.... yeah. Worst "new item" yet.

Quote:http://blog.newsarama.com/2009/08/24...eyond-returns/I would've liked that news if it were about the animated series continuing, or an animated movie release.
Did that ever happen? -
Well since you have the best taunt aura in the game matched up with icicles and the AoE goodness of /fire I say taunt is totally shippable if you know anything about tanking. And seeing you said you wont be doing any hardcore tanking I'd pick hibernate.
-
Well that has yet to be proven. In fact I think we were smarter back then. You know, when Music Television actually played music. We can't even get that right now.
-
That reminds me of the Dark Night replica motorcycle suit you can buy:
-
You know I just realized that they said they prefer action shots for the contest announcement, yet none of these are true action shots. I was a little worried about that seeing my screenshot is just a pose.

Quote:Guess you didn't see the point I was trying to make when I completely understood yours. I respect your opinion, I just don't agree with it and from my point of view it's down right false (<--my point in case you didn't catch that). I understand you don't like the show, but to a lot of people those sketches were great. Good enough that they feel bringing back the show again is worth a shot. When Dave Chappelle did it, it was funny. When Miscellaneous Wayan did it, it was annoying. Sometimes two different people can tell the same joke and only one of them will be funny. That's kind of the point I was making with my previous post.
BTW his name is Damon Wayne. Hes a hilarious standup artist and had a rather successful sitcom. His movie career was crap (except maybe the last boyscout), but hes a funny dude. -
Now lets see if they let Beavis say "Fire fire fire!" again. I remember when he stopped saying it because some kid burned his house down and claimed Beavis made him do it...
-
Quote:In my opinion ILC did it extremely well and is one of the best sketch type shows of all time. You mentioned Dave Chappelle and one of his influences was ILC. He even borrowed some ideas from them. Remember the drug addict Tyrone from the Chappelle show:Are you comparing the Stooges to ILC?
Monty Python dips into the juvenile and crass humour as well. Doing that well is no simple task. ILC almost invariably did it poorly. Mike Myers tends to do it poorly. Robin Williams and Bob Saget regularly fail at it in their stand-up. Meanwhile, Monty Python, Benny Hill, occasionally Mel Brooks, and even Dave Chappelle often use such devices well. Is it delivery? Timing? Wit? Subtlety? Beats me.
In living color did it first with Anton the drunk:
A lot of people like that type of humor. It was a hit show for a reason. To each their own I guess. -
Looks like these guys have some good taste so far.

Quote:See were different people because when I read "Booger booger fart butt!" I chuckled a bit.Eh. To me, people that acted like that were put in "special needs" classes, not called "comedians." I don't find acting like a hyped up four year old funny.
I find Eddie Izzard funny. I find most of Monty Python's sketches funny. I don't find "Booger booger fart butt!" level humor funny - didn't when I was a kid, either - and Jim Carrey seemed to not want to get past that. Every time I tried watching ILC, it seemed they, and he were at that level... so, yeah. For Jim Carrey, it's worse, since he's shown (again, Truman Show) he can do *SO* much better. He could be brilliant - but he wants to keep being the fool. -
I love the guy. Ace Ventura 1 and 2 are hilarious. Dumb and Dumber is a classic. And how can you not like Me Myself and Irene? Granted the last thing that he did that I liked was Bruce Almighty and that was years ago, but I love the guys wacky acting style.

I can also confirm that emails have been sent. I got mine yesterday. This was my submission, my fire brute Beast Burner:

Quote:I think this thread shows that a lot of us here (as well as this thread) think $6 is too much to ask for a largely useless costume power. Its a purely aesthetic option that has no benefit or even the ability to be customized.ou can't really fault Paragon Studios. They are a company in the business to make money. If enough people are willing to buy these things for $6 that's exactly what they'll charge for it, even if there are a number of people like you who think it's too much. *shrugs*
Sure they want to make money, but I bet they would have made a lot more if it were say $6 for the set of three and not just one. That seems to be a fair price in my eyes. They are neat, just not 6 dollars worth of neat.
But hey, if they can get people to pay that price more power to them. I'm just not going to be one of those people. I got a few of the codes for free so I'm content with them. -
Quote:Just because some people are crazy enough to pay 50 bucks doesnt make the 6 dollar price tag look better to me. I wouldn't pay more than 2 bucks each for these. Now if they were costume bundles I'd gladly pay $10 per set.I understand why some people might consider $6 for these former convention hand-out costumes to be too expensive. But considering that I've seen these codes going for as much as $50 on eBay I'd think being able to pay only $6 directly to Paragon Studios is a much better alternative. *shrugs*
-
These costumes are neat, but I would never pay for them. If they were costume bundles I'd buy everyone right this second "hint hint".

