Since Villian the Villain died while fighting Blotto the Clown it's only reasonable. Maybe the premise could be that Villian keeps on getting cloned, fighting Blotto, and then dying? The ghosts of all the dead Villians could form their own town. A villainous Ghost-Town of Villians.

Lights keep flickering, but so far still have power. A fair number of friends in the same area are without power, so no guarantees. Of course i'm a bit north of Jersey, so outside the worst of it, but not by much.

i'm betting it's close enough to me that i've laid in a supply of water, firewood, batteries, and dry/canned foods.
Already received a message that the studio will be closed tomorrow, so no work either.
Rum time! -
Quote:Saying it poorly as well. Most MMOs start cutting back on the staff and slowing development down long before shutting down. Some have continued for years with little more than a support staff before shutting down. Paragon Studios went from full speed ahead on multiple projects to terminated with no warning in less than a day. That is not a very common event. "Just saying."I personally do not feel I was treated shabbily by NCSoft. They gave me a 90 day notice that CoH was shutting down...more than most MMOs get. They could have easily given a 30 day notice...just saying.
Quote:Loyal customers? Where were all these LOYAL customers a year ago..6 months ago?? Just like any funeral...people come out of the woodwork to praise the deceased when they couldn't be bothered 6 months ago or a year ago to give CoH a second thought.
*Broken up is a synonym for gloatingly, condescendingly dismissive of those who actually liked the game, right? If not i'm probably using the wrong term. -

Quote:Morality does have something to do with it. Albeit nowhere near the level of animal abuse, slavery or genocide, but then only the most overwrought on either side would claim otherwise. Morality is not a binary choice between everything's hunky-dory and GENOCIDE!, that's just silly. Someone deciding to steal a candy bar or pet a kitten is making a moral choice, just not a very significant one.Please. Morality has nothing to do with it. They aren't killing puppies or withholding the cure for cancer in order to drive the price up. They're discontinuing an under performing product line in an increasingly difficult market.
Now, it seems odd that NCsoft didn't cite CoH's lack of profitability as their reason for shutting it down since they've done so for other titles. All the more so considering the abruptness with which it was done, going from full-bore development on at least two titles to "as of today you're all laid off" in one day, and that most financial analyses suggest that the game was viable, if not exactly a profit blockbuster. There are older MMOs still going with smaller player bases. i still think it was most likely more a case of making an example of CoH as a dramatic show of NCsoft's commitment to their new direction.
Still, what's done is done at this point. City of Heroes will be shut down fairly soon and will most likely never come back as the game we currently know. While i find the [anti-CoH/CoH deserved this] posters' need to constantly belittle and heap scorn on the CoH fans who aren't happy about losing a game they love a bit bemusing i'm reluctant to see it as anything more than a combination of sour grapes and schadenfreude. -
Quote:Well, Oliver Queen is seeking what he considers justice, but maybe the class warfare subtext blurs it a bit.The Hood (I can't really call him Green Arrow at this point): Way too dark and nasty, I get the whole revenge plot, but it's just not Green Arrow.
How I'd fix: Make him accidentally kill an innocent, have a heartrending scene of anguish, then have him decide to reinvent his hero persona into more of the Green Arrow we were expecting. I might even have the "new" Green Arrow bring "The Hood" to justice with some hero trickery.
As for Deadshot, maybe it'll turn out that Deadshot's eyepiece thingie saved his life or something. i hope so, since he's one of my favorite characters in the DC universe, and it's just idiotic to throw him away as a bumbling incompetent who shows up for one episode and then dies. (Incidentally, the most recent issue of Suicide Squad has Deadshot being, well... Deadshot, and possibly dead in the DC(N52)U now as well.) -
i think sections of Perez and Nerva are the best fit. Although some parts of Eden could work as well.
....Aw, now i want to do at least a couple more Eden Trials before the game shuts down. -
Quote:This is truth. While some of the greater variety of discussion it permitted was nice for a while it has also allowed greater asshattery as well. Even worse (from my point of view) i let the greater profusion of aggressive stupidity and general acrimony provoke me into being a bit meaner despite the number of times i stopped before submitting. i've decided to resume using the ignore feature and let others deal with countering the more chronically stupid and malicious posters. The remaining Paragon staff who have been moderating the forums have been extremely forgiving and understanding, one has to act like a colossal pancake to get moderated or banned.
It improved my mood when browsing the forums.
i wouldn't be a bit surprised if the banned account rumor did in fact come from a certain former player who did a very dumb thing and then tried to claim it wasn't his fault when it got his account banned instead of trying to fix it. i'd had no issues with him in the past, but when he aggressively refused to understand simple English and logic... It was like he'd been infected by some sort of evil legacy of distorting facts to align with his rigidly set beliefs instead of adjusting his beliefs to align with newly learned facts.
i certainly haven't been banned for criticizing NCsoft, and i haven't been silent in my criticism. Although admittedly i also haven't been the sort of person who claims they're the fount of all evil just because they made a decision that i disagree with and that i consider to have been a bad decision that was badly (oh so very badly) implemented. -
Quote:i have to admit i rather enjoyed Spider-Man 2099, and wouldn't mind seeing Miguel show up in the regular (now with all-new minty freshness!) Marvel universe. Sure, some of the plotholes and gaps in logic were reserved for transporting UR-500s to the launch pad, but it was a fun read and i liked the Miguel/Spider-Man character.Already an article on Newsarama that seems to think that it's just Slott trying to troll and mislead the fanbase. Honestly I really woudn't mind O'Hara taking up the mantle of Spider-Man.

