So, who thinks that the Devs had SW:OR in their minds a bit when they decided to give us a moral compass?
[/ QUOTE ]
Really? You asked if CoH is stealing stuff from a game that isn't even out yet? Wow, that's pretty awesome. I didn't know that the CoH staff had stolen this idea three years ago when they first announced it.
Oh yeah, this was originally planned back when CoV started, I have villains that are ready to become Heroes and Heroes that are ready to become Villains and have since CoV opened. They are all L50 and have rather good gear. Now I just have to return to the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Once again no... I'm not saying they're stealing it again it's not like Bioware is the only company that ever does it... and again there are other ways to do a defection between a hero and villain (it could have been a special task force or story arc)... and no they didn't announce a moral compass three years ago...
I never said they stole it, I never said it's the exclusive providence of bioware... please don't put words in my mouth.
All I was wondering is if the timing and exectution are meant to attract people who are looking foward to a similar feature in SW:OR -

Alright, I will do one tomorrow, chosen randomly from those who have actually want it right now.
[/ QUOTE ]
how are you going to pick, die roll?
Pick me, pick me, pick me. -
I know this was a bad experience but I think the 2 strike rule would work well and I'm gonna enjoy watching a video of someone playing my arc and seeing what they have to say, even if they don't like it. So please don't quit.

This was a good arc, I give it 5 stars! Interesting story.
--------------------------
Here is my arc:
Mission name: Welcome to Paragon PC
ARC ID: 174401
Morality: Heroic
Length: Very Long(5 missions)
Enemy Groups: Council, Freakshow, Nemesis Automatons, Crey and Arachnos.
Description: Want to build the Pinnacle of PCs? We can Help! Talk to an associate today!
------------------------------------
I'm afraid there's not much story to it, but I made it to have fun. Easily soloable. Let me know what you think!
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay, playing it now so apparantly I'm out to build the ultimate gaming rig (it'd be nice seeing as I'm playing on a laptop that can barely handle this game)... So off to get a 10 TB Hard Drive. There's really no exposition explaining that I'm going to go steal it from the council which would be nice... even just a pop up on entry, "you arrive at a council base, they've always got the best computer stuff" or something...
Anyway I see that freaks are also attacking trying to get the hard drive... I stealth grab the hard drive and search for the base leader...
So I find the base leader, who's actually named Base Leader (real creativity there)... as he's playing on his laptop and take him out.
In the second mission I need to grab...
1: Intel i8 Premium Motherboard
2: 16 GB of DDR4 Memory
3: Intel Octo Core 4.2GHz CPU
I dunno if we get up to having 8 cores in a CPU 4.2 GHz seems a little smal for the processing power.
Anyway this time I'm warned in advance that it's gonna be freakshow, so off I am to steal more gaming components for great justice.
Apparantly the memory comes in 4 GB boards so there's quite a few clickies here and this time the boss has an actual name.
[NPC] L33T L00T: I'm L33T! And I've go L00T! Get it? Get it?
If he was really 1337 he'd use the 1 and the 7 ;p But he makes lame jokes so I guess he's not anyway.
So once again it's a stealth grab for me.
Next mission I'm going after the video card and someone is being held hostage... this is kinda odd for me I know the arc s marked as heroic but I'm stealing just to make an awesome rig (yes from bad guys but...), I dunno rescuing a bystander just feels a bit out of place.
There was an ambush that triggered on the last box but I didn't feel like fighting them so I exited.
Now we're stealing a prototype Crey product... wow considering Crey Corp is one of the makers of AE you think they wouldn't like that... also now we're stealing from a legit company which happens to be run by a crime lord... feeling even less heroic.
Protector 1138, that's not a joke on THX-1138 is it?
WOW.... Longbow is willing to lend a submarine just to take me to the Rogue Isles to steal a power supply?
And yay for invading soverign nations to steal stuff! I feel super heroic now.
Edit: Review for last mission added
So, Arachnos expected me and put up a forcefield when I entered the base, I'd expect some of the spawns to have something to say but they were too busy with some running inventory gag.
Still over all, pretty fun liked the Contacts outfit with the i/o symbol on her chest... and the final joke about having to pay for all my stolen components.
But yeah, mission feels more neutral, the hostage rescue feels out of place, and the arachnos soldiers should either know I'm there or not.
I give it a 4/5, very good.
Anyway, my arc is...

