I say a Fire/Shield Scrapper for great AoE and ST damage and a Fire/Cold or Ill/Cold Controller for excellent damage and debuff.

Quote:I've never minded working toward a never ending goal but I'm quickly understanding that I am a minority of people(or at least a silent majority) who do not want instant gratification.I'm sure many of us have heard the topic phrase, "It's the journey, not the destination." It's used most often in opposition to folks who seek levels over playing the content within those levels. The considerable consternation over Issue 20 (and Issue 19) has me wondering:
Do you subscribe to the belief that the game should be about the journey, not the destination?
To answer for myself. I enjoy the chase of something in many ways more than the acquisition. I love filling out a character's IO build. I've done it three or four times with my BS/Regen. At times I've just plain erased millions of inf in enhancers just to start over. I actually get more bored with a character when I successfully complete that character's build. By the same token, I greatly look forward to Issue 20's trials and beyond. Since I'm not particularly concerned about actually getting the powers in any given time frame, I have no concern about how difficult they are to achieve.
I don't care about shard -> thread conversion rates, don't mind random reward tables, and don't mind inf costs. For me, the goal is the chase not the end. The journey not the destination. I'll be honest in saying that I've felt almost alone in that belief over the last few weeks. It seems that everyone is hyper-focused on the new powers and angry that they will be forced to grind the trials over and over. That concept that you will be forced to do something that you find distasteful is so strange to me. Most of these Incarnate powers didn't exist except in the devs design meetings a year ago. We've all gotten along just fine without them this long. I understand and agree that progressing your character is a legitimate goal in a MMORPG. Of course it is. But what's the rush?
Isn't it about the journey? What do you think? -
I've been playing around with it and I'm not sure if I can find a way to maintain soft capped melee defense while adding more slots to Impale and TS.
-
While I like the build I don't like the under slotting for Impale and Throw Spines. I also don't like fire ball builds but that is another horse entirely
. I'm sure the slotting you have in those two powers are fine, I'd probably try to get more endurance recovery.

5.5 million lines!? lol and I thought my little phone book project was long...
-
Does anyone know how many lines of code CoH is made of? Just wondering, I'm learning C++ and was thinking about how many lines of code it must take to run CoH.

Quote:But what if the guy is really hungry at the time and desperately needs a fish or he will die? I say give the man a fish feed him for a day while teaching him to fish. Do you realize how unreliable fishing is?!That wasn't very nice. Making a build or working with one in Mids' helps someone understand their power sets better, and make builds on their own. Its the "give a man a fish" or "teach a man to fish" principle.

Quote:O that's nice... That sounds almost tempting for me to roll an SR scrapper but I don't think Murcielago would like that very much.Have you seen the most recent "perma" Elude thread? Elude downtime is low enough to be covered by Hibernate. The build is Spines/Super Reflexes, but might be adaptable. To Claws should be pretty easy. Less so to Dual Blades due to purple slotting issues, but if anyone can figure it out, you can.
I'd probably personally go with a lower recharge build with just significantly higher defense than 45% if it's a big concern. I wouldn't want to twiddle my thumbs for 30 seconds. But the build was at the very least thought-provoking. -
Gah nothing that I don't already know wasn't said. These are mostly for people who don't know anything about the game. I'm glad they're doing this that way we can get more people to come play CoH which means more revenue!!!

Quote:Wow I forgot how tight not having the GA: Proc makes builds. It looks good though the recommendation that I can make is to focus on is +HP and trying to raise your DDR.Hello!
I made a dark/shield scrapper and did just hit 50. I want a nice build for it but didnt know where to start, so did ninja Elektros build.
To not make myself to poor i did remove the purple set and the HO;s. I also removed a slot from active defenses to get 6 slot in siphon life.
Any thoughts on Elektros build and my slighlty different version?

Quote:My first was an ice/ice blaster and it was terrible. I was probably the worst blaster in the game when I started. I played him for a year before I made my next character.Given the incredibly wide range of AT and powerset combinations we have in CoH (it's at what... 600+ now?) I'm curious about what you started off with, and whether your preferences have changed since?
The first character I ever created was a Claws/WP Scrapper - not a Wolverine clone, honest - with a red and black costume and the name Razerz (very 90s Dark Age anti-heroic, I suppose) I didn't stick with her very long, and scrappers are... okay, but by no means my favourite AT. I still like Claws/ though. Finally deleted a few weeks ago, when I was reorganising my character list.
So what was the first character you ever made in CoH, and do you still play them?
(The inspiration for this thread was me musing about the number of brand new no-vet badge players I see running Dominators, which strike me as the most newbie-unfriendly AT of them all, given how relatively complex they are to play.) -
Does Fireball crit? I thought it didn't...
-
People play how they want doesn't mean they'll be efficient at what they do, so long as they're having fun it doesn't matter. Fun > efficiency I see it this way, while GP might not be putting out the best AoE or ST damage compared to fire or electric their character will be a lot sturdier than a Fire or Electric melee/shield character due to have SL.

Quote:No way it does not take 2 billion inf to hit the soft cap. I bet that I could do it with 200 million at most if I'm impatient and buy it now.*/Shield can perform really well without purples. In fact you're encouraged to avoid them to hit softcap. You will need steadfast +3% def and to pick up some somewhat-expensive 6-sets (oblit, mako's) but all in all it is a fairly cheap build compared to a 5x purlet-set character. Still probably in the neighborhood of 2 billion, but... that's less than a single purple set which can go north of that mark in 4-5 IOs.
My personal shieldie is a BS/SD right now, though I'm poking at building out a DM/SD as an alt if I can find the costume/name/background. I'm worried I might be getting SD heavy in my roster though, with a SD/Axe tank wandering around there too. I hate to get too into a particular set and then have the devs take the brutal nerf bat to it. With the way player-survivability is with +def in game I'm a touch worried about that.
I kinda wish he was katana/sd. Katana got pretty sweet after they went through and updated animations, etc, back when it was a second-class broadsword. But the concept said BS, and so thus it was. -
Quote:You lost 1.2% of resistance but I lowered your end cost as well as raised your end recovActually testing last night against +1 Rikti Minions, Smite was just outperforming Fire blast
I'm thinking something like this will work better for me, I think I'll raid one of my well equip less used toons to outfit my scrapper:
I also prefer this to the last build posted because there are more useful powers slotted like Fire Blast and Fire Ball, rather than wasting 4 slots on things like boxing with purple stun IOs and 3 more on Char.
