  1. I appreciate the heads up. Found a lot of stuff that needed fixing in my "Amazon-Avatars" arc, thanks to customs using shields. It had lots of invalid junk in there.

Unfortunately, getting a good look in that arc to fix the bugs has me seeing all the changes I should make post-Issue 17. Got some work ahead of me.

    Thanks again!
  2. Hm. If I have time in the next week or so, I think I've got an interesting idea for a one mission bank heist.... might take a bit of work though.

    I'll let you know.

    * To get some people to try my story arcs and get useful feedback for them.
    * To find some fun story arcs for me to try out.
    * To help other people make their story arcs more cool.

With that in mind, I'm going to be closing my queue to further submissions. I'll finish reviewing the arcs already in my queue, however. After that, I'm thinking of starting up some new (but different) MA project. (I do still like MA, after all.)
Your reviews have been a great boon to the MA community, PW, so thank you.

Not only have you accomplished the 3 goals above, you've really helped set the bar for reviewers providing helpful feedback on how architects can make their arcs BETTER.

I'm a little upset with myself that I never got another arc developed enough in time to get another review from you.

Look forward to seeing what your next MA project is. Your break from reviewing duties is much deserved. You've put in quite the good year.
  4. I've definitely got an arc that's getting an upgrade to more appropriate maps after this goes live.

    3 cheers for Dr. Aeon!
  5. Big grats to PW! Well deserved!

    em: stands up and claps

And now... you've got another slot to write something in! Yay!

Yep. That's very much the kind of of Dominator that Mindstress is.
  7. One more coloring job by Darcsyde of Jean's sketches

Here's my gypsy enchantress, Satarma Baxt (illusion/kinetic controller)

  8. Two more colored versions. Agent Aegis and Minstress.

again, original art by Jean Sinclair, colors by "Darcsyde"

  9. Pro Payne gave Escalation a very nice "mini review" in his thread.

Link to post here, Escalation is the last one of the capsule reviews.

Thanks to Pro Payne for the kind review, and for enjoying the arc.

Unfortunately, the villain (a Dr. Lashion, who eventually adopted the more formal supervillain persona of “Escalation”) had been defeated one to many times, and decided it was time to unlock the true potential of her rather impressive technological skills in a quest for revenge on Pro Payne. What started as an easy battle with a very unworthy foe “escalates” into a desperate struggle against a very powerful Arch Villain. Suffice it to say this is an extremely well done, very entertaining arc. Excellent in almost every category (writing for the mission briefings and the clues, the mission design and pacing, the design of the custom faction, etc.) – and recently promoted to Developer’s Choice. This is a fantastic arc. Enough said.
    Score: 5.42
Thanks for the mini-review of Escalation, and your kind words.

    Glad you enjoyed it!
  11. Well, just about time to close off this thread, as "Escalation" got a Dev's Choice!

Announcement thread is here, including all my "thank yous":
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=200236

I do need to make one more post in this thread, to respond to Sister Twelve's very thought-filled review. Been meaning to do that, but the lead-up to Thanksgiving vacation and all the travel kept me away from it. Soon, I promise.

Then, it's time to close up this thread, and for me to get cracking on writing some new arcs. Pressure is off, time to see what I can do next...
  12. Wow. Ever since I found out, I've just been randomly smiling every so often.

First, my apologies to everyone for my absence of reply for so long.
I was off on Thanksgiving vacation for the whole week when "Escalation" was made Dev's Choice, and had almost no internet time (was busy running 5 days straight of table-top pen-and-paper RPGs as a GM). Then, a lot of work was waiting for me when I got home.

Thanks to everyone who's left their congratulations in this thread, and elsewhere.

And I want to take a quick moment to just emphasize just how incredibly supportive and helpful the Architect community is in City of Heroes. Just thinking of all the people I have to thank for helping me make Escalation a better arc, and then promote it so others could play and enjoy.

Pardon me while I get all "Academy Awards" here...

    Thanks to:
-Wrong Number for tipping me off to the MA Arc Finder global channel, where I got a lot of plays and feedback

-Chesire Cat for some very early-on encouraging words about my arcs, as we played each other's arcs in the early days of hectic MA activity.

-PoliceWoman, for reviewing Escalation and giving it 4-stars at first. She gave lots of great proof-reading and comments that knocked loose ideas in my head on how to make it a better arc. Prompted my first really major revision. Felt good to get the upgrade to 5 stars from her after those changes.

-Venture for his review of Escalation. He gave it 5 stars, which was great exposure. He also pointed out a few nits which I was able to fix eventually with some minor tweaks.

-Everyone who posted in the forum thread for the arc, sharing their thoughts. Particularly, GlaziusF for some comments that really make me think and mull over what I needed to focus on with the arc. And Eva Destruction, for some nice supportive posts.

We've got a pretty darn good support community of reviewers, forum commenters, and feedback-givers. And I guess it's appropriate for the arc that got Dev's Choice on Thanksgiving week to prompt a big round of giving thanks.

