I don't have a problem hanging Fox News or any news service over shoddy reporting and made up crisis (videogame violence, (se)XBox/Mass Effect nonsense, net neutrality) but I will defend them when they aren't to blame (simply repeating a story from one of the news wires).
I said nothing regarding Fox News or any of their involvement in it. That would have been Rabid Metroid.

The statement I made, which I drew from a news article, refers to the AOL Finance original. The original made several leaps of logic based on, apparently, nothing more than Cap'n Crunch not appearing on the Quaker Oats homepage.

I only stated that it was bad reporting, and it was categorically bad reporting. A more logical progression of events would have been: Reporter notices Cap'n Crunch is no longer on the website, looks up stats that say sales are down, and then MAKES A PHONE CALL to Quaker asking for a statement. And if you wanted to blame the White House trying to educate people about healthy eating habits, you really need to make that connection with statistics rather than assertion. (You can't say the White House killed Cap'n Crunch unless you can back that statement, and not by referring to voluntary industry efforts at educating younguns about healthy food.)

The Fox blog in question is just a link to the full story at Daily Finance, which is the AOL site in question. AOL is the only news organization failing here.

The logical contortions made in that story were pretty bad.

"In places" should not be used as a synonym for "several thousand-page tomes in sequence." Seriously, books six and seven started to wander, and eight, nine and ten were kudzu plotting in need of editing and some mass murder of excess Aes Sedai.

I was done with the series after Crossroads of Twilight, which managed to run in circles and not advance a single plot thread. Perhaps I'll get back to it once Sanderson's done.

    Fair enough.

I would like to point out that Iron Savior's schtick is writing all their albums about a self-aware Atlantean starship that destroys the world before repenting and becoming its defender. In a later album, the Iron Savior meets its creator, another self-aware starship, only this time with psychic powers.

Yes, the story is awesome like that. And it seems a decent fit for where you were headed.

All w/1 in range of Invinc:

    (1) 43% S/L, 37.7% F/C, 37.1% E/N, 36.1% Psi, 18% Psi resist

    Or

    (2) 46.4% S/L, 37.7% F/C, 39.6% E/N, 32.4% Psi, 15% Psi resist

I figure, a single small purple and I'm capped everywhere anyway, and it takes very few extra mobs in Invinc to cap S/L either way. No insps or outside buffs, and w/(1), I need 7 mobs in Invinc to cap all; 6 for (2). I'm leaning towards the (1) for the higher Psi def. Oh, 251% regen either way, and of course perma-DP.
I'd lean towards #2; capping S/L with one in invincibility is really nice and affects about 70% of incoming damage. And being able to softcap psi with a small purple is no mean feat for an invuln tanker. I think that you'd see more benefit out of higher S/L/E/N than the psi defense.

    But that's just me.

And I'd love to take a peek at that build.

    Eh, it's fine.

I haven't built any characters to a S/L softcap lately, so I hadn't looked at those prices.

I'd get rid of the rectified reticles, since those are the most expensive IOS in the build, by far. I wouold change the slotting on FSC and Combustion to use the three cheapest Eradications (and there are three very cheap eradication IOs) and use Multi Strikes to fill the power out, you're going to end up with MUCH better enhancement numbers on the power (I usually use the two triples and the Acc/End from multistrike myself).

To get the S/L def back from the loss of the Rec Rets I would change the Punding Slugfests to Smashing Haymakers. throw 3 thunderstrikes into char on top of the basilisks will get you and extra 2.5% E/N def to more than make up for the loss of the Pounding Slugfests. It would take you down to 15 free slots, but remove around 500 million from the cost of the build.

Side note, one should NEVER use A-merits for steadfast uniques... use the A-Merit for a Kin Combat DDam/End or Dam/Rech and sell it to fund the entire build for this tank...
It was a quick five-minute build. I don't use anything like it myself - I was just offering it as a data point.
  9. I posted that near the time that the movie came out...

