Quote:*heh* i remember when a Dev explained that the Longbow Nullifiers didn't actually have a detoggle power. It was just something like a mag 60 hold with a half second duration. Or their disruption grenades with stacking -res that couldn't be resisted. And back when mezzes killed all toggles. Longbow Nullifiers were awesome Brute killers when playing one with resist-based armor sets on large teams. One Longbow spawn could put your resistance in the negatives before the nullifier killed all your armor toggles. My DM/Elec was wiped by Longbow ambushes attacking the teams in less than three seconds sometimes just from massively stacked irresistable debuffs and AoE splash damage. Good times.Hmm. I can see why they took it away from them, but they really should change the text for 'Nullifiers'...who don't actually nullify anything.

Quote:Nope. Being bothered by it is a matter of opinion, and some people are bothered by pink icing on cupcakes.Ok, I get that its cool and all the some people have 2, 3, or maybe more computers. They log on 2 seprate computers, make 2 diffrent characters, or 2 of the same character, to have a self twin combo, which is fine in concept, but usually a bad thing when they want to team.
Im curious as to what makes people that do this, belive they can handle the focus of 2 Characters at once? They usually do a poor job controlling to characters, because its not possible for 99% of people in general to do such a thing, and would take special keyboard set ups to allow you to fully use 1 on each hand, then your attention would get diverted if lag hit one computer, and one of them went in another direction. Then recharging toggles, HPs, Endurance, ect.Theres just alot of variables and things to pay attention to.
Not saying its impossible, im saying its highly improbable.
Iv gotten into the habit of leaving a team when 2 people join, or the team leader makes me, and everyone else aware that he is Dual Boxing.Thats asking for team wipes, I have never been on a team that had a player Dual Boxing, and NOT had a team whipe.
I dont often run into this, but when I do, I get irritated, am I wrong to be bothered by this?
Dual boxing allows a player with two accounts to easily solo (solo player, not character) content that many solo players otherwise find difficult. It takes a fair amount of skill to dual box well, and even more to do it on a team. Still, i have teamed with a few players who can dual box effectively in a team setting, but i'm not surprised you haven't. Seriously, you're to ineffectual players what Psychoti is to twits in MMO's, you each seem to have magnetic fields that draw your respective irritant groups when playing an MMO. In Psychoti's case it's more hilarious for those of us who read his accounts of such encounters, and a case of opposites attracting.
While i think you're vastly overestimating how difficult dual boxing is i'm not surprised you've encountered a lot of bad dual boxers considering that it's easy to encounter players who have difficulty with controlling just one character at a time. That and the whole incompetence magnet thing. Look on the bright side: it makes for amusing anecdotes. -
Hmm, this could take a while to compile when i have the time.
Some of what i don't have will keep the list shorter.
Non-50 AT's: Tanker, Dom, Corruptor, MM and Blaster, but have some of each in the 40's.
Powersets not played past 30: Ninja, Kinetics, Fire Blast, Energy Assault, Energy Blast, Dual Blades, Poison.
Classic character concepts not used for any alts: Supernatural werewolf or vampire. (i do however have a 5th Column Vampyr themed Stalker who has sparkles with the mad scientist outfit.) X-Men style mutants. Descendant of a classical mythological god. Orphan driven by the death of his parents to hunt those he feels responsible. Last survivor of a superhuman race. Grim, humorless and wanksty (err, angsty) antihero. Hyper-evolved hivemind formed from a bacterial colony engineered to grow organic circuitry that took up residence in a tray of cole slaw in the research facility cafeteria when it was accidentally released, and then used its psychic powers to build a humanoid suit to house the sentient mass of cole slaw. Wait, i do have one of that last one. -
i just wanted to make sure that OP gets that the losing of set bonuses below the level of the IO's -3 is not a directly PvP-related design choice since it applies to all reductions in combat level in both PvE and PvP. It's one way to make lower level IO's of a given set more desirable for certain purposes and increases the amount of planning and choices that goes into slotting out a build.

Quote:Oh i agree even though my Dark/Ice only has 2 holds. It's just that i went with a full set of Cloud Senses in Dark Servant for all the yummy set bonuses in addition to the tohit debuff boost and proc damage. (A tohit debuff set damage proc should be pretty useful in a critter who debuffs tohit with 4 out of 5 powers.)Well, slotting more hold in Fluffy isn't a bad idea, if he throws out his own hold enough. Especially if you have multiple holds on your Dark/ as well.
I had 3 ST holds on my Dark/Ice for instance. -

