[QUOTE=MrVacant;2619544]I was trying to find a recent build guide, but didn't have much luck, so I'm looking for a little help. This is what I came up with for normal PvE... I'm on the Justice server where good recipes are pretty scarce. Are there any major holes I'm missing or is this build good to go?[QUOTE]
Sorry, no build to offer, however, I just wanted to mention that all the servers use the same market(except test/European of course). The Black Market, and Wentworths are separate.
If it helps at all, I have found AE tickets to be an excellent source for recipe's. Just roll bronze 10-14's, keep the stuff you can use, sell the big ticket stuff (70+mill for a +regen, not bad for 60 tickets) and use the infamy to fill in the holes. I have my mm totally frankenslotted at 36. Starting at 0 inf, and no tweaking. plus serveral hundred million to go towards a later build.
I found it hard to start making infamy on villans at first, but it is getting easier with a bit of a bankroll.

Quote:Fair point.Just a note: Even IF the Devs do do something about the ability to soft-cap every character to at least some type of Defense (and that's a very big IF at this point), I highly doubt that it will do much to the ability of a melee character, with a Defense-oriented primary or secondary, to be able to hit the soft cap.
Quote:That's why I suggested these builds - they are so easy to softcap that the dev's would need to remove pretty much all defence bonuses from the IO sets to stop you capping.
The reason I made an SD tank and not a scrapper was the ease of softcapping - go for an SD/SS tank. Very easy to softcap and great damage.
Can anyone tell me how shield charge synergizes with fury?
Like I dont have enough alts...
SD -
Nice. I'm drooling a little bit at the thought of a saturated aao and then soul drain, shield charge. and mg the boss. Toss in a siphon life and dark consumption as needed, and corner pull to shadow maul on occasion.
-
Quote:Thank you. Again, I am not trying to softcap. It will turn into a crutch for me. I would be very surprised if the ability to softcap every freaking toon in this game does not get adjusted. I would rather not use it to hold up my toon.A Shield Tank is very easy to softcap and does very good damage.
SR for a scrapper is the easiest to softcap on a scrapper - obviously no damage buff or Shield Charge but very survivable, so with say FM good damage too.
Both can be capped with standard L50 IOs, a set of Gaussians and the Def/Res Unique.
I am not shaking my finger at anyone else, more power to you. I just remember how much my nose got out of joint when burn, ih, ih, ih (did I say ih?) were adjusted.

Quote:Interesting. Thanks Aett. I think I have me a new toon...It's a pretty decent set, with a lot of tricks up it's sleeve. Granted, it's not as survivable as some other sets, like WP or Invuln, but it can get the job done, especially as a scrapper.
This is especially true since you'll get a decent return from Against All Odds in the +DMG area, which will work nicely with your primary.
The problem of the set, when you're not at the soft cap for Defense, is that you don't have a heal, so any damage that does come through can be problematic. However, that's not such a huge concern if you can defeat your enemies fast enough. Shield Charge can be a good opener, and help you avoid some of the alpha strike, which is a big help.
SD -
How survivable is a shield toon(scrapper for sake of argument) without being softcapped? How does it measure up to say fire? I understand, it is kinda like comparing apples to oranges, however, I dont want to lvl up a shield toon, build for softcap, then get all indignant when the availability to have a softcapped toon gets "adjusted".
I guess I am asking if it is a good all around set, or only nice when softcapped?
Thank you,

Quote:I dont know how to grow a 50 in 3 hours. I do know that you can run +4's missions. Which means my sked 49 is fighting +5's... its decent xp.Once again, 1-50 in 3 hours is BS. Why would it not be possible to do that before AE when someone could have a level 46 sk them but now when everyone is auto level 49? 1-50 in 3 hours would take some major grinding and major skill and in that case would be well deserved. I'd love for someone to show me how to ding 50 in 3 hours. Besides, with prices the way they are, the 3-5 mill I earn from farming AE runs and the lousy drops get drained. I make a ton more money x8 +0 on BM getting purps.
i16 Anyone? Super AE/SK nerf. AE xp is pretty much on par with normal missions.

