Had no problems with my launcher, and still checks for updates.
-
Just tried it, not bad but not great either, thing that did worry me was that it had less players than CoH (that can't be good), don't fancy getting into another game for it to fold.
-
DK, others have had problems like this, try putting the game into windowed mode via Graphics section, worked a treat for me.

How many different ways do you want to kill an Orc?
-
Even if I wasn't mad at NCsoft I doubt I would want to play GW2 anyway.
I went to my local Game store to see what was on offer now and saw 32 different Fantasy RPG games, 1 super-hero based game, 5 Football type games and misc. /e, sarcasm, Going to go out on a limb here and say GW2 was most definitely what gamers needed. -
Although Paragon Studios have informed us the servers will be shut down, it really wasn't their place to do so (I thank them for that). I pay NCsoft for my service to this game, and I am a NCsoft customer and yet as a customer I still haven't been informed by them that they are cancelling my subscription due to shutting the game down. That is very poor, each and everyone should have been informed via E-mail the day after they had come up with decision, we are at almost a week now, and still not heard anything. Yeah NCsoft does not do themselves any favours or the studios they are publishing for.
-
Think that would just be rubbing salt in the wound.
People paid in Cash, they have a right to that if a service is cancelled. -
Quote:I still haven't decided once the servers have shut down whether or not I can bring myself to Un-install CoH from my computer. In the given situation, and the level of emotional distress people have, any rationalization of the action is going to look like defense of the action. There is one poster in particular that is doing it in multiple threads. I note in one of them that they may not intend it, but it comes off as defending NCSoft.
I am all about freedom of posting, however I do feel that right now posting in a way that appears to be defending (even if it isn't intended) may be in bad taste. With this level of emotion people are going to take it that way, and snap.
I am glad I was out of town the first few days, and had a really slow connection that was unstable. I couldn't post, and that is a good thing looking back on it. There is no telling what I would have said.
As long as people understand that anything that comes off as defense is going to cause arguments, cool with me. Just don't be shocked when you post something positive, or not negative, about NCSoft people attack. It is just the nature of things right now.
People are really hurt right now. As much by the their fear of the death of the community, as the murder of the game. When something someone loves dies there is grief, when it is murdered/killed there is grief and anger. What we are seeing on the boards is a combination of the two. In this case NCSoft is the murder in the eyes of many people. People just don't want anything positive to be said about the murder. I really don't see this changing any time soon.
My shortcut desktop icon, has been a perminent feature on this computer, and is a welcoming sight when I switch the comp on. -
Quote:MMO's are addictive especially when you particularly enjoy one in specific, for me now a publisher welds to much power with your addiction. It is also fair to note that not just CoH players are planning on Boycotting NCSoft for this move. There are posters on the WoW boards, and the D3 boards saying the same thing.
This was just flat out a crappy move, and I hate ArenaNet is caught in the crossfire between unhappy consumers, and NCSoft. That is how it works sometimes though.
Any new MMO that I purchase will have to be vetted for which publisher publishes it, I will take no more chances with getting addicted to a game to have it pulled from beneath me without warning.
I don't blame people for looking at NCsoft in a different way now, I also think game designers will also take a 2nd look at NCsoft before approaching them to publish their games for them.
This has been a big mistake by NCsoft and I feel sorry for the companies that are associated with them, but I won't take a risk in investing time and money into games that are published by them any more.
I live by a certain rule
Burn me once, shame on you
Burn me twice, shame on me
Burn me thrice, bend over and take it and stop crying like a baby, I have no time for people who don't take notice of the previous times. -
Quote:They must have a CoH 2 in development somewhere, I would regard CoH as much more of a success than GW1. Now if the first one can last eight years there's no telling how long a 2nd would. One of the things that irks me is this: GW2 is a dazzlingly beautiful game.
WHY DID WE NOT GET AN EQUALLY BEAUTIFUL COX2??!! Can you imagine CoX redone like that! God, what a game that would be, at least visually. I guess we just were not worth it or something.....?
I am very torn right now. I think I may DL a GW2 trial and see how it goes. Nothing else I tried so far is working out, and Secret World makes me nervous. That game is not doing well *at all*. I dont want the rug yanked out from under me AGAIN a year or so from now; I have shed enough tears so far over losing my online community, and I'm not done shedding them yet.
I can say that I would be VASTLY more willing to show my financial support for GW2 if CoX could be saved somehow. That would be a fine "thank you!" from me. I could find it in me to play two games. I prefer a more sci-fi feel to things of course, but there is no denying that visually, GW2 is a knockout. -
Can be but one song for me, the words and tone of the song are particularly poignant at this moment in time.