Quote:And you get full rewards for anything defeated by Self Destruction. If you can trigger Self Destruction before dying it makes a tohit check right then, and even if you're defeated before the countdown finishes it deals its damage to every enemy that was in range and flagged as being hit when you activated the power as long as the enemy is still alive. Doesn't matter how far they run between it being triggered and it going off, if they're still up and the power 'hit' when you triggered it Self Destruction will deal full damage to them, although i think the damage gets canceled if you zone out before the countdown finishes.
Yes, it counts as an attack made by you even if you're defeated before it deals its damage.
(Yeah, posted this earlier, but people keep asking again and again anyway, so i thought bolding might make it clearer.) -
Quote:Well, yeah, they are. The drop rate was posted earlier in this thread. It's rather low by design. Honestly, unless RV is the only place you can fight 47+ enemies i'd try somewhere else for purple recipes. The diminishing returns effects in PvP zones reduce your effectiveness against NPC's compared to fighting them on PvE maps.I am currently hunting rares now, and I have fought for 3 days and several hours in Recluse Victory beating every minion and boss in the zone with no luck, but on a good note I got a level and cash to get Reactive Armor for my tank. But are rares suppose to be this hard to get?
i'd say the best to get purples is to fight enemies in a 48 or higher mission with enemies set to -1, x6 to x8, bosses yes.
My DM/Elec Brute does that with RWZ missions on occasion. i've gotten several purples that way, but not that many since i usually just do a couple missions as a warm up before joining a team. -
Quote:Proactive first when available, and reactive where the proactive measures don't catch everything, neh?If I could engrain just a small but of info into every new player of CoX.. it would be this:
Level 1-21: Heals beat debuffs/buffs (because until slotted SO/IO, most debuffs/buffs aren't as effective unless stacked).
Levels 22+: Buffs/debuffs beat heals (because of slotting and the non-linearity effect of buffs/debuffs, past this heals are a secondary, even to Emapthy.)
Yes heals have thier place, but if I'm healing with my Emp, it means im not covering enough of the team with Fort/Cm/AB/Auras.

Redside on teams with with numerous patch and rain powers rushing to the bank can be fun. Run into the bank ASAP and just start stacking the powers in front of the lobby door and watch as Longbow constantly pour into a churning stew of death. Especially with a Hurricane or two to keep them debuffed and unable to run out of the patches.

Quote:i use it in combat sometimes. If you can trigger it before falling it makes a tohit check right then, and even if you're defeated before the countdown finishes it deals its damage to every enemy that was in range and flagged as being hit when you activated the power as long as the enemy is still alive. Doesn't matter how far they run between it being triggered and it going off, if they're still up and the power 'hit' when you triggered it Self Destruction will deal full damage to them, although i think the damage gets canceled if you zone out before the countdown finishes. The mention of using Self-Destruct in the "The Most Convenient Way To Travel" thread got me to thinking...
1) Does anyone actually use this power for anything other than debtless hospital trips? I just can't see using it in combat - its long activation time means that, by the time a fight seems hopeless enough that you'll want to use it, you're likely to be dead before it goes off...
Quote:2) If Self-Destruct gets the killing blow, do you get XP and Inf for it? -
Eat some pez right before you kick his keister. Works wonders. i usually don't have any problems with him, but then i normally solo the first two safeguard missions on my squishies to avoid team-induced failure syndrome.

Quote:Wicked Wendy: The monsters in your second story sound like Storm Elementals. They only appear redside in a few end-game arcs... but if I recall correctly, it is a known bug that they appear in missions they shouldn't. Don't remember the whys and wherefores - anyone?Quote:If I recall, you would get this when you had an open newspaper mission while they did a major (or possibly any) patch.
When the fire fighting missions in Steel Canyon were in the works on test Storm Elementals would appear in place of where the fires spawn now. It was interesting. -
Quote:While slotting up Fluffy's hold aspect like BrandX did for the Basilisk's set bonus is useful, i actually went Psy Mastery on my D3 and used several Basilisk's Gaze and a couple from another set in Dominate. With Fluffy being so heavily slotted for tohit debuff he actually survives a surprising number of alpha-bait summons. i sometimes resummon him in the middle of a spawn to absorb alpha strikes, especially against fear-resistant, AoE-heavy groups like Nemesis. He used to be more standoffish, but it seems that his AI has been changed to make him prone to charging into the middle of enemy groups, which is where i usually want him so his Chill of the Night aura can add to the joy. With substantial recharge slotting i don't mind using Fluffy as a disposable pet. Besides, he's got a four minute lifespan until you need to resummon him even if you don't toss him at enemies. Thanks Schis, as I mentioned I haven't played the thing in months, probably close to over a year I'm guessing and I have Dark Servant in there so I must have used it but my mind is too old to recollect the personal gratification
And from the other posts I'm guessing my mode of thinking is off kilter atm, which is why I asked for the help...I value everyone's input..gonna rework the build in mid's..
My D3 has been mostly retired for a few years, but when i have time i'll see if i can dig up a Mids' recreation of my Dark/Ice's build. Most of the secondary set slotting should work as well for Dark Blast as far as sets go.
Highest def number on my Dark/Ice is 30%+ vs. ranged, but combined with Miasma's controls and debuffs it's generally more than enough. -
Quote:The Sealab 2021 zone. That's scienterrific, no?The majority of the zones are all modern ones
Underwater would be Atlantis - that's quite fantasy-ish
Quote:A lost world zone in South America or Africa, with dinosaurs and a mysterious ruiend city would be cool too. -
Quote:Yeah, don't think i can provide any useful help with your intended build after reading this. i suspect our playstyles and approaches to using Dark Miasma are far too radically different. Also I'm wondering if the Dark Servant is all that necessary as he will probably be more aggro bait than anything else. Definitely can't depend on his healing.
Healing is the last thing i consider when slotting Fluffy. After all, every single one of his powers except Pet Gaze debuffs tohit, and two of them are AoE.
My last Dark Miasmist to hit 50 six-slotted Fluffy with Clouded Senses. -

