To add to the excellent advice given in the posts above, I have heard that WP works better with 2 Taunt enhancers in it, to get the duration to overlap. Given WP's large endurance recovery, can you switch one of the end reds for another taunt?

Also, slot Fault all the way up, it's very effective if you do. I'd consider frankenslotting a/s/r triples from all 4 Stun sets and a r/e and the proc from Force Feedback. That's pretty nice.

Your name is Necrotech Master and (prior to this thread) you didn't like Zombie Invasions?
  3. I noticed a statement about Inv that struck me as odd in the OP:

What does "manage very high energy resists" mean? Isn't Inv's energy/negative resistance pretty much the same as its fire/cold resistance? And not, on Scrappers, what I would describe as "very high?"

    35+ Exp

Just play. At 35, you'll get exp fast enough to push you right on up. Try joining the Weekly Task Force when it's in your level range, that's big exp.
  5. /Sonic resistance debuffs & Freezing Rain
/Ice slows and rains with Storm's slows and rains
    /Energy knockback with Storm chaos

Those are the ones that spring to my mind.
  6. I hate to be the first person to have a problem with the amended plan. I like it, but it will pose one problem for a small number of us.

The Iron Eagles supergroup has a mammoth thread in Player Events. It probably shouldn't even be IN that forum in the first place, as it started out as sort of a SG recruitment thread, but it has long since morphed into an ongoing historical record filled with tales of adventure and our own peculiar kind of heartbreak.

I understand that almost everything else in the Player Events section is just publicity for events that occur at a fixed point in time, and as such, rapidly fades away in relevance, but I personally feel like the Iron Eagles thread is different. We play by our own voluntary "hardcore" rules, and delete our characters when they are defeated. Many have fallen, and the characters are now gone -- only the tales of their epic deeds remain, in that thread.

I hate to plead for special treatment, but would it be possible to move the entire (admittedly huge) thread somewhere? The SG is based on the Justice server, so perhaps the Justice Server forum would be the best home for it?

That kindness would make us very happy and still permit the planned consolidation of forums.

    Thanks for reading,

    Sailboat

PS: I will PM this post to Avatea. Fingers crossed!

Wow, thanks for the help, Avatea!!!
  7. I certainly agree with the posters pointing out that the Defenders would have been much more effective had they played more aggressively and leveraged their debuffs. However, in the grand tradition of the forums, want to nitpick one tiny item in your post:

I have a hard time thinking of teams as "balanced" or "unbalanced." I'd want to call that a Defender-heavy or mostly-ranged team, maybe, but "unbalanced" makes it seem like there's some optimal team makeup from which that team deviated, and I don't really feel that's the case. It was an unusual team, yeah.

One of the charms of the game is how all sorts of different combinations of ATs and powersets can achieve their goals if they play to each other's strengths. What you had here was players not playing to their own strengths, and not changing their play to mesh with yours.

Leaving is certainly a legitimate option. But it can be rewarding to show a group like that how to work together and maximize their synergy. It might be tricky to explain things without coming across as bossy, and the typing required is a pain, but sometimes those teams can really turn around. It's up to you whether you have the inclination and patience to step up and make the effort -- I know I don't always feel like it myself.

  8. And by the way, don't feel any embarrassment over posting the question. LOTS of people have run across that and been confused. The last time somebody asked me about it, he was, in fact, looking at the Battle Axe set.

    Best confuser

Ice's confuse doesn't use any animation time at all, and it's autohit.

    Definitely draws aggro though.

I don't think I need to explain why the devs would likely frown on that.

  12. A very rough rule of thumb I've used with Mid's foir endurance calculation is that having my end recovery at least 2 whole points per second above my end burn from toggles is a good place to be, assuming I have moderate end reduction slotting in my attack chain roughly one SO or more). It's not precise, because different powersets and playstyles will bur end at different rates. But it gives me a ballpark figure to determine how much more effort I need to put into endurance when looking at a build.
  13. I'll be darned, clearing the cache worked.

Weird that I've been doing that for a long time, it used to work, it works now, but at some point it did NOT work and that's the page that got cached and stayed cached. Oh well. Thanks!