Might I take this moment to point out Dungeons & Dragons? Good/Evil-Lawful/Chaotic. A system invented years before computer games were sophisticated enough to include those kinds of scales.
The fact that CoX is adopting a moral compass is simply a natural progression of the game based on the world setting. I highly doubt it's any kind of kneejerk reaction to the new Star Wars MMO having a similar thing. After all, as others have mentioned, it's not a last minute idea; it's likely they've been moulding the game for it for several issues and had been planning it long before we even saw any changes ourselves.
[/ QUOTE ]
This board could really use a multquote function... (yeah I know I could do it manually).
Anyway, I agree that it was inevitable for the side swapping to happen, but it didn't have to be executed in this way...
Secondly, Alignment changes were never too common in pen and paper RPGs, they did happen but not all that much, except for the two star wars RPGs which relied on a dark side points system.
Thirdly for those that say the Star Wars MMO is not competition, I think it still is... there's only so many MMOs people can afford to, or have the time to play. A lot of comic book fans are also Star Wars fans, and there are also some players who just look for fun MMOs and don't care about the setting. (I know a lot of people who don't know the Warhammer miniatures game from lego men but still lover Warhammer Online). So while is not going to be 100% crossover, it will dip somewhat into the same pool.
Last thought... CoH in setting and the feel of the major NPCs always seemed a lot more like DC then Marvel to me... DC doesn't have nearly as much sideswapping as Marvel does.
Sure you got Hal Jordan becoming Paralax, or Hawk going crazy... you get the occasional conversion but Marvel deals a lot moe with moral relativism where DC usually only tackles that during special events, and tries to keep a grander, cleaner and more mythological image. Not to say it isn't there, and you've got heroes who the media turns against them (Supergirl) just like in Marvel... but the lines are more clear cut I've found. You got you're Supermans and Batmans and you've got your Jokers, Darksieds and Lex Luthors.
I don't know if it's the source material that made it inevitable or the player's perception of what a superhero MMO should be, but side swapping was inevitable even if the moral compass wasn't. -
[ QUOTE ]
I hardly see the "moral compass" mechanic as something unique to BioWare, as Karma mechanics of various types have existed for years and years and years. While I don't remember if it had an exact numeric measurement, the original Fallout had a very strong dependence on "reputation" with the various cities.
[/ QUOTE ]
I never said it was... I said it was hardly a new idea, I've deffinitly played many different games with a similar system. Even the Sakura Wars games from 2 on had a shall we say "serious-ness" bar that dictated if your character was laid back or a strict military hardass.
What I did say, is that it's a trademark of Bioware not in a litteral sense, but in the sense that they obviously love this feature and use it in all of their games including their upcomming MMO. -
So we've heard tons of fans talking bout how the current issue, and the upcomming expansion are meant to keep the game competitive against those other two Superhero MMOs that are coming out... but I'm wondering about the Moral Compass and it's potential to try and make this game compete with Bioware's upcomming Star Wars: Old Republic.
While the idea of a shifting alignment system is certainly not unique it is a trademark fo Bioware games... and also of Stars Wars RPGs... and is said to play a big role in SW:OR, where Sith won't always be bad and Republic won't always be good.
So, who thinks that the Devs had SW:OR in their minds a bit when they decided to give us a moral compass?
I know the "let me switch sides" thing has been asked for a long time... but they could have simply had a defection story-arc/strike force and instead they gave us this moral compass thing. -

You would think so, but then you can't have a character named Thing either.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or Cyclops or Storm or Atom or a lot of other common words. They're trademarked names for popular comic book characters, so even if the character looks completely different, the names themselves would get hit by the generic stick.
[/ QUOTE ]
Trademarks are tricky things and sometimes the powers that be in this game are too cautious. For example Marvel can't have a trademark on Thor he's a mythological character but they can trademark The Mighty Thor, same with Cyclops... this game has Cyclops for the Cimeroran traitors... Storm and Atom can be trademarked for their specific useage of superhero characters because they're not proper nouns. same with The Thing...
Bishop you might be able to get away with if you make him chess themed or make him an actual Bishop... it's also sometimes people's names. -

