Quote:I don't think I mentioned willpower in that post. I was talking about the different uses they put their demons to.I'd disagree on the Desdemona having the stronger willpower. After all, Infernal has to have a strong willpower to bind the demons and keep them bound. Not to mention he can summon his own demons.
And he can summon alot more demons than Desdemona can, as evidence by the missions. -
Quote:I'm surprised MORE people aren't drooling over Desdemona and her booty shorts. I thought she was going to be the new Ghost Widow in terms of fan favoritism for a while. You say it like it a bad thing!
Raven hair women in leather ALWAYS get my vote!
I'd say that I'd give Desdemona an edge in the fight. Although Infernal is a powerful demon binder, he's just bound demons to his armor and weapons to make them really strong. Desdemona is a sorceress and has put her skill towards controlling and supporting her demons as minions. Assuming that they can call up an even number of demons, Desdemona's will be on average stronger, because she'll be firing off her other spells (Dark Miasma powers).
Infernal has her utterly spanked in a straight up fight, but I think she has the resources to defeat his demons and outnumber and surround him, ensuring that he never gets into a position to use his demonic axe, and his armor is far from impenetrable. -
Okay, I'll admit it. I laughed.
Star wars has a lovely four-color morality that I've started to look askew at since I've been getting older. From entertainingly contradictions like that one to the whole 'From a certain point of view' line, the Jedi aren't all -that- morally absolute in their position. There would be a lot of fridge logic about their behavior if their primary opposites weren't kicking back in a power that gives you creepy weird skin conditions and evil red underwear if Knights of the Old Republic is to be believed. Maybe that gives strength to the 'Good/Evil defined by narrative' theory.
Those are awful, awful clowns. I like your signature, though. -
Quote:A long time ago we had a teacher who ran a game during her class for everyone over a certain percentage of points, picking from a list of chocolate bars. Whoever guessed the bar she'd brought in that day got one. While looking at the picks, I noticed the wrapper for a Mars bar. I'd never had one, so I picked it. I didn't win, but I was pretty confident. As long as I picked it again and again, it'd come up and I'd get to try it....and I'll rise to the bait! What is it then? Something original and mainstream such as a Mars, or M&M's? Or something more exotic, such as a Cherry Ripe, or a Violet Crumble?
So I did. For the entire school year.
It never came up once. When I brought it up with the teacher at the graduation ceremony, she told me there wasn't anywhere to buy mars bars nearby.
Since then, I've always thought that the mars bar was some sort of bitter conspiracy against me. I don't think they sell them in America, or call them Milky Ways, or something. The wikipedia page isn't quite clear. -

I'm not on a computer with the right copy of Mids on it, but I'll get back to you soon, I hope.
-
They don't really fit the concept, hence I didn't really consider it. There's quite possibly a better combination of powers in one of those two sets.
-
Having samurai'd my way through 40+ levels as a katana/willpower, I'm on the verge of finally picking up my ancillary power pools. However, I'm a tad stuck as to which I should pick. I've had several suggestions, and looked at the build in mids, but I'm still indecisive.
I could take Body Mastery, which would involve getting Focused Accuracy, Physical Perfection, and Conserve power. Although I don't really have end problems (I took both stamina and the willpower version of it), extra regen and recovery is always nice.
I gain:
Increases from
207% -> 232% recovery
324% -> 363% Regen
But:
Has limited-utility 'Conserve Power'
A friend suggested I take the Fighting pool. I'd pick up Kick, Tough, and Focused Accuracy from the Body pool. The extra 20 accuracy and +7tohit seems too good to pass up.
With this method I gain:
Increases from
32% -> 50% Smethal resist
But:
Has useless Boxing/Kick power(Weapon based scrapping means it's not useful due to redraw.)
The other route I wanted to go down was the Weapons Mastery pool. I'm the least certain about this, since it doesn't offer advantages that are easily measured, unlike the other two. I'd want to take Webgrenade, Targeting Drone (Functionally identical to Focused Accuracy), and Shuriken.
I gain:
an immob/slow
But:
Has useless-but-cool Shurikens.
This was all tested with the assumption of using SOs, and with enemies in range of RttC for the regen numbers.
So, thoughts? Anything I haven't thought of is a welcome suggestion too. -

You can't use a proper pimp cane if you're dual weilding pistols. You'd have to drop the cane to draw the second gun, and then go back and pick it up. And if it's a proper pimp cane, it's expensive, so you can't afford to drop it and maybe lose it.
I'll give you the feather, though. -
I haven't played with any of these, but made them after noodling around in the CC.

