Quote:Yes, and in Issue 20 you'll be able to hop into the new trials with the LFG function. With the LFG you'll be able to meet other players all working towards completion. The trials are challenging, but players are able to complete them. Especially on a server like Virtue. Can anyone, please, try to convince me CoH is worth playing again? I've been here for... forever, I guess. I got most of the vet awards, I have a few 50's.... just someone please tell me it's worth it to make new friends. I guess I'll have to leave them, too, eventually.
Additionally, with the one server list (NA & EU servers all accessible), more players will likely be showing up soon. -

It doesn't matter if I'm right or not. It does matter if Beastyle is right though. Why? If Beastyle is wrong, then he shouldn't be a community rep. Did you even bother to look at the linked post? If not, here it is again, but in the announcements section:
Sticky:Grace Period for Seven Years of Super Rewards - Beastyle
Anyone that can directly post in the announcements section carries official information.
If you activated on the 11th, you're good. If you activated on the 15, you don't get it.Quote:I was away since 2009. Reactivated my game on February 11th or 15th. I'm not sure the exact date. Anyways It's my first reactivation since 2009 and haven't stoped/changed the subscription since I returned.
Up to you. If you did subscribe on the 11th, deactivating your account means that you will not get it.
Also you might want to read this from Black Pebble, the marketing brand manager:
Quote:Hello all,
Lots of questions, and I'll do my best to answer what I can.
Vanguard Shield
Yes, the Vanguard Shield is included with the Vanguard Pack.
Vanguard Chest Emblem
This is not included, as it's already a part of the 30 Month Veteran Reward.
Where do the Vanguard costume pieces show up?
At the tailor/character creator screen.
MVAS
It's very, very cute. The art team did a great job in setting up the summoning animation for it. I'll see about getting y'all a picture.
Define Active/Uninterrupted
Let's say your subscription gets renewed on 3/1. This is fine. As long as your account is active each day from 2/1 to 4/18, you're eligible. You'd be ineligible if say, you cancelled your account on 2/28, then waited until 3/1 to turn it back on.
Define Account-Wide
All existing characters, all new characters. Even if you've already unlocked some of these features already. So your L50 Ill/Rad controller that's run 30 mothership raids this month will obviously have the Vanguard hat, but so will your L1 SS/Fire brute you're going to create on June 1st.
What is Account-Wide?- All Vanguard costume pieces that can be purchased via Vanguard Merits in-game today.
- The Vanguard Costume Change Emote.
- All Vanguard weapons customization options that can be purchased via Vanguard Merits in-game today.
- The MVAS non-combat pet.
- The Loyalty emote (and to clarify, technically there are actually 4 of them, one for each alignment. I'm confident the Paragon Wiki folks will figure out their actual names.).
- The "Constant" badge.
- The "Seven Stars" chest emblem.
What that means is, even if you've managed to unlock every single Vanguard item, the one unique reward you'll get is the Vanguard MVAS. And that's just from the Vanguard Pack.
The badge, chest emblem, emotes, are 100% unique for all players.
More answers forthcoming. -
Quote:You have to have an active account from Feb 14th to April 18th. If you have to renew your account it has to be done on the same day (example expires at 10 am, renewed at 6pm) to count as "active".Hi. In order to get the Vanguard as a free reward, we have to have an uninterrupted subscription between February 1st, 2011 (12:01 a.m. EST / 5:01 a.m. GMT / 6:01 CET) and ending April 18th, 2011 (11:59 p.m. EST / 4:59 a.m. GMT / 5:59 CET)
This is what I've read but it's not clear. Do I need to start on February 1st? I just returned from a break and resubcribed on February 17th.
Does it matter as long as I'm subscribed till after April? Please clear my confusion.
