I was the one that suggested the captions, FYI.

Quote:Here's the thing about damage in video games: it will never make sense, especially when hit points and health bars enter the equation. If you want more realistic, consistent damage, play Call of Duty, not City of Heroes.Suspension of disbelief? Yes, it's a video game and, yes, it's a comic book genre. While many a concussion has been given by a rock, it's also true many a person has been killed by an explosive weapon. When suspension of disbelief is stretched too far and the story and setting become inconsistent that's a problem whether it's a game, a movie, a book, or what have you.

Quote:What does that say about you the player character paying an agency that pays villains to be more active?Urm, actually, it was heavily suggested that HeroCorps was also responsible for paying villains to cause trouble in cities it operates in...and that this is why when you want to "take on harder missions" (i.e. increase difficulty) you pay a HeroCorps rep to make it happen.

Quote:Perhaps more enemies should have buffs/debuffs. It could be an interesting learning experience.Heh, We're just used to being on the 'player character' side of that mechanic.
And, if rocks are higher damage, so what? Rocks hurt in real life too. Many a kid has earned a concussion from a rock fight. If you don't want to feel it, kill the Seers. Get rid of their debuff. Even the IDF weapons will hurt less, since I'm apparently wrong about indoor Seers.
It seems like a fair tradeoff: Faster but receiving more damage, or slower and receiving less. -
No, it's probably that you're curbstomping the Seers more handily inside than outside. From what I've seen, it looks like people are actively ignoring the Seers outside in hopes to spped up their public opinion, thus letting their debuffs build up.

Y'know, I like these ideas. Especially the Vahzilok, Luddite and Golbrickers ideas.
Concerning the Petrovic bros, though... they appear in the Bonefire arc and they turn out to not be any different from the regular Bone Daddies. They're Marrowsnap and Marrow Drinker. -
Quote:Y'know, I always kind of figured Wade was one of Rularuu's aspects. Same headshape, the devotion to release him, and that weird introductory text:If Wade gains the power of the Well, I count on him being absorbed into Rularuu in some way, probably by becoming one of the unseen Aspects
Quote:The first time with me, Darrin Wade, is always memorable.
I've seen things that would make a normal man curl up into the fetal position and rip his eyes out. I've walked on the backs of giants and drunk from the rivers of Avalon.
The simple man you see before you is only a single facet of my being. -
Quote:The problem with Silver Gale's position is simply that it would take like 4 of those seers and a couple of agent provocateurs to wander into Atlas, convince the civvies that they need to attack the heroes and hey presto, no more Paragon City.
If a few Seers can debuff Incarnate PCs to that level, that quickly, that a rock or two fells them, then that tells me the Devs are bereft of ideas. The overwhelming power of the Seers to debuff us puts all the other incarnates we've encountered in the shade. It's a good job for Cole and Mother that they are on side... they are way over-powered.Quote:I have two thoughts regarding Silver Gale's rationale:
- Trying to contrive an in-game explanation will always fail in the face of other competing, contradictory in-game concepts. Am I to accept that the Telepathist's powers of suggestion are so strong that they can get my powered armor toon to spend five minutes removing his Impervium Armor battlesuit? Or that said powers of suggestion can somehow "convince" a mutant this his inherent powers don't work anymore? I'm sorry, but that dog just don't hunt.
- These same Scryers are found in abundance in Praetoria in the Maria Jenkins arc. These Scryers are not hanging out with mere normal citizens, but with large mobs of ACUs, BCUs, Mark VI Victorias, Heavy Troopers, Commanders, etc. If you think a handful of unpowered citizens armed with rocks are a legitimate threat when presided over by a single Telepathist, then no toon in the game would be capable of standing up to the mobs in the Maria Jenkins arc for more than about five seconds.
Seriously, it's like you people have completely forgotten how godly powerful buffs and debuffs are in this game. -
Quote:Isn't that signature a Professor "Twixt" Manchild reference?I agree to a lot of things when I sign in, but the word "research" appears nowhere in the forum rules and guidelines that I can find. Feel free to point me to it if I missed it.
As far as NCSoft goes, I have no control over what they do with my postings. That's trivially true. I don't care about them. It's the people who wouldn't bother asking them that I'd like to deter from treating me as a datapoint without my consent. -
There's also nothing in that back history that contradicts that Shivans are used by the Battalion to scout worlds. The Arcosian planet is probably a Battalion colony now, the Shivans having served their purpose there.
-
Quote:Play the Ouroboros initiation arc. The Battalion uses Shivan meteors as scouts.Weren't the Shivan meteors originally sent to Earth by a destroyer of worlds called galact... er, Shiva, by Earthlings? I haven't seen anything directly connecting Shiva to the Battalion / Coming Storm, so for the moment Shiva ought to be considered at least potentially a seperate space race.
Quote:Speak with Mender Silos
Mender Silos
Briefing
Character. I am glad to finally meet you, or re-meet you in this case.
My name is Mender Silos, and I am over one million years old. I come from the future, near the end of time itself. I created Ouroboros so that we could have a centralized location to try and mend the past.
I am sure Lazarus told you about the Carbon Law, and the tethers we from the future have. Of course, I am far beyond my tether, but this wouldn't be the first law I have broken. I have been planning this for a very, very long time.
This threat... in the near future, I call it the 'coming storm.' Earth will be attacked by it, and will be unable to defend herself due to extenuating circumstances. I plan on changing that. The first step in eliminating this storm is to remove its scouts from a point in your near future. If you would be so kind as to go forward in time and help Mender Lazarus. Once they are defeated, Ouroboros will begin charting the causality wake to determine the outcome upon your time stream. -
Well, Akarist doesn't seem to care for him.
Quote:'These things never end well'
Before you handed him over to Johnny's men, Akarist told you something:
'Ah, so I was correct. This is about Mr. Sonata. How droll. No doubt he's begun to fear his contract is finally up. Oh, you did know that, correct? This is all about the little deal Mr. Sonata made to gain all of his wealth and power and fame. It's a sad case, really, but one repeated any time ambition and ignorance boldly stride into the open arms of the underworld. I was wondering why so many people seem so enthralled by such a mediocre singer. And here I had put it off to changing tastes in music over the eons since I was last alive.
It does make sense, though. My guess would be that the 'Wailer' demons are part of the curse, come to collect Mr. Sonata's soul. Mr. Sonata has been very clever, though. St. Martial itself is nothing more than a way to focus mystic power into a series of wards meant to distract, disrupt, or bar the demons' entry. But it won't work forever. I'll provide him advice of course, but it's not going to help. These things never end well. Believe me, I know.
The delightful thing about situations like this is that it works both as history and as metaphor. Johnny Sonata sold his soul for success literally, but the sort of person he is, if there were no demons in this world, he would have sold his soul just the same through more mundane means. -
Oh yes, I get that. I just never recall it being a hardline rule that songs have to rhyme in order to be songs. Hell, the same goes for poems. I've read dozens of poems that don't feature a single rhyme, just as I've listened to dozens of songs without rhymes.