Forgive, I've been gone for three months or so. Wasn't there a Bleach themed SG on freedom or something? Where they ever shut down or warned by the GMs or Devs? If not it might mean that taking setting info might not be as frowned upon as blatantly making rips of characters.

Hot damn. Anyone wanna post some videos of the male and huge walks? The female walk animation is beautiful.
. . . . It's already a little bit difficult to watch a tights-wearing female hero run without occasionally staring at her posterior. I think walking might make it worse.
Or is it just me who does that? -
/usethegodhand
Applies a perma-hasten effect and cuts the animation time of powers to let you fire off flurries of blows.
/killersolo
Changes the animations of Sonic Blast to the character air-guitaring.
/iamspartacus
Changes everyone's costume to match yours.
/dancecraze
Hold powers lack SFX and cause the targeted NPC to /em dance rather than the normal hold emote. -
I lost a pair of family cats to disease, and know how painful an animal's death can be. Treasure your fond memories.
-
So, I think the cycle here is:
1. "We want blunt weapons that fit a set of animations to be applied regardless of damage type."
2. "Your blunt weapons doing the wrong type of damage would damage my suspension of disbelief. If you want your blunt weapons, request a new powerset instead."
1. "We do not want to request a new powerset because we believe that the effort required to create it means it is unlikely to see fruition, thus we are requesting a less labor-intensive alternative."
And then it cycles through again. It was very succinctly put by Captain Photon, as a clash of interests between mechanical and aesthetic. I do not think that it's reasonable (or that anyone asked) for players to be able to wield baseball bats as a Broadsword Scrapper. This was a request to get certain exotic blunt weapons into the game that would look awkward wielded as the catch-all smashing set, War Mace. These are too specialized to merit their own powerset, so the most likely way they would be included in the game is as a skin for a pre-existing powerset.
I fear we are reaching the end any of logical discourse here. Those that would be interested in wielding Escrima sticks or a wood katana will state it is reasonable to waive the stated restriction on visual-matching damage type so that these weapons may be added. Those that have little or no interest in wielding such weapons will cite the dev stated restriction and claim blunt weapons in the set as illogical.
Seems like the simplest way to sum this up is that no one is impolite enough yet to just post: 'You will never have Escrima Sticks in city of heroes, because the devs said so. Cry some more'.
. . . Lack of cohesion textdump go. There's meaning somewhere in this rant, but damned if I can find it. -
Quote:The wooden sword is really the sticking point for me. We HAVE a baseball bat correctly filed under mace. A mallet or a Frying Pan would look reasonable under Mace. (Actually, don't we have a carnie mallet? The silly wooden hammer?). But A sword should probably be using the Broadsword or Katana animations, not the Mace animations. Something like Dual Tonfa would probably look better with Dual Blades animation, or the Claws animations.Ridiculous? Actually, it is. It makes sense as the logical extension of an argument, but when it comes to physical damage, certain things just look silly. Weapons which are intended to cut and pierce need to LOOK like they can cut and pierce. While a wooden sword may sort of pass, a baseball bat would certainly NOT. Giving, say, a mallet or a frying pan to a sword set and letting you cut with that is no less ridiculous than giving a balloon animal sword to a sword set and letting you cut with THAT.
As an aside, being able to do fatal damage with balloon animals seems to be quite thematic for a jester/clown villain or Hero, I'd have no problem with something like that being included, silly or not.
Quote:Some things you can ignore for the sake of the rule of cool, but they still need to make sense. I can see a weapon which sparks electricity not doing electrical damage, but because it's cool and because you can have electrical sparks that don't damage tissue, but I cannot see stabbing a person with a bowling ball, say.
Quote:Talasorion weapon skins, don't have to do energy damage. They are force fields that produce sharp edges. Nothing says it has to produce energy damage as well.
I was speaking of a hypothetical, it was mentioned back when custom weapons where first introduced that the devs didn't have the time or tech to let us apply auras to our weapons, and so planned to do things like taking a selected broadsword and making versions of it that where fiery or electrical available.. -
I remember the 'nothing that seems like it would do a different damage type as a weapon skin' argument, and it annoyed me back when it was set as much as it does now.
Tsalorian weapons don't add energy damage to your attacks. An electrically crackling Warhammer wouldn't either. A flaming sword? Nope. Just straight Smethal damage. I think that having a wooden sword isn't THAT ridiculous.