Thats right! I will actually review your arc AS I PLAY IT! Whats the cost for this fabulous feature? Nothing.
Nada, zip, zero, zilch.
I find that I do my best reviewing while I play. Coupled with the fact that I run a gaming website and could use the content gave me the idea to do this.
Basically, I will run 1 arc a week and review it. However, I will actually video me playing thru the arc, and comment as I play. This allows me to point things out as I go, and also make silly comments about the arc in generalOr go OMG THAT SO OSSUM. Take your pick.
The first people up in the que are the ones who actually reviewed my arc from my previous thread, You play yours You play Mine Revised Edition.
I have the following characters availble to test with. Please point out in your post which one would be best used for your arc.
Rumble Shock - 34 SS/WP Brute
Mikahl Zarak - 26 FM/WP Scrapper
The Midnight Falconeer - 17 DM/WP Scrapper
Vendigroth - 7 Elec/WP Brute
(can you tell I like the WP Secondary?)
I play Solo on the lowest difficulty.
Current Que:
Mandu - Arc 113956 "The Devs Must Die"
Dragon Fist Tavian - Arc 164362
Cien Feugos - Arc 164839
JKevinCarrier - 99458, "The Unbearable Being of Lightness
Spatch - 21144, Spanks For The Memories
Ladioss_Sopp - Austrian Polytechnic ArcID: 19239
Next on the list? COULD BE YOU!
Oh and I forgot to mention! The reviews will be posted directly on my site, and I will link to them here. The direct posts that is.

I'd say take your highest scrapper or the Brute (if you don't mind doing a good guy story on an evil toon)... it's got EBs but I think you can handle them on lowest difficulty and 2 out of 4 times you got back up on this one. -

Um... I really don't think NCSoft would let you use that one for long if you managed to get it, GATTACA.

It's also a rank in the Church and a chess piece... so as long as he doesn't make a black man from the future who channels kenetic energy, he should be okay. -