Quote:Not positive, but I think it works that way for arena. I know for sure that in Warburg I get drops on my lvl 41 off of lvl 50 toons. Everyone is exemped to same lvl in zone pvp. My drops are the same lvl of my toon that got the rep.Actually, i heard that the other player has to be within 3 levels of you, regardless of "combat level". So if you're level 50, ex'd down to 25, and you beat a "pure" lvl 25 character, you won't get a drop. I may be wrong about this though.

As Silas stated, if you are getting rep, you have a chance for a drop. The drop is at the level of your toon.

Right. Thanks much for the list and clarification. Your words were small enough.
So, as I understand it, for return per ticket/merit it is better to random roll say brass, than roll gold, correct?
Of course, if I am looking for a specific recipe, I should refer to the list that Catwhoorg so generously pointed me to and cross my fingers, blow on the dice, and roll.
Also do merit random rolls cover all pools then?
Thanks again,
SD -
...is the one left unasked. So They say...
First off, is there a list of recipe's available through AE tickets? actually, three lists I guess, for gold, silver and bronze?
Since I know it will come to people throwing out crazy talk like "pool c's", "a's", and "brought to you by the letters F and U, and the number 666", could someone please explain to me in really small words what the different recipe pools are? I Feel really dumb not knowing, so I figure it was time to ask. The More You(I) Know!
Thank you,

Howdy folks,
I've been slowly lvling up a bots/storm and am at a lvl that I should be looking ahead. With that in mind, I played around with mids to see what I could come up with. Just wondering if anyone can see if there are any glaring issues I can't with this frankenstormy build. I know there is a little bling in there, however I would like to do this as much like the bird as possible. Cheep.
Thanks for your time,
SD

Quote:I find it funny how someone who's nose gets all out of joint when someone tells them how to play their toons, or what they should roll, has absolutely no problems telling other people how to play. If you dont want to be tactfull, fine. Just dont whinge when you get none back.I dont use pen & paper to make a build, I use the power set description, the individual powers info chart by pressing the "Info" button during creation, and I make my choices by reading from there. Its acctually a very simple thing, and no, I will not get off Mid's.
Mid's is for people who have no imagination, or are poor at math, or possibly both.
I find it funny that people have to sit down and chart out a character, or use Mid's for it, scratching there heads like monkies as if its Rocket Science.
What I like about this game, that Mid's does not tell you, is the fact that not a single combonation is a poor choice to play compaired to any others within any given AT.Thats why alot of people call Fire Armor, and other sets like it weak, because they dont know how to use it, and gosh darnit!Mid's says its bad, or another player does.
So Mid' can take a flying leap.
If you dont like how I talk about Mid's, simply stop listening. You complain about my comment/s on Mid's and ill tell you exactly how I feel about it.Its that simple.
I was not raised to use Diplomecy, or use Tact. They are utter wastes of Time for our society to keep using them.
On Topic: I play mostly melee toons. Some archetypes are more dificult for me to get into. It took me 4 years to get a blaster above 10. I can always find a powerset combination for each AT that I can play though.

Not sure why OP asks if its cool to be annoyed, while OP is annoyed at just about everything.
I dual box to lvl up two toons at the same time. Usually a dmg dealer, and a buffer of some sort. If that buffer turns out to deal massive dmg later, all the better.
Do I dual box on teams? No. Infact, I rarely team, mostly because of time constraints. That leaves me to solo, which works better for me, as most pugs make me puke up a little bit in my mouth.
I think you need to find your playstyle, and be comfortable with it. Coming to the boards every day and venting your frustrations about everything from "My defender isnt wanted on teams" to "Why does everyone min/max" is getting boring to read.
Let me share an experience of mine with you OP. The first toon I rolled was an emp/psi defender, who teamed almost exclusivly with a ma/regen scrapper. This was back in isssue 1. It was great because even though I did piddly dmg, with my buffs, the scrapper made up for it. Then he got instant healing... Dude didnt want to team anymore because there was no need. Infact, it was hard to find a team at all as an emp.
It was very frustrating. That toon was ruined for me. I vowed then and there, to not depend on other people for my enjoyment of the game, and never rolled a toon I couldn't solo to fiddy without wanting to blow the top of my skull off.
Dont let others dictate your fun, or you will never be happy.

