Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
ok so that's where it went!
If this was all we get for the 8th Anniversary I would be mildly disappointed but I strongly suspect that the 8th Anniversary will be a whole lot more exciting and this is just a nice little bonus.
Thanks Paragon - I knew you wouldn't let us down! -
- Search is as much use as a rubber duck in the Sahara
- The AE interface is horrid
- It seems impossible to find the good stuff without trawling through mountains of turds to find the occasional gem
- Because the AE is so fundamentally broken, it's not often played and therefore getting others to partake is next to impossible. Given there's a lot of "real" content out there, why bother spending an evening sifting through junk when you can actually be playing the game with friends
- The tools are too limited: It's the same old same old. Actually telling a story is quite a challenge - getting to beat stuff up is fine but why not use the AE to do stuff you don't get in the regular game?
- There's no maintenance. Broken stories that don't run and blatant farms aren't removed (or if they are, far too infrequently) and so add to the general clutter.
- Because the AE has been mostly abandoned by the Devs it's become something of an anachronism - it solely exists for farmer and PLers to charge obscene amounts of Inf to get your new toon a few quick levels.
- Issue 14: White Elephant

I could definitely get behind this - but as Zwillinger pointed out, there's actually quite a bit of stuff in there - so maybe the way to approach it would be to spread QoL stuff over 2 or 3 issues with a reduction of "new shiny" during that period
Also, regarding the issue of spelling, grammar, typos etc and Story Lore, I'm amazed that games don't seem to recruit or involve the fans, ie the player base. It seems to me it would be relatively simple with the language issues to just have the players point out the culprits in forum thread which could be reasonably easily overseen and fixed simply.
With Lore there used to be a Q&A board with Manticore I believe but that doesn't fix too many of the broken bits and inconsistencies - again under proper supervision players could point out the worst bits, a redname could respond appropriately - given that as players we don't necessarily understand future ramifications - and players could offer potential solutions to dilemmas and inconsistencies. -
I was reading Evil Gecko's "Weakest combo" thread and it made me laugh. I actually like what he's thinking there because as anyone who knows me will tell you, I am always up for a challenge.
But it did make me wonder what people consider to be the Ultimate Blaster
I find All-Electric pretty disappointing, but my Ice/Energy has always performed really well - it's as though they are two different animals.
But what in your opinion is the Uberblaster? What makes it great and what sets does it need, and most importantly why? -
Quote:I don't have access to Mid's right now, so I'll skip the build advice, mostly. You also asked for general tips, so I'll provide some.
First off, I am surprised to hear you describe your trip to 50 as arduous, since my Widow was both my fastest and most enjoyable ride I have ever had to 50. She rapidly became my favorite toon to play, so let me tell you what I did.
A big key for the Widow is positional defense. If you take and slot all of your defense powers and add in Combat Jumping and the Steadfast 3% defense IO, you ought to be pretty much at the soft-cap for defense in all positions while Mind Link is up. Get Hasten, and slot Mind Link with several Defense/Recharge set IOs, and you will get a lot of up time on Mind Link. At that point, you ought to be very survivable. If you want, you can pick up Smoke Grenade (I did) to add a little unresistable tohit debuff to help sweeten the pot.
As for the damage side of things, I liked every claw attack except Dart Burst. I ended up settling on Slash, Swipe, Lunge, Evicerate, Spin, and Poison Dart. That list has more to do with what powers I like using than any attempt at optimization, but I get along just fine. I ended up choosing Build Up instead of Follow Up simply because I got tired of having to spam Follow Up all the time.
As far as IOs go, since you get gobs and gobs of defense just from your powers, I think your first focus should be on recharge enough to get Mind Link permanent, and then lots of endurance help, both recovery and +max end. I think my Widow has TT:Maneuvers and Assault and also Leadership Maneuvers and Assault. Combined with my other armor toggles and CJ, it adds up to a substantial end drain. My IO slotting allows me to run all that comfortably, though I will still bottom out in long fights.
Anyway, let me try to summarize briefly. Take all the powers in your secondary that provide defense and you should become nearly unhittable. All your claw attacks do pretty good damage, so try them out and go with the ones you like.
I love my Widow because she has a ridiculous amount of defense (I regularly run around with about 67% defense to melee and 60% defense to ranged and AoE) and I give a good portion of that to my whole team. I also do plenty of damage for my tastes, so I ended up with a great support that can handle herself and also kill quickly. I love it!
I hope you find something that works for you so that you can have as much fun with yours as I have with mine.Quote:Widows are awesome.
I feel bad because I lost interest in mine because of her concept.
Its like, I dont know what to do with her lol
But they are killing machines.
And if you got time to work for Fortunatas/Night widow dual builds, she is like 2 totally different characters. So awesome.
Maybe if they got claws customization and more costume updates for the SoA costumes...(Hairstyles has never been updated, same for eye details)
Quote:My personal suggestion is a hover fortuna.
You get a good single target attack chain, with a bit of AoE, all of your powers using a rare damage type and a few AoE's. Good team buffs and by hovering you only have to dash in for mindlink and your nuke, so ranged defence is important. the other stuff is less so.
