  1. Pretty old news but there'd be no danger of our GG getting generic'd cuz she's very different and the Marvel Golden Girl has not been used in decades.

  3. Back in the day, when there used to be an EU office they had an intern called Aero_ who would post on the boards using a purplish/pinkish name. I suspect this is somewhat similar.
  4. This is a pretty good discussion of War Witch's true status in game - and it wouldn't be difficult to give her a gig as a trainer and a TF contact. To misquote a line from a famous movie: "One alive, one not, but both in Pocket D"

I've only just kind of touched on the periphery of this... it seems to have largely passed by anyone who is not directly involved (ie happens to have taken part) which seems kind of sad. I love these kind of events and would gladly take part in as many as I could.

    *@$/?#~!

Pressing a steel plate about 90x90 cms - it was on a chain and I bent it in a brake press then it bounced out of the press and smacked me straight in the face. How it never took my head off I'll never know, but it crushed the cartilage in my nose and took ages to heal.

I would hazard a guess that I17 may come at the same time or just after GR. Given there will need to be a patch or two when GR comes out for the 'connecting' parts and all that.

    Add that to this:

GR is probably going to bring back a lot of people to the game as it stands. But once they've run through the content, some will clutter off to other games and work through them too. That is pretty well the nature of the games industry after all.

"END GAME" (hmmm will people start referring to it as EG?) will be another massive hook to bring people back... to add that to EG to GR would be quite foolish from a finance point of view - and given that we've only just learned Posi's actually working on EG, I suspect it'll be a while.

In other words, don't put all your EGGRs in one basket.
  9. So, we've now got a new Lead Dev in Melissa "War Witch" Bianco which I personally believe is a very positive move for the game. Yet her in game persona, War Witch, lacks even the pizzaz she had in the comics.

In the comicbooks, War Witch was perky, feisty, fearless and fun - and made a great signature character - but her in game presence is a ghost, or a guide who makes the odd (somewhat wistful) wisecrack in Pocket D.

I believe that now that Melissa is in charge, War Witch should be elevated to some senior position in game - and get her own Task Force. There's precedent for this too - almost nobody in comics ever stays dead for long and War Witch herself demonstrates that by having two presences in game. Added to which, it became clear that when NCSoft took over the IP from Cryptic, Positron clearly became elevated in game and in the minds of the players. What's more it worked well, with the Positron/Daedalus thing but Posi was also at the forefront of Power Proliferation as Raymond Keyes discovered that hereoes and villains were able to do new things.

War Witch is a great character and it seems fitting that she should be able to build her in game presence too.
  10. As it stands, Rep is a cowards charter.

I'm pretty thick skinned but I've been quite surprised at some of the vituperative vitriol spewed forth my way via rep simply because I have not followed the herd. Some of the comments received go way beyond what would be acceptable in the forums and if anyone said similar to my face they'd be chewing on my knuckles before you could even say "Jack Spratt" (or something similar.)

It's anonymity allows those who don't have the wotsits to say what they think openly and within the rules of the forum to snipe and backstab.

I've only ever given neg rep about twice I think and when I have I've signed my name. There are a couple of other people who do that too, but the rest are simply mealy mouthed cowards ;-)

The big problem is that it places the onus on the recipient to get any offensive comments removed - and that then takes up time from mods who have better things to do - and the anonymity it affords makes little children very brave.

I have thought about turning it off but as people have pointed out it doesn't actually disable the Rep system it just prevents the results displaying. Added to which I'm not here to curry popularity - shooting sacred cows and tilting at windmills is a worthy method of operation at times and (hopefully) can make some people think, but on the whole I don't think the rep system adds anything positive to the general forum experience.

(and now watch my green blips turn red.)
  11. Great post and great responses!

I joined a month or two before I7 and I've played (apart from one very short break) ever since.

    This game rocks!

  14. Firstly congrats to all those promoted and moving. There's some great info in this post. Welcome to the new team too.

This makes me happy because I know from personal experience how accessible War Witch is and how passionate for the game she is. Not in any way to say Posi isn't but having met and interviewed War Witch I am have a very positive feeling about this. Actually I say interviewed but it became more of an open ongoing discussion than an interview - and it's evident that she has always been keen to take on board players perspectives.

