • Law Enforcer
    • Commuter
    • Shop Keeper
    • Dimensional Explorer
    • Intern

Any accolades linked with these badges cannot be earned until you are on the appropriate side. In other words 6 x 21 more days of getting day job progress AND the need to fully switch sides.

    Quote:
What happens to the accolades when I switch sides?
If you have one side's version of the following accolades, you will get another when you fully switch:

Portal Jockey Badge <-> Born in Battle Badge
    Archmage Badge <-> Demonic Badge
Geas of the Kind Ones Badge <-> Force of Nature Badge
Conspiracy Theorist Badge <-> Headline Stealer Badge
Freedom Phalanx Reserve Member Badge <-> High Pain Threshold Badge
Task Force Commander Badge <-> Invader Badge
Received the Atlas Medallion Badge <-> Marshal Badge
    Vanguard Badge <-> Megalomaniac Badge

You will get each badge's power. You will not automatically get the prerequisites though.

    Quote:
Cool! Can I have both sets of accolade powers active at the same time or use both sets of click powers?
No, you cannot "double dip" the red & blue accolade powers.

If you are a hero then the villain accolade powers are non-functional (dimmed/greyed out). If you are a villain then the hero accolade powers are non-functional (dimmed/greyed out). If you change alignments later, then you have to swap out the power icons, use a different power tray, or use the available power names in your binds (for the powers that are not automatic).

    Quote:
Can my existing badge character get into Praetoria?
Not at this time. The developers said we will be able to, they just didn't say when. Most likely you'll have to wait until Issue 19.

    Quote:
How many unique badges are there for Praetorians?
Not as many as you'd think at this point.

    • 51 Explore badges
    • 7 explore accolades
    • Denial of Service
    • 6 Defeat badges
  8. Part 7: Settitles
Due to changes in the settitles that seem to happen with each issue, the revamped settitles will be listed here. There might be a few alignment issues, but I think I've found them all.

    Edit:
Most of the settitles have changed.

Still missing as of this posting:
    Nothing.

    Praetor Statues:

Emperor Marcus Cole - Our Mighty and Most Beneficent Leader Look now upon the face of your benefactor. His eyes cast always to the horizon of our collective prosperity, Emperor Marcus Cole bravely stands at the vanguard to vouchsafe our security. - "I call upon you, people of Praetoria, to cast aside all doubt and fear, to carry up your brothers and sisters so that all may stand tall and proud. Hold your head up high and challenge the darkness to cloud our growing dawn, for it is the fires of our righteous cause that shall carry the day."

Praetor Tilman: "Mother" - Mother is here for you. She will keep you safe. As our loving and protective Emperor Marcus Cole is the father of our great nation, so Praetor Tilman is the comforting mother who nurtures her many children: the people of Praetoria for who's welfare she has dedicated her life. - Her piercing gaze sweeps aside the veils of deception that hide the enemies of our glorious nation, securing a lasting peace for all Praetorians. So devoted is she, that she has given to us her daughters, our dedicated Seers, so that impure thoughts are never given a chance to become unlawful deeds.

Praetor Duncan - The pursuit of liberty requires sacrifice. What are you prepared to lose? Our masterful leader Emperor Marcus Cole has taught us that history is one of our greatest tools. A tool we use to build the foundation of our present and the framework of our future. - Praetor Duncan stands as an example of the power of history carrying into the present day, as the daughter of Miss Liberty she bears that proud heritage forward, continuing the tradition of service and sacrifice so that we may all have lives of comfort and safety without fear of destruction at the hand of our implacable enemies.

    Resistance Lessons:

Lesson 1: Don't Believe Your Eyes - Just because it all looks jim-dandy don't mean that's what's really goin' on. You're dreamin', sleepyhead. Wake yer peepers and you'll see that it's not all sunshine, rainbows, and unicorns havin' a tea party.

Lesson 2: Don't Believe Everything You Read - Just because it's on a poster don't make it true. Someone got paid a fat wad of cash to put those words in print. And who was handing over those tasty bucks? Surprise! It's COLE! Read between the lines and you might just see his beady little eyes peeping you a good one right back.

Lesson 3: The Tunnels Are Your Refuge - Did you wake up and see that wonderland ain't all toothy cats and tea parties? Then go follow Alice down the rabbit hole and take a big ol' chomp from a slice of the tasty, tasty truth.

Lesson 4: Your Thoughts Are Not Your Own - Like all that flashy gizmo doodad biotech you see lately? Also like Seers reading your mind? You probably do, since they've been shovin' those thoughts in your scrambled little noggin. Think about that for a for a moment...or can you?

Lesson 5: The Police Are Not Your Protectors - Sticks and stones will break your bones, and so will the boys in blue and gold. They're here to keep you in line, not help you. You're a squealing little piggie and they're the big bad wolf, got it? And they've got the sticks and stones.

Lesson 6: This is the Cage and You're the Guinea Pig - Praetor Berry is the best propeller-head Praetoria has ever seen. And you're the best test subject he's ever seen, too. Welcome to your new life as a technologically assimilated lab mouse, chomper!

Lesson 7: All That Glitters is Not Gold - Like jumpbugging around in a world where the streets are paved with gold? Scratch that surface, chomper, and all that paint crumbles away showin' Cole's mug chortle-snortlin' in your face.

