Personality Packs

It seems to me that since Ninja Run came out people are seeing more and more need for a CO style ability to modify the way our travel powers animate. I see a need for something similar. I think the way this idea could be implemented would benefit both the players and NcSoft.

I think the developers could impliment "personality packs" which would be similar to the super booster packs. Each pack could contain 5-10 character "personalities".

An example of one personality might be a zombie personality. The zombie personality could contain a zombie walk, a zombie run and a zombie stand idle pose. The idea would be that none of these would be triggered by emotes, they would just happen in place of the character's current walk/run/stand animations.

If you think about it, it doesn't make a lot of sense for a woman who cuts people up with a rusty blade to run like she's late for cheerleading practice or a small framed man who uses psychic power to run like a confident bodybuilder.

I'm planning a character who isn't a hero, but rather a sleep walker who just happens to save people with her dreams. I'd love to have that heroine stumble and shuffle around like she's not aware of her surroundings instead of appearing totally alert.

I think this presents an opportunity both for the creative aspect of city of heroes to deepen even further and for NcSoft to easily make more money at little developing expense.

I hope it can be considered.

Why does everyone always put their suggestions in packs? Why does everything have to be n Booster Packs? I like your suggestion, but why not suggest it for addition to the base game?

People starting to suggest things into packs scares me.

Me too, but maybe people are just thinking, with all these packs that are coming out, that the probability for something like that to be omplemented is bigger if it come sout in a pack...
And I think they´re wrong, since Walk as an example came live and wasn´t even in an Issue but regular updates. So let´s keep the suggestions, just skip the "pack" stuff. :-)

Well, it'd be logical to suggest something be put in a pack if you think that the suggestion in question has a ratio of resources required vs. broad applicability to the game, that it's unlikely for the devs to make it a priority unless it produces additional pack sales.

Basically, if you look at your idea and say "Hm. The Devs aren't likely to commit time to this, since a minority of the playerbase would get good use from it. Not enough bang for the buck, so to speak. But.... if they could make 9.99 each from the people who REALLY want it, then it could be worth their time.", then it puts your suggestion in a different context to propose it as a pack.

A collection of themed emotes and alternate walk modes could very well to fit the criteria of "More likely to happen if it were a pack".

It's also a way for the poster to say to the Devs, "Hey! I would PAY for this!"

Not saying I agree with more packs, or that this idea in particular is good idea for a pack, but I do understand why someone would put a suggestion into that context.

Well, OP, first- Ninja Run isn't changing how our powers animate. It's a new (and unenhanceable) power in and of itself.

Changing "run styles," though... I don't know, I don't see them going into a pack. As it is, you can already have six different versions of Sprint (Sprint, Prestige power slide if you bought the COH CE, and the four preorder/vet sprints.)

One thing I would hope, though, is that these were added as alternate animations - not alternate powers in and of themselves. While I don't mind (much) having five other Sprints - that's pretty much my limit. (I'll sometimes use one with a jump or run set Stealth in it, basically, and ignore the others aside from normal Sprint.) But having them all added as extra powers instead (one way of doing it) - ugh, I hate to think what my powers list and post-respec tray would look like!

In any case, alternate Sprint animations (not sure if they could do it to walk) - sure. As a pack - not really sold on it.

In my opinion, I can't afford Booster Packs. There have been a few things contained within them in the past that I would have liked to have used on any number of my characters. Some of them are really VERY cool. My main problem with them is that for a month after every pack that's ALL I HEAR about.

Has it been my decision to not spend what is really a small amount for these goodies? Yes.
Does it bum me out when I am CONSTANTLY reminded of what I am missing out on? A bit, yes.

Well I'm not really implying that it would be a new kind of sprint. I'm also a little overwhelmed by the number of sprints I have and don't really use them after a certain level. I'm suggesting it as something more like the costume change emotes. It would just be something that replaces an older animation.

Also, I know that ninja run is an un-enhancable power. I just noticed that when people in ninja costumes use it it lends a lot of authenticity to their theme. I think that being able to sort of "flavor" your basic movement animations would add a small new dimension to character customization.

I suggested it as a paid item because I know the devs are very very busy. Also as a programmer myself I know that sometimes even when you see something you could do to improve your client experience, if you can't explain to the people in charge why it's a good idea to add this improvement it won't happen.

I'd love to see this implemented for free and if they'd be willing to do it under those specs I'd much prefer it. I haven't bought any of the booster packs yet either even though I want to. I just know that sometimes when you try to get an idea like this accepted you have to make a case for how it benefits the people who are making it. Suggesting it as a paid item gives them something to take to their bosses and go "see, if we do this it gives us something too."