  15. I guess it's true, "you can't go home again."

I am used to going directly to the forums when I come here (http://boards.cityofheroes.com/), and, when I want to read the main COH site (which used to be at http://www.cityofheroes.com/ -- almost always to look under /news/patch notes) I would just hit Statesman up at the top, or the "OFFICIAL SITE" tab at the top left. But now both of those take me to the Learn more about Freedom" splash page (http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/freedom.php). Before launch, that page used to have an "OFFICIAL SITE" tab which took me where I want to go, but that's gone now.

I can drill down through the Freedom splash page (curiously, "Home" does NOT get me to the home page, but "Community" does) and discover that what I think of as the "home page" is now http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/index.php.

Is there some way to get there in fewer clicks and less memorization of goofy things like "remember Community means Home?" I know I could set a bookmark, but I go there so seldom it seems like a waste of bookmark space. I can't recall seeing a site that made it so difficult to get to the "main" page. Why can't I go from these forums to http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/index.php with a single click again?

It's like they want to make sure that people who mostly read the forums know there's a game you can pay for. I think we know that already.

Excellent point. Currently I can search on "Hurricane" in the Defender forum and be very likely to get Defender stats for the power and descriptions of how Defenders use the power -- which is very different from how, say, Masterminds use it. Merge the forums and I will get everything in my searches, necessitating much more labor on my own part.

    How would that work?

Additional guidelines will need to be read, digested, and acted upon -- it will require more thought, not less.

When you lump ATs together, you are inadvertently telling players how to play -- this is especially damaging for new players, who might mistake your forum consolidation for gospel. Masterminds can do support, but were originally conceived as -- and work just fine as -- the tanking role for villains. And they're great DPS.

Well, the most confusing part of the forums BY FAR is the periodic appearance of additional beta forums IN THE FRONT PAGE before you even select a language, which are NOT visible once you have selected a language. What's up with that?

The archetype forums being separate makes clear sense to players playing archetypes. But, if you are taking suggestions, why is there so much apparent duplication in "meta" forums?

The what? I just skimmed the I-21 patch notes looking for any reference to increasing the salvage drop rate and didn't see anything, although my search was not exhaustive. Is there really an announced change in drop rates?

As a new player, I did so, and was quite disappointed in the result. Depending on your servers population, you may find that you run into the same people as you level. If you find their chatting to be amusing, or perhaps intelligent, I suggest you friend them.
If you right-mouse on another player's name, you can select "add note" (or "edit note" after you've added one) and type little reminders to yourself that will stay associated with that player's global name even if he or she changes characters. This can be an extremely potent social tool -- you can look like you remember everyone effortlessly, even if you're scatterbrained. I use these "player notes" extensively. Not only does it help me remember, and warmly greet, friends -- and avoid the (relatively few) people I'd rather avoid -- it's also cool when some random character speaks to me and I am able to open the player note and see a message I sent myself in the past like "Cool-headed on a Katie Task Force; complimented Sister Power's costume."

    Try typing in the following...

    /bind SHIFT+LCLICK powexec_name Teleport

You can now hold down shift and click places to more easily teleport about! You can of course change SHIFT to CTRL/ALT or LCLICK to RCLICK if you like.
Also, if you have a multi-button mouse, you can put T-port onto the thumb button, which I do. Just put T-port into a power tray and then type \O (for "Options," select the "Keymapping" tab, and set the mouse control for that power tray slot. Then you can just thumb-point-left click-thumb-point-left click your way across the game universe.

  25. One of the things that's a consequence of the game being so big is that there are LOTS of things to try. My advice is to try them.

Seriously, some people play one character on one server with one supergroup and only really learn that AT and powersets. You can do that if you want, but after 7 years I find I keep discovering new powers, powersets, missions, and other cool things I hadn't really tried before.

It's okay to concentrate on one character, but don't hesitate to try new things, you may be very pleasantly surprised.

Also, although this is common to many games, it bears repeating -- you may start out weak, but you will get stronger, so don't feel too frustrated if it's tough at first.

Lastly, there's a button above your power trays called "powers." If you expand that, there's a button above THAT called "Combat Attributes." Clicking that will let you look at a vast number of stats showing your defenses, percentages, speeds, etc. You can right-mouse on any stat and display it continuously on your playing area (up to a total of ten stats). This is very handy for a tracking a variety of things. One I always monitor is "Last hit chance" (found under "Base" stats). When the Last Hit bottoms out, it usually means some power has debuffed my to-hit, or that the enemy has activated a good defense power. Then I can take action to fix the problem.
