it logs me out overnight as a matter of course... I think that's policy
  4. yes seemed to clear up this afternoon after I came back.
  5. I should've said that @mereman is also a founder member but the login bug got me all flustered! I'm more hip replacement than hip these days
  6. I was going to post with exactly the same topic title. Great minds Gob.

This is as bad as I've ever seen the logout bug. This is my (third) time of trying to post. It's also failing to recognise my remembered PW which was fine yesterday.

Arguably as bad as it's ever been for me - logs me out almost every page, making the fora almost impossible to use. (Some of you may think that's a good thing? )
  7. If you find that you're of that certain age, when your get up and go means having to get up and go every night, or it got up and went, when it takes you all night to do what you used to do all night, when soft toilet paper is more important than a purple drop, you may just be interested in going to the DOGs* - the Defiant Old Gits, a supergroup for the more mature player.

There are a few of us oldsters around this game (the 40+ brigade) and it would be nice to be able to compare notes in game - important questions such as which dentures offer the highest def cap, can thermal socks increase resistance and how much energy protection does Preparation H offer? Are you looking forward to staff fighting just so you don't need to leave your base without your walking stick? Does Hip Replacement mean more than a fresh breath of rock 'n' roll in your life? These are vital to the player who's worried less by shards and more by incontinence, who's mind might still be sharp but wants to embrace their inner curmudgeon!

If anything above speaks to you, then come and join the DOGs for the over 40s - the kettle's on dear. Now where did I put my teeth?

*(incidentally, this SG is happy to welcome anybody from any of the servers - it's Defiant for the purposes of acronym "EOGs" or "VOGs" didn't have quite the same ring to it! - so don't be afraid to join us if you're on an alternate server.)

Don't forget Paragon likely have CoH2 in the pipes. If the franchise itself looks sold that will probably be a good jump off point.

But as others have said, why worry about stuff that may not happen for a good long time?

So I was gonna suggest here(since this thread seems the appropriate place) that you could make tops like these as body-hugging "Chest Detail" pieces that go over top of the skin. That way you would still have the costume part, but you could pick your own skin beneath it (or use another Tights option as well.) We already have very tight, body-hugging Chest Detail parts such as the Roman armor and the Barbarian Corsets, so theoretically this is something that could be done. Ideally these pieces would be available in addition to the normal directly-on-Chest parts we have now. And if this is something that's possible, all 3 model types should be looked at (Female, Male, and Huge) as they all have some pieces that show some skin, like T-shirts and Tank tops and such.
    I so heartily agree!!!!

Skin's generally need a complete revamp
  12. I don't know if it's a case of looking up to anyone. Statesman was the figurehead, but one reason he has died is because many of the player base didn't actually respect him or look up to him. Hence, he was easier to take out of the game.

I viewed many of the FP as "long distance mentors" - the guys who were there to call upon, if the ordure impacts the thermantidote. Now, as the story progresses, they are largely superfluous to requirements and increasingly becoming irrelevant as the game becomes our characters' story.

And if that was too serious, then Faultline - because anyone who can cope with Fusionette for more than 20 minutes at a stretch is a genuine hero!
  13. You're confusing your villains with your minor celebrities here.

The end fight was a bit poop but I suspect that may have been deliberate - so that it doesn't take too much attention away from the story.

The only interaction anyone EVER has with the Well is in Mender Ramiel's story arc and in conversation with Prometheus. There are only 2 components in the ENTIRE Incarnate system that involve the Well (the Notice and the Favor). To say that this system and all the PCs involved in it are tied to the Well is just asinine. The only way your character is tied EXCLUSIVELY to the Well is by listening to Mender Ramiel and his ilk. You can easily accomplish meaningful progression along the Incarnate path without involving yourself with Ramiel, the Well, or Big Blue.

If you feel like your characters are somehow chained to Eva's "puddle of annoyance", then don't run Ramiel's arc. And for God's sake, don't listen to the Big Blue guy standing in a citadel of manipulators and liars.

