I present bona fide New Orleans heroine, "Jazzy Hands" Hannah.

I'm trying the single-path option for six different Praetorians - one of each, plus two undercover. If I get close, but not quite, to a new level, I'll streetsweep before I start another mish. Rotating between them builds up Patrol XP too, natch. Seems do-able, in any case.
-
Thanks awful much! I sincerely appreciate the advice - I'm re-tweaking it now, throwing a proc into Bash and some more Dam/Rech into Clobber. (Observation: 'clobber' is an anagram of 'cobbler.')
By quads, triples and duals, do you mean the powers in the 40s, 30s and 20s? -
Heigh-ho, all. I've lately been looking at my Brute's build again - he was my first villain, and I dragged him to 50, but when I take him out to play, I find he just isn't as survivable as I might like. I was hoping for "sturdy warrior," but he plays more like "gelatin car driving through dense jungle undergrowth, with ants." Now, I'm not too ambitious - I've no intention of farming - it'd just be nice to be able to run him safely through missions at a moderate difficulty. So, I ask: will you kindly have a peek at my tentative Frankenslotting model, and suggest anything which might improve it? Thank you kindly in advance.

A man who would murder to achieve a democratic republic might become a model citizen once living in one. We might forever look at him askance, but stranger things have happened.

Quote:Okay, I'm about to contradict myself, so hold onto your seats.I'd even like to see a few more extravagant PCs, like dudes in biker jackets, chicks in thigh-high boots, old guys with top hats and so forth.
First up: old guys with top hats? Top hats for anything other than the most formal occasions went out with the First World War. So these old guys would have to be, what, a hundred and thirty?
That said... the CoX world does seem much more retro than ours. Civilians in three-pieces and fedoras are common... as someone mentioned, T-shirts are of the short, snug 40s/50s style... and apparently new, shiny cars have 60s/70s aesthetics. My take? Maybe super-science meant that what looks 'modern' to us has already done its run in the CoX-verse... maybe super-powered individuals having such a huge role in society (it's not called Paragon City for nothing, and all) means that American culture has embraced a similar sort of individualism, and people want big, distinctive cars with lots of gewgaws. -
Demons are a threat to everybody; everybody is fighting demons. Redside has the demons of Cap au Diable, the Thorn Tree, and the Wailers of St Martial; blueside has the bulk of Oranbega, more Hellions, plus the high-level CoT presence in Peregrine and their possessed scientists. You basically can't go wrong, and if you play a Vig or Rogue, you get both. (It immediately strikes me that a demon hunter, following laws higher than those of the USA's mortal authorities, would make a great Vig.)

The duplicates are decoys. You don't have to defeat all of them - you just have to figure out which one is the real Vanessa and attack her.

Filling in a couple of little details...
First up, 'what is an MM?' That's a Mastermind, the most pet-focussed AT. They're easy and fun to play, both solo and in teams. Scrappers are the simplest AT, and so good to learn the basics with, but MMs are an excellent choice once you've got the hang of the mechanics.
Second, as far as I recall, the -only- 'gear' that CAN'T be achieved solo (excluding purely decorative rewards) are the Hamidon and Synthetic Hamidon enhancements. They're earned through high-level raids and team missions, respectively, and are more powerful than regular enhancements, but lack some of the benefits of Inventions. So, they're totally optional.
(Come to think of it, they're not the ONLY only gear of their type - there are lower-level equivalents from some of the older raids... but they're kind of relics from the game's early days now, and not really relevant.) -
If it's the mission I'm thinking of, it should have ended with defeating a Rikti boss. If the boss wasn't there, or the mission didn't end on defeating them, then yeah, bug.
-
I'll ditto this. I've had several newbies popping me tells over the past few weeks, asking where to find the stores, how to choose their powers and so on. It's been nice, actually - I'm only a hair's breadth from two years myself, but it still gets me a little nostalgic for my first days in the game.
-
Short answer: I agree with you. Canon supports all three Origins... and it wouldn't be hard to make the other two fit either, come to think of it. But, for your standard seer... if they were just born that way, Mutant. If they unlocked the secrets through the mind through meditation, concentrative techniques, ads in the backs of magazines, whatever, then Natural.

