Post-ED, there's no place like moan
But back to the sci-fi fantasy thing - I could see there might be some who'd have a problem if we were going back in tiem and fighing totally unrealted threats to the present day - but by making present day villains travel back in time, it helps keep the continuity of the larger battle.
If Nemesis went back to the Middle Ages, he'd be like a wizard-knight or an alchemist-knight to the people of that time - but for us, he'd still be the AV we've been fighing in the present.
If you take on time-travelling, dimension-hopping supervillains, you should be prepared fopr the fact that some of your fights may not take place in a modern-day Ameircan city
[/ QUOTE ]
Yea Kang travelled the boundries of time plenty and I kinda see him as nemesis (probably brothers) but I'm on the same wavelength prefer some sort of rich background story rather than "lets go back in time and stop the naughty black knight"...(if the naughty black night was black scorpion then fair do's). -

- X-Men's "Days of the Future past" one of the greatest sagas in Marvel mutant-verse. And it's repercussions are still rippling now several years later...
On the other hand, the line that distinguishes science-fiction and Fantasy is very thin and, on occasions, subjective. I say without shadow of doubt that the original Star Wars saga is more of a typical Fantasy story that a science-fiction one.
Burn me as an heretic, but it is.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah yea forgot about on of the best x-men saga's!!!
I completely agree with the Star Wars comment too, probably one of the reasons I love Star Wars but not fussed about other big sci-fi titles. -

Thats a good point, but we are talking about the mythology here. It may have a bearing but it has no place in a modern setting. It should have remained a myth.

But superheroes and time travel go together - it's a major source of plots and retcons
I'm hoping for a lot more non-modern zones we can travel to - like the Middle Ages or ancient Egyptian - stuff like the pyramids are just asking for a visit - it could be in a zone with the sphinx, and a temple and some of those tombs cut into the rocks.
Or a medieval place with a castle and a town and a forest to explore.
If a villain could time travel, then it's only logical that he would try and alter history to help him in the present - it's what villains do
The game is a sci-fi fantasy, where mythological people and creatures exist alongside modern and futuristic people and creatures, and as time travel is a well-established part of the game, it makes sense to visit periods where there is a lot of strong mythology, like the Greeks and Romans, or Egypt or medieval times.
And don't forget, the costume creator has given us plenty of knights and witches and Egyptian priests and priestesses running around in a modern city - they must have gotten here somehow - it'd be nice forn them to visit home again

Over the many years and now several hundred comics that I have collect I can not once re-call a contemporary story line that ever had time travel with in it. Please if you could point one out I would appreciate it.
Further one of the main attractions of this game is that it is firmly entrenched in science fiction NOT fantasy. The very thought of blurring these lines sends shivers through me. These super-cala-fragalistic fatasmagorical flights of fantasy dilute the core of this game and should be left well alone I thank you!!
[/ QUOTE ]
I disagree, one of the main pulls to this game for me was the fact you could have both fantasy and sci-fi aspects to the game...my alts show this considering I've got a robot, minotaur, orc, elf, vampire, werewolf, robotic suit and contemporary characters!
As for time travelling storylines, the Avengers have done a few...I'd go dig out them out and quote the exact issues but i can't be bothered -

As a history boy I'd love that!!!! And the two do go together Marvel has time travelled plenty and there's plenty in history to support some sort of evilness happening...even go back to the hayday of nemesis!!! -
Slap players that continually use paper mishes...a big hand should just come out of the screen with the words "do some story arcs" written on it and slap them! I know there's already a bonus for completing a story arc but some other incentive should be added to stop the spamming of paper mishes. Having said that sometimes it can't be helped...CoH at the levs 30-35 for instance have horrible mishes with contacts sending you all over the place to do them, so er...more hero arcs please!
Some talkie characters be interesting to hear the cut-scenes voiced or certain trainers.
More mods for the monster faces, my lizard can't celebrate christmas =(
Make the robotic legs nice.
Bring back the old thigh highs (sorry if this wrong, I haven't seen thigh high boots since I12 was in testroom)

Or whips. I'd quite like a whip-based melee set.