This is a great tribute to the game, theHedoren, very nicely done. Thank you for making it.

Quote:With you playing the part of yellow, yes. Except not since i6, but since the end of August. Seriously, this is the last time i'm bothering to acknowledge you since you are obviously just not clueless, but willfully ignorant and contrarian. You constantly misinterpret, distort, and exaggerate, and i'm pretty confident it's not even really conscious. It's not worth pointing out when you're irrefutably wrong since you'll either ignore it or through some arational process convince yourself that being wrong means you were actually right. You're less like a brick wall and more like an unfunhouse mirror. All these threads just start looking the same.
"NCsoft sucks"
"Your opinion is invalid, they're allowed"
"They still suck"
"Your opinion is still invalid because you're being illegal"
"It's not illegal"
"Yes it is"
"No it's not, here's why"
"Yeah whatever you're still bad people"
Ugh. Can we go back to discussing lore or something? Maybe talk about the stories we would have gotten in i24? -
Well, the point as far as i was concerned was that it meant he disagreed with the post in particular, not just being generally contrarian to whatever the poster posted. The difference being that it wasn't who posted so much as what was posted.
-
He just did.
Jranger would say no to any idea he disagreed with. Now, when pressed for an explanation of why he would provide one, but otherwise he would simply say no. In all the instances i recall it was always in reply to a specific post or point he disagreed with. -

i don't think i will even attempt to figure my total hours out. How would i factor in all the hours put into the deleted characters, especially those who were 30+? Just trying to log in every existing character to get their current totals would take over an hour.
i suppose if i had access to the databases it might be possible to get an accurate total. -
Lucky666 and the OP have a fair number of traits in common.

Given the opportunity, yes. However, in actuality i would have significant technical hurdles. i currently do not have access to the hardware or bandwidth to effectively run an emulator.

i think i got something in my eye while watching that.

Thanks for everything, i'll really miss you and the rest of the Dev team, but this...

Quote:i'm guessing you mean unlimited server transfers as often as whim dictated since we were already getting one free transfer a month with a subscription. Obviously it was not impossible to grant more since there were times when we were given more than the one a month. To be good about answering the question, me personally, I don't like to pay for moving my toon from one server to another to be able to team. I had always hoped that like texting this feature would eventually become "free" or at least included in the cost of subscription.
As for the original premise... i wouldn't even care if i had to start over with new characters, but i would be rather annoyed if i lost access to all the perks, powersets, and costume pieces i've unlocked over the years. -
i know it should be obvious, but just to make it absolutely clear, those making credible efforts included NCsoft?
