Quote:You make some good points but you're failing to consider one thing: That for many superheroes in comics, their costume is a quintessential part of their brand, and if that gets changed, it can cause problems - Spidey's black cossie that then turned out to be Venom is a great example. The thing I liked about Champions is that when you join a Super Group you get a costume slot and it's free to tailor any new slot you open. Which to me makes perfect sense really.
The concept was so that you could match your team, but truthfully ony some people did that. But again it would make sense that if you joined a team you would get a free tailor session to alter that slot to match the style or colors of your team, or team style.
I found that personally I did not need my other slots. My first costume was the best costume to solidify the toons personality. For instance not many comic super heroes have changed their iconic look far from their original, and when it does happen it's not usually long before it's gone back.
Except with Aquaman...who well...seriously...does it matter if he shows up in PJ's made of Seal Eyelids? Although there were renditions of him that made him a bit more manly, which were acceptable.
Vampirella has been wearing the same... Band Aid for eternity
Wonder Woman is about the same
Bat Man has some variations but not enough to warrent anything slot worthy more than perhaps a refresh of a look here and there.
With going rogue I can see having 3 slots. One for a villain, and one for a hero, and one where you are in a cat suit or lobster boi outfit to RP in Pocket D...or if your risky a secret identity costume.
Thats all I can see really. I even found that with Champions too though. The second costume you make is never going to be paramount to the one you first created to give the toon a super identity.
Lets face it, your original costume is and will always be you golden age costume. Some of em arn't pretty, but neither was Iron Mans old suit, but he threw that out and we know him now by his current, but the memories people attatch to their very first pair of tights will usually be the threads that they will associate with that toon.
But Iron Man has had a whole bunch of costumes, as does Batman... sure they all have their "classic" but Tony Stark's changed his outfit almost as often as he's changed writers. But Bats and Iron Man both have a contuning theme, throughout their outfits. And if you take an example that's way more fitting for our purposes, then look at the Sentry. He was invented as a Golden Age forgotten character, but he has had a lot of costumes in a very short run - because styles and tastes change and people want different things from their favourite characters and Sentry kind of reflected the fashion of the times he was portrayed in. -
Quote:This.
I would like to have 3 or 4 complete and cool looking costume sets, NPCs conversion, Enemy faction or something new, just for free.
That would be nice from the devs. We always have to pay to get new costumes.
Actually we don't. We get free costume outfits from Vanguard and Cimerora if we do the missions often enough. -
Quote:Well, truthfully, by the sound/reading of your post, it sounds like this is a "team" vs "solo" thing. Which, really, for an MMO, I think the fact that it has solo options to allow people to stay in their comfort zone is good enough.
Going into an MMO, one should expect to do some teaming. If they don't need to and don't care to, awesome. But it shouldn't be seen as the game forcing you out of the comfort zone, as people signed onto a MMO.
It's multipler for a reason more than using it as a 15 dollar a month play a game solo as you use it as a chatroom.
Now, not saying there shouldn't be solo content, but I don't think it should be the expected thing, everything must be equal thing.
And of course, if you don't like that aspect, don't play it. I hated RE's controls, so I ended up wasting some money, but I didn't feel like I got ripped off because I wanted to try it.
Bit different than buying a game and liking part of it, but not the other part, but it comes to about the same thing. Don't like teaming, don't team. Just don't be silly and complain about the major aspect of the game (teaming)
You've summed up my take on this very well. -
So I was just checking some costume options and I suddenly realised that we now have more boosters than costume slots, and that's before we even start to consider the unlockable in game outfits such as Vanguard and Roman sets.
I guess that's pretty obvious when it smacks you in the face and of course not every character can use every costume option for a multitude of reasons, but it did suddenly strike me that 5 slots is pretty low for a game that essentially set the benchmark for costume creation and keeps raising the bar to the next level time and time again.
I don't know why we only have a max of 5 slots. Probably there's a technical limitation - database costs will almost certainly have a big part of it, but there's possibly some other issues I'm unaware of.
I guess one of the obvious questions is "how many slots is enough?" For me, it varies from character to character. Some characters only have 2 or 3 slots. Some have 5 and want 25. But I think I can speak for many in saying "more is better" when it comes to costumes.
But how to get them? What's feasible? My own feeling is that additional sets shoudln't just be doled out the way they have been until now. Five slots are very easy to earn so how about making remaining slots a bit more of a challenge? Maybe having to earn an accolade like Task Force Commander will unlock one new slot per character, for example.
Vet rewards might also be worth while. Say one Cossie slot per character for every 24 months subscription. That's an arbitrary number and I'm sure there are some that would say 12 months but that could very quickly double the strain on any back end given the number of longer term subscribers.
Personally I'd be happy to be able to purchase a slot or 2 as well, if the price was reasonable and I'm sure I'm not alone in that. Maybe even include an additional costume slot in new boosters with a commensurate cost. Give them as options perhaps. A booster for £5.99 with no costume slot, or for £7.50 with one.
I'm pretty sure there are countless other options and suggestions but it just seems sad to me that we've got so many costume options and comparatively few slots to play with them. -

