  1. If this is a mission in the RWZ where an enemy listed as a mission objective is showing as friendly, this is something that hit my wife a short while ago.

Unfortunately I can't remember whether we resolved it by autocomplete (I think we did), or if there was, tucked away in a corner somewhere, the final enemy mob that we needed to take down for him to go hostile (for some reason I think we might have dealt with it this way, too - damn my memory!).

That said, I agree that there should be a way for GMs to check if you are online and in-game when they are sending the email, to decide whether you should receive one to your in-game email or to your personal email (though I think the procedure should be to send it to both.
  2. I have never...

    - Got a villain to 50 (working on it, though, thanks to the Echelon!)
    - Completely IOd a character
    - Done Shadow Shard TF 1 & 3 (but I want to!)
    - Got any character other than my main to 50
    - Levelled a scrapper past 12, a tank past 8, a MM past 7
    - Played warshade, brute or stalker
    - Played any blaster other than Eng/Eng
    - Used up one of my bonus character slots on my 1st account
    - Fought new hami
    - Understood why people want a 'healer' instead of my Rad defender
  3. Sorry, I'm getting confused, and I'm actually quite interested:

Are you saying that imageshack, with whom I have my avatar hosted, and an agreement that I can use the image for my own purposes, can step in and stop me using this image as a forum avatar, simply because these forums are owned by NC, not imageshack?

Or am I just getting confused about the context of this discussion?

    CoH not Working

    Okies, let's break this down.

You've had an account for the last 2 months, and have not EVER been able to log in? You have never had a character in CoX?

And AoC has started doing the same thing?

Can you let us know the spec of your PC? This is most likely to be a driver issue, but let's eliminate other options, first.
  5. Sam's rippling giggle sounded from the rooftop. "You know, sugar, the only reason I think you don't want to go down there with that Warshade is because he's all big and manly, and you're all cute and kittenish, and poor little Ellie doesn't want to get shown up by a throbbing purple monster."

Whirling around, Sam focused her attention on the cluster of flyers, drawing in her will and sending a pulsing thought at them: Sleep, boys. Sleep. You'll feel much better after a little nap. Aunty Sammy will take care of you.

Winking at Ellie, she tried not to laugh as about half of the Freaks dropped out of the sky, one falling straight toward the Warshade below.

    "Look out!" Sam yelled, grimacing.
  6. Walking down the street, hot-dog in hand, ketchup dribbling from one corner of her mouth, one hand tugging at the skirt that an observer might call a mini - if that observer was feeling generous and thought that ants were kinda large, really - Samantha Huntington groaned at the sight of the dozens of Freakshow come boiling from the building.

"Oh, come on! Can't a girl have one day of peace?"

Gobbling down the last mouthfuls of delicious processed meat, she frowned as a 'dwarf' kheldian warped into the middle of the crowd, to back up the girl with claws who was doing a respectable job on the gang of cybernetically enhanced loons.

Frowning for a moment in concentration, she teleported herself to the top of a nearby building, affording her a better view of the fight, which she could tell was likely to go from desperate to insanely deadly in short order.

Giving herself over to the torrent of radiation within her, she began to glow brightly, and picked one of the hovering Freaks out of the crowd. Stretching out with her mind, she found him, wrapped her will around his and pushed, trying to twist his perceptions, to force him to lose his sense of friend and foe, and to reverse it.

A snarl of satisfaction escaped her lips as she watched him send a crackling bolt of energy at one of his friends. "I'm a woman with a loaded mind, and this has been a bad week. I hope you all like prison food."

Over what timeframe are we talking? If it's just started now, and you've been able to get on previously, then it's possible that the servers are down for maintenance this morning.

If you have never been able to get into the game, please let us know what the error message says and when it appears, and we may be able to help.

Sorry you took my post personally. I used Quick Reply which, unfortunately tags it to the last post made. I was making a general observation of posting I've seen it was not aimed at you. If I was aiming at you I would have quoted you, as in this instance.

However my observation stands. And I'm posting my reply here as you addressed it here rather than in a PM.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah, the perils of quick reply.

Fair enough. See what I mean about people assuming the worst, though?

I'm now going to be sensible and get off this particular topic (though I may post in the thread again, just not about this issue).

Thanks for the response, Steampunk. Vastly appreciated.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
I can only assume The Phantoms comments were a joke without knowing of any reason why they shouldn't be ie seeing any previous conflicts.

I try to assume the good in people right up until they directly use insults that can't even be taken a different way.

After one person has offered insight on how someone is perceived I don't quite get why more people add themselves with nothing new.

Golden Girl is quite possibly, a tank in disguise. Someone could sling every insult at her only to get " " in her reply. I admire that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have to admit, Shannon, that your feelings are considerably more forgiving than mine, and I admire you for that.

