As noted earlier, sometimes it's family members in your own home.

Unless you consider "In my room" to be "public" somehow.

    [/ QUOTE ]

For starters if you think your family would go around deleting your toons then your family...well they're not all that bright. Secondly why are they in your room bothering your computer? Finally there's a switch user function for PCs that wouldn't require you to log off your account. Try using a password.

Again personal stupidity is no reason not to have a log out to character screen function.

There are ways around every excuse you can throw. I've been playing MMOs since UO and I haven't once had anyone in my own home attempted to delete or even play my toons. Likewise I always switch to user login when I leave the room anyway.

    Learn to use your pc.
  2. Stop playing in public then or take your laptop with you. If you're in a public place and have to leave the pc then just log out. If your mission resets then that's what you get for playing in public.

How is that a good reason for no character select screen?

WoW is by far the largest MMO on the market with people constantly stealing passwords by using keyloggers, yet the character select screen has never been a problem.

There's no good reason not to have a character select screen, What's with all these soloers who play CoH in public anyway?
  3. I'm pretty amazed that people listed their own stupidity as a reason not to have a log out to character screen function.

Is it really so hard to log out completely while in public or around a cat that likes to tap dance on a keyboard? Really?
  4. Good lord are you people still beating this horse?

Everyone in game seems to have moved on. MA was nerfed as hard as it could be and guess what...farming is still going on. Get over it.
  5. I died on a solo mission I designed for squishes. Knives flew out everywhere and did far more than melee damage. I died in 10 seconds.
  6. I just move on to the next mob when someone does that. It's never been a big deal for me.

If anything it makes me laugh that someone would go through such lengths to get a rise out of me in a game.

Open World is a game killer for me. I think it sucks. I hate people that KS. And that is what happeneds in an open world environment.

CoX has an open world. No one uses it, obviously. You are not forced to go into the instanced missions. There is an ENTIRE ZONE (S) you could go explore.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This has been one of my biggest gripes since Everquest. I'm so grateful for the format that games like Mythos (RIP) and now COH have. I think more mmos should have a similar setup as COH. I much prefer finding salvage and recipes off of loot that only I see rather than a random roll on something, or some high lvl on a mount gathering up all the resources in a noob zone....

    [/ QUOTE ]

KSing has been a thing of the past in newer MMOs for a long time now.

Honestly griefing isn't that big a deal anymore.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You must be playing in a different game world than I am, because most current mmos use the same open world content, free for all mob killing, loot rolling, resource gathering formula from one to the next. I was a long time player of Everquest and WoW, I just quit LOTRO cuz of the same bs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Aside from EQ every game you listed has "tagging" for the first hit which eliminates KSing. You hit the mob first and it's yours.

    What's wrong with loot rolling?

Resource gathering is first come first serve. What's the problem?

I don't see how you think CoH eliminated things no other game didn't. WoW has instances too, so does LotRO.

Personally I think instancing is the worst thing to happen to MMOs. Where there used to be interactive community and in game politics there's now just silence because people are teaming in their own private instance.

Instances promote selective interaction which defeats the purpose of being in a MMO to begin with. Being thrust into an online world with tons of other players is the whole point.

I wouldn't trade my EQ days for anything. Teleporting people around and buffing lowbies. Running into people from all over the world just by assisting a player who needed help or happened to run by my team while we were camping.

Camping was so very social and sorely missed by me in online gaming. Being able to zone chat while leveling was also great.

I really don't agree with instancing. If it's your cup of tea that's great, I just don't personally like it. It's almost like playing an offline game.

Druid and get around with shear speed and teleports. I loved traveling in EQ more than any other game. Invisibility also helped any caster travel. So much to see and do regardless of level.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It was all about Bard-speed Aside from the bloody boats I could get anywhere in EQ in no time, plus I learned the layout of the world pretty well. Perhaps that's why I love Travel Powers in CoH so much...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I forgot all about bard lol! That was one of my favorites too. My Vah'Shir(sp?) bard with his giant drum.

My favorite was druid though I just loved wolf form and being able to make my friends levitating, invisible, wolves too.

The only problem with that in WoW is there isn't really anything to explore.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Really? I feel like there's tons to explore in that game. The whole game is littered with little POIs and open-world dungeons that make it really interesting, IMO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well for starters the content scales by level so you're restricted from exploring unless you're ok with dying a lot.

It also has this annoying way of making POI the only reason to go from point A to point B so if you're not in the range for that POI you have no reason to be there.

There's really not much to explore in WoW unless you're the appropriate level for the content there which means you'll end up there to begin with.

Exploration always seems to take a backseat in a lot of games. I think scaling zones by level tends to ruin most chances anyway.

Now in EQ you could really explore. If you were too low there were ways around it and aggro didn't increase just because of your level. Likewise you could also play and Enchanter and go pretty much anywhere or play a Druid and get around with shear speed and teleports. I loved traveling in EQ more than any other game. Invisibility also helped any caster travel. So much to see and do regardless of level.

The one thing I kind of miss about true Open World Environments.....

I can point myself in a random direction and explore. In other games I could spend s couple of hours just walking in one direction and seeing the different landscape. The scale of such an environment is a fun distraction, at least to me.

That being said on Open World would just not work with Travel powers. We move way too fast to really enjoy the details that would be found in such an environment.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That problem is usually solved by making the world bigger.

You can move quickly mounted in WoW for example, but the time it takes to cross a continent is quite the ride. The only problem with that in WoW is there isn't really anything to explore.

I miss games with exploration and hidden items you can only find in particular zones.
  12. I think running into annoying players is part of the beauty of MMOs. Forced interaction, getting to know other players. You can go your entire run in CoH without getting to know one player.

In previous games if you were a griefer your name spread like wildfire and you would pay for it.

In game politics and social functions are pretty much non-existent in CoH. Sure there are some events at Pocket D, but no real major hubs of people just having light conversation. And no I don't mean standing under Atlas in a party using a private chat.

The social aspect is something I haven't seen too much outside of EQ even though WoW does have it somewhat.
  13. This reminds me of when EQ was threatened with losing it's throne as King and everyone claimed that any new game coming out was going to suck.

We all know how that turned out.

I have a feeling Champions will do well and will be a fine game regardless of the naysaying. It doesn't even have to pull from the CoX crowd, there are MANY bored WoW players looking for a new home. Not to mention other games considering how long it's been since a new MMO came out. At the very least a lot of people will try it just because it's new and releasing by itself.

Just look at how many people tried that Sandbox MMO that released at the beginning of the year. I forgot what it's called at this point but a lot of people tried it even though they couldn't even offer a place to purchase the client.

I didn't know the basic juggle had an alternative command, but it sure gets an eyebrow raise from me.
  15. Removing the ability to have capes with boleros is more important.

Aside from the clipping it's awesome. My costume is gonna look so plain after this 'fix'.

    Valentines Event

Are you seriously complaining that you randomly have to pay $10 for something when you don't have to pay for expansions EVER?

I mean you could go play WoW, but you'd have to pay for expansions, card games, plane tickets for a stupid convention, etc just to keep up with the current giveaways/items.

I'll take my $10 CoH items/emotes over the crap other MMORPGs do for money any day of the week.

Are you using your own computer or some campus network? If it's your own then you should be able to unblock it just as easily. If it's a campus network...well there are ways around that too, google is your friend.

Honestly though there are all kinds of internet cafes and free wireless all over the place. Invest in a laptop.
  22. Here goes nothing...time to start patching.
