Quote:Welcome to the game. All versions/boxes of the game give the same access with the caveat that Going Rogue will be needed to access the newest zones and powersets being added in a few weeks. However, the various editions come with different perks like costume sets, emotes and minor utility powers. Personally i suggest picking up the Good vs Evil edition if you can find it at a good price.Checking it now!
One other thing. I believe that I have the basic city of heroes version that came out on release. Am I better to re-sub or purchase the going Rogue complete expansion on the 17th of August. I also understand the architect edition is another expansion pack. Will I want to have all of these in order to get the fullest gameplay out of the game?
The wiki gives info on what the various editions give you, but it's sort of annoying to find the correct link on my phone.
The reason almost any team can do any content has more to do with the flexibility and overlap in capabilities of the various archetypes. And of course the ability to adjust mission difficulty. -
Apparently in the latest Dev video. Although "stop saying" definitely implies that it's something that's said frequently, but i've not really noticed it being said by the Devs outside of the video(s).
Really, the way the OP was presented seemed a bit petulant, but that may be a misreading on my part. Still, i'm pretty sure the overall Veruca Salt-ish impression i got from it wasn't totally my imagination.
Hey, i'd love to see staff fighting added to the game, but i'm aware of how insanely time consuming it would be. So i'm not stamping my feet saying "WANT NAO!" and i don't expect it to be added (if ever) in less than a year. -
How about Ocho Force?
i'd suggest Edison's Bastards out of pure randomness, but as mild as the term is even as an invective i suspect it wouldn't pass muster.

Quote:Keep in mind that you can also slot the Celerity and Unbounded Leap IOs in Sprint. i have a couple flying alts who did that simply because they dropped and the Freebird IO didn't.Thanks, useful tips. I don't now remember why I put all those slots in Petrifying Gaze.
I'm also looking at another key question: Stealth IOs. These have some utility, and certainly, the stealth from Shadow Fall isn't quite as much as I'd like for soloing.
It appears that there's three; Celerity (running abilities), Unbounded Leap (jumping abilities), and Freebird (flying abilities). The obvious candidate would be Hover. So a couple-few questions...
Quote:1. It seems like I still want an endurance reduction in Hover, at which point I might as well do the one from Freebird... Would a third slot, to get the set bonus, be worth anything to me?
i have 2 Dark Defenders that hit 50 so far: a Dark/Dark that was my second 50, and a Dark/Ice that was my first billionaire+. Both fly and use stealth IOs, but the Dark/Dark actually slotted the TP stealth IO before i found out how annoying it is.
As an aside, i really like slotting Dark Servant with a full set of Cloud Senses. It turns him into a debuffing monster with bonus proc damage, and gives some nice set bonuses. The recharge in the set is handy when using Fluffy as an alpha soaker. -
Quote:Between the various screenshots on the Going Rogue site and the ViDocs and other videos of stuff the Devs have revealed at cons you can get a feel for what some of the new sets will be like. When GR hits open beta expect to see pictures posted of all the known sets. It's not impossible that some sets won't be revealed until the expansion goes live. The Devs can be sneaky like that. Not really:
Plus the Alpha and Omega costumes from the booster that comes with the Complete Edition. Jay also told us he made 7 costume sets for Going Rogue so that would mean 1 to 3 more depending on if he was including the Alpha and Omega (wouldn't bet that he didn't). Now, no one who actually knows what those costumes look like can tell us, but it's probably not too hard to figure out what the first 3.
No word on I19 though. -
i'd be interested in doing this if it was Wednesdays, but not too late by Eastern time. 6 or 7 PST would be doable, but not too much after that.
As for AT, i'd be willing to bring anything. What with Praetoria and side switching i'd create an alt specifically for this team and level them up to at least whatever level is needed to join in, but without running any of the TF/SF/Trials beforehand. Personally i'd be most interested in playing a HEAT/VEAT, Defender, Controller, Corruptor, Dominator, Stalker or Scrapper. (^_^) -
*Languidly lobs marshmallows at the Stay Puft Mecha from a nearby marsh*
Dude, there's so much skunky smelling weeds in this marsh that i just can't get worked up about squishy doom. Like, dude, go crush that city. i don't care.
*makes peace sign while squelching contentedly*
(Somehow getting a frisson of Vogonity from this post. Maybe i should write "An Ode To a Small Lump of Green Putty I Found In My Armpit This Morning." Wait, that's already been done.) -
Quote:A few people who were in instances like missions or SG bases are still on, but most are afraid to see what great void awaits them if they try to exit.It was apparently a system wide crash, because I couldn't get past the login screen afterwards. And then the client crashed. Like an apocalypse sort of thing.