So how does that sound, hover fort build?
It seems Widows can easily get to the Defence cap in most areas, but very little resist. That's my initial impression... is that a fair assesment? -
Quote:Hey all. Yet again, I had to bail on proceedings. Apologies for dropping out, but things were out of my hands.
Anyway, I hope things continued ok for the rest of evening. What level did you manage to get the team up to ?Quote:We did both Positron TFs yesterday. All went well, even though Doctor Vahzilok put up quite some resistance in the end. Thanks to all who participated; it was a great time!
10joy
Robo sorry you had to bail but these things happen - as Tenjoy pointed out we had some fun with Posi and there's some thought now that we might go to First Ward next week given we're there level-wise and once past it you can't go back. Hopefully you'll be able to join us next sunday.
We're getting pretty slick now. and I believe next week we'll be joined by a TW/dark scrapper which will do wonders for our DPS and that gives us a full team.
I've created a channel, Team Dark so join up to keep abreast of stuff
Toodles! -
The images I've seen so far look far different from the concept art and frankly I am disappoint.
However, I'd have stayed subbed for the duration regardless, so it's effectively "free stuff" - whether it looks better "in the flesh" remains to be seen but you never know... there might be another cossie comp for "also-ran" toons - those would be the perfect accompaniment -
Quote:Seems a pretty slight Issue overall. With another zone which will be played for a week and then become a barren wasteland.
This. The saving grace of the new coop zone may be that it's in a relatively barren level range that's needed some leurve for a long time - but I don't hold my breath. -
Great stuff chaps.
Glad to see the enthusiasm for this team building.
I *think* we're about full (or close to it now) so as previously mentioned we'll be running after the weekly MSR on Defiant - so that's about 8pm BST, which is 3pm Eastern, Noon Pacific and we'll run til... we've had enough
If you are interested, we're reconvening just outside the Police Station in Atlas (by Back Alley Brawler) so come join us. If we are over subscribed we can form a league of a couple of teams and balance a bit and run in parallel
See you at 8 -
ok thanks.
What do you suggest, Blood, Fortunata or the other one?
I think CJ & Fly to get around, and no fighting pool. I haven't ever played a stalker but it could be fun to have a stalkerblapper
Budget wise: No purples or PVP IOs - maybe a couple of hundred mil tops but potentially a full set of ATOs -
it's essentially an unplanned SO build.
What I'm after more than a build is maybe the plusses and minuses of the AT and what to aim for with particular builds etc. Also any powers that are "must haves" (Mind Link) and anything to avoid. -
I've just got my Widow to 50.
It's been a very long arduous task... but finally. In fact, so long has it been that she still has pool fitness. I guestimate she's been around three years in the making. If I remember correctly I first created her when VEATs went live
So the long and the short of it is that now she's 50 I want to think about incarnating her... but I'm pretty clueless about Widows.
So, what works, what doesn't and what should I look out for or aim at?

Sir
In response to my contract termination following the burglary 4-1-12, I respectfully request you reconsider, taking into account the following mitigating circumstances.
As per my terms of employment, I am scheduled for the day shift. At no point in the last six years of my time here have I ever worked past 4.30pm. This has never been considered to be an issue.
What can I say? It got dark. It gets dark, I shouldn't be at work. No I didn't at the time notice the guy with the big dogs and bees. It was, as I have already stated, dark. I would have checked my watch but... well... sorry couldn't see.
It may well be that as Mr Huggins from Facilities has claimed "it gets darker in Praetoria these days" but in that case surely the fault lies with Facilities for not improving the lighting when such occurrences happen.
At no point have I ever received a memo advising me to "expect premature dusk" or requesting that I work late. Had I done so I would have been happy to oblige (providing the bees and the fires were dealt with) but no such request was forthcoming -
Just throwing this out there: Is it potentially browser related? Has he tried logging in with a variety of browsers to confirm/deny this?
Personally I often solve various site issues switching between Firefox and Opera. -
Quote:Hey Aumakua, as Robo said you can join us on Sunday from about 8pm - there's invariably an MSR every sunday on Defiant so we convene after that (gotta get those V-Merits first) - and again, the theme is Dark. I'm running a Dark/Thermal controller so we've got a huge amount of debuffs for when we run up against AVs.Has the theme team started and what is the theme if it has?
I have had a lot of fun playing on a all VEAT team and would like to get on another team. I was thinking of doing an all elemental shield team(Tanker, Brute and Scrapper). With the use of Phalanx Fighting and Grant cover it will help the team out in over all defense kinda like the VEAT team with maneuvers. As for the elemental aspect I think your attack, shield graphics and APP/PPP powers should match. For example a Dark/ Shield (W/ Dark graphics) will get Soul Mastery and become the team debuffer, a Shield (w/ Fire Graphics)/Fire Melee will get Pyre Mastery, etc....
I have been a part of a few Tanker Tuesdays that other servers host and I think I will make a toon on this server if we start a Melee Monday with a shield team.