Quote:I want to crush enemies, see them driven before me, and to hear the lamentation of the women.I think a lot of the choice comes down to what you want from your Patron.
Mu gives respectable damage.
Soul debuffs accuracy (which helps if you've layered Defence ontop of Fire's resistance)
Scorpion allows knockdown.
Not sure about Leviathan.
Personally, I went Scorpion on my SS/Fire as I like to use Footstomp as often as possible and find the mitigation of knocking folks over very useful. However, if does have a long animation time which can get annoying.
Thanks for your help folks.
SD -
Howdy folks. Well, it is hard to believe, but I actually have a brute at a level that I need to pick out a patron set.
I was thinking of going Mu. Reason for that is the -knockback in fences, so when I lay down a burn patch, and say a foot stomp, (or any kb smackaroo) I dont knock the mobs out of the patch. Will this work as I imagine, or is the theory behind it as flawed as when I got the ice epic on my fire tanker (Heads up. Mobs are very happy to ignore slows when they are scared...)
Also, I have heard that gloom is a popular choice for brutes, however, is it better than a spawn of deep fried mobs?
Also, I just want to put out there, that after more than four years of playing this game, I like knockback. At least on this brute. Against mobs that do kb, and with my kb, it makes the fight just a little more... fun. Kinda like the hulk getting knocked around.
How cool are the new SS animations eh? Nice work Babs. I think punch ground is my favorite power animation right now.
Thanks for reading,

Quote:I'm glad that we all have different game experiences, and are free to share that experience in an open forum. In theory, I have alot of experience with spines. Maybe not as much as others, but we are theorizing here. I also read alot on the forums here, might not post much, but people dont look at post counts do they?Interesting theorycraft. In point of fact, Lightning Field doesn't cause mobs to scatter any more than they would with just Quills. I have no trouble killing everything quickly with Throw Spines, Spine Burst, and Ripper, and don't need Impale at all.
Choose whatever you like of course, but your theoretical analysis doesn't really hold up to gameplay.
As such, my forum foo is rusty. Here is a quote from Thirty_Seven in this thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=201425
"Yes, the prevailing theory seems to be that mobs run when:
1) low on HP
2) outgunned
3) recharge is basically non-existant
4) out of endurance
The last two basically translate to mean "when it has no powers available with which to attack.""
So now, lets take the prevailing theory and apply it to a Spines/Elec.
1) low on HP - After a spine burst and Throw Spines, most mobs will be low on hp.
2) Outgunned - Self explanitory really, I'd feel bad for the mobs if I were fighting me as well.
3) Recharge is basiclly non-existant - Spines does slow them down a bit doesnt it? I really notice it when I am running Quills.
4) Out of Endurance - Hrumph. Lighting Field -end, Power Sink -end.
So out of four possible reasons for the mob to scatter from me, looks like this toon has all four. Add the fact that my mobs dont die in a single spine burst, throw spines, ripper chain. (+3's) It adds up to a toon that probably wont work for MY playstyle.
However, some people would consider scatter a form of damage mitigation. Like they feel that burn is a form of damage mitigation, because if they are running, they arnt attacking. My favorite form of damage mitigation is a dead spawn. Whatever floats your boat.
For the record, its not "ymmv" because Your Millage will Most Certainly Vary.
Why say it in 20 words when you can say it in 1000.
I probably spelled something wrong in there. I'm a rebel. Not because I miss-spelled, or have bad grammar, thats kinda dumb. I just dont care enough to spell check, and thats an efficient use of time.
SD -
I was thinking about rolling one of these, but after looking around a bit, it would seem that lightning field will make the mobs scatter, which can be annoying for the aoe setup. Pair that with the scatter from quills because of stacked -recharge, and that is too much impaling, and not enough bursty goodness for me.
I've decided to roll a fm/elec, and an elec/sd instead.