So would my girlfriend but enough about that!!! I'd also love a gun/sword combo set(s) -
I got Ceridanna to 50 (thanks to all involved) lev'd a couple of low alts to 15 and got the mighty Kroq-Gar to 41 so possibly the most successful DXP weekend for me!
-
Wrestling powerset which includes various holds...picking up enemies and throwing them at the others and the tier 9 power would ahve to be the spinning piledriver ala Zangief
-
Sands of Mu defo, I'm the same as the OP and share the bonus powers between several of my alts and the Ghost Slaying Axe misses half the time due to the undead using dark powers with -acc!

Who the hell wants to encourage farmers?!?!
It's bad enough getting bugged all the time for fills on my high level chars, without you encouraging them to annoy my low level ones too!
[/ QUOTE ]
Here here!!! They really don't need encouraging with those darn tells! Some of us don't farm and don't need more when we roll a low level alt.
Farmers also have the worst 'Details' in the game. (I should send that to be ahint on the loading screens!) -
Yea I'd defo want more Hydra/Luddite/Gold Bricker and Coralax mishes they're factions that just dont get enough love IMO.
Gold Brickers could easily replace some Sky Raiders missions or simply hve an arc where you're both after the samethng (being greedy villains!) -
I usually petition copyrighted material cos it annoys me people are that dumb/uncreative. Being me it takes alot to offend me...unless someones got a toon named after my RL life and stinks on the end....I'd petition that!
I also get annoyed by auto heling aura but find biting my bottom lip stops me from saying anything in-game -

I've been listening to that song for years and never realised it was him!! (Always was an idiot).
I'm Louis Theroux and I like to quiz others on their power choices. "Why did you pick hot feet?", "Do you feel team fly has any use?"....perplexed by the choice of Super Speed, Super Jump and Team Fly I decided to sleep on it until the morning.
Or...
I'm Robert Downey Jr and I'm an energy/energy blaster encased in a metal suit....what other people rip off comic book characters on this game? Least I can say I AM *beep* MAN
Or...
I'm Hugh Jackman I'm a claws/regen scrapper called...GenericHero99485...hold on thats not right... -

i think it's not the aggressive nature of the players, it's just that more and more underages kids play these games.
ones had a 11 year old kid, calling ppl noob only because he didn't got his way.....
[/ QUOTE ]
Reminds me of a story roughly about a year ago when I was in a team happily teaming away when someone new joined mid mish. He ran onto the mission map into a patch of uncovered territory and promptly died, thus causing him to call us all Noobs and quit the team.
This left me very confused.
Overall I rarely have problems like the above, usually get them at around 1-20 mark where you get some new player trying to tell a 39 month veteran they're tanking wrong cos they're hardly hitting anything but thats about it! -
I'm more of an "arrrgh" (from the throat) man, "yarrrr!" is too positive

I like the part .. "allows gamers to participate without giving up half their lives." .. No-one told me this when i started playing!

Oddly enough, it's how I explain it to my friends - as "the game you can play without it eating your social life".

I still mock my RL mates who have stayed WOW side and wont join me =( I mock because I'm out on friday nights having a wonderful time with my other mates while one or two of them are sitting for hours on WOW, whilst I'm safe in the knowledge that one night (or several) in the pub won't cause my CoX world to collapse!
I've said it before and I will say it again, thats what drew me to CoX and exactly why I doubt another MMORPG will keep me hooked for this long!

i make fun of my real life friends that play WoW
one of them just put a really long (and boring) on his guild forums saying that he is going to quit
and i'm like "yeah...for 5 minuets"
i've not decided whether or not i will continue taking the mick out of him about playing it
for all i know continuing to make fun of him may keep him away from it
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't do it as often as I did...I used to continually ask one of them if they'd gotten an elephant yet, this was a running joke until he actually did. Then asked again and he went on to me all about his tailor who had some cloth etc etc etc whilst I sat bored looking for someone to save me! -

the Talos/IP Ghost Ship popping up in Striga (perhaps the most logical place for it, if you've read the history plaques about the Moraine there), Peregrine and a few of the Rogue Isles zones.
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe an old pirate galleon for the Rogue Isles instead rather than a cargo ship as it's more appropriate for the place. Possibly spawning near the the haunted pirate base.

