i think the nails mohawk would add more if it was a bihawk, trihawk, or even went full (cenobite) Pinhead. The Freakshow have several models with bihawks.

That was my impression from what i know of game design and a passing familiarity with a couple games and modders thereof, but not actually doing game mods i wasn't going to assume it was as irrelevant as it seemed to me. So, the original OpenGL comment was a misinformed and irrelevant dig, got it.

People use the term "engine" far too often when referring to any number of things. In this case, it may simply be how the world is put together. I don't pretend to know how their tools work, or how their world is built, but if I had to hazard a guess, it's probably less about moving something, and more about the consequences of that movement (how it affects collision, enemy and pet pathing, etc.).
That was my impression as well. While it's pretty apparent that the Dev tools have been upgraded many times over the years it's no surprise that altering zone geometry is non-trivial.

Thanks for the thoughts about SDKs and their relative strengths. i may not be a modder, but i like to know stuff. Seriously, every little bit gets added to the stuff i've read and seen elsewhere and sharpens the picture.
  3. *huh* Yet another where i wasn't opposed to it, but didn't feel especially enthusiastic about it until i saw the actual pieces.

    ....

Daaaayummmm, now there are a few pieces i can really use and really like! Y'all just keep making stuff i want when i actually see it, somehow. Very nice!

Gotta agree with Kirsten on needing more chainsaw and rusty weapons as well. Actually, a scrapyard bow would be pretty nice. Rusty leaf springs, bolts, ragged wrapped grip and lots of pulleys... (^_^)

Edit: One caveat is that the only piece that i think is sort of redundant and silly is the nail mohawk.

i'd like to see memorial statues of Psyche and Statesman added as well. Not necessarily in AP, but somewhere prominent.

To be fair I was only thinking about making the statue it self. Which appear to use the same model as the costume parts with a rock/granite texture applied. IT may also be baked into one piece. That much should be easy. I totally forgot about issues that might crop up placing it in the world-space, although if its that much of an issue it tells me that you guys need better dev tools. Maybe some sonic ones, eh?
Ugh. Please tell me you work on MMOs or some similar sort of 3D game world building occupation. Otherwise you remind me of people i deal with in daily life who think some things are easy because they know just enough about the abstract concepts and techniques of doing something to think that it's all easy to do in no time at all. And it's not a matter of outdated engines per se. Even things that seem straightforward and simple when you look at the basic design specs can involve many, many hours of work to actually execute.

Edit: Also, i'm not sure what OpenGL specifically has to do with editing the game world unless that was just a random "lulz@OpenGL" tossed in for extra denigration. Seriously, not a coder here, so i don't know how relevant the use of OpenGL is to editing zone geometry. Just because it seems irrelevant to me doesn't mean it is. Anyone?

    Ok, I give up!

Force Fields does not have a rez.

I made a bind, "It is your destiny to die here, no matter what else Force Fields shield you from your destiny is to ALWAYS DIE HERE" and people just "DERP" instead of "Force Fields doesn't have a REZ?!".

    Makes Force Fields fun again!

    That is not quite all!

The ability to cancel Teleport's hover effect would get my vote as well. Make it an interruptible hover: change it so that using movement keys (and possibly other powers) cancels it.

That's what i expected. To be honest i'm not sure if Ultimus was serious or just being silly by asking the question at all. The question seemed so absurd on its face that i was pretty sure it was the latter, but this is the intarwebz, so...

The only way i'd see it not working at all if all the squishies were ADHD-afflicted Blasters who only used their primary and secondary powers or there were (other) PEBKAC issues. Of course PEBKAC can occur with any team composition, but team of squishies more frequently equals absurdly OP in the hands of experienced players.

Thematically Tankers are supposed to be the most durable melee archetype around while doing less damage than the other melee archetypes. That is their theme by design. (Now, you may feel that Tankers should be both tougher and deal more damage than any other archetype, but in any game designed primarily around combat by someone not completely unconcerned with fairness or balance that is a non-starter.) Since the other melee archetypes can come close to Tanker survivability, and even equal it in most ordinary combat situations*, that implies that you want Tankers to be even more durable than they presently are.

