Best confuser
This is going to be a pretty general question actually, I have a name and a concept that makes me want to make a character that uses confusion powers. It doesnt have to be all they do, but something I can regularly use. I'm leaning towards a troller as I already have a tricked out dom, and I'd like to do something a bit different. Plant/ Mind/ Ill/ and Elec are all options, but I'm leaning towards Mind/ and Ill/ mostly. The other two can work, just that they require a slightly long conceptual leap.
I'm looking at a character that can do a bit of everything, solo, TFs, trials, pvp, whatever. I dont feel the need to excel in all those fields, but its nice to have a decent time at any of them. Also open to suggestions for secondaries. I'm leaning towards Mind/poison right now, simply because it looks like it'd be some nice single target damage for when I do solo, but could still add some good debuffs on a team environment, but I'm sure I'll change my mind 5 minutes from now. |

I'm going to have to go with the above, however. If the concept really is just a confuser, a Mind/ Dom is going to hit it on the head a little better. With a Controller, you have to "suplement" the concept quite a bit with those exotic looking secondaries .

If looking for confuse effects, then look no further than Mind. You get a nice AOE confuse and a single-target confuse, plus the standard controls. For secondary, it's a tough choice. For Controllers, I'd say Rad, Cold, Poison, or Storm. I would probably lean toward Rad (AM is worth it). For Dominators, Psi is the most thematically appropriate, while Fire is the most damaging.
Illusion has a single-target confuse, but has tons of other capabilities that make it one of the most powerful sets in the game. Rad is the easiest to build (AM helps get perma-Hasten, which helps get perma-Phantom Army), but Cold is slightly more effective.
If you go with Mind Control I would suggest Mind/Time or Mind/Rad, with Mind/Time/Primal being my optimum suggestion. Your damage will not be extravagant but it is definitely still soloable. Rad and especially Time grant very large Recharge bonuses that can help you get your primary powers back quickly. Of course, any secondary will work if you can think of a different strategy. I personally have a Mind/Cold Controller, which is not the most synergistic combo in the world, barring the fact that any team that adds him gets both a Mind Controller and a Cold, which is pretty hard to shake a stick at.
IMO Mind Control fares among the best of the Controller primaries when placed in the specific environment of incarnate trials because it can do so much without drawing attention to itself, and it is the only set that can easily stack 2 of its AoEs with single target powers to overcome protection. In the unusual event of a team wipe on Lambda, Mass Confusion is a godsend because you can confuse the huge group of gathered enemies without pulling down the wrath of the gods.
The main downside of Mind Control on Controllers specifically is Containment and also dealing with Elite Bosses/AVs solo. The Containment issue is partially solved by Power Boost because boosting the duration of Total Domination means a much longer Containment period that can't be broken. AVs are just one of those things you learn to deal with. Although technically, Mind Controllers have better single target DPS than most other Controllers and its really only their solo struggle with Containment on difficult enemies that holds them back; when there is another Controller on the team to immobilize the AV, the Mind Controller out-damages those Controllers, since pets tend to die and Mind's powers are both more damaging and very fast animating.
Ice's confuse doesn't use any animation time at all, and it's autohit.

Some numbers for AA:
+3.725s Confused (mag 3) (after 1 second delay) (30% chance)
Effect does not stack from same caster
So besides having only a 30% chance and 1/10 base duration of Mind's Confuse and Mass Confusion (37 secs both, same as Illusion and Plant, Elec's is 27 secs, all of those are 100% chance if they hit), it doesn't even get the +1 mag overpower chance like all the others.
Mind/ is a good primary. For secondaries I'd go, in no particular order, Cold/Rad/Time/Kin. I'm not sure about /time and pvp but /cold and /rad are still good there. You could always get an APP AoE/Cone and possibly spring attack for more damage.

Although not a controller, and it might go against your concept, Fortunatas have great confuse powers too! Indeed they have an ST confuse, an AOE confuse and other mind powers to boot!