Let me see... a few fairly common rules, like no doubling up on powersets across alts... I suppose my oddest would be that my characters as a whole have to be balanced - an equal number of males and females, heroes and villains, vigilantes and rogues, Praetorian moderates and extremists, and no duplicates of any AT until I've got one of each of the others.

Question: even if all, some or none of the above is true, what am I - or anyone else here- supposed to do about it? Light a candle? Fart a happy tune?

Quote:I'm aware of this, and I whole-heartedly agree. Next new redside zone will certainly offer something fresh and new.
And fortunately, this is exactly the tack we took with Praetoria: there's a LOT of architectural, color, and tonal contrast among the new zones, and I think it gives all players, regardless of personal taste, something to really latch onto.
The funny thing about redside is that the posh areas are there, but they're kind of... out of the way. I mean, the typical villain will pass through fair-to-middling Mercy, and the expensive parts of St Martial, but a lot more could be done with, say, central/east New Haven. Having worked for Golden Roller, Dr Percey and Marshall Brass, I want to get into Langston Corp mansion and find out just who's behind the Brickers. And Villa Requin in Sharkhead? I'd seen it on the map, but I was flummoxed to see what was actually there! It deserves more exposure in gameplay and story! -
Make an Ally, set his combat AI to Aggressive and his behaviour to Wander or Nothing. Set him to Betray when you click the glowie. Should do what you're looking for it to do.

Quote:Could he dance a hornpipe? All SS Tankers should dance hornpipes. (Totally hear you on the straw boater - tinting one of the other hats just doesn't look right.)I had a WP/SS tanker called Ralph Rackstraw. I ended up deleting him because I didn't enjoy the powers (and because there is no staw boater available in the editor).
As for public domain characters and others' modern reinterpretations - I recall a story, though not of certain provenance, of the creators of King Kong taking Nintendo to court over Donkey Kong. Result: they can throw as much money around as they want, but if the character's public domain, the character's public domain. Public domain is essential to copyright law's legitimacy! -
The Tuatha are such fops. Look at how they puff their chests out, fold their arms, strut about. They're the fanciest monsters. If they weren't busy fighting an eternal mythic war, they'd carry little parasols and cups of tea and wear reading glasses.
-
Yes, I was thinking about that, but - well, air control would be of value in an FPS deathmatch, but I can't think of so much usefulness in CoX, especially in a PVE zone. Any given jump is either "land on the island" or "miss the island, return to start" - assuming the designated landing areas are clear of mob spawns.
-
Hmmmmm... I find myself in Crey's Folly quite often, actually. Aside from many of the better late-game arcs having door missions appear there, it's great for Defeat X of Y missions - and not just for Rikti. Nice closely-packed squads of Nemesis soldiers, for example.
-
I'm sure the devs have their own plan and all, but I gotta agree - I'd love to see the Shard revamped a bit. All the underused zones, for that matter - Perez, Boomtown and Astoria in particular could do with, even if not a Faultline-, then at least a Hollows-style revitalisation. The Shard is already halfway there - it has hospital, shops and Task Forces. Some tiered storyline-based arcs would give people a reason to do solo/small group missions there, which would hopefully bring in the patronage necessary for the TF PUGs. Gotta agree with the fixed-path geiser suggestion, too.
-
I like them a lot! Even though they're strictly mid-level, we're still learning about their backstory in the final endgame arcs. I do wonder how much they're strict and militaristic, and how much they're dashing mercenary tech-thieves, but they've got bags of charm. Do wish they had another Boss-level mob, though. It doesn't make much sense for a random Sky Raiders map to end with a named jump-bot OR a Sky Skiff.

I like early Lost - when they're still Scroungers and Headmen. Once they're all Mutates and Anathemas, they lose some of the charm, I think. Otherwise... hmmm. Facing Arachnos blueside is always fun - even when I'm completely used to them redside. Rikti, for the interesting designs and the backstory... the Gold Brickers have great uniforms... otherwise, depends who I'm playing and what sort of mood I'm in.
