Quote:I do completely agree that it's utterly petty for people to neg-rep you over a suggestion like this. Far as I'm concerned, rep is utterly useless, and if you want my advise, I'd suggest just turning yours off. As you've already seen, it has very little meaning but to give malicious people even more ammo.Just because someone doesn't know as much as you about the game doesn't mean you have to be rude to them. This idea wasn't meant to make or break the game. I only posted it because I thought it would add to the excitement the game already had but anyway. I'm putting it to rest.
As for the rest of your concerns, though, I haven't yet noticed people insulting you or talking down on you. A lot of people disagree with the suggestion partly because we've been there before, and partly because it IS rather a large upset to go that rout this late in the game, but you basically HAVE to expect that. People will disagree even with the arguably best of ideas. Beyond that, what did you find objectionable? -
Quote:If electricity can't flow INTO the metal, then holding it should be safe. I don't know how safe it would FEEL, but it should technically BE safe. That said, those have already been explained to be clamps, and as close as I can tell, the plastic tips are there to prevent the clamps from damaging the objects they are clamping together. As someone who never shies away from using a pipe wrench to open bottles (seriously), I can easily testify as to how much damage metal under pressure can do.I still don't see how that stops holding the metal parts from being dangerous...
Dr. Insano is Spoony's most famous "character" which he seems to have invented for... No real reason that I could pin down. As best I could tell, he may have mentioned making Insano for one of Linkara's "previously" segments, but since Spoony's own videos are not in chronological order, I can't tell if the character doesn't appear earlier than that.Quote:Oh, is that actually from something? I thought it was just random web weirdness
Basically, Dr. Insano is a sketch character that's developed a bit of an offshoot personality.
And I FRIKKIN' HATE the new wavy lines for unrecognised words in Firefox 3.6!!! -
Quote:You are required to state your birth date when you register a PlayNC account, and from how I understand it, they DO respect this data field. Back during CoV Beta, the question arose as to how PlayNC would tell what our age was to tell who would be permitted into Closed Beta. CuppaJo told me, in no uncertain terms, that I was expected to have been truthful in stating my age, and that PlayNC would respect that.It would be interesting to get some official demographic statistics, but I don't think that they exist. You don't have to tell anyone how old you are to buy the game or to log in. So other than anecdotal evidence like this thread, I don't think we'll ever know.
As such, they ought to have the necessary data for such a survey. -
Thank you for taking the time to do these. Would you by any chance happen to have a 5x4 version of them?

Fixed the obvious mistake. -
Quote:Hmm... I actually may be biassed in this. I've had a few PCs that tended to inexplicably just cut out power to the mouse (with that distinctive "ta-dum" noise of plug-n-play devices), so every time my mouse stopped moving, I'd flip it around to see if the light was on. Or, you know, just lift it off the pad. The red shine of the LED is clearly visible on most surfaces. If it's off, it's a technical glitch. If it's on, then it's something else. I mean, that's the most direct functionality check you can do, so it makes sense to do it before trying anything else.Weirdly, though, I've noticed people who check either the surface the mouse is moving on (in the case of this prank, the prankee would probably see the post-it note anyway), or just keep moving the mouse anyway. When I asked, apparently they're "used to the old mouse roller balls" or some such.
As far as roller ball mice go, I've had a lot of bad experiences with these, but whenever one wouldn't roll, my instinct was to unscrew the bottom cap, take out the ball and look for grime on the rollers. Scraping that off with my fingernail tended to fix most problems related to that. -
You act like his isn't true for every community ever. It's a fact of life. If you can point to it and laugh, then more power to you, but I wish I could point to, say, the rising sun, state its rising nature and feel fulfilled in having done so. I've tried that before, but it just isn't as satisfying as it could be.