Quote:What server do you play on the most?See, that is a fine bio and a great, fitting name!
What I have been talking about would be the exact same bio, except the name would end up being "Shoelace Designer." The bio is detailed, the feel is not random, but the name has nothing to do with anything that went before for no apparent reason. It is quite bemusing when I encounter such bios.
(Not that i'm going to log in there and create characters with detailed bios about how they were critically injured during a Rikti attack and while recovering from their injuries were given a magic amulet that invokes the power of the Aztec jaguar god so that they could seek punish the Rikti and stop them from further corrupting the magic of the world and they now fight crime as the Secret Shopper! No, not at all.) -
Quote:It stays on the account until you upgrade it to a full account, and then you can continue playing that character.Quick question here, I've been outta the game for a while so my memory's hazy but if you have the 14-day trial version of CoH/CoV, does your character get erased after the trial or does it stay on the account so when I buy the game, everything's still there?
Edit: Info on trial account restrictions is here. Info on upgrading here. -

Quote:*huh* i didn't know that, i thought it was like other commands where "1" was on and "0" was off. That's really useful to know. Thanks.Just to expand on that, the number at the end is what the FPS will be an average over. '1' makes it at 'average' over one second, and higher is longer. I generally go with ~5 seconds, to get a good idea how things are going, trying to ignore any minor temporary blips.
i'd give you +rep, but that game is gone now. -
He's a Nobel prize-winning overambitious gentleman spy who must take medication to keep him sane. She's a strong-willed kleptomaniac mercenary from the wrong side of the tracks. They fight crime!

Quote:Hi. i remember you. Welcome back. Not sure how many of you remember me but I used to be a pretty frequent poster here.
Well, just recently I got an email about Issue 18 beta testing. I've been playing other games and been trying to find a new game that can hold my attention as much as this game has but I just can't seem to find one. Maybe I am just impatient or maybe other games are just not my cup of tea.
How many of you have quit for like a year and then come back again, and again and again?
This is my second time "coming back". Not sure how long I'll stick with it but this game is just like my "first love". Very hard to forget!!! I want to leave this game because I've just seen too much of it. This is still the game online game I've played.
Just pre-purchased last night. Demon Summoning starts out very strong.... almost too strong.
Demon Summoning is strong, but not always very pretty. While my DS MM is fun to play i find that solo works best. -
Quote:There is that. However it's not something to build a character around. If you're playing a support character and you're spending a significant amount of time teleporting other characters to yourself and rezzing them you're doing something wrong."Teleport and resurrect" has its uses, particularly if someone attempts to stealth a mission and fails.
Unless, of course, you're still below level twenty.
And the rest of the team is really awful at whatever it is they're doing. -
AFAIK the Devs have said nothing at all about Radiation for MMs on the forums.