Quote:Not the same thing. Duck Dim Sum is probably referring to "Odinists" as many in the US tend to self-identify. Bear in mind that they do not necessarily have any ancestors from Scandinavia or Germany, but simply consider themselves the spiritual descendants of vikings. Very frequently also involved with or sympathetic to white supremacist and similar racist ideologies. Not all Odinists i've met are racist bigots, but in the US i will concede it seems to be a magnet for them, and that at least 75% of those i've met who identify themselves as such have been.My ancestors are from Scandinavia and Germany - and I'm not racist at all
Sad but all too often true. -

Quote:This.Respect? No one was disrespecting you. We're just warning you that you'll probably have some performance issues due to hardware.
Generally speaking, when a game (or any other software) lists "minimum hardware requirements", you should read it as "the software will run, but you WILL notice performance issues".
My system isn't precisely old, and it isn't that current either, so i run at medium to high settings depending on the specific settings, but nowhere near maxing everything out. i really want to see the Ultra Graphics Mode shinies when they come out, and right now a new system is hard to budget. Upgrading my current system to run Ultra Mode would be equivalent to building a new one anyway since i would have to install a new mobo, processor, PSU, RAM and graphics card(s).
At that point i might as well spend the money for a new case, optical drive and HD since i usually give my old systems to friends or family who could use them.
Still, if you tweak the game settings you can usually get good performance and overall appearance out of CoH even if it won't be quite as pretty as it is on a higher end system. Mostly a matter of looking at what your system's strengths and weaknesses are and adjusting settings accordingly. -
Quote:At this point there's relatively few acronyms regularly used in this game that catch me off guard. OTOH, i still don't know what DKP means. i like to think it stands for "Donkey Kong Points" as an homage to early video games.Hello gang, Xammy here ftw! After months of inactivity I've gone all crazy with the postin' last few days. I have been reading posts here for a great long time but now and again I feel somewhat noobish when I see Acronym after Acronym that I can't define. I can remember how silly it felt the first time I typed the entire "On my way" only to realize that omw meant the same thing all along.
There's a communication trouble occuring whenever I pass by an Acronym such as QOL or IIRC here and was wondering if there was a guide to commonly used Acronym's or phrases.
Also, what Acronym's have puzzled ya'll in the past?
Also, i tend to type "En route." more often than "OMW" even though the latter is quicker.
Quote:There are some incredibly obscure ones. I was on a TF and the leader advised it would go pretty quickly because they had a CS.
CS = Contact Sitter - a character who just sits at the contact for the ones that never give you a phone number.
*i always think "Computer Science"... -
i think at the least they'd have to change Dark Miasma up a bit, but do you really think that Traps would be that overpowered in Controller hands compared to Radiation Emission? (Or the 12 ton elephant in the room, Kinetics?) IIRC the more recent ports have involved tweaking the pets to be in line with AT mods, Traps' attacks won't get containment damage and Rad offers significant debuffs and potential for control stacking itself, although Traps' AoE controls are on a shorter timer than Rads'.

Quote:That was Mieux's position before TA received some buffs a while back; that is to say when it wasn't as good as it is today. He showed up in every thread where people were saying that TA underperformed compared to every other Defender Primary insisting it was actually more powerful if you knew how to play, testing and numbers be damned. TA was the awesome set for expert players and nubs should just avoid it since they weren't worthy or capable of basking in its glory.I'm trying to figure out if that's a clever way of saying the set is good for people who want more of a challenge, which also means it's fine how it is because it's supposed to suck.
i've tried TA with almost every AT that can use it. My Earth/TA Controller does quite well with it, but all the other alts have been deleted to make room for alts i find more rewarding. Like my FF/Archery Defender.