Quote:Why are you under the impression that all tools related to electrical work must conduct electricity? Specifically, why must tools designed to be held in your hand conduct electricity? Wouldn't it be smarter for them to NOT conduct so you wouldn't shock yourself on high voltage? But they can't be for electric use because the ends are plastic - or maybe rubber.
I specifically bought myself a pair of rubber-handle pliers for this reason alone, because I often have to stick them into the light sockets of a particular lamp that likes to unglue the glass of a bulb from its metal base, which you then can't unscrew normally without glass in it.
As far as postits over your mouse's projector, wouldn't the red light be the first thing you look at when your mouse isn't moving to ensure it's actually working at all? -

I need to get this out of the way, but why is there a need to make origins mean something? This is about as useless as making character NAMES mean something. For instance, if you have "Iron" in your name, you get a bonus to resistance, if you have "Striker" in your name you get a bonus to attack, and if you have "Ling," "Xing" or "Xiao" in your name, you get an account-wide ban. Origins simply don't have to matter any more so than, say, dressing your character up in Armour Plate increases defence vs dressing your character up in cloth bikini.
Moving on to strengths and weaknesses, this has always been a good idea... In theory. I have SERIOUS doubts about how it could possibly work in practice. For instance, two of the ideas for strengths I always come up with are "Robotic Brain" which should make you less vulnerable to psychic powers and "Non-breathing," which should make you less susceptible to smoke, gas, toxins and spores. The problem with those is that they both face massive redundancy with certain powersets AND have the potential to utterly unbalance the game because of how many things they actually affect and how easily they could be min-maxed with certain ATs.
I remember Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura had something like this. I decided to be Allergic to Magic because I intended to play as a pure technologist, only to find out the game became unwinnable when I had to equip a magical amulet to reveal a hidden path. Oops! Same thing here. Who wouldn't pick, say, Naturally Ethereal that made you significantly less susceptible to physical attack over, say, Fire-Incarnate, which made you less susceptible to fire and a bit less to cold? The propensity of the damage types is just incomparable.
As far as I'm concerned, at this stage in the game, I don't believe there's any room for adding such a system. -
Um... Yeah. Literally anything else would be more awesome.
As far as Mutagen goes, I really don't like any of the Origin Attacks, especially since they're stuck as tempermanent attacks. At least put them in as inherent. I have bloody Prestige Power Slide on my enhancements screen, but not this? -

Quote:OK, that's definitely worth a bookmarkHey all, I was kind of bored tonight, so I threw this together. Keep in mind that javascript isn't a language I dabble in much, so if there are bugs, oops. With that being said, maybe it will be a little bit useful, so enjoy!

One quick question - is this synced up to the actual game? If so, having... Well, a real in-game watch would be VERY handy!
And, of course, thank you very much for the script

Quote:I'm 24, myself, and if my limited experience has taught me one thing, it's that the actual age of a person really isn't a good indicator of mental prowess, strength of character or height of virtue. Ever since I was younger still, people have been confusing me with an irritable old man, and I'll give you a hint - it's not because I'm wise and justI'm 24, and I'm not sure if my existence supports or refutes your claim!
By the same token, I've met many an old man who, if it wasn't for his physical age, I could swear was a little, whiny kid. On the flip side, I know of at least one kid who was 16 last I was in contact with him, who acted more like he was 30.
Then again, stereotypes of juvenile pests exist for a reason, and there's no denying our community owes at least a decent part of its friendliness to our overall older player base. For what it's worth, I enjoy reading about you folks in your 60s still playing games and loving it, too. I hope you don't mind me using your examples as arguments next time I get into an argument with one of my short-sighted country folk who believe video games are for little kids. -

Quote:See, this is the kind of thing that makes my eyes turn around in my head. We spent how long with people making new threads to whine about not having enough Going Rogue info? And now people (obviously other people) are complaining that we're getting too much Going Rogue information too far into the future and we should know less.Personally I'm annoyed at how far ahead they advertise. We knew about Going Rogue about a year before it will actually come out. That is just too long to wait for something. I would much prefer they not announce it until a few months before it is released. My excitement for things completely dies if I have to wait that long to get what I originally got excited about.
And people thing game development is a GRRRATE job