Quote:When the time comes that Cole invades, you'll either join alongside him, or fight him off using your new found power. (As your own story unfolds on Primal Earth, you will have opportunities to switch sides.)
This is your inference. There is no evidence for it and given that we actually go back to Praetoria with Apex and Tin Mage to thwart his plans, it's highly unlikely we get to ever assist him. -
Quote:I don't get that. I have not seen where he says "fight with me" even relayed by his minions. I won't say it doesn't exist but I haven't experienced it personally and I've looked for it. Which is the whole premise of this threadThe Loyalist side of going to the Isles does seem to be saying "Fight with Cole" OR "Get lots of powers (incarnate) and go against him"
I totally agree. Even in the comics they were one-dimensional (there's irony for you) and Statesman comes across mostly as a self-righteous git -
Quote:and? But they both still do that murder-slavery-torture-oppression thing that all dictators do - it's just that Tyrant prefers it to be done in a cleaner environment, and with less of a spider theme.
Quote:Let me channel my inner Night Widow... OK, here we go.
"Listen to Recluse's speech at the entrance to Grandville. Look at the recruitment posters around the Rogue Isles. He does stand for something: Power, and obtaining it by any means neccessary. From where we're sitting, Tyrant is just a dictatorial lunatic who pays lip service to his happy shiny lawful ideology while his obvious goal is 'I want to rule the multiverse.' Not surprising its coming from an elseworld Statesman, really." -
Cole (superficially at least) stands for something. Richter is just an anarchic lunatic with no clear ideology and his goal is "I want to rule the world." Recluse is Chaos to Cole's Law. in AD&D terms, Cole is Lawful Evil and Richter is Chaotic Evil. For me at least, it's much harder to get behind chaos because it's just so random.

What happens when the servers merge?
You become the ERC?
Good question.
It's too soon to say exactly what will happen at this stage. Once the official news has been released (tomorrow IIRC) we will then have a chat with those concerned and decide on a way forward.
What I can tell you is that once we had taken the news in, all of us in the EERC welcomed the move and we're pretty well agreed that with the good stuff we've got planned we're still intending to run that. Plus, even though the lists merge, there will still be a requirement for specific EU events, especially given the fact we are now working closely with colleagues on Vigilance and Zukunft, thus bringing the whole community closer together
Whatever the outcome, we'll let you guys know ASAP -
Quote:Sorry to say this, but while it is a good thing to have equality throughout the playerbase I can forsee Defiant becoming like a ghost town within a few weeks of the list merge. people may not wish to pay for character transfers between servers but I can see some of Defiant's players disappearing onto other servers and once they get settled then they'll make the occassional character transfer and before you know it they hardly play on the 'EU' servers at all. I suspect Union will be the same. The Lure of more populated servers will be strong.
I see where you're coming from but I truly believe your fears are groundless.
The most likely scenario is that people from all servers will check out new servers, and I imagine Defiant will get an influx of people from the NA servers, as will Union and the non-English speaking servers too.
They will inevitably be a few peaks and troughs of population but most people on the EU servers will keep playing on their "home" server. What we may well see is - depending how the servers are laid out, more people coming to the EU simply because Defiant is higher on the server list (but that's speculation of course) -
ok I feel the need to clarify my post cuz a few responses have been "I'm never moving my home" or "ain't going nowhere" (we'll ignore the double negative for now)
I wasn't asking if you're gonna relocate, but rather, are you going to involve yourself in a new community - perhaps part time, or maybe at a deeper level. Maybe superficial. I'm very clear in my own mind Defiant is my home - but now we've got the opportunity to spread our wings I'll be checking out a lot of the "new to me" servers and I hope to meet new people and make new friends. -

the lesson you should take from this is "anything but a blaster"

So with the excitement of the list merge I got to wondering if I should perhaps make a 2nd home on what will soon become a "former NA server" (isn't it great to be able to say that?
)
I am not sure where, but I am leaning heavily towards Triumph, based solely on the fact it's my ride too. But I'd like somewhere open to RP and PVP and everything.
I'm not suddenly planning on abandoning Defiant, far from it - but if I do make a 2nd home what're your recommendations?
Will anyone be joining us on a soon to be former EU server? -

Quote:As an American who's lived in England for three years and has had face-to-face interaction with people from all across the UK, I do find it quite humorous when you Brits get on us (even in jest) about using "proper" English when writing and talking.
And technically speaking, "chips" would be a more accurate general moniker of the potato chunks that we deep fry. However, the whole "Belgian frites" thing does legitimize the use of "fries" as a name for the dish. But I digress ...
I blame Webster -