Great stuff and I like the teasers for End Game content. That is potentially way more exciting than GR for me

Good stuff. What a way to start the weekend!!!!
  15. Great question

I've got several toons that know each other. Some are all in the same SG so are colleagues - but my main toon, Scarlet Shocker was caught by the Rikti in the 2nd Invasion and cloned as an experiment. Her clones were grown to various stages (artificially accellerated to account for time) and then let loose in the Rogue Isles - and historically that has generated some interesting and fun RP.
  16. I've been working in Mids for a respec for my Thugs/Poison - I wanted to junk the Leadership pool because End use was just too high. I decided to go for more general flex - the idea is I want to use him for duoing TFs with a buddy - so any thoughts and feedback would be welcome

Not only does that slow things down, but at low levels endurance is also usually a problem so protracted fights aren't pretty.

I usually keep it at +0 until I am level 20ish.

I was under the impression that lowbies had an acc bonus and it tapered off around lvl 10. I'm open to correction on that but especially once you've got the first vet reward power life becomes a lot easier.

To the OP, it will vary depending on toon, and mission but I will generally be +2 with AVs & Bosses. I might be +3 on my Brute but even with a good build Scarlet Shocker can't handle too many foes.

Once I've got Magma Mage fully slotted I suspect he'll be able to take on plenty more.

I tend to find the top level at which I can play and then hover around there. I like to play a challenging game, so I raise the diff a few notches then step down incrementally until I'm feeling like I'm winning but having to work for it.

I have used it effectively in teams, mostly when there's been an ambush or another mob aggroed by the team and we were in danger of being swamped under them all. I recall with some fondness being able to control three large spawns of Scrapyarders on my Mind Dom by Mass Confusing one, sticking Total Domination on another and Sleeping the third as they prepared to charge us. I was quite chuffed that day.

The other two things about Sleep is that it is resisted surprisingly little even by AVs and mobs who you wouldn't think would succumb to it. Also the IO sets for Sleep are dirt cheap and give some nice bonuses. Personally I love the Heal proc on both of mine as it can trigger on every target.

However, to get the most out of it, you have to be able to attack single targets, which outside of Dominate, Levitate and Mesmerise a Mind/Storm wouldn't have many of.
my other option is my Earth/thermal... again tons of AoE goodness but I've scrapped that. I believe also my plant/thorns dom has it... same problem.

Useful info re the sets tho...

The classic use of sleep redside is to have a mind dom AOE sleep (it is aggro less) the Freedom Phalanx. They have no super resistance to it. then single target pull them one at a time, and enjoy an easy ride to LRSF sucess.
I've got a mind troller, but with Storm as a secondary (I know, wierd combo) and he's rubbish at solo so I never bother. I guess with something like Ice secondary or ST attacks it works as a solo outfit but that's not sometihng I tend to do in any great deal
  21. Scarlet Shocker

    Sleep

Sleep is one of my least favourite powers but oddly I've got a few toons which have it available, since I have a number of toons with control capabilities.

Trouble is those toons tend to be AoE heavy and so the effect of sleep is negated immediately I fire my next power. If in a team with other AoErs then it's even more redundant.

That's a circle I've never been able to square - so hence I've tended to lose a relatively high tier power by not taking it - but recently I've seen some comments about how good it is - which hasn't been my experience.

So, if you use sleep, I'd be interested in why, how and under what situations.

TBH though, I kind of liked him as a guy with a gun, so I'm considering remaking him as a AR/?? Corr on another server. The only thing that's keeping me from doing that right now is the fact that I despise all the non-unlockable rifle models.

You can keep him as a very effective guy with a gun if you continue along the straightforward SoA path. Don't specialise into Crab or Bane.
  23. Plenty going on on Defiant to be honest. It might not be the most "active" in terms of numbers but there's a good community there, a very active channel in Defiant Events and there's usually a couple of server wide events per week and some TFs daily.
  24. I've always struggled with melee toons.

It took me ages to try one and I got my brute to 50 in autumn of last year but I've never had a scrapper past 15 and I'm just getting a tank to the 20s (and I've struggled even in good teams, but it's finally getting to be ok now.)

I've never tried Grav in an meaningful way or any form of Ice control but I do like my Ice/En blaster

I've been playing almost 4 years now I guess but I've still got lots I can do
  25. Maybe what you need to do is get a team together who don't have massive set bonuses and invite her to run the TFs with you. Give her practical experience of how it actually works.

Maybe build your second build with SO's only to demonstrate?