Edit: Yes, I know there is a third component that is called "Drop of the Well", but according to its text, it's more of condensed, raw power.
Not sure how you work that out. The whole End Game is connected to the Well and the Origin of Powers arc tells us that. If you want to totally ignore the story and run the missions and trials for the loot, that's fine but that's rather like watching a movie for the images and ignoring the plot and character interaction.

The Well of the Furies is endemic and connected to the game on so many various levels that it's almost impossible to ignore it. That's arguably compounded by the retcons on the old Praetorian stuff that was in game pre-GR.
  15. OP, I think your basic premise is very flawed.

If people hate something they avoid it - it would be very strange behaviour to stick around and lambast something because you don't like it when there's almost a whole internet to float around in and enjoy and plenty of other things to enjoy/hate (delete as appropriate)

But what you may be seeing here is some very dedicated and passionate players who have one or more aspects of the game they dislike or don't enjoy - and actually want to let the Devs know, rather than walk away.

There's another point: Most people will talk about the stuff that's a problem for them rather than the stuff they love. Because if you love it there's no requirement to say what needs fixing, why you love it etc... sometimes saying you love it is cool but there's far less of a critique that needs to go into it.

Bottom line - it's not hatred or vitriol - but those sensations can be amplified by "teh ineterwebs" and human nature changes online because of the removal of polite fear - people aren't scared of a punch in the face online, and in human history mass communication in this manner is very very new and unique. We still probably need to get to grips with it a bit more.

The upshot of all that is it can give a somewhat skewed perspective of how people really feel about the game.
  16. Ok I was kind of taken by surprised in a "colour me impressed" kind of way.

That's my first impression from having run it just the once in a redside team that munched everything - but even then the cut scene made me, how shall I put this... a tad thoughtful - in the kind of way I felt when I first saw the wreck of Skyway City in the Sutter TF.

This was more poignant and it did work for me so props to the writers for this one.
  17. I'd be up for trying it

I dunno if there's a minimum participant level - but technically they could stand around not doing much if there is

And I'm honestly relieved to say I'm coming up dry this time. An elephant in the room needs to be necessarily large for people to eventually notice it, Scarlet Shocker, and I haven't seen many people at all noticing Matt Miller's hubristic love affair with Positron. I can say with a complete lack of sarcasm that I'm sorry you're not enjoying the story these days, but it almost feels like you're looking as hard as you can for things not to like. Well, you'll always find them, if that's your attitude. You're an eloquent writer, but it's not confidence-inspiring that you resorted to calling names when your worry about a classic redemption story was deflated.

It's one thing to tell the writers what you're looking for (feedback is awesome), but when the quality of your feedback has spiraled to the point of--

Congratulations, you've now entered the realm of utterly unconstructive feedback. As much as critics like [CENSORED] and [CENSORED] and [CENSORED] are called big grumps around here (resisting the urge to name names, but it's never hard to guess), they back their criticisms up with "But how about this idea?" every single time.

I'm going to re-quote something you said earlier because it's something I can't argue with, the previous non-linearity of Origins compared to the restriction on creative freedom presented to us by the evolution of "The Well" storyline--

YES, give us back the ability to stay within canon AND write our own godlike power origins.

We definitely disagree about the quality of the writing. I think the writing is great in older arcs (many of which are "new" to me, as I'm just now stumbling into them), and I love how the devs liked to build all the different storylines into BIG REVEALS. But I also think the writing is great in newer content. It's different, that's for sure, but in some places more mature. So I guess some people have one opinion and some others have another. Big shocker.
Your selective reading puzzles me. If you read the top of this thread, the rock thread, and several others you'd be more than aware that I've suggested many and varied options for change, so calling me on unconstructive feedback is simply silly.

As for the Miller's hubris, there was a recent video posted here that I cannot find - otherwise I'd have linked it - but my take on that was exactly what I stated here and I recall there were several other posters with that view.