And I will freely admit that, while I have my own problems with Golden Girl, I respect her utterly for her ability to shrug off and smile at some of the vitriol that is directed her way.

Regarding people deciding to weigh in when someone else has already said something that they agree with - it's to do with wanting your voice to be heard, rather than simply "/sign"ing a post. Everyone thinks they have something unique to add to a discussion, and they want their opinions known.

I will also admit that my responses to posts varies depending upon my mood. If I'm feeling grumpy, I take things poorly, so I try to avoid posting (such as when I originally read this thread on the day it was created, where I will happily point out that my initial reaction was to leap to GG's defence. I chose not to, knowing that I would respond vastly in excess of the provocation).

Maybe in the new forums, if they ever really arrive, the policing of poster conduct will be left to the Mods rather than a textual scragging by a few self-righteous egos.

If you think someone has posted something offensive then there's a little icon to the right of "Post Extras" at the bottom of every post.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    *sigh*

Firstly, practice what you preach, rather than coming back at me on the forums. I'm quite happy to let GR do the policing - if you can find the part where I told IM that he shouldn't have posted it, that he was wrong to have posted it, and that my feelings on the matter are more important than anyone elses, do please let me know.

Secondly, I will point out that I find it offensive that you believe me to be a 'self-righteous ego'.

Thirdly, one thing that I appreciate about these forums is that everyone is free to express their opinion, which is exactly what I did. I have not condemned the OP for his post, merely stated that in my opinion, which I accept could be wrong, he made an unnecessary dig at a fellow player, and that to me it means that his entire post became devoid of any respectability. YMMV.
  11. You have our deepest sympathies regarding it, Boar, but NCs policy regarding patches is that they don't tell us when they're being applied until the day it happens.

Much as I hate to say it, though, the odds are that it will be Tuesday of next week (which is the most common day for patches to be applied).

If we are extremely lucky, they'll patch it today, but I wouldn't hold my breath, if I were you.

Banning the use of member name 'Golden Girl'.
No. A stupid and frankly, insulting suggestion. Do you have something personal against her or something? She's a paying customer and has every right to post, just like you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It was a joke, you know...

    [/ QUOTE ]

One thing you can guarantee about forums: Someone, somewhere, will take anything you say in the worst possible light.

So, the 'suggestion' that a particular member name be banned, can be viewed as a personal attack, and has been by some people (myself included), whether you were intending to joke or not. And personal attacks are not allowed on these boards.

Unfortunately, with that single, poorly thought out 'joke', this thread has, for me, lost any prospect of being taken seriously, because if you were 'joking' about that, I have to assume that you were 'joking' about the rest of your suggestions as well.
  13. Honestly not sure, MaX. The one time I got hit by it, I got a TP.

However, logging to desktop completely clears your PC's link to the servers, while merely dropping to login might leave something open that could enable the bug to 'stick' (No, I have no idea how, but I'm a great believer in 'better to be safe than sorry').
  14. Pretty much, yes.

The "Ghost Town", "Twilight" or "Map Desync" bug (which is the official name) is something of a problem right now, though there is a 'fix' being tested right now that has a /sync command which (when it goes live) will allow you to force a synchronisation to the server. For the moment, though, your only options are to either teleport (whether yourself, or getting someone to TP you, which forces a resync with the server) or log out to desktop and log back in.

Be warned that the bug itself seems to be particularly virulent right now and logging out does NOT guarantee that you will be okay when you log back in.

Please, don't let this put you off the game - it is only a temporary setback, which is frantically being worked on.

Oh, and welcome to the game and the forums!
  15. Shadowe

    Dear Devs,

What would I like to see PvP-wise?

Well, firstly, I don't PvP. I've been in the zones a few times, bimbled around a bit, usually get AS'd by a stalker, listen to a bit of trash-talk about being a n00b (to which my reply is "Way to make me want to PvP more!"), and then leave.

What would make me possibly interested in PvPing?

Simple, really. An Arena based PvP league, organised here on the forums (whether with the community guys involved or not), with prizes. Fairly loose and flexible organisation, because you can't tie people down to playing at a particular time very easily, but...

    Duel League.
    3v3 League.
    3v3 Casual League.
    5v5 League.
    5v5 Casual League.
    8v8 League.
    8v8 Casual League.

The non-casual leagues are for fixed teams. There's nothing stopping a player of a character playing in more than one non-casual league at once (even with the same character), but a particular character may not be on more than one non-casual league team.

The casual league idea is basically for random teams selected from the characters who have registered for the league to be selected by an outside and independent adjudicator, the players in the league earn points individually, rather than by team, and prizes are given to the top 3 characters in each league.