    But it's worth the reposting.
  10. Here's a build skeleton that softcaps S/L/E/N/F/C... There are a couple of the Eradications that are a bit pricey, but they can easily be gotten with alignment merits, and the AE to grab the Reactive Armor. Otherwise, it's relatively inexpensive. Likewise, using an A-merit to buy a Steadfast Res/Def should be almost any tanker's first priority.

It's a skeleton - there are 16 slots I haven't even placed, let alone slotted. It should be fairly easy to adapt to any other secondary. For those concerned with Fire Melee having two AoEs - thunderstrikes in an epic blast will cover the defense from that second Eradication set and cheaper, though you'll need six slots instead of three.

It's all about perception. People see bright colors and sugary coating and assume it must be less healthy than other "healthy" cereals. If people actually looked at the nutritional information on the sides of the box they would see that just because something has the name Bran in the title doesn't make it healthy.
    http://www.karlloren.com/diet/p35.htm

Fun facts - by dry weight, Cap'n Crunch with Crunchberries is 43.3% sugar. Raisin Bran is only 29%. Standard Cap'n Crunch is 40%, and Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch is 32%.

Yeah, those brightly colored cereals are pretty lacking in nutritional value.

Also, the sugar content of raisin bran is largely due to the raisins, which contain high levels of fructose. At least it's not high fructose corn syrup.

Me, I usually stick to Cheerios. I let myself get about two boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch a year.

  17. I went through alts in rapid succession early on. I was sharing my account with my brother, and eight slots just did not go very far.

My first character was named Soviet Fury or something along those lines - My gaming group had invented KGB Special Section 8 around the gaming table, specifically in reference to City of Heroes, which was just coming out and not a single one of us was intending to play. She was a martial arts/regen scrapper loosely based on the character Konoko from Oni.

I was up to level three or so when I saw someone standing around the statue of Atlas with a fire sword. I wanted the fire sword, so I immediately logged out and created Comrade Smersh, Inv/Fire tanker, who is still my favorite character to play seven years later.

I remember how much of a grind he was, too. I didn't know any better, so I didn't start taking any fitness powers until level 20. From 20 to 27, I only got passive powers, and was getting quite disillusioned with the character. Fortunately, level 28 brought me Fire Sword Circle, which re-invigorated the character for me.

The only other character on my account that dates back to those early days is King Jones, but he was rerolled from a dark/regen scrapper to a Peacebringer (when I3 launched) and never looked back. Someday I'll level him up to 50...

Yes. Eight fake nemesis. Yes, that's one single spawn. (Plus a warhulk and another fake in the *next* spawn.)

Oh, you know that mission where you try to save the Nemesis defector? The very squishy little ranged aggro monkey? Yeah. That was one of them. Needless to say, that didn't go very well.

I don't think I've ever seen spawns of fakes like these. Two? Sure. Fake and Warhulk? No problem. A spawn full of fakes? You have no *idea* how fun that is.

First time we saw it - team wipe. Didn't help that they bubbled each other.

Second time - the escort mission - we planned on my brute taunting and running to let the others get past. Yeah. Didn't work. NPC decided he wanted to solo the spawn.

Third time wasn't bad - two brutes, a dom and defenders make it a bit easier to separate them (especially when you have room to move.) It was actually rather nice working out a plan of attack that *worked* (and quickly) against them. Still, this is an odd spawn, especially to see several times over (and we've run these missions many times, half to full team, and haven't seen this before.)

Wondering if anyone else is seeing anything similar.
Actually, with a large enough team, that's the way it's supposed to spawn.

I saw that particular spawn shortly after the RWZ went live - one of my splasher screens is a picture that was snapped of my main in the middle of leaping into that spawn.

So, I'll go with working as intended.

Without the Gladiator Armour +3 defense, it still has 45.9% Smashing/Lethal, 44% Fire/Cold, and 42.8% Energy/Negative Energy. Though, you can get it up to 45% Fire/Cold by taking the slot for Gladiator Armour and giving it to Super Jump to get a third Blessing of the Zephyr enhancement.
And swapping out those Devastations in Hurl for more Thunderstrikes nets you 44% Energy/Negative without that Gladiator's Armor.