Hero A: *swings a wooden sword*
Villain: Argh! Hey, what the hell? My combat window says that's lethal damage!
Hero A: Nope. Wooden sword.
Villain: Ahhh. I getcha. *wink* *Theatrically reels from the 'concussive blow'*
Hero B: *fires an Assault Rifle*
Villain: Argh! I'm bleeding! Oh, right through the gut! I'm gonna die!
Hero B: Actually, they're 'Rubber Bullets'.
Villain: Oh, okay then. Argh, aaah, these bruises! I'm getting dizzy! I'm gonna pass out!
Hero C: *Throws a fireball*
Villain: Oh god, I'm on fire! Stop! Drop! Roll!
Hero C: Actually, that's a summoned steam elemental.
Villain: Oh, okay then. Err. I'm damp and soggy? What?
Hero C: You choke on it and pass out.
Villain: Oooooh. Gasp! Gasp! I can't breathe! *whud*

Related aside: My Katana Scrapper has a macro'd taunt that quotes Sigfried from Soul Calibur upon victory. "I avoided your vitals. You'll live."
In real life, roughing up a thug with a bladed weapon just doesn't work. I'm aware of that, and know that even non-fatal wounds like that would risk accidental murder. I just handwave it because City of Heroes isn't very deconstructionist. It doesn't penalize you for doing stuff that is very classically heroic but in real life is really dumb.
That's why I don't call out people for wearing flashy but impractical spandex, or tell them that their capes will get stuck in a jet engine (Ala Incredibles, loved the movie, hated that sequence). -
Quote:I disagree only on the matter of the Energy blast, which I think had the colors separate well instead of blending into a mess like the Radiation powers did.I'll probably get neg-repped for this, but I'm going to go against the grain and say that the Energy Blast and Rad toggles look kind of... ugly. The Dark palette doesn't really handle light colours too well, and the result is a very muddy look. IMO, you'll probably be able to make something a bit more pleasing to the eye with a honey, pollen, or floral theme. I'd keep trying to find a balance between concept and aesthetics.
I'm sadly creatively bankrupt as to how I'd have a 'Floral' theme, or an appropriately 'Honey' theme without just going a fairly generic gold/yellow.
I'd have gone with thermal radiation instead of Force Fields for that sort of concept. . . I can't really blame him for trying to make his Force Fields more fiery rather than being forced to re-roll when i16 hit and made that an option. -
After some fiddling, I came down with an Energy Blast/Radiation sets, looking like this:

Sufficiently Bee-Like? -
I'd rather not go through 45 levels before the concept pays off. . . Although, I will be making use of those bees-in-a-jar. Presuming this alt is a villain. Which she probably will be. Because bees are terrifying.
-
Quote:. . . .What? Folks ether?Something with storm perhaps? I'm suggesting that based on that if you get into your folks ether, tornado really could appear to be a swarm of bees. Some of the other powers could conceivably work - but you'd need something stronger than ether.
Quote:Dark Miasma, You can color it just perfectly to fit a swarm of bees.
With my blessing, since I won't be able to scrape up enough money for some extra slots for a while.
Post screenshots, though. -
Quote:I rather like this idea. And I can see turning the poison gold/yellow to represent mysterious addiction honey that she's got the thugs hooked on.Originally Posted by Tir_McDohlFirst thing that comes to mind is a mastermind with punks/poison, to represent a street gang being "hive'd" by some sort of weird mutant.
Although, with the dual pistols. It's going to be hard to resist the horrible pun and name her 'GunStinger'.
Quote:Originally Posted by Ninth CloudAnything + Rad Emission... color it black and brown. the debuffs would simulate a swarm nicely, as you can get them to look kind of dusty/cloud-like if you use dark colors.
Now, what do Defender/Corruptors have that are a good match for a bee soldier. . . -
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...l/Beewoman.jpg
A while back, I designed the costume linked above for a future alt, but eventually shelved the idea for lack of a good way to represent insect control powers. However, with i16 running, we now have the powerful tool of Power Customization to work with. However, I've been working on the concept for a while and can't seem to force any of the power-sets to appropriately represent anything that would make me think 'Oh, No! Bees!'
So, do any of you have suggestions? -