And if the devs implement a "no set bonuses" option to Arena matches, you can have "hardcore" versions of each of those leagues for people who want it with set bonuses active.

    Just a little idea, anyway.
  16. The problem, as I see it, is that until the devs implement this into CoX (perhaps as a mini-game) no one who plays can possibly be happy.

On a more serious note, though, we are well aware that there are different teams dealing with different things in CoX development, but this is purely a QoL code change. Just taking things since I12, I would rather the devs dealing with QoL code fixed the Trial Account bug than coded up this suggestion. It's not that I don't like the idea, or that I wouldn't be happy to see it, but I'd rather that the height sliders were available in the cossie editor as well as the character creator.

I have three different versions of my main, four different versions of my secondary, and a large number of support characters for RP purposes spread across my two account, taking up 22 of 32 character slots. If I want to make a female version of my main for RP purposes, I have no hardship rolling a female version of my main. This particular request is just quite low on my priorities, and I suspect that unless it's as easy to do as many of us seem to think, it's not likely to happen in a hurry.

In the same way as the mass of FFM is 2Mkg.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The FFM is a standardised unit, commonly used as a shorthand form for measuring the mass of large physical objects, such as bridges, skyscrapers, small moons (and the odd space station) and so forth.

There is a long ongoing debate about whether the FFM should be used in scientific papers, due to the inexplicable prevalence of extraordinarily bright Hawaiian shirts worn by the authors of works that have used the term.

One spokesman for the brightly coloured scientific community that uses the FFM frequently, is heard to have commented "Well, using the FFM without wearing a Hawaiian shirt, is like having Oliver Hardy without Stan Laurel..."
  18. This is not unique to CoV.

Yesterday, Union, Galaxy City - during one invasion I witnessed several rikti of various types appear, become selectable as a target, vanish, begin the TP animation (whatever it's called) and then vanish completely.

This is a lot worse than the normal targetable rikti that haven't spawned properly yet issue.
  19. Title changed.

Like I said before, this is a good idea. And if expressed as the ability to have characters who can have the different phenotypes available within the different costume slots, I doubt there are that many people that would complain.

In those terms, this suggestion gets /signed.

As anything that would spark debate on gender issues, this suggestion will be laughed out of the devs' office.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Will this show me what events are currently in progress or jsut the ones that start while I'm logged in ?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Quick answer: No, it won't. The zone event notification to chat channel is an immediate one-off message. I agree that this would be a fantastic addition to the information given while logging on, though.
  21. There's a channel for Hero Zone Events and a channel for Villain Zone Events. You might want to get them added to your chat tab. Right-click on the tab you want to add them to, find the channel you want in the right-hand box, and click "Add".

    Shadowe, I freakin' love you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And I love you, too, Stase.

Oh, and in the interests of either utterly destroying my credibility, or stopping this thread from going down a route it probably should have: Anyone who disagrees with me is obviously from the same school of thought as the nazis.
  23. Woohoo!

    Fun thread.

I'm going to weigh in on... wait for it... both sides of the argument!

    1) For: I see no moral objection that can stem from enabling body-type to be changed by costume slot. If someone wishes to portray a character who is trans- or omnigendered, then more power to them. This is not a problem to me, and shapechanging is a staple of the genre, as well as reflecting the reality of the world in which we live, where the gender spectrum does not solely consist of male/female.

    2) Against: We have no idea whether this is a feasible implementation. I happen to think that it would be, and I think it should happen. On the other hand, I doubt it will, for the following reasons - a) it might be a lot harder than we think, and b) it creates threads like this on the forums that turn into veritable flame wars where people don't listen to each other. The possible disadvantages probably outweigh the advantages, as far as the devs can see, not least because the odds are that such tech would be used primarily by RPers to denote shapechangers/trans- or omnigendered individuals, and it's actually not much of a hardship for us RPers to simply roll another toon (okay, the 40-90 second downtime caused by logging out and logging in on a different toon is immersion-breaking, but it's not that bad) for what we need. I would rather see dev time devoted to new powersets/costumes/zones/villains than this pure QoL issue.
  24. *lynches FFM*

I can just see this on a team of 50s...

"Whoop, dead, down to effective 49. Bah and humbug."

    Five seconds later

"Ding! Debt free, back up to 50!"

... hang on a minute, that would be a fun way of letting L50s get the new insp buff when levelling.
  25. Currently debt is a momentary blip, even solo, and so the only incentive not to die is the time it takes to move through zones and load maps. Wow. Hardship.

I think that the amount of debt acrued by death needs upping again, and I wouldn't be averse to seeing a small penalty applied to the character while they have debt (a damage debuff for scrappers and blasters? An accuracy debuff for controllers? An endurance recovery debuff for defenders and tanks? That sounds like it could be pretty fair, if the numbers are balanced).