Into the night
Desperate and broken
The sound of a fight
Father has spoken
We were the kings and queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the children of a lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell
Heaven and Hell
Into your eyes
Hopeless and taken
We stole our new lives
Through blood and pain
In defense of our dreams
In defense of our dreams
We were the Kings and Queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the Children of a lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell
Heaven and Hell
The age of man is over
A darkness comes and all
These lessons that we learned here
Have only just begun
We were the Kings and Queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the Children of a Lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell
We are the Kings
We are the Queens
We are the Kings
We are the Queens
And a Song for all the friends I will miss

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of the storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver
Song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams
Be tossed and blown.
Walk on
Walk on
With hope in your hearts
I And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone.
Walk on
Walk on -
Not thinking much of their Core Values either.

They may have had no choice but NCsoft have done no favours to the MMO genre, the lack of trust I show towards MMO's will not allow me to subscribe again. They have cast a big black cloud above the MMO industry and now most pro gamers will be looking over their shoulder before investing a long length of time into a specific game with the prospect of something like this looming over them.

One thing going for City of Heroes at the moment, it's never had such good advertisement. Since I brought the game 7 years ago I don't think CoH has been plastered so much over the internet as it is now. That must be a good selling point?
-
Make a City of Heroes 2 Trailer, get the ball rolling so to say
-
None, Thinking of taking up body building. Figured if I spent as much time in the gym as I did playing CoH I'd look like Arnold Schwarznegger come New Years Eve.
-
It's not the game itself I have an issue with, it's a game that could be dropped like a bad smell at any moment if NCsoft feel it's not making enough money or they bring out a new shiny they love more. Have no interest in having my hard earned time wasted by people who couldn't give a monkeys and the only time they notice you is when they are wiping you off the bottom of their shoe..
-
I am ashamed to admit that I purchased GW2 2 days before the news filtered through.
Can someone please direct me to the highest building in the UK, that throwing a game box over the side would not result in injury to someone down below. -
Quote:I think a lot of people in the EU have seen first hand how NCsoft deal with their customers, especially in this game in the past 5 years, all the letter writing and e-mails didn't help us the past 2 times. You can't really blame some for being sceptical..
Judging by the "EU" in your name I'm assuming you're from Europe? This is by no means my $#*tting you guys, just an observation, but it seems a lot of those saying "don't bother, they'll never go for it" or something similar in other threads are from that region. I don't know how it works on that side of the globe, but in the U.S., letter-writing campaigns actually can influence decisions made by companies. The obvious example is Star Trek, which was saved TWICE by letter-writing campaigns; once to save the original series, and the second time gave Enterprise a 4th season. A letter-writing campaign
They don't always work, in fact most times they probably don't, but that's no reason to NOT try. I've never understood the mentality that because something is an attempt in futility means it shouldn't be attempted at all.
Quinch, whether it works or not, thanks for the attempt!
But please don't paint all of us with the same brush, I will do whatever it takes to keep this game going, and any thoughts of saying "told you so" go right out the window now as for once everyone is in the same boat and we all want to see the game continue. -
Quote:The only reason I went with that monitor was because it was the only one that had 120hz (which is suppose to be the new big thing with regards to monitors).Monitors: NEW! BenQ XL2410T 23.6" LED 3D
That is just a TN display and fairly low end compared to the rest of your rig. Try this for a monitor, a Dell 30" IPS display. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...ynote_irrank=0
Now you can play the game on a 30" 2560x1600 IPS display and not on a 24" TN 1920x1080 display.
Apparently 120hz minimises flicker, frame lag etc. most of which isn't actually visible to the naked eye but still nice to have.

Thanks very much Hyperstrike for your input, will take a lot of that into consideration.