The question for you is this: Did you have an active account from Feb 14th-17th? If not, then sorry you don't get it.Quote:We announced last week that the Seven Years of Super Rewards loyalty program would begin on February 1, and end on April 18. But then we thought, "Hey, what good are rewards if everyone can't get a shot at them?" So because some of you might not have seen Tuesday's announcement or received our City of Heroes newsletter, we've set up a grace period of two weeks--which means the loyalty program will officially start on FEBRUARY 14, 2011. Players who keep an unbroken subscription from February 14 (12:01 a.m. EST / 5:01 a.m. GMT) to April 18 (11:59 p.m. EST / 4:59 a.m. GMT) will now earn the Seven Years of Super Rewards...rewards!
So be sure to have an active subscription from February 14th, and enjoy the rewards come April 28th! -
Quote:That, too, has been answered:Is there a version of the Launcher for the Mac yet? If not, will Mac players still be able to get the aura?
Quote:Question 9: I'm on a Mac. Does the NCsoft Launcher work for that?
Answer 9: There will be a Mac OS version of the updated NCsoft Launcher. We will be giving you more information on this as soon as possible.
Question 10: Do I get anything from transitioning over to the NCsoft Launcher early?
Answer 10: As mentioned before, the sooner our PC players start using the NCsoft Launcher, the sooner they will get access to a brand new Wisp aura on your live account. As for our MAC users, you will all get the Wisp aura once the NCsoft Launcher is available for the MAC client. -
Quote:Your statement directly contradicts a redname post:Yeah I found it odd that Wisps don't unlock account-wide. You have to log in with every character to get it and like you said earlier, wouldn't be available for new toons if it isn't part of a future update.
Any existing or new character on your account will have the wisps aura unlocked.Quote: -
Quote:The year should be 4 digits. At the moment I am extremely angry with this whole mess, while I remember my secret word, I am not sure how you fill the date of birth and of course NCSOFT gives you no samples. if your day of birthday is a single number, do you put the single number or you preceed it with a 0? How about year, do you put the last 2 numbers or all 4?

I've added a quick tip section to the top of the guide.

Quote:You will need to contact support to unlock the IP address. After failing to answer my hint questions right on home computer ( blocked account now), I logged into account from work. Looks as though I may have another chance to get into Master Account from there, If I don't mess up again. Question is: If I'm able to login at work, will I then be able to when I get home? Or does the whole IP thing mess it up for me.

Quote:It wouldn't be so bad if the self-rez and rez-other powers (that I didn't list) had uses or could be activated while alive.I understand some people in this game like to use character death as a "viable tactical maneuver" and obviously there's a subset of powers (such as those spelled out by Snow Globe) that make that possible. Also I can see where the no-death Master badges directly prohibit people from exercising those strategies.
I've seen the argument come up a few times, but not often. -
You know, I just had to reset my Linkedin.com Password. It took a minute. I clicked on a link that said I forgot my password, it sent a password reset to my primary email (registered and confirmed), I clicked the link and *poof* my password was updated.

Quote:They really shouldn't let some of their employees post on the internet:I'm curious to know if there is such a person as the head of the security team at NCSoft, or if some random Joe got assigned the job of implementing a FACTA policy or something.

I find it incredibly sad that those responsible for security didn't follow their own advice:Quote:Greetings, all. I'm Scott Jennings, otherwise known as GM Luminary, working with NCsoft's Game Surveillance Unit (GSU). I've been asked to take some time to speak for a bit on the fallout from the war that we've been fighting in our games against real money trading (RMT) companies and others trying to violate your account security, and how you can help in the fight.
We HAVE to use the game account's username/password for this forum (despite player objections, I might add) due to a change implemented by NCsoft/Paragon Studios.Quote:Don't use the same password for your game account that you use on Internet forums. There have been instances of forums that have had their security compromised and the user names and passwords from their system were then used to try to gain access to game accounts. To prevent the possibility of this happening, ensure that you use different passwords for each forum that you frequent. -
Quote:See the following Upper Tier and APP powers:I'm not understanding your POV even after you sorta explained it. Give an example? The only restriction on the previous "Master" formats (pre-Apex/Tin Mage) is that there are no deaths, and no temporary/veteran powers are permitted. There's no other requirement. All your core abilities (primary, secondary, pool powers, epic/ancillaries) remain in effect.