I always find the Hellions tip quite funny, its something like "Hellions are resistant to fire but susceptible to cold". Just makes me think of Hellions fearing the winter months or sitting around with runny noses and tissues.....yes thats how my brain works!

A new zone for low lvl characters would be great.
[/ QUOTE ]
There's already Atlas Park, Galaxy City, Perez Park, The Hollows, Kings Row, Steel Canyon, Skyway City and Boomtown, for the 1-20 range at least. and probably the one place most missed : Sewer Network, for normal hunting.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yea I'm another for "why more low level content?" I tend to out level contacts at levels 1-20 faster than a very fast thing. 30-40 however is barron, yes we've just got a new zone and the RWZ but one zone only contains a tf whilst the other gives you 2 contacts until your lev 40. Other contacts at this level either stick restrictions on what you can do or give stupid hunting mishes (yawn). So what do 30-40 teams do....paper mishes in Bricks...yawn yawn yawn!!
Other points are pretty moot too, remove ED? Not gonna happen. More travel powers? Again not really needed and make the travel power available at a lower level? To me 14 is VERY kind and good enough where it is, as stated the mayhem/safeguard mishes give a temp travel power, get both and you don't usually have to tihnk about your travel power til mid-20's! -

I've got some salsa dancing moves (well about 9....maybe even 10 (I asked the instructor for a badge)).
LETS SALSA!!!!!! -
I hate dying so any debt to me is a kick in the face and that's probably due to playing so long I still kinda think 'debt...noooooooo get it off me!!!'
I do think that the difficulty levels should have more importance other than the number of mobs/bosses etc you get, although yes this course troubles with debt (badge) whores but then what doesn't in CoX these days? -

Obv saying "I pay my sub and pay how I want" is within reason and to me if someones not pulling their weight in a team or simply doing something thats not quite right IE blasting endlessly with an empath, you tell them and give thema subtle hint...if this continues the chances are they won't be invited to the team again. I didn't use to mind polite farmers who would send an overly nice tell asking me to fill, I simply replied nicely back. But this new breed (new to me anyway) who are simply rude and dont even ask or tell you whats going on and then kick you when they've used you really gets me. So much so I if I'm invited to a team and all the team are white I check where they are, if they're in zones way above my lev I quit.
Anyways being a liberal larry I don't mind what people do unless it spoils my game and thats usually in a team. 'On Liberty' by John Stuart Mill could easily be re-written and called 'On MMORPGs'
[/ QUOTE ]
The only question i have is "Isn't the fact they play how they want and maybe have not teamed before mean that they wont know what they are doing?". Ive played MMO's a long time, i know my place in partys after spending 9 yeras in varied MMO's as a priest/healer. Since a lot of the classes in heroes/villians are attacking/buffing. Would i be considered wrong ot do things "badly" in a party then?
[/ QUOTE ]
Only if you were doing the complete opposite to what you were invited for in the first place. I.E Not healing/buffing or debuffing at all and just blasting (and you're a defender). Or you're a lev 35 scrapper with 5 primary and secondary powers in total and the rest are pool powers including 3 travel powers....then i'd say something was wrong.
Both those examples are people I've teamed with and I've helped them out, the first was a pure rad defender that wanted to blast rather than de/buff and then complained that his powers sucked. I simply asked what he wanted to do and the reply was "kill things" I pointed him to the villain side where corrs are more blasty (hence their primes are attacks).
I too have spent far too much time playing MMORPG's and know my place in a tema and what my AT is meant to be doing, there are those that are new and don't I simply let them know and point them in the direction of an AT that's more for them.