Also, you can choose to fight against Positron on the Trial - even though they've all been captured, we only have time to rescue 4 of them, so we can choose to not save Positron, and save, say, Swan isntead - any ones who we don't save end up fighting us as puppets of Mot in the final fight.

So Mr. New Super Mary Sue ends his first leadership mission in failure, isn't even important enough to be a required rescue objective, and then either tags along with us as Fusionette-style support if we bothered to rescue him, or ends up as a minion to be swept aside by us as we fight the final boss.

Just... thanks for the spoiler warning and do you really think I meant that this would be a single story resolution when nothing else in the game is?

I'm sorry... you're a smart girl GG but sometimes I wonder when you will be reconstituted into a single long plank.

Classic redemption story then. But the fact it's Posi running it from the start says a lot.

This also has something to do with limited resources. The devs can't work on a dozen top enemy groups at once if they really want to shine the spotlight on them. They have to decide what to spend their resources on. Resources include available artists and writers and programmers and team leads, and hours available to be worked. This isn't me knowing how the industry works, it's me using my brain.

It also has something to do with "darned if they do, darned if they don't." Would we all be happier if they solely focused on Arachnos for several issues? No. Would we all be happier if they focused on different "big-time" enemies for several issues at a time? No. So there you have it. They can't make us all happy.

It also has something to do with myopia. For me, Arachnos hasn't gone anywhere. Neither have the Rikti. And my namesake character is just now getting into the Portal Corp content for the first time. I love how I've been playing for two years and still firmly consider myself a newbie. There are seven years worth of content in this game, and it feels like it. There is still so much I haven't seen. I realize that puts me in an enviable position compared to some of you, but I'm not gloating. I'm pointing out that old content doesn't disappear when new content is introduced.

I've never had the impression that "OMG they're forgetting about the XYZ!" Unlike Marvel Comics, Paragon Studios doesn't have a gazillion writers and artists working on a gazillion interrelated and separate titles all at the same time. Of course, if NCSoft wanted to put up the money to make this game more like that, I'd be one happy paying customer. But that's not how the cookie crumbles, or something....

Can't agree with much of anything you've said there old chap.

Here's the thing: The quality of the game overall, graphically, powers, sets etc... wonderful. Visually the game's gone from strength to strength. Praetoria, for example, looks stunning. So does First Ward and the screens I've seen of DA are outstanding. The enemy groups in Praetoria all offer something new, even if some are culled from here and there and amalgams - but they all work.

Arachnos went a long way when we got VEATs. We can now tell our own Arachnos story but the story that goes with it, Alain Dessoc... no thanks. That's poopy. I grant you there's not a huge amount of action been lavished on them but they have moved forward.

Likewise, the Rikti got a huge makeover in I12 and the LGTF and we got the first raid. I grant you, that's a while back now, but it did push the whole story forward and is a big slice of content in its own right and keeps them at the forefront of the CoH legend. So it's very hard to say they went nowhere - and even Montague Castanella manages to shine some more light on their relationship with the Lost.

The issue here is not even one of shining a spotlight. It's the fact they are shinign a spotlight on something that... well it's the Wizard of Oz thing all over again: Once you get past the shiny of Praetoria, and the pretty graphics and Ultra Mode etc etc etc... the content, the stories that make this game so great have crashed in quality.

When I first started playing almost 6 years back, the graphics looked almost dated then - but I played because the stories were cool and I could be a superhero.

Now, the graphics are shiny and I'm reduced to being one of Matt Millers NPCs in his hubristic love affair with Positron.

And that is the Elephant in the room

What's more, in a very real sense, you can't handwave away what you don't like. Yes, you can make up whatever you want and if that's what gets you through the night baby, whatever. But gluing feathers on a rat doesn't make it a swan. The canon is what it is. The story you've made up in your head to make it palatable has no currency here. It means absolutely nothing when we're evaluating the quality of the work.

I buy a classic car. It's green. I hate green. I can respray it.

Handwaving here is the only thing keeping my playing the game because the Incarnate story as presented is a big fat steaming turd on a high quality CoH carpet
