'Mike, pull out the horse carcass, we're going to need it again'
Seriously, though, welcome to the game. As others have said, the OP states possibly what can be considered the classic roles, and some people get very upset when they're not followed.
As a personal note, it's one of the main reasons I left Paragon to go Rogue - I got sick of a team 'needing' the magic of tank-damage-healer. Villain A/T don't follow this as much (although many people play villains in this way and expect a team to function in this way, which usually results in me being told on my Corruptors or MMs not to 'steal aggro'). -

I have no complaints about i16, but I'm also not creaming myself about it (which makes me officially the only player and forumite to be in that category, it seems). I'm very indifferent about it - I don't even care enough to complain.

LOL - no, I'm normally a very passionate person who speaks out about issues, particuarly game-related (maybe that's why I have so few entries on my friends list....). Just nothing about i16 'grabs me'. I shan't explain why, as I can't be bothered and everyone's all hyped up about it and I don't want to bring the mood down (after all the negativity that AE has generated on the forums the last thing I want is to bring the atmosphere down about something that seems to be bringing a lot of positivity to the forums).
I will say, on a positive note (not that it is i16 related) that as a massive MM fan I am very excited about Demon Summoning. Now THAT I could rave about at length like a little 1 month noob -

At this stage, I'll be leaving my characters as they are. Who knows, though, I may change my mind once i16 goes live.
-
I must admit that I would have liked a power to be thrown in, but I am happy to pay $AU12 for the height and gender change ability. That being said, I'm not happy to pay this amount for the Wedding Pack because although it's also all costumes and emotes, it's not attractive enough for me (I can say the same about purchasing respec tokens....).
I'll happily pay for a booster if I feel its features are sufficient to warrant handing over my card details, as I do feel that over the past nearly 3 years I've got a lot of content and feature updates for my basic subscription charge. -
The RMT must be beside themselves with this news...
Footnotes....
<Yes, I know this new functionality will have positive, non-farming uses - I'll certainly be using it in just such a way with a friend as we often complain that the duo spawn is too easy for us to kill - but the majority of its use will most certainly be farming>
<As has been said, this should clean up b/cast - at least this will be a positive change in-game. Hell, b/cast chat may be dead once i16 goes live> -
I won't care - I probably won't be able to get into Freedom anyway
Seriously, though, I really won't care. AE (farms) don't need DXP and the non-AE content (particularly with mission end bonus) may actually go somewhere near the xp/min rate, which may get people out to run the content. I say whichever way it goes the only complaints should be the 'I can't get on...' ones... -
While I'd love for you to get the information you're seeking, I doubt the company would release it. We might, however, get an approximation (or you might get a PM). I really don't see them handing out details on this sort of stuff publicly (as I'd consider it commercial in confidence), but I'd happy to be proven wrong.

I'm sorry, but I don't get people like that. Don't they read? Didn't they do the tutorial that explained how contacts work, how enhancements and combining enhancements work, and all that?
If they didn't, then it's on their own heads; the MA has nothing to do with that. The normal content is not hidden. If one does the tutorial, it's all pretty obvious.
There comes a point when personal responsibility and taking the time to actually see what the game does comes into play.
And do we really need yet another thread on this topic? What's wrong with the other "New player experience" thread that is already hashing over just this?

They see the endless broadcasts in Atlas for teams forming and join them. Getting sucked into AE farms where they level fast and have no clue how the game works. ::sigh::
Best solution isn't removing the AE but instead removing it from Atlas, Galaxy, Kings row, Mercy, and Port Oaks. And having the auto contact to the AE bumped up to happen around level 15 - 20. That way those who want to can still make their way to an AE to play but it doesn't automatically suck new players in until they have learned there is more to the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not to be argumentative, but the removal of AE from Mercy and PO wouldn't change much (not that I'm against the idea). Anyone with an SG invite (and they aren't hard to get) and a base with tp units can get to Cap easily. To prove this point, I've seen more than one level 1-10 character in Cap forming an AE farm.
The solution to the issue of the 'City of AE/MA mentality' is not in any way any easy one (as has been discussed ad nauseum on these forums).
The horse has well and truly bolted and taken the barn with it... -

I admit I can be hardline sometimes about my views, but at the same time, thats because I've tried less hardline talking it out, and usually all I get back out of it is regurgitated posts on how I'm wrong and theyre definitely right. After a bit you get fed up.
[/ QUOTE ]
As mentioned, I wasn't trying to paint you the villain (pun intended), but simply to point out that this topic has caused so much division and angst that people are saying things like "you are a loser" to other forumites.
I actually find that incredibly disheartening, and even more so I see that reflected in-game more than I used to. Just because I perceive your argument as 'right' or 'wrong' doesn't mean it is, and doesn't make you deserve any less respect that I expect to be shown. -

Stop being so goddamned "with us or against us" mentality about it .
[/ QUOTE ]
I love the delicious irony of this statement, as I've seen this person post just as hard-nose comments in defence of the AE/MA system.
Oh, and don't think I am commenting on one person (as I have nothing against this forum regular) - it's rare to find a 'live and let live' post where AE/MA is concerned.
One thing is clear (and I don't think can be argued) - this module has changed the game forever. It's an individual's choice to consider it healthy or unhealthy.
I consider the way players have used it to have had an extremely unhealthy effect on the game (on more than one level). However, that doesn't make me 'right' any more than anyone can say I am 'wrong' (even though knowing these forums someone will). -