make an official report on this. It might be worth a bug hunter badge.
I truly think you've hit upon something nobody even considered.
[/ QUOTE ]
I did /bug it in game... probably not worth the badge though it's by no means game breaking; I could simply drop the mission. you saw that I have the cape mission in there, I was originally going to use my wand on that mish, but I thought this is way to fun not to test -
Lost Curing Wand Bug
Here we have a little experiment I ran... since AE enemies do not count towards kill totals, and it runs like a Task Force what happens if you expend your Lost wand on Lost in test mode?
Your counter goes over on number cured... but the mission does not complete, the wand disapeared after 21 uses, and now if I want to ever enter the Midnighter Club my only recourse is to drop...
It's pretty much what I expected though I thought my cure total would be at zero... most people are not going to be silly enough to try this, but pretty interesting no? -
[ QUOTE ]
Ohh, I so wish I could make the political commissars kill the other Russian troops when they run away. I don't know of a good way to do this though; I could flag the commissars as "Rogue" but then all the other Russians would probably kill them, which wouldn't be quite what I want.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah unless there's an actual WWII MMO (or a Warhammer 40K MMO) I don't ever see this happening.
Anyway final mission...
found Schadenfrued... The frauline I like her she's a really cool character. I also like how you made a custom group with a real group name for her (I do the same thing in my second Oz arc)... anyway after taking down MacArthur (oh no Japanese culture will never be the same!) I only have her and one of my Panzer Generals left hopefully that will be enough to keep me ahead for the hero fight.
Schadenfrued isn't playing follow Die Furor very well, even the privates seem pretty tough on mass...
Kinda expected something more out of Truman then "statesman where are you?" I mean I just captured the President of the United States... I was expecting some cool clue off of him.
get back to the start of the map where Maiden Justice spawned... snipe some privates near her that could get involved in the battle. (I really have fun using the trees for cover sniping and ducking behind till they get close enough for Shaudenfrued and the panzer General to finish off)...
Almost kill her but forgot to use my radiation toggles and she finnishes off the three of us... (been so long since I played as a corroptur)... just couldn't beat her on my own at level 19 a Rad/Rad just couldn't handle it.... so got some PUGs and took down her and Patton...
Forgot to send you a tell to prove that I did it... but I don't think you doubt me.
Anyway looking forward to hearing what you think of my second arc. -
Here's my review of Axis and Allies... written as I played it.
As I'm writing this, I'm playing through your Axis and Allies arc...
I'm playing with a Rad/Rad Corrupter on the easiest difficulty.
Mission 1: Assasinate the Fuhrer
First of all it's always interesting to see this take, killing Hitler not to avoid the Second World War but to make the Nazi party stronger in his absence. It's interesting that you've gone ahead and let him establish his regime, and have him cut down so someone else can make wise choices (like not breaking the non-aggression pact with Russia until the Pacific War is over maybe?) Showing that the contact believes in Hitler's ideals but still regards him as a stupid painter who caused the Nazi's defeat.
HEH! Dolf Schicklegruber you used his mother's surname... his original last name, nice.
Okay unfortunately the Fraulein who I rescued died way before I got to Hitler, and he killed me many many times. But then I stocked up on insps and came back (It was fun though... just very tough for my build on it's current low level).
Okay so now I'm the Fuhrer and it's off to Dunkirk to stop those who oppose the master race. By the way any mention of the Maginot line always makes me laugh... the Maginot line proving how useless fixed fortifications are since the 1940s.
Okay gotta take out Gort and Weygand on an outdoor map, so out comes my custom targeting Macro...
Oh there's something terribly funny about Gort's
Lord Gort: Blimey! It's the bloody Fuhrer
He says this line staring up at a flying demoness who's raining death down upon his head from above.
And now off to St. Petersburg, I mean Leningrad I mean Stalingrad...
the Map doesn't work as well as the last one... I mean ruined skyscrapers, super hero statues and monorail tracks? oh well...
So I decide my first act will be to rescue my loyal general, hopefully he will give me some back up agains these nasty masterminds that keep killing me...
So I find Paulus and see two of my 5th Column soldiers who've won their fight nearby and decide to use them as meat shields...
too bad you couldn't make the commissars shoot some of their own troops, would have made me feel better...
So I totally forgot up till this point that I was on a toon that had a healing aura (so used to my scrapper) would have been a good thin when I was with the Fraulein in the first episode... but I manage to keep my man Paulus alive while we look for the other two generals which proves to take a while.
ah no, a commissar blindsides me while I'm chasing some fleeing Russian troops and kills Paulus... come on, commissar kill the fleeing Russian troops that's your job.
So I find the first general, and I'm so tired of Master Minds at this point...
Anyway two dead Generals later, yay I've won the war on both fronts... what's next?
Oh nice an invasion of the US! Wall of Blue text as several allies go off?
Well I was about to capture the President when I map served and I should have been asleep hours ago, so we'll have to leave off here for the moment and finish reviewing the arc tomorrow, I can say that (despite the fact that all the master minds really ticked me off, though I understand thematically why they fit...) I will give it 5 stars for awesome attention to historical detail.
Though in my version of the story after this last mission... my demon character will eat all the Columnists souls and thank them for messing up their Hatread and evil. No victory for the Nazis in my playtime.
Dunno if I can make you owe me another one for reviewing your arc (since you already did one in exchange for me playing either the Teeny bopper one or the Kidnapping one not sure which both were awesome)... But I did enjoy your insights into my first Oz arc, so I'd like you to look at the quasi-sequal.

Either way I'll finish my review tomorrow. -
Well so far my arcs are designed for me to roleplay in, but I also make them enjoyable for others who might just want to play... for example I'm roleplaying a litterary character (Ozma from the Oz novels) she's public domain so don't worry about that... and in my second arc that I just published she is the contact and shows up as an NPC in the last mission... when I'm roleplaying that I'll ignore it and act as the contact myself and pretend there isn't a double of me in the last mission.

