Quote:In my view you pay $10 for the costume pieces and the power and emotes are free. The costume pieces were definitely emphasized more in the promotion of the pack. Or you could look at it as being a less than $1 power if you divided the cost of the pack by the number of costume pieces and powers it gave you and counted the emotes as being freebies.I think the damage for Self-Destruction is fine, extra damage would be nice but nothing in comparison to accuracy. Whenever I try using the power, I usually get around 1-3 enemies around half the time, and all the other enemies just stand there like 'Ho hum...'.
If the accuracy was set higher, 1.2x or even 1.1x, it would be less frustrating when a group gets away from a string of bad-luck misses. For a power you have to pay $10 for, I would expect a 90-95% hit rate on a power that kills me and can only be activated per hour.
i tend to pop a yellow or two right before triggering the power anyway. i rarely use it past the early teens, and at that level it easily decimates even con minions and lieutenants, and will even take out bosses if you soften them up a bit first. If you can lay out a bit of AoE before exploding it's easy to wipe out most +1 or +2 enemies in the early levels. After that i generally only use it for the occasional amusing moment. Like right before i'm about to level. Dingrezzing from Self Destruct xp is very amusing to me. -
Hell, they could release a completely unrelated to Mutants booster pack next, much like the Valkyrie pack had nothing to do with the origins booster series.

Quote:Like the kerfuffle over the revamp of the Gladiator shoulders a few months back?basically the reason appears to be:
whenever a costume piece has been changed, and there have been a few, there is an uproar from the people who liked it as was.
just like powers, you and I may not like piece X as it is, but someone does. They don't like the thought of them changing.
Add , don't change existing is the bets guideline -
Quote:*heh*Why did they change the name of the Talsorian weapons to vanguard? Talsorian was SOOOO much cooler of a name than lame Vanguard is
. Change it back!!! :P
This was also discussed (much) earlier the same day you posted this in a thread created in the Player Questions section. Has a few more pieces of info/insights that might be of interest regarding the name change. -
i have an Invuln/SS Tanker named Scrapyard Joe on two servers who has Self Destruct set to auto. He's a robot(?) that was put together by the owner of a junkyard where a lot of destroyed hero and villain gear gets dumped. Sort of resembles a mass of battered, mismatched robotic and cybernetic parts. Thoroughly nice fellow even if he is a bit glitchy and prone to exploding.

Well... said?
Anyway, one of my most disturbing villains is Eidolon of Agony, a mind/spines Dominator. His bio mentions the procedures that altered his body and mind, allowing him, among other things, to share his pain with others and his ultimate goal of achieving transcendence by reaching the bliss on the other side of infinite pain. Actually the bio describes it a little better than that, but i can't currently access the game or the original text right now since my computer wouldn't POST when i got home last night.
i have several other disturbing characters, either for the concept, the squick or both, but i'd have to look them up, which is a bit difficult at the moment. -
Quote:On a related note, most of the technology SO's are described as being cybernetic augmentations, not bits of strapped-on tech.I can't say I agree with you completely on where the border between science and technology lies. I don't want to discuss existing characters, but let me put it like this - just the ability to remove the tech piece is not enough to serve as a distinction. Cybernetics are an extreme example, granted, but something as simple as an arm cannon sewn into your hand would still be Technology, because you're using technology to shoot things. Science, at least as presented in the game, is more genetic engineering, enforced mutations and so on. When you start grafting machines to the body, you're slipping into the realm of Technology.
And, of course, as with most origins-related discussions, this is just my opinion.
Regarding the Superman portion of the discussion: As for Superman being natural, not sure if it is/was canon, but i recall reading somewhere years ago that Kryptonian metabolism is partially fueled by solar radiation, and exposure to the light of more energetic stars supercharged their metabolism granting them capabilities far greater than normal. i think that might have been part of the Byrne interpretation of Superman, but i'm not sure. As for the spectrum of a red sun instantly suppressing their powers... i have no idea how that was rationalized in comic book science. But then consider the whole thing about the various colors of Kryptonite. Um, a wizard did it? -
Quote:Exactly my point.which makes a difference. a general SO slotting would be 2 acc 3 dmg 1 rech. or 2 acc generics 2 dmg generics and 2 rech generics. while frankenslotting you can can probably get the equivilant of say 3 acc 3 dmg and 3 rech plus a lil end redux for the same amount of slots.
always keep in mind powers like Mind Link for NW and Forts, while they dont accept recharge enhancements, they except defense IO sets that include things like def/rech and def/rech/end which affect the recharge. so a SOed NW will have a normal mind link where as a frankenslotting widow (slotting 6 different def/rech or something) would have mind link come up alot faster. -