A zombie posts a necro. How amusing.

Quote:I don't know... I like Silver Gale's slant on the whole issue:I have no issue with Batman slipping on those electric brass knuckles like he did in JLU to trade punches with Parademons.
I've used this example before:
When non-super Captain America downs a Frost Giant with just his wits and his shield, that just shows how badass he is. Nobody questions it.
But when you have Thor get taken out by a shot to the chest by a Luger P08, that is wrong.
The point is, they should aim high for their content, not cater to the lowest common denominator. If you don't want your street level vigilante fighting giant robots, don't. Opt out of becoming a god and never unlock your Alpha. But FFS, don't have demigods getting beaned by sticks and stones.
Quote:There you go, then. Mechanically, what happens is that the Scryers debuff your defenses *and* resistances making you vulnerable to the rock attack, but in-story, you can just treat it as the Scryers incorporating the rock-throwing into their mental attacks.
"Why are you here? You're not doing anything useful. Every decent citizen hates you. Look at them yelling and throwing things. You're worthless and you should just lay down and *die*."
Adjust as needed for whatever deepest fears your character has.
Hell, they should add captions to the trial that evoke that effect. -
Quote:Batman says you're wrong.Precisely. You can write whatever weaknesses you want into your characters, but some content simply doesn't work for some characters. A street-level detective hero has no place trading punches giant war machines armed with chainguns and surviving rockets to the face.

The Rogue Isles. There are three or four islands on the southern end of the map, but no one can seem to go to them. Seriously, what's going on down south in the "unexplored" regions? I find it hard to swallow that they'd remain unexplored in the modern age.

It really does appear to be a case of the Seers stacking. Here are the stats on the Seers in question:
Quote:-DEF and -RES (All). So guess what? This is a game mechanics issue. The Seers are plowing your defenses and resistances down the tubes, making those angry rock-throwers seem more powerful than they actually are.Scryer
Scryer
Scyers are among the elite of Mother Mayhem's Seers. They make up the rank and file combatants among the elite. They specialize in tearing their foes' minds apart with their mental assault while peering into the mind of their foes to find their weakness.
Level: 40+
Powers
Psionic Dart Ranged, Minor DMG(Psionic), Target -Recharge
This basic attack does moderate Psionic damage, and can slightly reduce a target's attack speed. Damage: Moderate, Recharge: Fast
Reveal Weakness Ranged Foe -DEF, -RES (All)
The Scryer peers deep into their victim's mind and finds what they are most vulnerable to. Targets affected by this power have their defense and damage resistance reduced for a short time. Recharge: Long
Subdual Ranged, Moderate DOT(Psionic), Foe Immobilize
Subdual deals moderate Psionic damage and may leave the targeted foe Immobilized for a brief time. Immobilized foes cannot move but can still attack. Damage: Moderate, Recharge: Moderate
Resistance Auto: +20% Res(Psi), +4% Def(Melee, Ranged)
Seers are able to predict their foes' incoming attacks granting them a minor defense buff, and are quite resistant to psychic damage.
I'm not sure how the devs could "fix" this unless they just removed the damage from rock attacks altogether. That said, I agree with ClawsandEffect. If they removed the challenge, people would just be complaining about how it's too easy. -
Quote:Wait, there's a dev running around here with the name of a certain Red Wizard of Thay lich?Well, we finally got the video. The downside is that it's (currently) only available on the 12/14/11 uStream.
If you would like to see it, click this link, let it load and start playing, then play the mandatory 35 second ad. Once that's done, jump ahead to the 13:30 mark, and watch Zwillinger and Szass Tam as they present Szass Tam's Staff Fighting Video from the Player Summit Art Panel. -