Quote:*heh* The odds are pretty good i've seen you on Virtue since i tend to play there most of the time. Thanks for the offer Schis but it's really not hard for me to put together a TF on Virtue, so honestly, I'm not crying about the experience too much.
Quote:The two were actually in the SG Yes we PVP I believe. So yeah, PVP'ers <_<. Of course I don't think this reflects the PvP community as a whole. Alot of you guys are alright, I just keep running into the bad ones.
i know some very cool fans of PvP myself. i think the jerks in the PvP population give the other PvPers a worse reputation than the jerks in other subgroups because they tend to aggressively seek players to harass. i suspect it's because the jerk PvPers see the entire game as a competitive/PvP setting, just one where you can't use most of your powers against other players in most zones. -
Kitsune pretty much nailed it. Always remember that procs that are triggered only trigger off the power they're slotted in. For example: slot a tohit buff proc in an attack and it will only trigger when that attack is used, but the buff it supplies will apply to the character for as long as it lasts. Also, depending on the text/design of the proc, a proc's effect either affects the character that slotted the proc or the target(s) of the power that the proc was slotted into.

Quote:Besides, the Incarnate System will allow you to effectively gain more levels/abilities without increasing your actual (base?) level. Presumably the end game system Positron has mentioned will add threats that require these additional abilities to overcome them.I would add:
3. The psychological factor of making continual progress in gaining power. In the case of this game, that's gaining more slots and powers. This is quite a powerful incentive, and shouldn't be ignored.
I'll add, though, that even with the evidence why more levels would be a bad idea, I wouldn't want a level increase regardless. I'm perfectly content with level 50 as a level cap. -

Quote:While none of those are mine, i do sometimes make alts with names and bios similar to that just for the cognitive dissonance it causes. This has happened about 3 times in the last week or so.
I like to read the Bio for heroes I run into. I write them for my own heroes. Bios are usually interesting; I think they are great to read, whether good or bad. Some have been celebrated as Wonderfully BAD in various threads, and I have run into some that, with an economy of prose, are moving and/or profound. But what I have been encountering lately is different.
This is an example of the others I have seen. The Bio referenced Titans of the Greek pantheon, and gave a pretty detailed description of Kronos swallowing his children. But one Titan was different, special and favored of the gods... he escaped due to his tremendous power and skills, etc., etc., and ultimately came to Paragon City where he took the name of... Truck Driver Dude!
*record scratch sound effect*
Okay, name changed to protect the innocent, but it was such a VIOLENT disconnect to what had gone before! The Bio was not poorly written. It was not deliberately Random or Ironic. But I have no idea what inspired this Titan to take a name that had nothing to do with anything.
I later ran into an Amazon, different at birth than the others, etc., etc., who fought for Justice as... Walmart Cashier! Huh???
The level of detail that goes into the set-up is high. The prose is good. But it is as odd as a child being sent by his parents from their dying, exploding planet to Earth, where he is taken in by an older farm couple, etc., etc., and becomes Sandwich Maker Guy.
Having seen 3 or so lately like this greatly bemused me.
Quote:One of the reasons for silly names these days is simply because all the good names are taken. I find it harder and harder to get a good name for my characters.
And i've been riffing on the "They fight crime!" meme for a few years. My first 50 back in 2004/2005 has a bio describing how he's been bonded to a mystic artifact and concludes with "And together they fight crime!" The first time i recall seeing it was on the Hero System/Champions forums back in the nineties. -
i think Kheldarn wasn't thinking in terms of OP normally meaning Original Poster, which is the person who started the thread, but maybe the OP as the subject of the tangent they were replying to instead? Otherwise the context implies that any time G G posts cutesie one-liners with emoticons in place of punctuation in a thread it causes brain death in the person who started the thread. Which would be bad. And unlikely. And a good reason to not start threads.

What a jerk. And what an incompetent Scrapper. When i'm playing a Scrapper my whole goal is to find the biggest, nastiest or most dangerous to the rest of the team enemy in the spawn and take it down. Repeat until no enemies are left.
Look at the plus side: by kicking you and having half the team quit he virtually guaranteed he couldn't finish the TF.
Jake, if you want to try again i'd be willing to join and help. Though i think it would have to be on Champion, Infinity, Freedom, Victory or Virtue. i might have another 45+ or two on other servers, but i'd have to double check. -