Quote:EU=Europeanwhat are the EU and NA forums? sorry again I was gone for the last 3 years and am trying to relearn everything.
NA=North America
Previously there were separate forums and server sites for European and American players. The forums were merged several months ago and now only the server sites are separated. -
One question: how are you going to determine if they're using IO's?
Frankenslotting and regular IO's can give far higher values than SO slotting with no set bonuses. Are you going to spar with each entrant and then analyze the combat logs before each bout? Otherwise they could, you know, switch to a standard IO/Frankenslot build before starting the match.... -

Quote:i just spent a little while browsing the revived R. Talsorian site. Owning many of their games, and having enjoyed much of the design of Cyberpunk 2020, Mekton Zeta and Cybergeneration, i wonder if those currently running things have any connection with the original people. Much of the site has the mid-90's high school student's Geocities page look and feel, with similar design and loading speeds, and the promotional/introductory materials have typos along the lines of spelling character 'charcter'. No animated .gifs of dripping blood or spinning skulls as section breaks, so i guess it wasn't quite that bad. Still, it made me a little sad.The Talsorian weapons/ Vanguard merit weapons were a nod to R. Talsorian game company.
Edit: *heh* They spell Falkenstein 'Falkenstien' directly opposite an image of the game's cover that shows the correct spelling...
Edit 2: Actually, the more i browse the site the sadder i feel. Wow, it's... not good. -
Quote:"whelp, I've got both those genes."Not sure if there is much to this myth, but I recently heard from a couple sources that it was recently discovered the ability to break asparagus down and produce that enzyme that makes your urine stink is genetically determined. (As in some people don't get stinky pee after eating asparagus...) Similarly, the gene to detect that odor is also limited by genes. Supposedly some of us can smell that stink and others can't.
Though the double blind study with numerous unwitting volunteers is actually pretty easy to imagine, it seems everyone who has ever been in the room when this particularly recent (to my knowledge) myth or assertion is brought up--they all say something to the effect of "whelp, I've got both those genes."
Conversely, I sometimes think the genes that determine one's fondness for role play tend to be much rarer... we're gingers amongst a sea of brunettes.
And no icing on the bathroom walls here. Any roleplay is of a single type, not both at once.
On that note, i'm not surprised i saw posts about 'variant' applications of the new booster's pushup emote within hours of it being released. The instant i saw the video in the release i expected as much. -
Quote:Excellent! /e thumbsupThe problem is that emotes now work while in combat modes, but the costume change animations were not flagged to interrupt some of the combat modes. It's already been fixed on my end, just waiting for it to percolate into a build.
Just FYI, some more changes coming to the Ninja Run animations in the near future:
- Going to look at the deformation in the spine during some of the jump moves. Looks especially odd on some of the female models because of how the geometry is built/weighted
- Dual Pistols/Claws will be getting a more appropriate set of animations (namely the ready stance and runs)
- "Shotgun" mode will be getting a more appropriate set of animations.
- Shield combat mode (without a weapon) will be getting a more appropriate set of animations.
Jay and Cheryl are also looking into various issues with costume pieces. -
Quote:Ah, in any event, i wanted to post the list of buggy face shape settings for the record.Well she asked me that in an earlier Question before she asked me another Q that you now are quoting. Read farther up the thread. That was already covered.
As she asked me before I did not change the shape of the head. Which was the first Q. Her second was if changed my face settings to one of the NEW faces that came out in one the more recent expansions. -
Quote:Sapphire7 was referring to the Shape (preset geometry) setting for the faces, not the Face (texture) setting.Face 10 is what I am using. It does it to all the faces though. Even when you make a new character.
The shape settings are:
Average 1
Average 2
Average 3
Average 4
Youthful
Strong
Intellectual
Thin
Square
Bold settings do not cause bald spots for Braided Buns, underlined settings do. So 5 out of 9 settings cause female pattern baldness. My guess is that the buns are being pulled a little too tight. -
Quote:When i said better i was referring to how the powers work, not their appearance. CJ is better numerically in that you gain far more advantages running CJ than NR when in combat. That is not relative. NR looks cool, but is mechanically inferior in combat. And that's even ignoring CJ's defense buff. Now when traveling i consider NR to be clearly superior to CJ, both in function and looks.'better' is SO relative. I just ran a few missions on a well-IOed (enough to compensate for the End cost and still go full speed) Claws/Nin Stalker. Left Ninja Run on the whole time, tapping the space bar every so often in the fights just for fun.
Oh, yes. Good, good stuff.
Big thanks to the developers.
Please note: I wouldn't scream too loudly if it didn't suppress in PvE... -
Quote:Actually, -res and +dam are more important than -regen in most AV fights. There are only a couple AV's where -regen is more significant. Madame of Mystery comes to mind. Also most GM fights benefit more from -regen IIRC.This is pretty much the bottom line, the AV. The rest of the TF, being just regular missions, requires only enough damage so you can progress at a decent pace. To take out the AV, having some -regen helps a lot. If you don't have -regen, then having -resist or +damage helps to beat the AV down.