(I mean, I get ticked off that I lose my vet power "Reveal", but woo, big freakin' deal.
It's not like I don't have the maps memorized by now!)

I wanted this in its own post so it wouldn't get lost:
These security changes have had the opposite effect than intended. I am NOT feeling more secure about my account information, I'm feeling less secure due to the new security.
The reasons are:
- It was done in such a ham-fisted manner.
- It is easier for someone to hack my account with a mobile phone than it was for me to gain legitimate access via my computer.
- It took place during a loyalty drive with little warning.
- It treats paying customers as criminals.
- It uses my IP address, which can change.
- It doesn't give me the choice of security questions.
- It is in plain text.
- It didn't show justification for the need.
- It will lock out LOYAL customers that can't provide the "right" information.
-
Quote:Yup... The system is designed by morons.Well, if that's the case, then we have a security system designed by morons. This is not reassuring.
I got the following email after getting the reset:
The stupidity of using the IP Address is just asking for the system to get hacked. It actually makes it easier for someone with a smart phone to hack an account than a legitimate user using a fixed IP address.Quote:Someone at XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX has logged into your NCsoft account XXXXXXX and added the IP to the list of authorized locations for the account. If you did not perform this action, please contact support immediately at support@ncsoft.com. -
Quote:This is because the MoApex and MoTM are not the same type of badge as the MoSTF, MoRSF, MoKhan, MoCuda, or the MoITF.Managed a Master of Apex with no healers or debuffers. Was quite surprised that happened. Failed a second Master of Apex that had two Thermals and a Rad (didn't get Battle Maiden dead in 15).
All I can say is "Bwah?".
Group 1: The MoSTF, MoRSF, MoKhan, MoCuda, or the MoITF = Zero Temp powers, Zero defeats.
Group 2: MoApex and MoTM = Collect 3-4 badges associated with things in the TFm and they don't have to all be collected in the same run.
While I dislike the requirements on one of the badges (Midnight Dodger), I prefer Group 2 over Group 1. -
Quote:For the record, I sent them all the info (master account name, real name, postal address, birthday, 16/17 serial codes attached to my account, UID, and the last 4 digits of the credit card used to start the account). I got the reset. They want all, but if you send them what you can they can still help.
Also, not sure if it will help, but try including the last four of your current card if you remember when you changed it.
I promptly copied the information, as well as screenshots of my serial codes, to a secure thumbdrive with a encrypted hidden partition that I don't keep around my computer.
If anyone else manages to find the thumbdrive, extract the password, and find the appropriate files, then I say they deserve the information as there is nothing I can do to protect myself from them.
I'm paranoid about my security, but at this point this has gone beyond "reasonable". This WILL affect my decision when my renewal comes up as to IF I want to renew or find a new game company that wants my money. At this point, I don't feel that NCsoft really does want my money.Quote:(1) We're not dealing with military secrets here, we're not dealing with social security numbers or bank accounts or credit cards. For some people, the concern about their characters may be as high as their social security numbers or bank accounts or credit cards, and an option to require high security to enter the master account is. For most people, though, it's just an additional senseless hassle. And so the question is, when does the hassle become more than the value of what we're getting?
Black Pebble, Avatea, and Beastyle, please let the management at NCsoft know that the NCsoft brand is now forever tainted in my eyes due to this incident. Instead of inspiring trust, this fiasco has robbed all trust I had towards NCsoft.
The captcha is likely issuing false negatives. While players might actually be entering correct information, the captcha is likely falsely claiming that incorrect information is being sent. This leads me to think that the web programmers are not doing their jobs in making sure of that.