Now, time to pay it forward, I should go out and find some arcs to give feedback to myself. Help the next guy or gal in making their arc improve so they can get a DevChoice.

After I finish grinning like an idiot...
  13. Update here

since FemFury is my first and main character, figured it was worth getting her colored by Darcsyde over from Deviant Art.

and to credit the colorist, here's his dA page:

and again, Jean Sinclair's dA page

  14. Remember Projectionist's contest for MA Arcs?

well, Amazon-Avatars got an honorable mention, and won a piece of artwork.
rather than ask for a pic of one of my heroes or villains that I play, figured it might be nice to get a drawing of one of the NPCs from the Amazon-Avatars storyarc.

It turned out great, and I really like it. Thanks Projectionist!

no spoilers for the arc, but if you played it, I'm sure you recognize her.
  15. Yeah, I'm totally posting a brag thread. Fishing for Gratzes and everything.

but hey, since I'm a dedicated Justice person from the start, you know, Server Pride and all that.

Well, it'd be logical to suggest something be put in a pack if you think that the suggestion in question has a ratio of resources required vs. broad applicability to the game, that it's unlikely for the devs to make it a priority unless it produces additional pack sales.

Basically, if you look at your idea and say "Hm. The Devs aren't likely to commit time to this, since a minority of the playerbase would get good use from it. Not enough bang for the buck, so to speak. But.... if they could make 9.99 each from the people who REALLY want it, then it could be worth their time.", then it puts your suggestion in a different context to propose it as a pack.

A collection of themed emotes and alternate walk modes could very well to fit the criteria of "More likely to happen if it were a pack".

It's also a way for the poster to say to the Devs, "Hey! I would PAY for this!"

Not saying I agree with more packs, or that this idea in particular is good idea for a pack, but I do understand why someone would put a suggestion into that context.
  17. Best Serious Arc

    1st: Kiss Hello Goodbye #156389 @Kitsune9tails

2nd: Tales of Croatoa: A Rose By Any Other Name #178774 @Silvers1

Normally, I'd hate an arc that puts thoughts into my character's head or does too much to eliminate the all-to-fragile illusion of free will for our character. However, "Kiss Hello Goodbye" did give ample warning in it's intro, and so I played it "out of character", so to speak, and it ended up working for me. Your mileage may vary.

and that's it. I'm done. going to bed.
  18. Comedy can be very subjective....
    but, here's my opinions.

    Best Comedy Arc

1st: Verner von Grun's Extraordinary Extradimensional Excursions #115174 @Igor Blimey

    2nd: Freakshow U #189073 @Lethal Guardian

time to see if I can play through the Serious Arcs.
No way I'll have the time to play all the multi-part arcs and get a vote in there, I'm thinking.
  19. Some new modifications to Escalation done on 11/6/09

    - corrected typos: "Lahsion" in Mission 3 intro, "Esclation" in souvenir

    - changed minimum level of all missions from 22 to 32.
This is my way of saying "You might not be able to take the final fight if you don't have your Tier 9 in your primary yet". This is in response to a team of TO and DO level characters who played the arc and got stopped cold in Mission 5. I want to give fair warning.

    - as suggested in a feedback tell, added nav bar text for optional hostages in Mission 5
(player suggested I would want to make sure that others didn't miss the hostage dialogue in rushing to the final fight. good point)

    - changed map on Mission 4

    - added some extra optional objectives in Mission 4.
(Even managed to put in some small amount of faction diversity, finally addressing the "nit" from Venture's review long ago.)

    - Edited and trimmed text throughout the arc to make room for the above added objectives. Sitting right at 99.99% !

If the response is positive enough, then it will be made available through the KJSR store, when it comes back up.
if the website is to be believed, I was the first to vote.

And yep, I'd buy the CD. If nothing else, as a vanity thing for having two of my arcs reviewed.

You started your TO reviews around the time I was running the TO category for my voting. It was nice to read your reviews after my run through the category. Was a good part of the mulling-over process to read another person's perspectives.

(Not saying I changed how I voted based on what Venture said, but after reading his reviews, I think I decided on my votes faster than I would have without. Comparing and contrasting what you see in an arc with what someone else sees helps the thought process)

So, thanks for making the effort in the TO category.
  22. all right, Cat!

    High five!

    very, very much deserved.

I was thinking the 4th as well.

but the first page of this thread, where Bubbawheat posted the rules, it says the 9th currently, so that's what I was going by.
  24. finished enough arcs to vote another category with an informed decision:

    Best TO Range Arc (1-15)

1st: Mercytown, the one with the fish #6017 @Tangler

    2nd: The Marconeville Horror #178278 @Footloose

Hm. 6 more days to vote, 20 more arcs to play (since the multi-parters are 9 arc between 4 stories). This could be tight. If only I could skip a day of work....

Trying to be a fully-informed "academy member" is hard!
(actually it's fun way to engage the MA and find better stories than normal. Thanks again to Bubbawheat and everyone who helped make this happen)