Interestingly, I just noticed that MY HENCHMEN don't seem to spaz out and run. Many times today, my Bots got hit with Immunes Engineer burn patches, but rather than than flip out and run across the map, they'd basically drop what they were doing, sidestep two feet away and keep on shooting like nothing happened.
I sincerely hope that's not aberrant behaviour! -
Quote:I'm sorry to sidestep basically the whole idea, but I really can't go with this. We already have enough of a restricting storyline with City of Villains and its "Destined One" crap, plus those horribly intrusive Patrons. I'd rather not have whatever the Incarnate levels are consist of even more limitations. Retroactively, it's fairly easy to claim that Incarnates are just exceptionally strong beings defined as such by power level (OVER 9000!!! as it were), rather than specific concept. The Statesman and Lord Recluse can then be easily explained to be incredibly strong because they got their power from the gods, but other people could be just as strong for entirely different reasons.First, what is an Incarnate? I'm sure this is highly debateable, but I think I'll go with the human embodiment of a deific being with a portion of it's power. Tartarus for Lord Recluse and Zeus for Statesman, to name the two most prolific. There's another deific being in the game already, but I'll get to that.
In fact, call it a rarer version of a standard origin. If your character is Magic because he found A magical artefact, he becomes Magic Incarnate because either he found or it turned out his was THE magical artefact. If a character is Technology because he devised A suit of power armour, then he will become Technology Incarnate when he invents THE suit of power armour to beat all others.
I realise that "Incarnate" may or may not have been intended to be a wholly different origin, but the phrasing Something Incarnate actually has tangible meaning, so I don't think it needs to be tied to the gods to the exception of everything else. As with origins, let ME decide what I'm a physical incarnation of. -

Quote:Yeah, fighting Rikti just now, all I basically did was cycling attacks. Rikti base maps are straightforward, and once Sefu and WMD got themselves killed and stopped overaggroing, the bots didn't need much control. I'd basically try to open with Repulsion Bomb and Photon Grenade while the enemies were still clumped together, and from there on I looked for low-health Rikti to basically take pot shots at so the bots wouldn't have to bother. After all, better that I shoot the thing with Pulse Rifle Burst than have my Assault Bot waste an Explosive Missile Swarm or Dual Plasma Cannon on it when it has, like, 50 hit points leftHonestly, the personal attacks are fine to get. Especially as a bubbler. Before the general consensus was that taking the personal attacks = noob, but that's far from the truth. Why not add damage to your bots? I think it's dumb when I see a MM sitting there with his arms crossed not doing anything. There's so much more you can add by taking some of the attacks. Photon Grenade is excellent, the stun stacks well with the protector bots'.

For some reason, I can't seem to get much mileage out of Repulsion Field. It has some SERIOUS repel to it and it just scatters enemies everywhere when I try to push them against a wall. Heck, in the Rikti base maps, I actually manage to drive them UP the slanted walls and into the ceiling
It's good if enemies are standing next to a corner, but it's REALLY hard to control. Good for keepaway, though. Haven't seen anything that could run through it yet. I'm sure there are a few things, but eh.