Agreed, it is less secure now than it was before.Quote:(2) It's still simple text. Vulnerable to phishing attempts, vulnerable to keyloggers, potentially vulnerable to traffic watching. Worse, it's presented as "real world information" for which the right answer could be determined through facebook/twitter/other sources. Yes, really security conscious people could provide false answers, but most people AREN'T really security conscious.
Yeah, I recorded my password. I just did it in a secure method. A MORE secure method than NCsoft could ever hope for. Unless the snoop had physical access to the thumbdrive, the access code for the encrypted partition, and desire to go through all that hassle just to get at my game account, I think I'm pretty safe. I don't even have to use a keyboard to copy the responses, so I don't have to worry about a key logger.Quote:(3) You're dealing with humans. Humans really, really, really hate passwords, which is why most passwords are pretty simple and pretty breakable. They have pretty bad memories, and this system is particular finicky (Was it Boston, Boston Parkway, Boston Pkwy, Boston Pkwy.? Did I use caps or not). Barring the minority of people with superior memories, humans respond by writing down passwords giving a single source of failure. One person had them stored in gmail - which doesn't have this level of security.
I can't think of anything really to add to this.Quote:So they're putting paying customers through a lot of hassle that, in the end, will offer little extra security but probably future hassle. There's a term for that. "Bad choice". Particularly since there's always other things people could be doing with their money.
Even though I used the support site (I didn't lock out my IP address), I have to agree. Even if it took a couple days to respond.Quote:BTW, one thing I want to make clear, and I suspect most people in this thread would say the same thing.
Once I got to a real human, the support person was very helpful, acted quickly and professionally in spite of being, I'm sure, under as much stress and frustration as I was. From all the experiences I have NC Soft support, the amount of respect I have for them even exceeds my disapproval and disgust at the brain-dead idiots who pushed this system through without apparently either forethought or concern about the results it has had for the customers.
Resident, you are not actually reading what TerraDraconis is saying.Quote:I encourage you to go to a different computer and authorize. You don't need the game client installed to do this. Maybe the questions will be differnt. log in here, www.ncsoft.com.
Then go reboot your other computer and try again. Try a different browser if you insist on staying on the same computer. I have to use firefox on cohtitan for things to work correctly.
When he signed up for his account, he put in a password, but didn't put in any security questions. However he did put in a password hint line (not a security question).
It probably looked like this:
Enter a password: [_____________]
Re-enter your password: [_____________]
Enter a password hint: [_____________]
NOT THIS:
Enter a security question: [_____________]
Enter the answer to the security question: [_____________]
And what TerraDraconis is saying has happened is that the site is using the password hint field instead of the security question. -
Quote:I can tell you that with my Ice/FF I'm pretty much soft capped in terms of defence with Personal Force Field. Fire, Ice, and AoE (the important stat) are at 92.8%. I can go through the warehouse bombs without worrying that I'll get killed. If I do get hit through the soft cap (and it does happen), I lose about 10% of my health through Personal Force Field and Dispersion Bubble. You mean the impossible to overcome 5% chance to hit? I don't think it would matter that much if it was one huge attack, but if it was an attack like Rain of Fire, then it could be a problem. Have everyone softcap defenses with lucks and hit Director 11 as hard as possible with whatever the team currently has in terms of temp powers might be a good way to have a decent chance defeating him. Of course, you are always subject to the dreaded RNG, but that is to be expected.
The thing is that if one mine goes, the chances are good that 3-10 others will go off at the same time.
The best method I've seen is to defeat him under 1 minute, before the invisible critters start setting mines. It used to be possible to use things like Force Bubbles and pets to keep the mine critters away, but that has since been corrected.
Inserted an important word.Quote:The bombs aren't a DOT effect. They're just a single explosion. I'll warn you though, if the fight lasts more than a minute or two, you'll won't be able to walk around the warehouse without touching the floor. That place will eventually be CARPETED with bombs.
BTW, if it's not a Master attempt, it's pretty entertaining to run down an aisle past 20-30 bombs and watch them all going off behind you.
