So the Issue gets a subtitle of "The Ouroboros at the End of the Universe" then and we get to buy tickets and debate with our food...

His name was Palladium if memory serves

Ok maybe this is a little bit of overkill but I'm thinking if you're spending (almost literally?) billions on purpling out a toon, do you slot brawl and if so with what? I almost never use Brawl as an attack past level 10, so I've never really slotted it.
However it occurs to me that I might be missing a bit of a trick even if find a nice global that gives me like a 1 or 2% advantage. Am I correct and if so what do you guys recommend?
Oh and just for the record, premting anyone who might be tempted to make a wisecrack, I'm not intending to 6 slot it with Obliteration or something silly. I'm talking one IO, with an absolute max of 2 if I can really justify it. -
Very sad news for all those concerned who are now looking for work.
I am not ready to cry doom, far from it. This simply seems typical of NCSoft's generally ruthless attitude to their greatest resource. They seem to be very quick to wield the axe whenever it's deemed necessary. -
Quote:Just to mutate this topic further, it's Scarlet Shocker's fault, not mine. I gave an example which clearly refuted her point, but as people are wont to do she/he felt the need to argue with the EvilGeko.
This lizard can't run from a fight. Sadly, I've turned into this guy.

lol Happy to be of service. -
Quote:On the contrary, folk who were paying attention figured out what a merged market would look like shortly after I9. A factionally merged market would look just like the hero market, which is a 'merger' of various server populations that serves to smooth out supply/demand imbalances.
If pooling the servers was a good idea (it was) then pooling the factions was a good idea (it is, aside from the years they wasted letting ideology trump common sense).
And that's hardly the first them they were cosmically, ridiculously wrong about something.
Cosmically? Seriously? In a game? -
Quote:it is an absolutely valid point and one I raised earlier in one of these discussions- there is no value in answering the question "when did you stop beating your wife?" Ignoring it is the only rational response.
Only if that's the only question ever asked and we all know that's not the case. -
I think we'll probably get something along the PEAT lines but almost certainly not before there's a full 50 levels worth of content to work through and I hope this time it'll be right.
Khelds were good but overly complex, but with a great story. VEATs are great to play but the story line is pants, so maybe we'll get something that gets both marks right -
Actually it was pretty poor form. I had to read it several times to realise it was actually a Moderator editing a users post to make a point. He should have replied and quoted directly in his own post to be clear.
It's not even an especially valid point either. Maybe that's why he buried it -
Quote:I knew it was only a matter of time before people started trotting that out. I'll see you in about four months. As I said when the merge was announced, I fully plan on my "I told you so" post six months after GR just to deal with this sour grapes objection.
Not that it's needed. The markets aren't even showing the hint of possible future problems, but the EvilGeko shall be patient.
If being right is so very important to you, feel free. I've not said you're wrong, I'm simply going by what has been said and said that the case is yet to be proven. If you think that's sour grapes then I'm rather sorry for you. I have no problem with the market merge at all - but you've been quite selective in your response so I think I'll draw a line under this because it's not actually terribly productive. -
Quote:Interesting thoughts. I was thinking along the same lines after seeing the screen shots that Oro maybe altered some in the upcoming issues.
The one problem is keeping the way open for letting players do past arcs they may have missed for badges or the story.Quote:From a gameplay standpoint, the zone Ouroboros would probably be left unaffected. The devs have never really taken a zone away, right? Since there's no other way to reach the flashback system without a supergroup base, taking it away would have no positive yield.
And story-wise, the Ouroboros we teleport to may be in a time before it was attacked. It's only logical, right? If you have the resources, use 'em, including using yourself from the past.Quote:No inherent powers are 'earned' by the player, so to speak. Unless you count EAT ones, they are all tied to stuff relating to your account. If everything was correct, Ouro should really be an Accolade power, but meh.
Good points all.
I actually hadn't considered what they'd do with the flashback missions but that's a relatively easy fix. Hell they could make them part of the AE "Virtual" experience if they wanted and open up hero and villain content to all comers regardless of alignment. It would be hard to imagine Dr Aeon not having access to Ouroboros considering how many metahumans have it.
Also yes, the Devs rarely ever remove stuff irrevocably - but they have made serious modifications that fundamentally change the structure - RWZ, Faultline, etc. But we'll see.
Whatever - I19 is one of the most exciting issues to me in a long time -
Quote:Now we just need customizable pool powers, especially the travel powers.
Would love a better running animation for super speed (plus the ability to remove the yellow power thinger at your feet)
I kind of get that Pool Powers shouldn't get customisation - without necessarily agreeing with it. They are all the same for everyone, but yeah SS and Hasten have some of the worst effects. -
Quote:Well first be careful you don't put words into my mouth. I have never said "absolute" and if you look at my posting history I'm highly critical when I feel the need to be so.No, it's not. The statement I was refuting was that the devs decisions were entitled to absolute trust and judgment. Positron stated that the market merge would do bad things to villains. It hasn't. FACT. Not bias, fact.
He was wrong, based on observable evidence in the markets, horribly so. As we told them since 2007, merging the markets would have no downside to the operations of the markets and it hasn't.
Secondly, GR and the Market Merge has only been a very recent phenomenon, and it's hard to know yet what the long term effect of that might be.
Thirdly in 2007, there was no GR. Without the ability to side switch it is entirely possible that things may have looked very bad for the market. The Devs had said several times they looked at the numbers and it was not good.
Even if you are right, and as things stand I'd suggest it's case not proven yet, given the large swing towards hero-side, this is the Devs game and they have a number of plans and goals that we aren't privy to, which may affect stuff down the line. The fact that after 6 years the game's still releasing big content tells me they are doing an ok job in many areas, so if they aren't proliferating now, there's probably a reason for that. Nobody's said they won't proliferate more but just now we've had 4 brand new power sets that give us a lot of new combinations. I'm hardly surprised, having produced all that content they aren't quite ready to rework other sets that have been around in game for a while. We'll see them expand in due course I've no doubt, but not for a while. -
Quote:I wouldn't call that horrible at all. I'd say your response is pretty subjective tbh and it's made almost no difference to me.Actually, there are several things where they're judgment has been horribly wrong, we complained until they changed their minds, and the game was better for it. For example, at one point, the devs were adamant that we shouldn't have a market merge because it would "hurt" villains. Two months in and the market is healthier than I've ever seen it.
The game as it stands now is a testament to the devs ability to listen to complaints from their loyal, but crabby, playerbase.
I have no argument about the Devs listening - they certainly do, much more than Cryptic ever seemed to - NCSoft, not so much -
-
Quote:My only question is why they bothered to list anything past December 2012.
We all know the world's coming to an end then anyway.
That'll be a disaster!