... the farm teams are now TEAMS. Doorsitting appears to be a thing of the past. Interesting!
[/ QUOTE ]
If the team wants the most efficient route, yes, it's a team endeavour.
However, many more times than not, it's more a case of the TL going afk after the first mob, or the Brute not having Taunt or a bunch of under level 20s fighting 54 bosses. The results are inevitable (including the rad/kin/pain dom being blamed because they didn't heal well enough when it's damn obvious the team was never going to work with lowbies and/or afk'ers)...
As a side note, I was amused when yesterday I was criticised for being afk outside the mission (before it started - RL intervened and I didn't have time to tell the team) - why I was amused is that I never go afk in a mission without a damn good reason, but I have been on tons of teams (both AE and non-AE) where ppl have gone afk for whole missions without saying anything and the whole team lets that go without comment.
Anyway, in summary - yes, AE farms are different from PI/GV farms due to the fact that there shouldn't be any need for anyone doorsitting or afk'ing the whole run, but I can assure you, it happens all the time. -
My local game shop can get game cards in, but it works out more expensive than paying via CC (even with conversion from the greenback to Aus dollars).
If I find any stockists (that don't have to order them in - maybe GR's release will cause more interest in Australia/NZ?) I'll post details. -
However, to get back to the point of the OP, it is tedius after the first few characters. Still, I find it does teach me about the powerset combo - I just ignore the content (that I've done to death).

that in order to get a new toon to the point where it's as fun to play as my high level toons I have to invest 2-20 hours of gameplay. It really sucks.
[/ QUOTE ]
This more than anything still amazes me (not that I'm saying it's untrue - post i14, it's very true...). I'm not trying to make yet another anti-farm post - I simply find it fascinating that the game has got to a point where the amount of hours it takes from 1 to 50 is 1 to 20 hours instead of the MUCH greater number it (still) is outside of a farm... -
I agree with 37, but even if I didn't, I wouldn't have a clue how to make a farming mission using AE, or what they are called etc.
I'm sure in-game you'll have no difficulty getting on a AE farm with either character. -
Aw, thank you
I always worry when using text-based communication - it's often so difficult to detect tone. -
BTW, I wasn't trying to be snide in my last post, even though reading it back it might seem like it
-
Most people in-game who have this objective use MA/AE or PL the old fashioned way
-
[ QUOTE ]
ignoring the farming nonsense, we also have patrol exp, while not exactly double exp, if you play a rotating roster of alts, that can push your leveling pretty fast too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Whilst I disagree with the 'nonsense' comment (to me, it's a legitimate reason not to have double xp weekends), I agree with your comment as yet another reason not to have double xp weekends. -
[ QUOTE ]
Anyway, I agree that we'll most likely never see another double xp weekend due to i14 changing the game environment so drastically. People are already powerlevelling quickly enough and devs have already expressed their discontent for powerlevelling.
[/ QUOTE ]
And this is my point
<Scotty, you can put away the horse now, I don't think she's going to be needed> -
[ QUOTE ]
Fast leveling and an "individual" with the I don't read the fuggin manual syndrome are not mutually inclusive.
[/ QUOTE ]
100% agree. This was the case before i14.
I have a whole page of stupidity post i14, and I've been slack in my record-keeping. I never felt the need before i14, as the occurences weren't that frequent.
My point is that before i14, even though power-levelling happened, it was generally in SGs etc and the tutoring often happened in the SG (things like slotting, zones, tailors, etc). Now, I could create a new account, create a character and never leave MA and still reach 50 in record time. I wouldn't have to join an SG or a non-MA team to do that. I wouldn't have to fight anything but custom mobs. And I would then enter the non-MA parts of the Co* universe with four travel powers....
Yes, ignorant players have always been around. I just don't think we need a double xp weekend in addition to MA to accelerate the levelling of characters. These are not explicitly linked (that is, one means the other must exist, and at a constant ratio), but there is a definite relationship to ignorance and power-levelling of new players (cue the dead horse and prepare it for the obligatory beating...). -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
If you don't farm, more power to you. But honestly, the only advantage that double xp gave was faster levelling. And, well, I'm not a genius, but an all-boss MA single mission arc with custom mobs on an outdoor map is not designed to teach you the lore of Co*, and there's a ton of these it seems (and as much as they're pulled, more seem to replace them as is evidenced by the broadcast chat in AP or Cap).
[/ QUOTE ]
That's to assume that every player should find the lore of the game as something that's incentive for them to play or enjoy the game as opposed to just wanting some action and beating up stuff.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm starting to think that Co* character creation screen should just boost a character to 50 (or at a Tailor) - it seems that would make a lot of people happy (and have the wonderful effect of nullifying farming debates).
Anyway, back on topic - my use of the word lore was perhaps misplaced. What I was trying to say is that there are multiple zones in the Rogue Isles (and Paragon City) - these, apart from Cap and AP, are basically dead now. That's not about people exploring the lore of the game - it's about people being in AE/MA, as that's where the 'action' is. The broadcast chat is enough to prove that.
That still doesn't provide an argument for another double xp weekend - it just means that I should phrase myself more carefully when using forums. -
Put simply, my argument is the redundancy of double xp in the current game - when I get a lvl 50 VEAT asking me questions that I found answers to in my first month of playing nearly 3 years ago, this game DOES NOT need faster levelling...