I agree it is fun to do.
There has been much player debate and no developer comment about the requirements that I know of.Quote:It's worth point out that, since the wiki is updated by the players and not the devs, it could be wrong. Given the amount of information present, we can be certain at any time that SOME of it is wrong.
Also, were we ever told by a redname that the time is actually 15 minutes? Maybe they did datamining and came up with some oddball time like 14 or 17 minutes and that's why people have conflicting reports. -
Quote:As to the bandwagon, I started my post before Tamaki and I was 100% certain of my answer, unlike DarkGob.Sorry, I did not mean to insult you. I only meant to explain why I posted (as opposed to jumping on a bandwagon).Quote:Are you actually insulting me because I wasn't sure about something?
You stated you weren't sure. I was sure and I agreed with you. -

Quote:Fighting on the platform is the only way for the drones to get killed. The War Walkers and clockwork are a triggered ambush on a random player, not the drones. While the Walkers might get stuck, they don't immediately fire on the drones as they much rather attack the players. You may be correct.
The other person was definitely wrong (and apparently a muttonhead). Just as you suggest, someone MUST go up to Blue Steel's dais to advance the mission. It doesn't matter if you use the stairs, the ramp, fly or teleport.
I say you MAY be correct since we didn't see what everyone else was doing at all times. Fighting one of the walkers up on the platform MAY have gotten a drone destroyed. If it happened to get caught in an Orbital Lance radius, that would have done it.
Even if they get stuck, it is possible to keep the drones alive despite getting attacked.
A single orbital lance will not kill a drone, even a deactivated one. I've watched and healed several -- this week. While I wouldn't suggest it, it IS possible to fight at the drones and get both the drone protecting badges. Good timing and plenty of heals will keep the drones safe.Quote:The people expressing certainty without personally checking are the clueless ones. Not saying you fall in this category, but plenty of people are just jumping on the bandwagon (on both sides) and expressing thoroughly uninformed opinions.
As to the bandwagon, I started my post before Tamaki and I was 100% certain of my answer, unlike DarkGob. -
Quote:Correct. Also they do not have to be collected on the same run.It is my understanding that to get the MO badge - it requires you get 3 bages.
Drone protector...making sure none of them die.
Burden Bearer...not activating them - and also protecting them.
Defeat Battle Maiden in 15 minutes (time off the map doesn't count).
This is also entirely correct.Quote:All that said, there is a point in mission after the sewers that a red mission arrow appears...up the stairs.
To get the mission to progress someone has to go up there....at least that is my experience, having lead and gotten the MO badge on several characters.
Going up there doesn't fail. FIGHTING up there is likely to cause a drone to die. Sometimes due to pathing problems that is unavoidable, but there are ways to minimize the potential of drone death.Quote:Tonight I was accused of failing the MO portion because I ran up there to trip the mission advance. I ran immediately down the stairs. Didn't fight up there. Though at least one war walker was fought up there later (after I was blamed).
The people blaming you also fail to realize that you don't need to get every badge on a single run. So if they missed a badge, they can run Apex again to try again for that badge.
No, they are completely wrong.Quote:So is the person correct...just running up the steps and not using the little concrete arc in the middle the reason?
Not only War Walkers, but the other Clockwork will run up there to attack.Quote:Or am I correct in saying that fighting up there got a drone destroyed?
The mission will never advance if someone doesn't go up there.Quote:Also - will the mission advance if someone doesn't go up there?
The people that are spouting this nonsense are clueless. -
Quote:You can use the NCsoft launcher to install the game, but using your disks should speed up the process (depending on how new the disks are).I just installed windows 7 pro (installed over Vista just now)...should I just install the game from my CoH disks from my archives
and not even try to install this mess (links) for right now?
...and will CoH let me do this? I just wanna play the game
Playing the game doesn't require access to your master account if you are currently an active subscriber.