Well they've gone and done it now. Today's patch put a limit on the number of tickets you can get as per which map your are playing. That's right, we now have a ticket limit per mish. A small [censored] ticket limit. So all your challenging mish's are worthless and rewards dismal!! NO SALVAGE DROPS, NO RECIPE DROPS, NO KILLS COUNTING FOR BADGES and now TINY TICKET Rewards. Why even do AE mish's now??? Back to being poor [censored] bastards not being able to aford io's unles you buy inf from outside sources. Without tickets it's even harder to get good recipes and we are AGAIN forced to pay [censored] prices for good recipe's on the black market. I have a tough arc and damnit I want my damn ticket rewards back!!! Always punishing people for making good toons cause it "might" be exploited. Tired of the [censored] farmers killing the game. Why the hell make exceptional toons now if you can't benifit... Not everyone farms damnit!!!!!!
You devs are butt wipes man~!!!!!! You have put such a small ticket limit on mish's now I hate you all of you.

Except for those of us who enjoyed seeing new fresh stories and enemies and who just enjoyed the tickets as what they were a bonus.

Hi, so I finally got to start adding things on here... just two characters and a supergroup (which is just of one person so far... *grumbles*) But I hope to add more charactrs and my MA arcs and rp stories in the coming weeks.

Sorry, I have everything unlocked, but I'm not sure if I'm just not seeing these two and their groups or if they're just not available. But I want to use Tyrant and Antimatter in a Praetorian based arc I'm doing... right now I have States and Posi as stand ins... but are the characters there or no?
-
Okay I'm working on an arc, and the second or third mission could potentially be veiwed as a Farm... but I'm trying to discourage its use as such; allow me to ellaborate.
Basically the mission will have between 20-40 glowies depending on the final map choice, so it could be used to farm glowie badges.
To combat the desire to glowie farm this, in addition to being in the middle of an arc... I will have the following rules in place.
Only one to two of these glowies are going to be actual objectives (the clue to the objective will make it pretty clear which one it is).
Each glowie will have an interact time of 1 minute, making it tedius to farm.
The Mission has a time limit of 20 min or less... making it impossible to click all the glowies before the mission ends.
There is an AV to fight in that time limit as well.
Is that enough to make up for the high ammount of glowies? -
Thank you so much for the detailed review. I will fix up all the typos. I'm actually working on a novel right now (a semi-wickedish take on the character of Ozma of Oz just dumping ideas that come to me that wouldn't work in the book into the game so they don't get wasted.) So feedback on any works especially Oz works is appretiated.

The Prisoners from the Land of Oz review
Briefing: Glinda the Good is the contact and she has a pretty well-written briefing asking me to rescue Dorothy and Tiktok, a mechanical man. She thinks Clockwork are like Tiktok, so I need to do a Defeat all clockwork.
Mission title: "Defeat all clockwork" should probably be "Defeat all Clockwork" as Clockwork always seems to be capitalized in the canon material.
It's a defeat all, map is sorta medium sized, so not too bad. Decent clue at the end. Debriefing a little short, but OK. I think this mission needed some more stuff in it other that just killing clockwork, to make it a little more interesting.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks for the idea... I might add to it. I'm working on a second arc that's totally Oz based, so I might do a little bit to tie them together.

Mission 2
Glinda seems to have a magic book where she reads about what happens next; neat idea. (Probably from the original books, but I haven't read those.)
Arachnos defender: "It's Kyrie Eleison , stop her !" (where Kyrie Eleison is my character's name) has an extra space after the name and before the exclamation point.
I'm not sure I understand reason why I was sent on this mission. How does saving this Arachnos base from Clockworks contribute to finding Tiktok the clockwork man? Seems a plot problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually I thought that was explained. Basically there is an outside force that's masking Dorothy and Tiktok from Glinda's magic book (and yes it is from the novels, and any time a missing person story is done it has to be neutralized somehow). So Glinda couldn't simply look up Tiktok and say, "oh hey he's here." But what she could do is agrivate the Clockwork King hoping he would do something significant, that would relate to Tiktok. The first time wasn't enough to give the full details, so the raid had to be stoped too.
I guess I'll work on the return dialog or the previous mission, to try and explain that a bit better.