Very like those
You know the problem with the links you posted though? They are obsolete.
All of those threads kicked off before GR launched.
Manticore and the Television have disappeared into the ether apparently.
And as I said previously no senior Dev has made any meaningful post regarding the game since GR launched.
Why do you suppose that is? -
So here's a thing.
With I19 around the proverbial corner, we get to make wild and silly and sometimes accurate and sensible guesses as to what's coming but here's something that's bugging me.
I've often queried why the Ouroboros power is a temp power and nobody's ever been able to properly answer it.
Now we're seeing a shattered Ouro. One note from the I19 overview is this:
Quote:It's going to be a lot easier to get around on the ground which is largely what Ouroboros has been for a long time - a shortcut from A2B. With a new Monorail in Talos down by the Ferry it'd be easy enough to get to almost any zone, especially if the SG Base exit points were put in more travel friendly locations. Founders Falls will probably become one of the main travel hubs, connected as it is to the Monorail, Vanguard and Pocket D all in reasonably close proximity.Merged Monorails and Ferries: The Transit Authorities in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles have made major improvements to the monorail and ferry system by merging their respective routes. All monorails can now travel to every monorail station on the Green and Yellow Line, while all ferries can now travel to every ferry station in the Rogue Isles.
So are we somehow going to lose the Temp Power? I suspect we shall, but probably not in a way we expect for a couple of reasons: The Devs dislike removing stuff from game and more importantly the nerdrage would be phenomenal (even if a bit fun to watch?)
I'm completely guessing here but I suspect this is how it will work:
Temp Power is removed - only limited access to Ouroboros - maybe via Ice & Flame pillar - so effectively the Midnighter club or SG base is the only access.
Then after a few issues that move the story forward, we get a new Inherent power that's like the Portal or maybe a portable Pillar of Ice and Flame that we can unlock and use for ever. -
Quote:No because I like the other bonuses that SB gives, and I don't get horrible concussion from running into walls at 100mph ;-)That's something that I didn't consider. I personally never discourage kins from SBing me, but I don't know a single kin who doesn't ask when a group gets off the ground or a taskforce gets started.
With the caps lifted, Speed Boost could become even more zippy. Would you find yourself discouraging kins from SBing you if it boosted your speed more than it already does?
And, also I have a thing about letting people play their own game and SB seems to be a Kin's favourite buff so let them spam it. It becomes a problem if they have to miss out a player. There are ways to mitigate SB somewhat, turn off travel power, detoggle run etc - and using hover is often a good work around.
I took SS the other day on a char and realised how much I hated it and so effectively wasted a vet respec to get rid because that plus run (which had a stealth IO so needed toggling frequently) and SB made the toon unmanageable
That said, I'd have to see how SB was on a given toon if caps were lifted - I'd hope I'd not have to, but I can't say until I've tried it. -
I believe that no single attack in game can kill - sorry, defeat, a PC outright. It's something along the lines of the max damage an attack can do is PC Max HP-1. Thus any character on full HP will still be standing (just) no matter what hits them, but the next attack is highly likely to finish them off.
-
Quote:Personally I'll trust the devs to decide what's right for the various issues and moving the game forward. We haven't had any proliferation since Issue 16. Issue 20 will be packed with Incarnate stuff and the end-game stuff.
Now's the time in a transitional issue like this. They're almost done. The can finish a couple of ATs right now.
Sure there's all kinds of stuff we'd like to have but they know why they (don't) do stuff and so far their judgement hasn't been so horribly wrong has it? -
Quote:One of them looks like Imperious - which would be kinda interesting - like he went rogue, perhaps, and now he and Rommy are BFF? Or their lovers' argument is over, and now they're an item again?
Well although it's been denied, I remain unconvinced that Romulus Augustus and Romulus the Warshade are two entirely distinct entities. -
Given the other goodness we are promised in I19, and all the new shiny power sets we got in I18/GR, I think we can forgive the Devs for not proliferating anything in this instance.