Lesson 8: Behavioral Adjustment = Thought Control - Gotta bugbump in your head and thinking of moseying up to the Behavioral Adjustment Facility for some attitude change? Well, Cole has something in mind for you. Your mind, which he's gonna scamp right out from outta your nose.

Lesson 9: Ghouls = Your Doom - They give you the shivery-wivveries every time you look at them, don't they? It's because you're peeping something that's gonna happen to you if you don't stop Neuron Technology Unlimited. It's unlimited, alright. Can't make a 'perfect' omelet without breaking a few citizens, right?

Lesson 10: There is No Mercy at the Psychiatric Hospital - Want a bowlful of brainbugs to slurp down in the morning? Then head on over to that Hospital and join in with those smilies, the Seers. How's that for a recommended daily serving of mercy for ya?

Lesson 11: You ARE Being Watched - Did you see that person on the street just disappear around the corner? Where do you think they went? Maybe they were following you? Anyone standing around watching you read this right now? Yeah, chomper, you're finally seeing it.

Lesson 12: Don't Drink the Cole-Aid - Got yourself a thirst that needs a-quenching? Chug down a can of Beefy Pop before you even think of slurpin' on that Enriche! Oh yeah!

Lesson 13: The Pen IS Mighty, but Swords Leave a Mark - Papa Vagabond always says 'don't bring a pen to a gunfight.' Words will never hurt you, but bullets sure will make you all Mister Swiss Cheese. So get your own and scamp it up!

Lesson 14: Knowledge is Power - All those Praetors know this, so you're just gettin' the gristly bits while they're mackin' down on a prime cut of Filet McPower. The truth - take a look, it's in a book.

Lesson 15: Be the Revolution - Shut your yaptrap and you'll get pushed outta the way like any other squiggly-zibble. Johnny, get your spine and take it to the Tyrant!

Lesson 16: The Tunnels are a Battleground - Sticking inside stinky shadows is all coolstyle, but you ain't the only chomper down there. Pick on someone your own size and you'll get scamped by anyone. Check your six and you'll be in the pipe five by five, capice?

Lesson 17: Beware Things That Go Bump in the Night - Listen up, boiz and ghouls! That bumpity bumpity you hear all the time in the tunnels? Those are Ghouls who are doublestyle lipsmacking thinkin' about mackin' down a helpin' of Hambone. And that Hambone is you, Flippy!

Lesson 18: Trust No One - Don't read this message, Chomper! There's all kinds of funkamunch that people are hiding, even signs. Use your brain and you won't obey the fnords!

Lesson 19: Look Up Often - Wanna be confusinated all slipperstyle? Then wait for your friendly neighborhood dropbears to pay you a visit, and they ain't bringin' you any tea and cookies! Keep an eye to the pie in the sky or cry and die. Know what I'm sayin'?

Lesson 20: There's Safety in Hubs - If you wanna be a chomper, stick your snout in the ground and hit the Hubs triple. But if you're a scamper, you, too, can be the next contestant on Yooz Gonna Get Blowed Up All Funstyle!

I -hate- these giveaways as all they do is cause frustration.

Empowerment buffs. Craft them then delete the buff. Repeat until bored.

Or do something silly like just be patient and craft & sell stuff on the market. That way you'll be working towards two sets of badges.

Yes, you have to exceed those.

    Damage badges Q.

Any hit points above your base hit points as a tanker are not always counted.
  19. If you can get a team, you'll get more bosses. They might have changed the rules for placement a bit. I checked, the bosses are still there, but not quite as plentiful solo as I remember.
  20. I'll have to disagree with two points.
    1) Those family bosses used to award credit for the badge until some players so abused that mission. When the lower reward versions were put in place, badge credit was left off them.

    2) By far the best place blue side to hunt family bosses is Striga Isle, the west side of the island. You can find 2 to a group even solo.

Closed beta access was sold, plain and simple, to everyone, their dogs, and even their cats who had enough money.

If we just invited everyone who will be eventually invited now, it would be disastrous for the beta program. There is a method folks, please be patient.

Also remember that in order to be eligible for beta, your account has to be in good standing.

People that qualified for the Loyalty Program have been invited as per Skippy Sidekick's post. Any access to the game (including the beta server) is covered by the game's EULA. If a player makes an annoyance of themselves, they can be refused service.

Since you are a member of the "Forum Cartel",I really expected more from you than that snippy, belittling reply.
People come here to ask questions. How would you feel if you were "new" to the game and were attempting to gain knowledge about the game mechanics, only to be told "Stop asking!"
Sorry but IMO your reply was uncalled for. Many have come to rely on your expertise. This seems unbecoming of the majority of your posts.
Yes, I could have said "Anyone that knows, cannot say." My post was rhetorical. Questions like this do get posted a LOT every single closed beta. I was NOT trying to belittle the original poster, and I am sorry if it came across that way. It was more an expression of my exasperation than anything else.

I am more than happy to help out if I can. When it comes to closed betas the best advice I can give is to watch the Dev Digest and the Community Digest as they will be the very best sources of information available. The next best source is the forum section that the question relates to (in this case Badges & Gladiators).

Are you sure that they didn't? Do you have inside knowledge about every person invited to the beta? I can't even begin to guess the selection requirements used to invite people to the betas (past or present). The developers ask the people they choose to ask. They have a reason for who they are inviting.