*This generally requires usage of IO sets when comparing like powersets. If you feel that that means Tankers should be able to use IOs to increase damage as a sort of parity/counterbalance to other ATs gaining increased survivability from IOs then an increase in the damage cap and increased damage bonuses from sets would make sense. However, that would not be addressing a "thematic failing" since the Tanker's theme is that with great survivability comes reduced damage.

(i do not put a point specifically at the end of my posts, or if i do i make it a point that actually contains information.)

As for everyone else commenting about my previous post, I just figured it would be a way to throw tankers a bone without giving them too much.
That's a point in that it would give most Tanker combinations very little in normal gameplay, but would give a few combinations quite a bit. My SD/SS would see far more benefit from the change than my FA/SM.

Actually, in my opinion your regular build is the selfish build. It's not terrible at healing, but that's like building a Rad/EM Blaster as a Stunner. Taking only attacks that can stun whenever possible and slotting them solely for stun effects and avoiding any abilities that don't help you stun in some way whenever possible can make you fairly effective at locking down a boss, but it makes you very nearly an impediment on any team where stunning enemies isn't very useful.

Past the teens that's pretty much what a healing-focused build on any AT amounts to for the most part.

But i'm fine with you playing that way if that's what you want. i've joined PuGs with Empaths who took Medicine, and if i'm looking for entertainment i might stay around for a few missions, but otherwise i generally make a polite excuse and leave the team as soon as it's convenient. Simply put the build you apparently consider non-selfish is relatively ineffective past 16 or so. Then again so are MAN builds, but at least those are intentionally sub-optimal, and the players playing them are usually skilled enough and self-aware enough of the build they're playing that they're still good teammates. Players who think focusing on healing makes them the lynchpin of a team, or even especially useful are, to put it bluntly, not.

If you've got a group of players that your playstyle works well with and who place great value on your contributions i would say you should hold onto them with all your might. All too often they lose that certain charm as they learn more about how the game works and increase in skill. A player who maintains the initial mindset is a rare thing to have. In the end it's about having fun, not whether the team can crank things above base difficulty.
  21. Ooh, i get to save my points another week. Mostly because i've owned all the featured costume pieces since they were first available and i generally don't bother with SBEs.

i saw the same sort of thing in a global channel a couple weeks ago. The player in question only plays on one server AFAIK and it's not Virtue or Union. OTOH it wasn't that much racier than what he tends to chat about in globals anyway, just as an ERP statement rather than discussing more general interests.

However, since they revamped the first levels experience in Paragon and the Rogue Isles for CoH Freedom (Sept 2011), I have found myself playing exclusively Hero/Villain content.

After one year, and with the new powersets coming out, I decided to go back to Praetoria and try to stay there as much as possible, without setting foot in Primal Earth. My Water Blast/Time Corruptor named Atlantea has been doing well, she finished all the original Praetorian arcs... it was a quite lonely ride I have to say, I think DBF has killed Praetoria just 1 year after the zones were released. Anyway, staying on topic... I changed sides as many times as possible, and ended being a Resitance member. Funny enough, both sides offered me the final mission to go to Primal Earth (Provost Marchand and Steve Sheridan). I got both for fun, tempted to do first one and go, let’s say villain, then the other and go heroe, to see if I break the server.

Anyway, she didn’t complete any of the two “Cross the Rift thingie” missions because that would break my “only Praetoria experiment”. Instead she went through the Praetorian underground to First Ward and I am getting missions there without problems. Blind Makwa wants me to collect something from some graves (creepy!) that are surrounded by purple enemies. So now I have resorted to the “newspaper” missions from Roadflare to get some levels.

I guess I will have to live in First Ward until I am lvl 30, then I can move to Night Ward... problem is, what to do after finishing Night Ward at lvl 35? Wait in the hope they release new Praetorian content that bridges the gap to lvl 50? Someone knows if I can still go to Primal Earth and join teams for missions? Or do some kind of missions in Primal Earth without being Heroe-Villain/stop being Praetorian, maybe Vanguard ones? Probably I will get stuck and finally go Primal...

I am wondering if anyone has done something similar before and what have been their experiences.

    Cheers
    @Arda
IIRC some of the Night Ward contacts give out missions that scale all the way up to 50. Don't recall if that applies to the repeatable mission contacts.