Quote:Based on the Nick Fury and His Howling Commandos comics and all the other titles he's appeared in since then it's a pretty good bet that Nick Fury has martial arts training. And by that i mean extensive training in hand to hand combat techniques. Even if someone takes martial arts to only refer to combat techniques developed in Asian countries (sorry, rest of the world, but none of your melee combat styles count), all modern hand to hand combat schools involve some techniques of Asian origin in their styles.Batman and Daredevil are both martial arts. :/
Martial means war-like, so Nick Fury applies, as well. Unless you think he has no combat training.
And the warrior helmet pieces have given me some bad-*** armor designs that have nothing to do with ninja or samurai. -
Lord Typo. He uses his power to alter letters to create subtle errors in medical and heavy equipment documentation to cause accidents that result in death and mutilation. In his spare time he induces errors in internet forum posts to strengthen and refine his powers. (It's like a cardio workout for him.) You may even have unknowingly been a victim.

Quote:Because an answer that is not the answer you want is the same as no answer at all?Growth/shrink isn't possible in City without a total overhaul, so no, it's very doubtful to be considered down the road for City.
Maybe City 2, if they make it. *IF* they make it, and *IF* that engine is capable.
I've stated this before. Why do you seem to be insisting that no one is answering you?
Besides, there must be dozens of players intimately familiar with the coding and interaction of all the various systems that make up the game who aren't giving the OP a detailed rundown on the exact capabilities and potential of the client and server architecture and potential extensions thereof that aren't telling him just to be mean. i guess.
Or maybe he expects someone in charge at Paragon Studios to drop everything and give him an extensive analysis of the potentials and limitations of the game's systems. After all, it's called "Player Questions" not "Player Questions and Answers". You'd have to read the slightly smaller print to know that both the questions and answers in this forum are provided by the playerbase.
Also, doing your own research is hard. i'd provide links proving this, but i don't want to do the research to find them.