Mission 3
Glinda tells me to go to a cave, but entering the mission, it appears to be an office (at least the front part is). Tiktok is supposed to be in the cave, but I found him in the office part of the map. You can probably straighten this out by either making the whole map a cave, or changing Glinda to say something about an office with a cave under it.
[/ QUOTE ]
umm she does say a cave under the Franklin building (my homage to L Frank Baum for the arc), and he's always spawned in the tunnels for me... weird.
Also I wasn't sure how puncutation would effect chat variables so I gave it an extra space. I'll fix that.
[ QUOTE ]
Debriefing still too short.
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay, noted.

"Defeat Tessa" is in the mission objectives, but she hasn't been introduced until this mission, so it isn't clear why you need to defeat her. Either give some info about her before you enter the mission, or make "Defeat Tessa" trigger off of getting the contract signed by Tessa.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is a good point; I wanted to make the contract serve to add a bit of extra flavour, and be optional. But I might make it a requirement.
[ QUOTE ]
When you rescue Dorothy, all she says is "Thank you!" which doesn't seem enough when this whole story arc has been building up to rescuing her. I did see that she gave a clue, but I still think she needs more dialog here.
[/ QUOTE ]
Good point. I'll expand on that.

After defeating Dr. Vahzilok, Alexa and the Family suddenly spawned and the objective changed without explanation. I think you might want to add a clue to tell the player that they now need to defeat Alexa too. Though I kinda think it is a little underwhelming to beat Dr. Vahzilok, THEN fight some girl who was trying to pay him to cure her cancer. It makes more sense for Dr. Vahzilok to be the big bad guy, than this Family girl, even with her mob connections.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well she was supposed to be his back up (she actually spawns at 50 percent health) but she doesn't often spawn close enough.

Overall
I thought the Oz theme was neat, but I think you did not use it enough. I think you could use even more Oz imagery and enemies. Perhaps the sisters hiring Dr Vahzilok could actually be analogs of the Wicked Witch of the East and Wicked Witch of the West? Maybe some flying monkeys? Red caps for munchkins? Maybe you need to steal back the ruby slippers from someone in order to get Dorothy home?
Some of the earlier missions I think needed more stuff to do in them. I did like the subplot of the sisters hiring Dr Vahzilok to use Dorothy for their own nefarious purposes, but think that the mafia sisters aren't dangerous enough to use as the big bad guy of the arc; I think the final boss should either be Dr Vahzilok or perhaps a Wicked Witch.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wicked witches are out, I've played through about 7 Oz arcs (like I said I'm writing a novel, and am looking for inspiration in a rather safe forum) and almost all of them are "The Witch of the West returns, trusses up the 4 classic friends... go save them" or sometimes the 3 friends from Oz go bad, or loose their heart, courage and brains. The Witches were never a major factor in the books, the Nome King was more of recurring and deadly enemy.
The point of the sisters was too add some moral ambiguity, and take away from the cliche' evil of Dr. V. Is it fair that Dorothy gets to live forever when this other girl will die?
Just like I tried to add some ambiguity with the Clockwork portion... Tiktok refers to himself as Dorothy's slave (both in the novels and here in the arc) so the Clockwork king sees himself as a liberator.
But I might add to it. Like I said a sequal arc is in the works; I just figured out who was blocking Glinda's magic so I might put some hints about that in.
Thanks again for your detailed review, I will tweak my arc shortly. -
So I tried your other arc the teen one... I found the monitor duty misison to be insanely hard (but then I was soloing on invincible so tackling a rad AV at that level is pretty crazy) and for some reason in that mission the helpers were kinda passive.
But over all I really liked the arc, I'll have to re-do it and give you a full review later, cause I forgot it was yours when I did it. -
so either way, flood the thing with everything I can? okay I think I had that worked out the first time I was still getting a couple enemies but I didn't input the ally spawns yet so that must have been why. Thank you.