Quote:I've actually had to use it on a few occasions. Drawing overwhelming aggro on myself is one, especially when teaming. Seeing my henchmen wipe - and it does happen, is another, as I'd rather turtle up and run away than die with them. It IS a situational power, true, but at least in the situations it's useful for, it doesn't cost much to use it. If I have to pick between Personal Forcefield and Repulsion Field, I'll take PFF every day. It costs me a power pick, but RF costs me a power pick AND my entire endurance barPersonal forcefield is a nice 'get out of town' power, but honestly I've found little use for it. Masterminds are tough, Bots/FF are toughest of the tough. You throw on bodyguard mode, and stuff just can't do much, provided the pets have their bubbles. If you do want it, recharge is probably all you want in there. It caps you, but you can't do much else. As you can't do much else, you won't use that much endurance doing not much whilst secluded in your bubble. It's a long recharge, so if you do need it, getting it back can't be a bad thing.
-
Hmm... OK, that actually does answer most of my questions.
On Repulsion Field: I understand that I'm supposed to use it like a click only in short bursts, but even then, it still costs a lot and doesn't really do much. Not much that Force Bubble can't, at any rate, and I've already managed to corner-pin a few spawns with the large bubble - something I've never managed with Repulsion Field. Keeping enemies away from me doesn't really seem like such a useful skill, particularly since I can turtle up in Personal Forcefield, call up Bodyguard, Hover straight up or, you know, turn on Force Bubble
I'm dropping Repulsion Field first chance I get. It just costs far too much for what it does.
On Personal Attacks: Currently, I have Pulse Rifle Blast, Pulse Rifle Burst, Photon Grenade, Repulsion Bomb and, the way things are looking, Mace Beam Volley up next. I realise this isn't what a Mastermind should be doing, but as long as I have time on my hands, I might as well make the most of it. Plus, if I corner pin a large spawn, why NOT pitch in and lay down some AoE? As far as the single-target attacks go, they have knockback on them, and they CAN kill weaker enemies like Engineers, Surgeons, Comm. Officers and so forth. Might as well. They're not good use for endurance, but I can just not use them when I'm low, so it's all good.
On Power Boost: I didn't realise it boosted by this much. Definitely worth getting, ESPECIALLY for the Protector Bots, who can't multi-shield each other. I hadn't realised it's so short-duration, though. What is it, 15 seconds? At each double-shielding taking 4.14 seconds plus whatever Arcana-time that entails sounds like just about enough time to shield three people. Good call, and I'm going with this. I'm not sure I'll need to slot it for recharge, since my shields ought to last longer than its base recharge anyway. Well, maybe one in the default slot. We'll see.
On Protector Bots: No, I'm not running Tactics. Sorry. I have it on my Mercs/Traps and I don't want to repeat myself. Plus, unlike my Colonel Kroenen ripoff, this one will be running a Patron shield. So far, against the things I'm fighting, my Protector Bots seem to be doing pretty well on just one enhancement, a 40 Common Accuracy. They're registering 95% to-hit, which is satisfactory and seems to hold for most things I'm likely to face anyway. I have them slotted for Heal right now, and I may or may not be running into the AI problem. Will they wait until my other bots drop significantly lower than they can heal? I seem to have seen a few Drones running around in the red for quite some time, at much less than 40% health and not being healed. The Protectors might have just been waiting for their heal to recharge, though. I don't know.
And I've decided to slot them for endurance reduction. Whether or not they need it, it doesn't hurt for them to have one, and it reduces the cost of summoning them, to boot. I could have stuck in more heal, I suppose, but I HAVE seen them drain themselves, which is something I don't enjoy seeing. I'm actually considering slotting the Battle Drones for reduction, as well. They don't need it, but a cheaper summon is always a plus.
And... I guess that's that. Thank you
*edit*
A-hah! I know what I'm going to take instead of Repulsion Field! Group Flight!
I'll never make up the to-hit penalty for that, not with slotting, not with Tactics, but I don't intend to use it for fighting anyway. I just want to have a way to turn my Bots' jet boots on. Cool, it had me wondering
*edit*
One more question!
Personal Forcefield: I don't know what has possessed me to do this, but I have in my plans an intended defence enhancement slotted into that thing. And I have to ask (ask myself, indeed) why? Even just on its base slot, Personal Forcefield caps my defences to everything it defends against, and by a fair bit. AND it stacks with Dispersion Bubble. What POSSIBLE reason could I have had to plan for this? -
April Fools' day as a general concept isn't funny. I don't think it has ever been. Maybe 200 or more years ago, if it's even that old, maybe whenever it was invented. But never in my lifetime has it been funny. Not even amusing, not for a giggle. It's just a trite obligation.
Then again, I find practical jokes themselves to be nothing more than childish inanity and distinctly unfunny, so maybe I'm biassed.
For what it's worth, obvious as it may have been, the concept of City of Sidekicks was at least amusing, and it did end up playing on a few of the tropes we created ourselves. The very term of phrase "City of Sidekicks" has been used by professional trolls a few times, right alongside "City of Civilians." So it shows a bit of thought and a bit of imagination. And that Yes/No letter shows quite a bit of insight into comic book tradition, both good and bad.
So, no, it wasn't funny, but I don't think it ever stood a chance of being that. But it was clever and interesting, and that's good enough for me.