I believe we have space and we're aiming to kick off from about level 15 this sunday so if you want to join us see if you can get to 15 and we'll run from there.
You can reach me in game @Riffster or shout out on the Defiant Events EU channel.
Quote:Hey Riff, sorry I couldnt make it last week as you know I have a 3 week old son who is taking up most of my time atm.
I made a Dark/Dark Brute and leveled her to 11 yesterday, Ill probably try to get her to 15 buy Sunday, names Dark-Flush.
I can play Monday & Sunday as these are the only 2 days I have off work but from what i have read it looks like it will be a Sunday Superteam?
What time do we start forming the team? So i can be online rdy & waiting?
P.s. Any 1 els in superteam plz send me a global message (superteam) and a global friend invite plz, this will make it easier to know who every1 is that I dont yet know (Riff your on my Global and have been for years) ;-)
Cya L8ter - @Flush-VIPlook forwrd to it.

Brooch it, too, while you're at it.
Also: WTB MOAR SLOTZ PER SRVR!
I do agree about more slots per server.
Quote:As said before my only complaint this week was that the offerings were frankly subpar in my opinion.
I'd also consider this the first week where they've failed on their goal of 'a new thing for the market every week'. IO sets are not new, they're rehased content. I would have happily bought the Panther travel power (though my tinfoil hattedness says it got held back since a lot of people complained about the devs spamming the four legged rig). -
Quote:"...all Elec is pretty dire these days. End drain is reasonably meaningless, both in PVP and PVE and the damage that electric puts out is feeble."
Hahahahaha, NO. You're definitely doing something, by which I mean several things, wrong. My first 50 was all elec and when he entered PI, he was AoEing groups of red mobs.
Congratulations. I'm sincerely happy for you.
I tend to agree with Fulmens response but my response is to stop playing blasters and play controllers. My trollers don't kill stuff that quick but they stay alive and do manage to see the fight through to the end and their survivability makes them a lot more fun.
I don't get too involved in in-depth analysis of the numbers, I leave that to those like Arcanaville who are far better qualified to do that on our behalf. However, my response is an emotional response and a simple one: If I don't enjoy playing something for any reason then it's time to stop playing it - and playing blasters is simply painful for me these days. I'm all for challenges, including doing silly stuff like soloing the ITF and small team TFs at +4x8 on a variety of ATs.
However blasters don't offer anything like the flexibility to do this and simply aren't fun to play. I play this game to have fun. Blasters aren't giving me that fun no more.
That's a personal feeling and I don't impute that to anyone else but it seems germaine to the general content of this thread.
I like what the OP is trying to achieve here but sadly I don't think I've got the stomach to try it. -
Without reading all the posts in all the threads here are some thoughts
Blasters to me feel weak, in comparison to other ATs, in part because of their lack of overall defence and particularly mez protection.
However there seems to be a wide disparity across the different kinds of blasters. I've never played a fire blaster to any significant level, but my Ice/En blaster is pretty devastating even without Incarnate content whilst Scarlet Shocker is pretty poor and however many times I've tried to improve her, all Elec is pretty dire these days. End drain is reasonably meaningless, both in PVP and PVE and the damage that electric puts out is feeble. I've also had other blasters that Ive delted once they got to 50 because they lacked the fun that other ATs provide
There seems to be a point where Blasters change from being useful to just being painful to play - generally around lvl 18 +/- 5 and there are few other ATs that are obviously that gimped. -
Thanks to everyone who turned up we had a lot of fun and we all got some good levels. I think we're roughly about 15-16 now - we ran a couple of Drowning in Blood trials with just a few of us.
I'm looking forward to running this team next week so if you didn't make it this time, never fear there's still space for you then. Just make sure you're 15 and we'll run a couple of DiBs then maybe move on to Posi or something -
Quote:That wasn't "someone", it was a large number of "someones", Parallel Illusion was a very popular supergroup on Triumph for a while. Some of us have ours still.
It was all about the I/l switch, no 1s involved.
Sounds like a lot of fun... finally a way to play Simons -
-
looks like there's a lot of interest in a dark theme... so how about we go with that and say at least one of your sets has to be dark in theme. You can mix and match (I'm seriously thinking of a thermal/dark defender or failing that a something/dark troller.
First run this sunday? -
Ligers are big because of their hybridised genetic structure. In extreme cases it can lead to a second, remarkably human head growing from their backs.
Personally I'm very meh about vanity pets, simply because they don't actually do very much and you can only have one out at any given moment... and I'd much rather spend my £££ on stuff that does stuff. (If I could have a bunch of vanity pets then I'd probably pay for that however.)
However, I appreciate that vanity pets give great choice to those who like them and also returns a good deal more profit to Paragon Studios and therefore maintains their profitability, as well as enabling them to make more shinies that I will indeed enjoy. -
We still got some interest I reckon.
Let's give some thought to themes and think about forming on Sunday after the MSR?
Some possible suggestions:
Darkness: One or more
Pets
Poison
Elementals
Any other suggestions welcome of course