Travel suppression had one significant change for zone PvP, besides making it suck. It forced almost everyone to take either phase or hibernate if they want to compete. If making phase damn near mandatory for zone PvP was the goal of TS, it was a success. Now if I want to escape I just pop phase and run rather than use my head and figure out a way to escape using the terrain to my advantage. Much more boring, less options for the player and very annoying. TS is fail all over.
I can see why they added HD because a skilled emp or therm were damn near invincible without a good team on your side. But then again you have to think, people had to use team work to get the job done in a team based MMO? Go figure... -
Quote:Its far from hyperbole. How long were they giving them out on the forums? It was a long time (months and months) because I managed to get every single costume code they had at the time. At first it was several codes a day for weeks. It was a mad dash for a list of codes posted. First to claim won. Then they had the 3 separate contests (word find, screenshot, and another...) when there were giving out 3 codes a week. During the CoH: Freedom opening event they were giving them out like there was no tomorrow. Like I said at least 30 were handed out. Then before that they were doing server testing and inviting people to come over and test the server stability. During that they gave out at least 20 or so costume codes per test. And they had around 1-2 tests per week that lasted a few weeks. They also give them out as prizes for various PvP events. I saw some go out on Ustream and various online radio shows ect ect ect. You have regular opportunities to get the codes through contests and events not to mention meeting and conventions. While they might hand out a few of these special codes during contests and when the Devs make their infrequent appearances online I would hardly consider that to be a consistent or reliable source for the average player to get those codes. Your hyperbole that they "give them out all the time" is just about the equivalent of saying something like "people get struck by lightning all the time". Sure it happens, but it's hardly an "all the time" occurrence.
Also it's generally accepted that maybe at best 10% of the players of this game even read these forums much less post to them. Having codes that you can get via a few one-time handouts here a year or so ago is hardly a wide-spread distribution by any stretch of the imagination. I've been a fairly regular forum poster here for the last 7+ years and the handouts you spoke of happened maybe 2 or 3 times in total.
Anyway you didn't really offer any reason why these codes should not be something they could eventually sell in the Market. I think it would be a nice gesture for the 99.9% of the player population who would otherwise have no realistic chance to get these items.
I'm not against selling them in the p.market, but it is cool having something exclusive for them to give away from time to time. -
Quote:It is? I remember it only coming out the back of the attack on my ice/elec blaster. But then again the last time I played that toon was i12. With that being said it really can go either way. I'd rather have pbaoe sets to be honest though... for obvious reasons.Thunderstrike is like a melee fireball. You target an enemy, and then it does splash damage in a radius around them. It's not a cone like Golden Dragonfly. However, Thunderstrike is still a melee attack and takes (and always has taken) PBAoE sets. Spinning Strike is almost an exact clone of Thunderstrike, except it doesn't do bonus damage to the main target.
-
Quote:First I have to know how this power works. Is it actually a cone? Does the attack hit a target and "explode" hitting enemies around it like a typical TAoE? Or does it kind of spit out the back of the attack like thunderstrike or golden dragonfly?A ranged attack that happens to have the exact same range as all melee attacks? Sounds more like a melee attack to me.
An you know, melee cones need a target, should they use targeted AoE sets too?
If its a cone or like thunderstrike, yes it should get pbaoe sets. If the attack works like a melee fireball then I think the taoe sets should stay. -
Quote:Thats not true at all. They give those out all of the time. I know for a fact that they gave out over 30 codes at a costume contests a few weeks ago on the exalted server (I got my hands on one), and a year or so ago they gave out codes every week on these forums. They seem to use them as goodies to give out when they have events and contests. The costumes you're talking about were available during the various Halloween events. What I'm talking about are the special ones that were only available via the codes they've passed out during conventions or other meet-n-greets. Those codes have never been available any other way.
As far as the costume parts go, I can see them unlocking holiday event costume parts since they are only available once a year. Stuff like roman armor should stay as a unlock IMO. If we want costume parts for theme ideas, then I'm for making new costume parts. Why not ad some new roman costume items and sell them for a fee rather than port a existing set over to buy? I don't know about you, but I'd rather have new costume parts. -

Quote:Yeah, its only 2 hats for 80 points:Spotted a couple firefighter hats for sale on the beta server just now, things that end up there on patch day have thus far made it into the market when servers come up.
<Insert CoH Freedom is TF2/City of Hats joke here>
I can see people with the right theme loving these though.
